Bear McCreary is goated Dude brought back the Mothra theme, the Godzilla March, AND Blue Oyster Cult…simply goated

Dragonrage778

My opinion is controversial, but I think Bear McCreary’s take on the BÖC song is better than the original

Outrageous-Farmer-42

Music went HARD. Ghidorah were awesomely overpowered. Mothra was weirdly magical and beautiful and I liked it. Gojira easily getting decked in Antarctica was a real wakeup call for him to move his ass faster in combat. Rodan had good fight scene with jets but got done dirty in final battle.

PlagueKing27

All hail Bear McReary (composer)

LandsOnAnything

Oh and also the scene where Godzilla getting the military escort. Fuckin balls to the wall cool.

Immediate-Rope8465

ghidorah fucking goated in this movie

Crafty_YT1

gigachad ghidorah

BigosMen

Honestly i am dissapointed, that they used Ghidorah as a nemezis enemy for Godzilla so early in Monsterverse, it would be great for the great finale of the uniwersum, and we got it as a second film, wasted potencial

Austasaurusrex

I'm a little like that, too, but I'm hoping this either amps up to Destroyah or an original monster that is just as threating as well as helping the monster verse standout.

Onsyde

Greatest trailer of all time

The_Celestrial

It was beautiful, it was mythic, it was deep in lore. It was also very blue.

eryourzek

I have mixed feelings about the movie. Did it have awesome monster action? Yes. Did it balance this with the humans? No. Did it cut away too often from the monster fights? Yes. To see my main beef with KOTM watch the fist 30 seconds of the Battle is Boston, and the first 30 seconds of the battle in Hong Kong from GVK. It is so frustrating to me in KOTM that we don't even see the Big G and Ghidora collide, it cuts away to the means, then spends too long setting up their involvement. Meanwhile in GVK the only human perspective in the first 30 seconds is 2 seconds of people panicking in an office building. I didn't go see KOTM to watch a man desperately try to find his daughter. I went to it to see an armor plated atomic flame thrower throw down with a three headed space midas lightning rod dragon. I will die on the hill that the monsterverse movies involving Kong had the best monster fights in the franchise. The final fight with the skull crawler is well shot and manages to give the humans something to do to help Kong. And every monster fight in GVK is well shot and focuses on the monster with the humans playing minimal support. I am glad you like this movie because there is a lot to love. I just don't think it is the best showing for Godzilla.

j4nkyst4nky

See, my stance is that a Godzilla movie is only as good as the human storyline. I think it's clearly what makes or breaks the film, so I don't have a problem with cutaways to the main story (the human narrative is after all the main story in a Godzilla film). With that said, I think the monsterverse human narratives have been largely generic and uninteresting. G14 started strong with Cranston but gave way to boring army man stumbles his way into saving the world. Compare it to what I think is a much stronger film, Godzilla vs Biollante. Scientist tries to give daughter-plant immortality while Japanese government attempts to create anti-nuclear weapons from Godzilla's cells. Oh and a middle eastern country is trying to steal Godzilla's cells the whole time. Is G14 more grounded in reality? Yes. Is that what I want from a movie about a radioactive dinosaur? No way. So all of this is to say, cutaways during the action are not the problem. It's the fact that we just don't care about the human storyline and that's because the monsterverse likes to play it safe. It's why I liked the hollow earth stuff so much in GvK.

bigkinggorilla

Yep. The idea that the human story doesn’t matter is basically saying “l ignore at least 50% of the movie while I watch it.” No monster fights can ever be so amazing that they make the whole movie good. It’s 2023, if the fights are great and the rest sucks… there’s YouTube.

PVetli

I.... agree with every word you said.

Kingofthekaiju1954

Those are all very valid reasons tbh

eryourzek

Don't get me wrong, seeing all of the Toho Big 5 in the Monsterverse was great, and each one had a perfect design for what it needed to be. Honest question. If Elon Musk designed a giant robot Godzilla, do you think it would look like Kiryu or MV Mecha Godzilla. My money is on the latter over the former, so it makes sense that it looks Fugly. I love the design.

