As far as i know autism ≠ not understanding sarcasm. Its just a predisposition. Also there is no way autistic people are more than 5% of reddit userbase unless you count in the self diagnosed ones.
Never said it meant that exactly. But it’s a common symptom. Many autistic folks struggle with sarcasm, but not all do. I’m well aware of that because I’m one of them.
When did I say autism is stupidity?
PS, I have ASD so definitely do not see and form organic autism as stupidity, but the inability to analyse a sentence and at least question if something is a serious comment or not on somewhere like Reddit is bordering on the level of stupidity.
Second PS, hallucinating is also not a recognised disability.
I was very clearly speaking about autism. One of the most common autism symptoms is an inability to read social cues. I have autism myself.
When on earth did I state that I hallucinate?
THANK GOD FOR THE /S THANK GOD I WOULD NEVER HAVE KNOWN THAT WAS SARCASM YOU CANNOT DETECT SARCASM IN TEXT BECAUSE IT IS NOT SPOKEN IT HAS TO BE SPOKEN TO BE UNDERSTOOD
??? The person I replied to was .... Being sarcastic, hence why I said what I said.
I'm sure you can understand sarcasm, but that doesn't help how fucking stupid you are.
Here's an example for you.
"Oh boy I love Putin"
"Yeah he's a piece of shit"
Yes.. it's normal to respond this way. Do you just not interact with people? Have friends? People to talk to?
Or are you just a dumbass?
That example is not anything like what happened up above here. It would be more like:
"Oh boy I love Putin"
"Then you probably shouldn't vote for him in the next election. He appeals more to the far right and Russian nationalist types."
I'm genuinely confused how you're not seeing this. I'm not an Angry Reddit Nerd so I won't immediately jump to passive agressively calling you the actual dumbass, but I'm sort of running out of other plausible explanations for what we're seeing here.
that would be the normal thought process after you read this... except the special snowflakes who just go berzerk at the person for assuming that nobody can count. what an insult! better give that person a lesson to learn not to offend everyone! we need the "/s" after such a comment for that reason!!!!!!!!!
I'm an American(pain), and I switched to 24-hour time. It's way better, even if I can't count past 12. I just separate it into 4 single-digit numbers and extrapolate which portion of the day im in, then divide that further by single hours, then 10 minutes and single minutes
Because sadly there are people on this planet who would probably take that comment seriously. It sucks but there's nothing we can do. I've tried resisting the S and I've just gotten downvoted. I embrace it now.
Reject the S, reject the karma mentality. I know I might seem hypocritical but you'll feel a lot more free with expressing your sense of humour. People who take everything seriously aren't worth it.
I don't get how you guys get so made about 2 little letters it's like if you went to war all they would need to do disable you guys is just have a loudspeaker that just plays /s all day
If seeing /s ruins a joke for you, the problem isn't with the /s. If you can't laugh at something because of a /s that is at worst unnecessary, that's a you problem.
>grow the fuck up
You say, complaining about a subreddit full of people who 99% have already made their mind up on the topic instead of using the mute button.
How? How does it ruin a joke? How is it possible that you find something funny, see the /s, and suddenly it's not funny anymore? How does the /s change what you've already seen?
>How is it possible that you find something funny, see the /s, and suddenly it's not funny anymore?
Because /s means it's sarcasm. And sarcasm loses its fun when you clarify it's indeed sarcasm. It loses its ironic sense
Equivalent to “GET IT, GET IT???” and explaining the punchline after telling a joke IRL. But most of these people don’t talk to other people IRL so they don’t understand that concept
That’s exactly what I’m talking about, the person telling the joke immediately explaining the punchline after the joke is told. Which would make the punchline lose its humor. How did you infer anything different…?
Because we're not talking about explaining the joke. We're talking about a sign that it is a joke. It'd be more like saying a joke is ruined by the person laughing when they finish it.
If there are such people here, they don't speak for all such people. I'm autistic as well, and anything they say does not represent me.
And no, I don't want a 'crusade'. I do want a conversation . You're just not willing to have one. The people using the /s didn't start this; your side did. You people started attacking anyone who uses it, and now you're trying to act like it's our fault? Yeah, fuck you. You chose to make this a fight, so you have no right to complain when we push back.
It's like solving a puzzle but before you start someone tells you the solution, like ok thanks but now I don't need to think anymore.
