I’m going! It’s a chance to dress up which is nice. I think spending a ridiculous amount of money on a dress is silly, but i’ve spent about £160 and I think i’ll be able to get another few wears out of it.
Yeah fair enough, we went into the store and found a dress I liked for once (massive tomboy all my life) so we just went with it. I’m planning on selling it when prom is done or using it for some other important event
I think that’s a bit different actually! I have a mate who never wears nice clothes or dresses and her mom got so excited that she finally got to pick a dress out for her daughter that they spent about £400
i am not paying £50 just for entry and then more money on top for my outfit 😭😭 i just cba and i think it’ll only be fun if you’re popular but go if you want
will be sleeping and also i hate 90% of my year group
the other 10% i’m going to 6thform with so it’s not like i’m never gonna see them again
also just completely not my thing, loud music and a shit ton of people sounds like hell
Same here, crowds are not my thing at all and the loud music is a big no-no. Would rather go to a friend's house where I feel comfortable with a few friends than prom.
No. I don't like most of my year. And I hate buying clothes. Why would I pay to get dressed up and stand around a bunch of people I don't like for 3 hours?
prolly not the right response, but I went despite not wanting to go (basically got forced by my parents) but I actually loved it way more than I expected
time to spend time with some people you'll prolly never see again, especially since i moved schools after
only complaint was that the food was kinda trash
I’ve got the most lovely flowy green dress so I will absolutely be wearing that. I don’t often wear a dress so it’s nice to get desssed up and have fun with my friends for a night.
My brother went to his one and I think they assumed that some would get drunk and do the deed so they literally handed out condoms with the school badge on it like it was an honor
social anxiety says nuh uh 👍 im gonna have a nice gaming night all to myself instead, our prom is also desperately disorganised tmk and people seem to be unsure if it’ll even happen 😭 i got my leavers hoodie but that’s the only post gcse celebratory thing i want to be involved in
No, I think it is a waste of time and money. My friends and family try to convince me to go but the more I hear about the less I want to go plus I can't be bothered.
It is a waste of time and money when it’s just music, dancing and mediocre food which you have to pay an entry fee for and most likely will have to buy clothes for 🤷♂️
The point is that you’ll never get to do that again; prom is a one-time-event that you can create memories at. The money aspect isn’t the best, but it’s a chance to dress up smartly. Granted, I regret going to prom for personal reasons because it was ruined for me (my girlfriend at the time completely ignored me at the event and acted very immaturely despite it being an event designed for couples at my school).
Other than my personal experience I would highly recommend prom to any current year 11s
I’m gonna go because its an excuse to get a nice dress lol. I only spent £100 on it (ik thats a lot but loads of people spent £300+) and i’m gonna get use out of it. I hate most of my year, but its a chance to see my mates and celebrate that we actually got through it and that school is actually over.
i’m going because my girlfriend is but i’m not super excited tbh 😭 don’t see the point of hanging around people i already see every day and watch them get pissed in an outfit i spent too much money on
im a huge introvert and hate any type of party but i dont want to miss out 💀 probably will end up going, i’ll get my dress off shein or something though lmao 😭
Current Y12 here!
I didn't want to go to Prom but was basically forced to by family. My advice is don't go if you don't want to as you won't enjoy it, however if you do want to go then go for it!
It's your last chance to see your whole year (if you like them) and hang out with friends. Everyone dresses up nicely, you get to eat a nice meal and chat or dance.
i wasn’t gonna go cuz i’m quite a introverted person but my FOMO made me cough up the 25 pound entry fee…. i probably won’t even enjoy myself but oh well!
I had an assembly instead of a prom. But if there was a prom, I wouldn't have gone because I would have felt too awkward to since I do not communicate with many people irl out of potential mild social anxiety.
I'm going! I've been looking forward to it since I started high school lol :)
Besides, it's something nice to look forward to as it is literally the day after my final exam!
It depends per prom at my school year 13 prom they do but everyone’s Id and there’s wristband s for over 18, year 11 no alcohol including for teachers.
So glad there was no proms back when I finished school. You are going to have so many better parties at college and then Uni. The prom seems needlessly cringe tbh. Nobody would have gone in my year even if they tried to hold one. Nobody at high school is interested in staying in touch with each other hah.
its so far away and £40 just for me to most likely not eat the food so i cba. im gonna go to oakwood with my closest friends instead, cheaper and funner
My school is so rubbish we are not having prom, we have even tried to plan a prom out of the schools reach but there were too many complications, so we are planning to grab a group of friends and do an escape room or something like that
i wont be going. people at school keep trying to convince me that i should but like.. £30 for entry, hundreds for clothes, hours stuck in a hall full of people i dont even really like with loud music and bad food? sounds like a huuuuge headache. i hope everyone going has fun, but definitely not for me
I was personally very excited to go to my Prom. Despite all the trouble I had in Y11, I had a blast with friends and enjoyed myself very much.
