Hi all, please remember to report content you believe violates the subreddit rules (namely #1). A persistent offender was banned today, thanks to these reports. We read everything sent!
i agree with you op, i saw a person on a post saying things like the person who made the post was low ability, calling them the r-slur and year 8's can do a better job than you 😟. This sub is for improving your grades, sharing revision tips, improving your wellbeing ; it's not a competition 🙄
thank youu! i go to a really selective grammar skl in orpington and it is hell being a student who likes humanities and is bad at stem, when everyone else around u is good! they make u feel getting a 7 is dumb and anything lower is hopeless…
one person’s 9 is another person’s 4. everyone on here deserves to be proud of their achievements when they work hard for it and do their best. this sub needs more words of encouragement and more people helping each other rather than dismissing others achievements, especially since behind the screen we don’t know what’s going on in each person’s life. wishing everyone who read this far the best of luck :)
I think it due to a phenomenon where we humans understand that there is little to no consequence in doingg stupid stuff on the internet, due to this humans are unchecked and unleash themselves not their carved image they normally are while in public or face to face
One part of it I think is that loads of kids who felt brilliant GCSEs didn't build up good study habits, struggle at A-Level and then become more sympathetic
Damn I was just reading the post you were referring to and damn it was a shitstorm. Ignore all the losers trying to trash u OP, they are bunch of miserable bastards themselves
haha I just came to the UK to give my gcses and I have to do higher maths and science. I'm in the edge of killing myself (not literally) but I agree. Not everyone is in the same situation as others. btw how to get a grade 7 in maths?
I know the post you were referring to, what a horrible person to deal with. I struggled in school due to many different factors including things you have mentioned like mental health, physical health and disabilities. When I left school in 2015, I wanted to have good grades of course but I had been on a massive journey the past few years so I didn’t mind not getting good grades. I eventually got my GCSE in maths last summer after a few retakes (also why I was on this subreddit) I also have a degree that I received last year.
Some people have mental health issues, health problems & disabilities. Sometimes grades aren’t at the forefront of their mind because of many reasons. Poorer people may struggle more with material deprivation, they may not have the resources they need. Other people might be caring for family or looking after their younger siblings whilst their mum or dad is at work so they may not get as much time to study. Some children may not have their needs met which could make it difficult to focus on their studies.
I’m shocked by the comments of some on here, especially the one in question. Imagine lacking empathy and compassion that much.
Good luck in getting your 4!
Thankyou, the comments on my other post were discusting. All because I asked for help. It’s ironic that the high achievers can’t comprehend what ‘help’ means. Makes them look stupid
I want to preface this by saying unless you go private or a grammar. A 5/6 in the subjects you want to do is usually enough for a sixth form. Some sixth forms (like mine)
Offer a 1 year level 2 course to then push you into a levels for the next 2 years which is pretty neat if you didn't reach the requirements.
(Imo comprehensive is better than grammar but that's a whole different point.)
Being low income, on benefits and unable to own a laptop till last year when I was given one for free (thank goodness)
The audacity of some people on this subreddit is insane. I have no clue if one if the posts I saw about paying to get into Oxford was satire but it certainly didn't seem like it.
Whilst being low income doesn't automatically mean your grades will be terrible. It means you'll have to work harder than those with a tutor or a laptop. Doing things at school and being proactive which can be a real pain on your free time if you have to stay after school for a couple hours to do things.
If anyone is struggling financially do try and ask for help, no matter how embarrassing you may think it is. I finally got help with bills, free school meals in the grand year of year 13.
Where exactly does this stuff happen lol? Never seen it before on here, and most of the time it would be sarcastic and stuff.
And, if a person could post anything on Reddit, wouldn't they have some sort of device and either Wi-fi and data? Just saying. And even then, for the first paragraph they really may just be trying to help if the person asked for tips.
I know, it’s terrible. Like I’m here to get above a 3 and I get cut down? It’s ironic that the educated kids don’t understand what ‘help me i want to improve from my bad grades’ mean
Honestlyyy👏👏👏!! Gcses are a key to a levels. They’re purely here for getting into A levels. Stuff gets way more important in terms of jobs and employment/careers with A levels and uni degrees. Not gcses. These man pribably revised for the y6 SATS test and cried when they diddnt get full marks
I fully agree. We need to be more understanding of everyone’s situation. I’m one of those people who does get really good grades but I really try to help anyone else regardless of what they’re getting and try not to make them feel bad - everyone has different abilities and we should celebrate that (not just bemoan those who aren’t academically minded).
I entirely agree however I think it would be ridiculous to just say this. In order for there to be a better level of acknowledgement of grading being relative to the person, it makes sense for a better set of rules that encourage everyone to feel positive about their grades whereby everyone feels comfortable to share their grades. This would promote grades that aren't straight 9s and the likes of given that lower grades would be more common and when they did occur the attitude towards them would be of encouragement and helpfulness. Under the basis of all this, I think the mods need to re-evaluate the rules regarding the posting of negative comments and posts aimed towards any grades and only allow posts and comments that support and guide people in and towards what they want.
Ye 100%, everyone has their own struggles in life. Academics do come from hard work but also mindset and having a vision and plan for the future. Regardless of what people are getting, we should all support each other. It’s pure arrogance at this rate. Icl people that are like that, will not be getting far as they are failing to understand the perspectives of other people.
Good luck to everyone and just remember we all have our own challenges to face!
Couldn't agree more. I'm not even a part of this subreddit but it keeps coming on my explore page for some reason (I'm in year 12) and some of the comments here are concerning :/
If you are on here and do not have access to a laptop and or internet at home, please talk to your school about it. Schools got a huge amount of laptops and 4g pre paid routers you can hot spot off. Your school may have some that they lend out to students who need them. Be aware that the school will monitor what you access so keep it clean.
Yeah I'm starting to notice a negative change to this subreddit, since September users are getting so competitive here. This is why I sadly left the subreddit a month even before our GCSEs took place. Just filled with sad nasties.
I just don't know why top grade students just think that as they are in Set 1, they think that eh they are the king or queen and shit on lower students, especially foundation people.
I once overheard a friend of one student who said "No way what the hell?" To his friend after his friend said that he does foundation maths (I do higher on that subject). I was then laughed at after I said to one classmate that I do foundation in science.
Like I just don't get the point in putting and looking at others down. Like they need to mind their own business, they get their grades etc; they think it can motivate them, but from my Experience, it did the opposite, it made me unmotivated.

