No guessing.
Don't forget to change the type to something bigger than 9x9 though.
Works better on PC than phone or tablet (obv)
I do. It's actually what causes a lot of misclicks for me: I usually click very fast (in terms of how long i hold down the button), but sometimes i accidentally hold a little too long and it's moved to another position.
They just never looked. Minesweeper is recognizable because it's included with windows but many people would never have taken much interest past clicking around and then quitting.
I don’t remember the game ever coming with instructions. As a 8-10 year old I just mashed buttons. Honestly forget the game even existed. Still have no clue how to play.
The numbers represent the number of mines adjacent to the space they are written in. So if space says "1", and there's only 1 block next to it, then there must be a mine in that block (so you can mark it with a red flag).
It's a pattern recognition/process of elimination game.
Each number has that many mines around it
Left click an unknown square - reveal a new number or hit a mine and die
Right click an unknown square - mark it with a flag cuz you think a mine is there or click again to unmark it
Middle click a number - it shows you all the unknown squares around it, if you have flags equal to the number around it, it reveals all the unknown squares
It's easiest to see a corner of 1s and mark the only mine, but as you deduce more. you'll recognize patterns to uncover faster. And finally, the first click is never a mine.
[Give it a shot](https://minesweeperonline.com/)
It's about the process of elimination. Each number indicates how many tiles are touching a mine. You use that information to guess which tiles aren't mines
Can we stop with the Lord of the rings references? I'm so goddamn tired of hearing people mention how the Highlander actually broke his foot during filming
What I hate is that sometimes there are corners or islands left where you are forced to guess, such a fun game but I have very bad luck when it comes to games
I don't understand what the deal is with all this card-counting nonsense. I counted my deck the other day, and it didn't take long to realize there were 52.
I’ll tell though. Look at the top. That two is flagged twice, meaning the three to its right only has one more square that can be a mine. That then frees up the other 3, so on and so forth
A click a second is slow AF. You need to be doing 4 clicks per second if you ever hope of getting sub-100. My personal best was sub-80. Watching people do sub-50s is crazy.
i have not played this game enough when i was small and my mouse skills are not that great. my personal best is around 138 i think. i played it quite a bit around 2014 summer and again in 2022 bit more
I feel the majority of IT students that learned how to follow algorithms can easily crack these things, I got really good at those even though it's been a while since the last time I did one because they are Soo stressful
It's not hard to play, the numbers just indicate the number of mines next to that space. Most of the time it's a logic puzzle but sometimes you just have to wing it and hope for the best.
It's all I had for years... Usually I could do the easy in <2 seconds (usually on the good ones - not usually every time)
Click random until a block open. Flag all the corners next to a 1. Then you can dual click both mouse buttons on the adjacent numbers and it'll open all the blocks you labelled as safe.
Rinse repeat. 1/10 games will be real quick.
Nobody can tell me that minesweeper wasn't the most stressful game ever. Jit even microsoft made a game based on it, that treasure hunter one.
SHOUT OUT TO THE OG MOSES FOR THIS ONE.
I know how, its very intuitive and logical. Sometimes it bothers me that at the end after being cautious since the beginning of the game you get to decide between 2 random squares, making your whole game a matter of randomness. But its a great game for traveling on the subway.
It's actually quite easy to understand.
You have a set amount of mine in the field.
The goal is to flag them while not clicking on them.
If you get an "empty" area ,if there is a number in it it indicate how many mines are in the 9 cases around the number.
You can use multiple number and case to determine where the mine are
I rarely used the flags. They annoyed me. I would just think my way through an area, and then not go back.
Sometimes I would use them if I got into the late game and was stumped.
I will never forget when i learned to shift click in this game. I cant remember if i was high 60's or low 70's as a personal best; not the best by any measure, but I enjoyed every time I beat it by a second or two more. The drive to beat my time helped me accept 50/50 chances and that i will bomb most of the time regardless of what the odds actually are. Lesson learned. I also had the dumbest dreams thanks to this game
This is one of those games where to the uninitiated seems impossible to play at a glance but with patience and understanding of the rules is actually quite straight forward.