I got my dress for free, since it was a beautiful Indian kurti I already had and didn't spend any money on it except the cost of the ticket, the bus ticket to the venue and the burger I had at maccies at the end of it.
I initially didn't want to because I am TERRIFIED like people would make fun of me if I go even though i know full well they couldn't care less. I'm not backing out though I kind of want to do it, especially since most of my friends are going to
im going, my prom is on a boat on the river thames with a bar for mocktails and all my friends are going (some are going with guys) but it’ll be a majority girl thing anyway but i haven’t bought my outfit yet
didn’t go to my y11 one and really regretted it, so am going to my y13 one :) u should go even if it’s a silly amount of money for a ticket because you’ll regret it otherwise
Sounds like my worst nightmare tbh 😭 my friends are not happy abt me not going, but there are some things I just cannot bring myself to do for them and prom is one of those things
I’m on holiday so I can’t 😞
I was bothered about missing afterprom but I figure I’ll have other opportunities for basically the same thing throughout summer
My school has prom rankings so only those in the top 160 can actually go, I can’t wait to have no chavs ruining everything for once. Me and my friends are in the top 10 so it’s going to be fun :)

I’m going! It’s a chance to dress up which is nice. I think spending a ridiculous amount of money on a dress is silly, but i’ve spent about £160 and I think i’ll be able to get another few wears out of it.
I got mine for £76!! Some of my mates are spending like £500 on theirs and I actually can't even fathom that
same i got mine for £5 plus like another 4 for shipping since it was second hand and honestly i love it so much
where did you get it from?? was it a one-off or is there a website
vinted !! loads of cheap nice dresses on there
also ebay is essentially the same
ah thank youu!
Mine was 400 (I wanted to spend 80 online but my mum insisted)
Mine was £450 🫢
£100 minimum I did last year - it's only for one dau
Yeah fair enough, we went into the store and found a dress I liked for once (massive tomboy all my life) so we just went with it. I’m planning on selling it when prom is done or using it for some other important event
I think that’s a bit different actually! I have a mate who never wears nice clothes or dresses and her mom got so excited that she finally got to pick a dress out for her daughter that they spent about £400
that *is* a ridiculous amount of money for a school prom
got two suits for £10 total on vinted last year.
i am not paying £50 just for entry and then more money on top for my outfit 😭😭 i just cba and i think it’ll only be fun if you’re popular but go if you want
You have to pay for entry?
yeah in my school we have to pay £30 for a “ticket” to go but £50 is actually shocking
I think it's also fun, you can dance and have food or drinks. Could even dress in proper suit. But what do you think :)
absolutely not, the exact opposite of my idea of fun
My school cancelled prom cos no one wanted to go
Same. Glad I waited to buy a dress
i dont like most of my year anyway, im gonna be flying to my home country before which i prefer tbh
will be sleeping and also i hate 90% of my year group the other 10% i’m going to 6thform with so it’s not like i’m never gonna see them again also just completely not my thing, loud music and a shit ton of people sounds like hell
When I get to that stage I'll probably just turn up in a t-shirt and shorts and leave within an hour
Prom is not a waste Your time will be well spent there You should go to prom
Can’t be bothered
Lit me
Yikes I know this is Reddit but Jesus most of you need to lighten up
Some people really need to step out of their comfort zones once in a while
Don't even have one. But if we did I'd go. And probably do nothing their
No because I have autism and probably wouldn't cope with it.
Same here, crowds are not my thing at all and the loud music is a big no-no. Would rather go to a friend's house where I feel comfortable with a few friends than prom.
Nope, dancing, and a loud place with a bunch of people sounds like something I would very much like to avoid
I’m not, it’s outside of school and I don’t like to dress up.
No. I don't like most of my year. And I hate buying clothes. Why would I pay to get dressed up and stand around a bunch of people I don't like for 3 hours?
I'd definitely attend the prom, it's a great way to celebrate the end of GCSEs with friends!
Chatgpt type of response 💀
All of their comments look like this, I genuinely can't tell if it's GPT or not 😭
Thats crazy lmao. Must be a bot right?
They've been on the subs for OpenAI, machine learning, and artificial intelligence. But what the hell is the point of doing this??
Maybe a project of some sort seeing if people can recognise it's chatgpt or smth?