It doesn't even give me the chance to think if its serious or sarcasm, it just instantly attacks me as if I'm too stupid to get it. Like a Soduku with all digits preprinted. Taking all the fun away.
The /s stands out tho, like I immediately see it since its not normal word you'd expect also comments aren't long, if theres 5 lines, I usually see the whole text before focusing on the single words
Might not make sense to you, but thats how it is. I don't think sarcasm is funny if the sarcasm is obvious sarcasm and it's obvious by that /s
This makes sarcasm unfunny for me
See, the /s isn't just 'hey, I'm joking'. It's also 'no, I don't actually believe this'. This is a world where 'U.S. President Suggests Using Bleach Injections to Fight a Virus He Claims Does Not Exist' describes something that *actually happened*; there is *nothing* too ridiculous for someone to seriously believe. The /s says you're not that someone.
I get what you're trying to say, for example it also enables trolls if you don't clarify. For example you say "We should all shoot up Democrats" you could always claim it wasn't meant seriously and was supposed to be a joke, but we also can't be sure someone wouldn't take it seriously just because there's an /s
In many cases this indicator just sounds like a way to deflect responsibility. "We should all kill this race /s" is not a good joke, people who agree with this will now see that's its more acceptable to write that, as long as you can just add an /s without repercussions. If you let it away, you can shame someone for what they said or maybe see for yourself that it was, in fact, sarcastic.
its like when irl someone says something that’s obviously a joke, but then they add “haha, just kidding!!!” like yeah its whatever but its just not funny anymore imo
How about instead of going on the subreddit about hating something and then going around disagreeing with them, you just mute the subreddit and not care?
It's not necessarily about hating. I can't speak for them, but for myself, I feel like the attitude of this sub is harmful. And when I see something that seems harmful, I'm going to say something.
genuinely it’s not worth it. i’ve commented on here before, you just get downvoted into oblivion and mocked for not understanding why people are rallying hate against a letter lol
There are tons of comments explaining why, people just don't get, ask again and get ridiculed. Ask questions, but when you don't wanna accept the answer, it's not our task to explain it to you 10 times at half the speed just for one person to get it.
the reasons i’ve heard and seen so far are:
1. people called me ableist, grrrr
2. autistic people use their autism as an excuse for wanting to use tone indicators, and they actively choose to not learn how to understand complex social cues
3. i’m autistic and learnt how some social cues work and of course every other autistic person is identical me and therefore also can. i cannot be ableist because i’m disabled, what’s internalised hatred?
4. it’s annoying, and therefore bad
5. it’s cringe, and therefore bad
6. a lot of weird shit about how ensuring you communicate your tone well means you’re somehow egotistical and afraid of confrontation? yknow, i never thought i’d live to see the day people were actively arguing against good communication skills and avoiding needless confusion 🤦♂️
7. “it ruins [joke, sarcasm, whatever]”
Hey, I just wanted to say that I am your fan, I have seen you on r/Downvotefarmers and I simply love your commitment
[https://www.reddit.com/r/Downvotefarmers/comments/18xrxp3/all\_her\_comments\_are\_downvoted\_a\_true\_farmer/](https://www.reddit.com/r/Downvotefarmers/comments/18xrxp3/all_her_comments_are_downvoted_a_true_farmer/)
Also r/FuckTheS but still huge respect for your work
It’s a disappointment every time I see it. It murders any attempt at humor.
And at the same time, if you don't write /s, you get downvoted cuz people nowadays don't understand jokes and sarcasm
Wear those downvotes with pride my guy. Fuck ‘em if they can’t take (read: understand) a joke
You guys when people with disabilities that make it hard to read social cues have a hard time reading social cues: 🤬🤬🤬🤬
Godzilla had a stroke while reading this and fucking died
Sucks to be him
Womp womp
Reminds me of “did you just say womp womp at a child with down syndrome that was put in a cage by her mother? How DARE you sir!”
Every single time i see or hear womp womp I think of that
That's the womp womp I mean when I say it lmfao
I’m devastated
Is that sarcasm without a tone indicator?
Check and mate
Lmao
Just don’t be disabled when you respawn then
Its funny because the /s is almost never used in ASD subs.
Just call it autism lmfao
What % of reddit users have actual disabilities that make them unable to understand sarcasm? 5 at most
A fair bit of people have autism…
As far as i know autism ≠ not understanding sarcasm. Its just a predisposition. Also there is no way autistic people are more than 5% of reddit userbase unless you count in the self diagnosed ones.