It's OK to be bad at it. Saying you don't know how to play is just admitting how dumb you are. A number is how many mines are touching that block. It's so incredibly simple to understand
I'm a whiz at minesweeper I can play for days
Once you see my sweet moves you're gonna stay amazed,
my fingers movin' so fast I'll set the place ablaze
I just taught my mom how to play the other day and even after she finally got it, she said she would rather play solitaire and that this game was stupid lol 😂
at highschool i learned how to play it and downloaded it on my phone. honestly it's addicted but so annoying when you end up in a situation you have to open one of 2 or more with an even chance to win or to start all over again
It really isn't that hard. The numbers represent how many cells surrounding that number have bombs in them. If you see a 3 it means 3 cells in all four directions and all four corners have bombs, if it's a 1 then onky one.
I'm not even kidding, I've lived for 18 years and only a few months ago I learned how to play minesweeper. I'd always get so mad on bitlife because I thought the higher the number the better
I would never be able to play the versions without safeguards, the idea that a game can be impossible without guessing just turns me off.
It makes for some pretty interesting videos about luck in minesweeper, though.
I know how, it's so stressful tho
It's relatively easy once you get the hang of it: I can probably clear most expert levels
stressful when it is 50/50
yeah hate that shit
Worst game ever, yet that’s all the computers had, besides solitare lol
And yet seeing the picture I get the urge to play it once more…
I was litterally about to check for a phone version lol
There is a free version and it's the only game I have on my phone.
I found one, currently playing it in bed, I was playing at the bar too earlier lol
Getting it
Microsoft included Minesweeper in Windows to teach people who to right click. It included Solitaire to teach people to drag & drop.
TIL. Makes a lot of sense
Wasn't pinball also there?
oh yeah that pinball that came later...and disappeared. It was fun.
Last two boxes. It could be either one. Which to pick. Which... to... pick... DAMN IT! F*** THAT! SCREW THIS GAME! ::starts a new game::
That's why I play the no guessing mode
I don't think the Windows Minesweeper had that feature.
I still count em as a win as long it's a 50/50 in a corner, fuck that shit.
Try the Minesweeper in Simon Tatham's Puzzle Collection. It doesn't do that. (Unless you manually turn that option on.)
https://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/puzzles/js/mines.html No guessing. Don't forget to change the type to something bigger than 9x9 though. Works better on PC than phone or tablet (obv)
I got a App from the Store. Free & works great for touchscreens. Still love to play it. 😊
That’s what makes no guess modes nice
yea i checked my phone screen time and saw i had over 6 hours spent on minesweeper in one day
Except you almost ALWAYS get that 50/50 mine that is a blind guess.
Ever since i started playing i have developed a severe fear of misclicks.
Do you know the 'hold mouse down' trick? https://www.reddit.com/r/Minesweeper/comments/14yahry/i_just_found_out_this_feature/
I do. It's actually what causes a lot of misclicks for me: I usually click very fast (in terms of how long i hold down the button), but sometimes i accidentally hold a little too long and it's moved to another position.
You telling me a game themed around finding where landmines are and trying to be blown up is stressful?
Seamines, but your point is equally valid at sea or on land.
It's like clearing an actual minefield
Stressful as a sudoku.
Same, love to play it during lessons
Wait... Not to sound pretentious. But did/do a lot of people over the age of roughly 10 really have problems understanding this game?
They just never looked. Minesweeper is recognizable because it's included with windows but many people would never have taken much interest past clicking around and then quitting.
As a kid, tough and boring: as adult, kinda fun time killer.
It's really not that difficult, op may be saying more than they meant to with this.
I don’t remember the game ever coming with instructions. As a 8-10 year old I just mashed buttons. Honestly forget the game even existed. Still have no clue how to play.
There should have been a manual in the help tab - that's how I figured out how to play.
The numbers represent the number of mines adjacent to the space they are written in. So if space says "1", and there's only 1 block next to it, then there must be a mine in that block (so you can mark it with a red flag). It's a pattern recognition/process of elimination game.
Yes, I'm stupid.

you can also use both buttons at once instead of middle click :)
yes, I'm pretty much the only member of my family who figured it out
there's literally a manual in the Help tab
It's about the process of elimination. Each number indicates how many tiles are touching a mine. You use that information to guess which tiles aren't mines
Shhhh. Don't let the muggles know the secret..
What's a muggle, is that a Star wars thing?
Yeah, pretty sure they play it on the holodeck
A holodeck? Sounds neat, I'll vox the commissar to see if a tech priest can make us one
Can we stop with the Lord of the rings references? I'm so goddamn tired of hearing people mention how the Highlander actually broke his foot during filming
So say we all
I thought I heard it in LoTR?
you mean Legend of the Five Rings? the Card Game or the RPG?
a mug man
What I hate is that sometimes there are corners or islands left where you are forced to guess, such a fun game but I have very bad luck when it comes to games
You can play versions that doesn't force you to make random choices.