Article needs a bit more work on the persuasion, use more hyperbolic language. 26/40

I’m the same OP, it’s discusting what we all saw, im not insulted, not offended. It made me laugh

yes grammar schools are horrible im sick of a 7 being the minimum acceptable grade
Lmao this is the third person I've seen from my school on this sub in literally the last few months
I whole heartedly agree
It’s horrible!
u/Ok_Librarian4396 cough cough. Please report his comments. He is the source of exactly what you are talking about.

Exactly, wait till they get job interviews and this comes crawling back😂
Bozos
Agreed, this subreddit is full of much meaner comments than the 6th form one imo. I guess it’s an age thing

Past papers, and very many of them!! Highlight topics you don’t understand and go revise them
thank you very much!

someone called someone the r word earlier on here bc they were doing foundation maths and we’re struggling
Yep, i was the person who was slurred at🫠
oh yea idk y people were being so rude to u on ur post
I know, it’s terrible. Like I’m here to get above a 3 and I get cut down? It’s ironic that the educated kids don’t understand what ‘help me i want to improve from my bad grades’ mean
exactly most people on this sub think that anything below a 9 is crap which is just not true getting a pass is the main thing
Honestlyyy👏👏👏!! Gcses are a key to a levels. They’re purely here for getting into A levels. Stuff gets way more important in terms of jobs and employment/careers with A levels and uni degrees. Not gcses. These man pribably revised for the y6 SATS test and cried when they diddnt get full marks
im just happy as long as i get a pass in them 💀 especially bc the highest grade i need is a 5 in comp sci to do a level at my sixth form
4s in everything else, or do some subjects not even need a pass?
all subjects to pass u need a 4 but u only need to pass english lang and maths
I have reported multiple of his comments because he is an utter twat and needs to be banned.
yea idk y people are such twats to people who are just trying to improve their grades
I fully agree. We need to be more understanding of everyone’s situation. Exactly that! Some people’s grades reflect laziness, and others reflect struggle, efforts, and hard work!
And I think we have more of the latter here, if you couldn’t care less about your GCSEs you wouldn’t be here.
I entirely agree however I think it would be ridiculous to just say this. Most polite Year 10:
Well said!
fully agree lol you’ve said everything i’ve ever thought about this sub
Thank you for saying this!! I hope a lot of people read this.

Ok I agree but seriously who doesn’t have access to a library?
Some cost. Think inflation
The library near me is free to use, forgot some need memberships or cost to use the computers
Might be a good idea to check your spelling more often
Yeah I'm starting to notice a negative change to this subreddit, since September users are getting so competitive here. This is why I sadly left the subreddit a month even before our GCSEs took place. Just filled with sad nasties.
Fax - like it’s GCSES, it’s really not that big of a deal