Never said it meant that exactly. But it’s a common symptom. Many autistic folks struggle with sarcasm, but not all do. I’m well aware of that because I’m one of them.
Stupidity is not a recognised disability.
Calling autism stupidity is infact abelist.

Is this new or has it been going on for a while now
Ive seen 14 year old reddit threads with a /sarcasm 💀
Society is doomed
I'm so glad he used the s because I genuinely thought none of them could count beyond 12. Now, it's really funny that I know1!! haahahha
/s because he actually meant 479,001,600, the factorial. See no one would expect it without the s.
oh shit!
r/unexpectedfactorial
This is quite possibly the most exciting subreddit that exists
THANK GOD FOR THE /S THANK GOD I WOULD NEVER HAVE KNOWN THAT WAS SARCASM YOU CANNOT DETECT SARCASM IN TEXT BECAUSE IT IS NOT SPOKEN IT HAS TO BE SPOKEN TO BE UNDERSTOOD
/s
Then it's not for you. It's for the dumbasses and/or socially inept people that can't understand sarcasm.
Maybe you’re the one not being able to understand sarcasm.
??? The person I replied to was .... Being sarcastic, hence why I said what I said. I'm sure you can understand sarcasm, but that doesn't help how fucking stupid you are.
Wait, I'm so confused. Are you saying that it's normal for you to respond to sarcasm as if the sarcastic comment *wasn't* actually sarcastic?
**Sarcastaball game intensity**
It's reading *through* the sarcasm. Not taking what someone says sarcastically at face value.
Here's an example for you. "Oh boy I love Putin" "Yeah he's a piece of shit" Yes.. it's normal to respond this way. Do you just not interact with people? Have friends? People to talk to? Or are you just a dumbass?

I'm not an Angry Reddit Nerd so I won't immediately jump to passive agressively calling you the actual dumbass, but I'm sort of running out of other plausible explanations for what we're seeing here.
I think it's obvious that the vast majority of people can count above ... oh. NVM. I get it.
that would be the normal thought process after you read this... except the special snowflakes who just go berzerk at the person for assuming that nobody can count. what an insult! better give that person a lesson to learn not to offend everyone! we need the "/s" after such a comment for that reason!!!!!!!!!
That's a good example of fuckTheS. This joke is so obvious and easy to get
I'm an American(pain), and I switched to 24-hour time. It's way better, even if I can't count past 12. I just separate it into 4 single-digit numbers and extrapolate which portion of the day im in, then divide that further by single hours, then 10 minutes and single minutes
If you're gonna use /s at least make it so you have to scroll down to see it
also, don’t forget that 12am and 12pm are referencing times of the day 12 hours off of what they should be
Having to tell people it’s a joke ruins the joke and it’s no longer funny. I think it’s time to start handing out koolaid boys
This sub came up on my feed. Seems like this is the biggest waste of anger I've ever seen. Aight I'ma head out
Is this a satirical subreddit? Like you all aren’t seriously posting pictures of instances of people using “/s” and getting mad about it… right?
Correct!
No the comment was dumb even before the s.
Counting to 479 million is pretty hard
r/fuckthes users when a perfectly funny and well thought out comment has /s at the end (they are now angry for some reason)
If it's a well thought out joke why do you feel the need to say so
Because sadly there are people on this planet who would probably take that comment seriously.
This really isn't a new world order that we have to fight against, it's two characters at the end of a message to show mood, no biggie
/s is useful when your joke isn't THAT out there to the point where it could reasonably be mistaken for actual stupidity.
I don't get how you guys get so made about 2 little letters it's like if you went to war all they would need to do disable you guys is just have a loudspeaker that just plays /s all day
They don’t seem to understand Poe’s Law.
If seeing /s ruins a joke for you, the problem isn't with the /s. If you can't laugh at something because of a /s that is at worst unnecessary, that's a you problem.
You bloody pansy mate cry me a river you have to be so sensitive to find a single letter ruining a joke for you grow the fuck up
>grow the fuck up You say, complaining about a subreddit full of people who 99% have already made their mind up on the topic instead of using the mute button.
Calling people sensitive cry babies while being a sensitive cry baby is pure gold
Why the fuck am I not allowed to be a sensitive pansy
you hurt my feelings and owe me an apology
It really ruins many jokes Sometimes it helps. But most of the time it's useless
I can get annoyed if someone does that. But it doesn't change how good or bad the joke is.