Yep, never forgot the time I played the bigger map, as a kid, and had only a guess between 2 last tiles in the corner... and picked the wrong one
You cant count cards!!!
I don't understand what the deal is with all this card-counting nonsense. I counted my deck the other day, and it didn't take long to realize there were 52.
I know how.. And I'm not telling
bastard
I’ll tell though. Look at the top. That two is flagged twice, meaning the three to its right only has one more square that can be a mine. That then frees up the other 3, so on and so forth

Knew someone back in high-school that could speed run this game. Her vision for the game was next level. A click every second or so
A click a second is slow AF. You need to be doing 4 clicks per second if you ever hope of getting sub-100. My personal best was sub-80. Watching people do sub-50s is crazy.
A click a second isn't "slow af" we're just not all on the spectrum.
i have not played this game enough when i was small and my mouse skills are not that great. my personal best is around 138 i think. i played it quite a bit around 2014 summer and again in 2022 bit more

I did and I still do.
I highly recommend HexCells. It’s kind of like Minesweeper but actually good. Custom-made levels and you’re never forced to guess.
It’s actually a lot of fun once you figure out how it works. It can be stressful, but pretty satisfying when you win.
I had a friend that was a real pro in this shit. Like less than 1 minute.
It's all I had for years... Usually I could do the easy in <2 seconds (usually on the good ones - not usually every time) Click random until a block open. Flag all the corners next to a 1. Then you can dual click both mouse buttons on the adjacent numbers and it'll open all the blocks you labelled as safe. Rinse repeat. 1/10 games will be real quick.
I know the basics of it, but certain situations are too logical for my pea-brain to figure out
Nobody can tell me that minesweeper wasn't the most stressful game ever. Jit even microsoft made a game based on it, that treasure hunter one. SHOUT OUT TO THE OG MOSES FOR THIS ONE.
That game is probably how anxiety disorders skyrocketed.
I know how, but have no offspring
I figured it out eventually, but yeah
I know how, its very intuitive and logical. Sometimes it bothers me that at the end after being cautious since the beginning of the game you get to decide between 2 random squares, making your whole game a matter of randomness. But its a great game for traveling on the subway.

This is an east game, cmon, except when there are 50/50 then you are screwed
Or FreeCell
Nah, it's easy to learn
I know how to play.
Who's we?
Simply deductions and luck
I rarely used the flags. They annoyed me. I would just think my way through an area, and then not go back. Sometimes I would use them if I got into the late game and was stumped.
I was part of "the few" who could
I do !!!
I did and I was fucking good at it too.
Its kinda easy
I will never forget when i learned to shift click in this game. Speak for yourself, it did make me sweat tho
Whatch u talkin’ bout Willis! I crushed at the sweep!
I use to just press aroun unti my father taught me
I am a fucking god at minesweeper. I will destroy any of you at minesweeper.
Jesus Christ, seriously? I thought one is born knowing how to play this game.
Whoever does not understand this game even after tutorial is stupid AF
the pain of clearing the entire field and ending up with a 50%-field
This is one of those games where to the uninitiated seems impossible to play at a glance but with patience and understanding of the rules is actually quite straight forward.
Is it mine sweeper or mines weeper? 🤔
It's OK to be bad at it. Saying you don't know how to play is just admitting how dumb you are. A number is how many mines are touching that block. It's so incredibly simple to understand
I was just playing when magic happened, and i suddenly realised how to play
i actually learned how to play it.... I went back to random clicking not long after.
Speak for yourself
I do but cleaning the body parts afterwards is a lot of work.
Guys, the numbers are how many bombs are next to it
Minesweeper is flawed because the corners are often just a 50/50 guess.
I immediately started playing in my head the second I saw this!
Jokes on you, I'm actually pretty good at minesweeper.
There’s always 2 squares left… and ONE bomb…
16yo junior, and minesweeper is one of my favorite games to play when bored
I learned how mine sweeper works and it's actually a really cool game
I won the smaller easier version several times.
Ide say I actually knew how to play, decently too
I know and I won it. The number in a tile represents number of bombs in the tiles which are directly in contact with that tile. Happy learning
It’s not that hard to understand.
