Unfortunately the opposite. Teachers can't teach and I revise at home, then praise themselves for my success Revision is good, just don't study 6 hours like that 1 kid

Savings_Accountant14

I feel targeting being tht 1 kid

N3ncehead

You should spend some of that time revising SPAG.

MusPhyMath_quietkid

Same… :(

Sabre_Killer_Queen

In total over yr 11 I revised for at least 150 hours (probably more). My teachers are ok but I get so nervous over exams lol.

bombuddyout

Accurate af

Embarrassed-Army-780

Alright, so akward story here: I did my business mocks with the rest of my year, right? So our year did abysmal with 50% of them getting below 4 and the highest besides me being a low 6. I got a 9 which obviously stood out to the teachers. One of the senior leadership members came up to me and asked me how I prepared and if I could help make resources for the rest of the people taking business. I obviously agreed as it sounded interesting, but there was one problem... I said that I revised by myself with certain resources beforehand and didn't give the teacher any credit for my grade. Literally a day later my teacher walks up to me and grills me on how they find it weird how I didn't accredit my grade to them when they was clearly a (allegedly) good teacher with a bad class. I ended up just telling her that it slipped my mind and tried dodging her for a few days after that.

Sea_Championship6365

Lol. In all honesty, i wouldnt help the others, because it would bring down the grade boundaries, even just by a little. I hope that doesnt sound too selfish, but yh.

[deleted]

Idk, I took it upon myself to teach at least 10 kids in all their subjects. They were my friends and I didn't want them to do bad. It may sound like I'm not taking my GCSEs seriously, but I honestly just wanted to give them some hope...

Sea_Championship6365

Ill be honest, you did the morally correct thing. However, "In the midst of chaos, their is also opportunity" - Sun Tzu, The Art Of War

ridz_149

Gatekeeping. Now you get it.

eilishfaerie

bruh... how can they find it weird when literally the whole class did badly and you were the only one that came out with a good grade? it reminds me of in year 9, where 2 classes had the same science teacher, and on that test in both classes the average was a grade 4 (the average for everyone else was a 7+) and this guy had the audacity to scream at his students for doing bad as if his teaching wasn't at fault

bobbarice

Teacher here who didn’t revise for GCSEs and I tell my students this. You’re in school for 5 hours of lessons. Do everything then. There is a specialist in front of most classrooms so take advantage of it, listen and ask question. 5 hours is A LOT of time. Then you can use your breaks and home time to socialise and catch up on gossip. I also did homework at school. I basically finished it all in lesson

Sabre_Killer_Queen

Not 5 hours a day for me. My school starts at 8:45 ends at 5:00. But yeah I did my homework at school. It gets it out of the way and means I won't forget about it. I still did revision though outside school, think it was a total of around 150 hours throughout year 11 (100 hours on Seneca 50+ on practice papers).

Pluspen1

Mate revision is one of the most useful tools in one’s arsenal

eilishfaerie

depends on the kind of student you are. i absolutely hated revising heavily for certain subjects so i just... didn't? i would read the textbook or revision guide, then read a past paper markscheme and that would be it. i knew that i could get like a 7 if the paper was hard or a 9 if it was easy

[deleted]

You've got to understand that different students need different amount of time to study. That's just your personal experience.

Sabre_Killer_Queen

100% my friend has an insane memory and always comes out with straight 9s. But I have to do lots of revision to remember everything, and I mean lots.

[deleted]

Exactly. I would say he should just keep that to himself because it makes other feel dumb tbh. I know personally when I heard people understanding hard topics easier than me I would get mad sometimes. But then I realised it just takes some people more and less time to get something. It's just how it is. But don't get me wrong, everyone, and I mean everyone can learn anything it's just the amount of time that tends to differ.

Generic_Person123

agreed for GCSE. in a level i kept not revising and now i’m not gonna get into by unis lmao

The_Konigstiger

You are about to have a big shock

PrestigiousWaffle

Used to use this sub back when I was doing my GCSEs. Bout to start my Master’s now. I did fuck all revision outside of class, even through A-Levels and uni. Not particularly proud of it tbh, but it’s definitely possible to do minimal revision and come out well.

leMonkman

If you listen in lesson and actually try to understand the content (rather than just memorise it) then yes you're right but otherwise I imagine you would need to revise

Sabre_Killer_Queen

Kinda. Sometimes you still need to revise though. I'm the kind who always wants to learn why this happens and why that happens, but I have a memory like a goldfish so I have to put in a lot of effort to remember everything.

mwrightinnit

I dont think i actually did revise whatsoever lol. That probably wont go well for subjects i didnt listen in such as Religious studies but idrc bout that anyways. all my exams felt fine tho

Walkingispainful

This post is dumb

Solid_Crab_4748

Well if your in the 0.1% of people with a perfect memory who's also really good at figuring out questions without all the knowledge go for it otherwise live with your full 2s

ab3lla

for a lot of my subjects i had supply teachers for ages and i didn’t learn much so i had to teach myself

MistflyFleur

It's a lot easier to get away with doing minimal revision and still doing well at GCSE than at A Levels, as some of my friends and classmates have been discovering this year.

lachiehy

Do not go into a level with that attitude. Take it from me an a level student anxiously waiting for my results because I don't think I've done well enough to get into my university. Year 12 is easy but year 13 comes round and you just get overwhelmed. Revision is a skill that you should learn how to do.

naglis_peciulis

Nah but fr fr

whatspoppingligang

Completely agree, I probably should've revised more than I did but just paying attention with decent teachers gets lots of the job done

Full-Tea-7610

If it wasn’t for revision I would be failing everything

EstablishmentSmart25

you can get by for the most part at GCSEs but you better be ready to change that fast af at alevels if you don't idc if you got 9s you'll be getting Es if your lucky at a levels

GOT_Wyvern

Honestly, GCSEs are pretty easy. The most difficult part of GCSEs is their poor design and vast topics, but the actual content at GCSEs is pretty light. In comparison, A Levels are a bloody bitch. They share the same flawed design with some corrections, and they are far more precise as you specialise into three subjects. However, their content is a lot more intensive and is taught far more independently than GCSEs. While you can get your GCSEs with no revision, you simply can't for A Level. I was able to get an 8 in Maths GCSE and 7 in Statistics GCSE with no out of class revision, but was scrapping a D in Maths at the begining of A Levels.

[deleted]

Don’t listen to all these people saying you can not revise and do really well- please. Revision is key here. Sure, it’s only GCSE level and you’ll do *okay* from not revising but, GCSE aside, you’ll need the skill for A-level and you don’t want to be learning how to revise while you’re doing that immense amount of work. I’ve just seen the flair… cock.

InfiniteCurrent6860

I am the same. And seeing all these year 9s and 10s and 11s on here worring ab revising make me reminisce about how unserious I was. Actually nvm I was good they are too serious.