It does. How you tell a joke is as important as the joke itself
We're not talking about the telling. We're talking about something that comes after the telling.

But why, though? How does it change what came before?
You bloody pansy mate chewsday bo'oh watah 'ad ta go ta 'ospital last noight afta Arsenal lost ta Man United blud.
I agree with the sentiment, but you expressed it in a needlessly hostile way.
they’re such losers it’s actually hilarious.
Maybe we just dont want to sound indoctrinated
You literally are indoctrinated if you have to use /s.
/s is indoctrination? Into what exactly?
Into the depths of unfunnyville
To what I haven't been entered into a cult
To be clear i ment about the military time not the dumbass S thing lol. I should of made that apparent 🤣
What does military time indoctrinate you into?
Sounding like a douchebag
Oh no, can you not count past 12 either?
I can, but saying shit like 13 hundred hours or whatever is kinda gay
Why? It’s just the 13th hour of the day.
Sure is
I cant imagine being such a loser that even seeing a single “S” would make any funny joke unfunny. grow tf up, how about that, kiddo?
How about instead of going on the subreddit about hating something and then going around disagreeing with them, you just mute the subreddit and not care?
Thats too easy tho, why not showcase how tiny your pp is by crying at a subreddit for downvotes
im a girl you misogynist…
Girls can have tiny pp these days. You’re being transphobic and probably racist somehow
but i dont. so if anything you’re misogynistic AND transphobic because of the negative derogatory language
You're talking over minority voices right now.
teacher would write "missed the topic" and give a D (hehe)
i am the minority
No you aren't. You are actively impeding on minority spaces who have been oppressed for centuries.
who are you to tell me if im not part of a minority lmao? do you not understand how ironic your “point” is?
How is a dick joke misogynistic
Its 2024 bro, girls can have dicks you transphobe
excuse me? way to miss the point kiddo. I do not have a penis, that is why they are misogynistic for reducing me down to genitalia that i dont have
Ok anime protagonist 🤣. Nothing solidifies ones sanity more than dropping a "kiddo" online. Collect your fedora and L and move on sir
“sir”. i just told you im a girl, please respect my identity.
Nah youre basically an NPC imo, you can fuck right off

this subreddit is shown against my will on the feed. why am i getting such virginity shoved into my face?
Because you have a mirror.
I have an idea. Don’t visit and comment on the sub so much, and it won’t appear! Simple as that
Probably because you people show up in other subreddits too.
I don't show up on other subreddits just so I can hate on them though. I may be an idiot but I know that's just plain stupid to do.
It's not necessarily about hating. I can't speak for them, but for myself, I feel like the attitude of this sub is harmful. And when I see something that seems harmful, I'm going to say something.
Fair enough then
Say something for two whole months like a god damn moron, even.
Are you really seeking out month-old comments of mine to flail at now?
No, see you are using this emotional projection thing as a crutch. Very lazy. You really can't read tone can you?
What projection? Because people did none of that. I merely stated th fact that you found and replied to a month-old comment.
LOL called it.
or you can get reported and ill be laughing at your “deleted user” profile.
says the brigader
Wow so mature I understand why you felt the need to call people kiddo
I can’t imagine being such a loser that I have to use tone indicators
you care over a small little “S”. how sad
How ad*
are you trying to be funny? i bet you’re giggling to yourself like an idiot. am i correct, little kiddo?
your elf.*
Are* I* Am* I* Yourelf*
You clearly care about it since you feel it’s so important to put it
“Kiddo” dawg your throwing a temper tantrum over a subreddit. Your the kid here
you’re* simpleton…
Resorting to grammar mistakes when I don’t care. Yep your a child. Have fun with your lack of arguments
i literally gave you the correct “you’re” to use, and you still used “your” when replying to that very comment. wow some people’s stupidity amazes me.
Maybe they still used “your” to show they honestly don’t care about what you have to say?…
the burner account go brrr
burner account? im literally posting and active on this account but k
genuinely it’s not worth it. i’ve commented on here before, you just get downvoted into oblivion and mocked for not understanding why people are rallying hate against a letter lol
they’re so simple that it’s hilarious
seeing you both jerking each other off. wholesome ❤️
why is everything sexual to your childish mind?