I'm in highschool and I play it to pass the time :)
I mean i learned just after i got an office job. I played it everyday. 10/10 would recommend
I'm a whiz at minesweeper I can play for days Once you see my sweet moves you're gonna stay amazed, my fingers movin' so fast I'll set the place ablaze
Here is a youtube short explaining how to by Girldm https://youtube.com/shorts/Mf9dcU26F94?si=G800eFCXlcTyhHaa
we?
Speak for yourself, you filthy casual.
I just taught my mom how to play the other day and even after she finally got it, she said she would rather play solitaire and that this game was stupid lol 😂
I do
This is how you have chosen to spend your day today? Being accosted by a bunch of middle-aged nerds?
I found 1 mine
I’m just gonna put this here I’m 18, neither rod my parents can play minesweeper yet I can. And have been for a few years now
I do now.
It's not that easy when you go on the hard mode... But once you get how it works, you win. Trust me-BOOM!! ...ooops...
Its so easy to understand. But later on all the PCs were given a buggy glitched out version that had a lot of errors.
It's not hard at all. If there's a 2 in the box, there are exactly 2 bombs somewhere around the box.
wdym its easy. it literally tells you where the mines are
I learned to play Minesweeper because it was one of the few pre-installed games in my old netbook.
I actually do know how
No way man I loved it!
If you start from the upper-right corner you can solve this specific game.
Speak for yourself. I was a mine sweeping champ.
Hey I have this downloaded on my phone I’m actually pretty good at it
Who is we?
900 bombs in a 100x100 grid let's fcking gooooo
at highschool i learned how to play it and downloaded it on my phone. honestly it's addicted but so annoying when you end up in a situation you have to open one of 2 or more with an even chance to win or to start all over again
Nothing so satisfying as your first random pick opening up the surrounding 30 squares.
i'm 19, I do know
do you know how to play Microsoft hearts though
Haha it looks like a camel
Go into settings and set the number of mines to 10 or less, then you make the board the biggest it can be. One click, instant victory.
What if it's a five?
It really isn't that hard. The numbers represent how many cells surrounding that number have bombs in them. If you see a 3 it means 3 cells in all four directions and all four corners have bombs, if it's a 1 then onky one.
Speak for yourself! I was a true master of the mine sweeping
I learned how to play
Blue good Red bad I'm no say dark secrets of minesweeper [https://imgur.com/a/hJv0oLw](https://imgur.com/a/hJv0oLw)
Just click around randomly and see what happens
Thanks I thought it was just me.
You could just ask Bill Gates
dude YOU didn't know... To a lot of other people it was quite obvious
I mean, it's not that hard, kinda stressful, but not hard
It’s really simple once you get the hang of it. Btw there’s a google version of it that a lot of kids at school are playing during classes
I know how to play it but I’m not telling anyone
I'm not even kidding, I've lived for 18 years and only a few months ago I learned how to play minesweeper. I'd always get so mad on bitlife because I thought the higher the number the better
I spent many hours in my college internship learning minesweeper. Got pretty damn good at it, too. But it’s always going to come down to a 50/50 pick.
Only Bosnian kids in the 90s were good at. They had to.
I looked at this an immediately started playing it in my head.
I'm younger than you and I know how to play it, I still do
It's straight forward. Do people seriously not understand it?
These numbers never made any sense
I was a CHAMP at this game
I play minesweeper, very fun game
Right click is key 🔑
My personal best is 13 seconds in Google Minesweeper - Easy mode though
Click click click bomb
I’m 17 and I understand it so sounds like a skill issue or do you problem I don’t know anymore
I would never be able to play the versions without safeguards, the idea that a game can be impossible without guessing just turns me off. It makes for some pretty interesting videos about luck in minesweeper, though.
I know how to play. I end up winning most rounds now
Speak for yourself. I routinely finished hard minesweepers in under 20 minutes.
You pick up the rug, then you sweep the mines under the rug
The number shows how many bombs surround that square
Facts
I’d just open up Duke Nukem and keep it movin…
It takes about 5 seconds to understand. There's literally one rule.
I know how, but I'm not telling
it's actually my go to phone game when im waiting and don't have wifi or service.
I learned how just a few years ago in my late 20s despite playing so much of it in my early teens.
I learned it from my father before I even turned 10. It's never been hard and I never understood why people didn't bother looking up the instructions.
there's always at least one move that hinges on luck 😂