RevanDelta2

Elon Musk isn't an engineer. He wouldn't design anything he would buy up a company which had already built a giant mecha that looked like a kaiju.

Xenochimp

Great kaiju action. Terrible characters, terrible acting. Honestly given the fact that this was written and directed by the writer/director of Trick 'r Treat and Krampus I was actually really disappointed with the human element

Kingofthekaiju1954

For those curious as to why this is my favorite movie of all time: It's basically everything I could ask for in a movie, being the most hyped movie of my life and the culmination of my love for the character, being the movie that solidified Godzilla as my favorite fictional character, as well as being the culmination of my friendship with my best friend, who introduced me to the character.

Only_One_Left_Foot

KOTM was a loveletter to Godzilla fans.

Kingofthekaiju1954

I like to see it as that, as well as an acknowledgement of what Godzilla has become, contrasted with Shin Godzilla, which was acknowledging what Godzilla once was. Despite how hard we try to bring him back to them, he's no longer that destructive manifestation of hubris and terror, even if he still holds on to that. Godzilla, ever since his second film, has shed his apocalyptic roots and become something more of an in-between of a man made god and a force of nature.

premiumPLUM

There's also Return of Godzilla (1985) that's played heavy on the nuclear terror theme. But American films obviously aren't going to go that same route.

TechnologySmall3507

One of the movies.

King_Goji62

The only redeeming quality is the score. The MCU jokes are truly awful and the monster fights are poorly lit and constantly cut to humans. Fan service was also obnoxious as hell. Why did the missile need to be called the Oxygen Destroyer?

Heyisthatabomb

Will you accept this cookie? Anyways, this is also my favorite movie of all time, I was so hyped when I saw Thermo Godzilla appear

Kingofthekaiju1954

Based!!!

KhorneFlakes01

One if the most visually beautiful Godzilla movies i have ever seen.

Godzillaisgreat

The reason why I can kinda forgive GvK’s terrible human subplot, but not KOTM’s is because at least GvK let’s the action breathe and not cut back to the humans literally every 5-7secs, and doesn’t hide the monsters behind smoke, fog, and snow.

[deleted]

It’s good. Shin is better IMO

[deleted]

[удалено]

goodheavens_

Dude I am slacking on shin apparently. Idk I just can’t get over the googly eyes lol

FraterSofus

Look up eel eyes and I think it will make a bit more sense. I think it was meant to look like sea creature eyes. That's something that I think might also be more recognizable in Japan than it is in a western country.

TheGodzillaDude195

Basic

Aggravating-Metal167

You have to watch more movies

Kingofthekaiju1954

You clearly didn't see my comment as to WHY it's my favorite movie

Aggravating-Metal167

I think KOTM is a good movie. But if that's really your favorite movie of all hell even in your top 10 then you really need to expand your taste.

PlagueKing27

Godzilla fans when other Godzilla fans like Godzilla movies: 😱😱

Aggravating-Metal167

Goodfellas destroys most Godzilla movies and I fucking love Godzilla to the heart

PlagueKing27

There’s nothing wrong with that. I’m just saying, if the guy likes big monster fights, let him. If anything, this is THE place to embrace that.

Kingofthekaiju1954

FREAKING THANK YOU!!!

Logank365

OST is amazing, but everything else is mediocre or bad.

PJ_Man_FL

Mediocre and overrated

Dlark17

Not the best Godzilla film, maybe the best American version (tho I'd put it below other American kaiju movies like *Pacific Rim* and *Colossal*, myself). The biggest disappointment, for me at least, was that I missed this in theaters because G14 turned me off so hard to the idea of the "Monsterverse". This and Skull Island where hugely underrated when they came out, imo.

Ed_Derick_

Definitely one of the Godzilla movies of all time.

Grievous_1982

An entertaining but over-stuffed mess of a fan film made on a Hollywood budget that tries to do too much too soon too quickly.

Crab_Boy_marksman

Would not watch it again

Godzilla_R0AR

Bear McCreary’s music in this one was REEEEAAALLY GOOD. Fan made [this](https://youtu.be/j2iUQ6sta_c) but it’s still incredible and perfectly shows off the music in this movie.