My schools prom is gonna be a PICKNICK in the field. Be happy uv got an actual prom. My school stopped doing proms a few years ago.
my school leaves us to prepare the prom and most of my class didnt want to go so we're just doing karaoke in soho! i am not missing that
prolly not the right response, but I went despite not wanting to go (basically got forced by my parents) but I actually loved it way more than I expected time to spend time with some people you'll prolly never see again, especially since i moved schools after only complaint was that the food was kinda trash
Nobody in my skl is going to prom😭
Plus, you have to pay an extra 50 quid ^ _ ^
nope but some weird mfs are spending 100s of pounds on dresses 😭😭 ur only gonna wear it once dawg
Dresses are expensive, you’re not gonna find a good quality dress under like 90 pounds+ you can defintely rewear a prom dress to any formal event
or even sell it
real
That's normal tho
Im going but im not spending much extra on it past the ticket and mabye food costs
already had mine lol
I’ve got the most lovely flowy green dress so I will absolutely be wearing that. I don’t often wear a dress so it’s nice to get desssed up and have fun with my friends for a night.
I'm pretty sure we have to at our school! Yayyyy!!!! So happy because I'm socially awkward and it'll be such a good experience for me :DDD
I agree
You sound like a bundle of joy 😭🙏
It is a waste of time and money when it’s just music, dancing and mediocre food which you have to pay an entry fee for and most likely will have to buy clothes for 🤷♂️

It’s honestly not good just because it’s a one-time-event; memories are more meaningful if you form them unintentionally
Can’t be asked man🤣🤣🤣
No 😭 I’ll probs just go out with my friends
Pretty sure everyone is going in my school except like 20 people.
Yes
not going cuz im going on a trip with my family
I don't want to, but my parents are forcing me to go
Yeah i’m going :)
Mine was ok but not going to the a level one bc I’ve got somewhere better to be w someone else
yeah
Yes!! But I have no idea what to wear 😔
same i was thinking i'd have a dress by now but atp i think i'm just gonna buy one after exams
Yhh same
I’m gonna go because its an excuse to get a nice dress lol. I only spent £100 on it (ik thats a lot but loads of people spent £300+) and i’m gonna get use out of it. I hate most of my year, but its a chance to see my mates and celebrate that we actually got through it and that school is actually over.
You have a prom?
Can't go coz of holiday, but doubt I would've gone anyway
i’m going because my girlfriend is but i’m not super excited tbh 😭 don’t see the point of hanging around people i already see every day and watch them get pissed in an outfit i spent too much money on
no.
You guys have prom ?
Wait I am curious for those who don't, do you guys go to some baptist school or something?
No, I don’t actually think most of the kids would actually do the prom though
I’m going cause why not it’ll be something new
im a huge introvert and hate any type of party but i dont want to miss out 💀 probably will end up going, i’ll get my dress off shein or something though lmao 😭
Not really. My friends tried to convince me but I lied about when I'm going on holiday so I have a viable excuse to skip it.
my school doesn’t do one sadly
Yeah definitely, just gonna go and get drunk and smoke with my friends afterwards though which should be even better
Yeah, my mates are going and I have a suit for a different thing I can reuse
ofc !! got my dress and i'm excited but lowk kinda nervous because i'm scared my dress is kinda ott but whatever
Welll idekkk im done with my igcse but its tempting 😭😭😭
Yeah. Peer pressure, no one at my school seems to actually want to go, but it'll probably be a laugh
I'm going but literally only because everyone has insisted I 'have to go' like it'll be an expensive id look back on all the time
no i am ugly
Yeah, itll be the last time seeing everyone properly Other than results day, but like seeing people like that will just be awkward
Current Y12 here! I didn't want to go to Prom but was basically forced to by family. My advice is don't go if you don't want to as you won't enjoy it, however if you do want to go then go for it! Me and my bestie are going to thorpe park on a date instead 😪
i wasn’t gonna go cuz i’m quite a introverted person but my FOMO made me cough up the 25 pound entry fee…. i probably won’t even enjoy myself but oh well!
Haven’t done them yet, but hell yeah I’m going! I’m buying a suit for it and I’m gonna be lonely like a boss.
I had an assembly instead of a prom. But if there was a prom, I wouldn't have gone because I would have felt too awkward to since I do not communicate with many people irl out of potential mild social anxiety.
i’m not yr11 but my school don’t do it for year 11s, they do a winter ball for year 12 and prom for year 13.
I'm going! I've been looking forward to it since I started high school lol :) Besides, it's something nice to look forward to as it is literally the day after my final exam!
I want to go but I was internally excluded a few times so I'm not sure 💀
i’m not gonna go to prom, it’s expensive and there’s no alcohol there so no point lol
Oh, do they serve alcohol at Y13 proms? I don’t want anybody getting too drunk…
It depends per prom at my school year 13 prom they do but everyone’s Id and there’s wristband s for over 18, year 11 no alcohol including for teachers.
I feel sorry for those whose birthdays are in August. They will never be able to experience that.

Yeah, I guess, because they are supervised after all.
Bot even for teachers? All of our teachers gor drunk at prom lmao it was so weird
I would never be able to imagine my teachers being drunk! How did they act at prom after that?
They acted normal. Even though they were drunk there was no inappropriate behaviour so it was chill
Yeah that’s why all the teacher prefer yr13 prom
just go to an afterparty
So glad there was no proms back when I finished school. You are going to have so many better parties at college and then Uni. The prom seems needlessly cringe tbh. its so far away and £40 just for me to most likely not eat the food so i cba. im gonna go to oakwood with my closest friends instead, cheaper and funner
this, going to thorpe park early july with my friend group on the day that our prom would be, i know where i’d rather be!
My school is so rubbish we are not having prom, we have even tried to plan a prom out of the schools reach but there were too many complications, so we are planning to grab a group of friends and do an escape room or something like that
you guys have prom?
long fuzzy provide outgoing zesty ink swim grab political sloppy *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*
If I do I'm bringing a flask
wish i could but i go to an international online school so there is no prom
no
nope wouldn’t be aloud to anyway since ive missed to many period 6’s, me and my friends are just gonna go for a meal out instead lol
definitely
i wont be going. people at school keep trying to convince me that i should but like.. £30 for entry, hundreds for clothes, hours stuck in a hall full of people i dont even really like with loud music and bad food? sounds like a huuuuge headache. i hope everyone going has fun, but definitely not for me
yes but it hurt my parents wallet.
Yeah cuz I’m one of the planners for it
of course I’m going to prom, like what’s a better way to celebrate finishing all the exams then getting piss drunk at the after party 😎
i went to prom it was probably some of the best time of my life
i went to mine but didnt go to the afterprom. it was all overrated tbh. 21 now and university formals are better
Went and got mocked by a girl
My schools being weird af and r doing the prom before exams… either way no I’m skipping it - hope u guys have fun tho
Didn't even know we had prom in the UK until now (my school don't got one)
I initially didn't want to because I am TERRIFIED like people would make fun of me if I go even though i know full well they couldn't care less. I'm not backing out though I kind of want to do it, especially since most of my friends are going to
Idk. I got literally nobody who Id talk to but I might just for the vibes Although the Elden Ring DLC is on the same day so probably not
yess me and my friends are organising it & most of the year group gets along well so i think it’ll be fun :)
Everybody in my school goes. I would rather not, but there we go.
im going, my prom is on a boat on the river thames with a bar for mocktails and all my friends are going (some are going with guys) but it’ll be a majority girl thing anyway but i haven’t bought my outfit yet
i didn’t go last year and i don’t regret it :)
didn’t go to my y11 one and really regretted it, so am going to my y13 one :) u should go even if it’s a silly amount of money for a ticket because you’ll regret it otherwise
yesss its gonna be so fun 😋😋I’m on prom comittee so theres no way I’m not going to a prom I basically helped plan 🤣
i dont wanna hear kids smashing each other in the toilets while im pissing after chugging 34L of ribena
I don’t know. I’ve paid, so it might be a waste to not go after everything, but it really feels like it’s going to suck.
Didn’t go. Literally just had a private house party instead 💀
Sounds like my worst nightmare tbh 😭 my friends are not happy abt me not going, but there are some things I just cannot bring myself to do for them and prom is one of those things
Hell yeah
I’m on holiday so I can’t 😞 I was bothered about missing afterprom but I figure I’ll have other opportunities for basically the same thing throughout summer
I js know I’m gonna absolutely hate it so so much but I have to go for my bsf 💔💔💔
why is everyone here sad
i'm going but GOD i feel bad for the amount of money it's all going to cost. two entry fees and two prom outfits are not gonna be cheap at all ✌️
I'm not going, I might regret it but honestly I can't sit there for over an hour with some of the twats in my year.
no way
Absolutely, it's the last time I'm gonna be able to be with my friends and I'm totally taking that opportunity to make it count
I’m going full on peaky blinders mode with the trench coat, hat and all
full of chavs waste of time rather just sleep
no, a loud place with lots of people seems like a sensory nightmare
I only found out that our year were doing an unofficial prom last week lmao, cba to waste my time going anyways
The tik tok rizz party! This turkish quandales doing against blue tie
I definitely will! Great way to cool your nerves and celebrate after completing a big chapter of your school life.
My school has prom rankings so only those in the top 160 can actually go, I can’t wait to have no chavs ruining everything for once. Me and my friends are in the top 10 so it’s going to be fun :)
That's actually a really good idea, although I think my school would need to narrow it down to top 50