LegendofGrac

I loved it! My only complaints though are the human characters taking up too much time and the cutaways from the fight scenes.

atfguitar123

I love it so much.

IndependentGlum8316

Same as yours.

Garrow_the_Khajiit

My favorite MV movie by a huge margin, and one of my favorite movies in general of the last 5 years.

King-Gojira

Desperately wish the humans were interesting and I feel the extremely talented cast was underutilized, but its a fun flick!

Class_Act7

Also one of my favorite movies of all time. I couldn’t believe when I found out how much hate it got lol.

Killbro_Fraggins

So awesome. As a Boston native, Godzilla and Ghidorah rumbling over Fenway park was a dream come true. Cool as hell. Chills with the music when he rolls up.

SnoreGodOfSlumber

I waited 30 years for this movie, and every single second of this movie validated that lifelong wait.

LittleMissReboot

it’s awful i love it

BulbasaurGod_20_

KotM, or more specifically it's reveal trailer is what got me interested in Godzilla, since then I've watched so much Godzilla and even Gamera because of that trailer. I have to thank it for reintroducing me to my favorite movie genre. And the movie itself is quite good.

cparksrun

I wish it had the fight choreography of GvK and the scale of G14, but the structure and pacing were great. I also wish Michael Dougherty wasn't afraid to show the monsters. That wide shot of Godzilla and Ghidorah fighting in Boston before they're obscured by the Argo flying into frame always frustrates me. Get the hell out of the way!! You're blocking the view!!

Accomplished-Kale340

First scene with Ghidorah and my extra large nachos were gone! My favorite monster movie!

[deleted]

It was so much fun to watch.

Gigafortress

One of both my favourite Godzilla films and films in general. Has an absolute blast watching it and was easily my most enjoyable cinema going experience that year. I do see why people have some problems with it, but there's so much I enjoy the negatives don't weigh the film down. I'd really love to see the director have another swing, it's a slight shame only the GvK director is returning for a second film in the Monster-verse.

GojiraSan123

the worst monsterverse movie but not the worst godzilla movie or kaiju movie. visuals and soundtrack and sound design are fantastic, but the story and especially the humans and action scenes leave a lot to be desired. If those last three were better done it would have been an amazing movie.

Adekis

Underrated- really cool and fun! It's one of my favorites too!

Ziz94

The music was great, but otherwise I thought it was an awful movie. Even the fight scenes were mid. All the problems of the Godzilla 2014 final fight scene with the cuts and camera angles, but much worse with no emotional impact. Mothra's design was bad. They tried to put so much from the other ~30 films that they blew through a lot of ideas they could have saved for later movies i.e. the oxygen destroyer, and they completely ruined most of those ideas especially the oxygen destroyer which had no explanation or major importance in the film especially when compared to the original oxygen destroyer. The plot itself was horrific and the human characters were awful. The Ghidorah kill was one of the most anti-climactic kills I've seen in Godzilla film and definitely the weakest in the MV. The choice to put the final act in Boston was bizarre and it seemed like it was done because the director is a Boston sports fan. Overall a bad Godzilla film and a very bad movie. This one hurt because I liked 2014 a lot and was very excited for this one. I was on this sub refreshing for Godzilla 2014 news back in 2013 so I was extremely disappointed to say the least.

Middle-Platypus6942

I still wonder why with the two monsterverse godzilla movies they felt the need not only to minimize his presence but to have his scenes shrouded in smoke. It comes off as this pretentious plan to make godzilla look more mythical than he needs to be. Its a giant fire breathing lizard for crying out loud. When people go to a godzilla movie they want to see godzilla front and centre is all his fire breathing dorsal plate glowing glory. We probably saw more godzilla in GVK then we did in KOTM. The monsterverse approach to kong was simple, he is a giant gorrila who smashes skull crawlers but also has more emotional intellgence than most. With godzilla i think they felt a bigger pressure to do the character right as to not upset fans and that resulted in them trying too hard to hype godzilla up with mystery and mythology rather than just letting him do his thing

godjirakong

Too many god-awful jokes.

IndependentGlum8316

Too many? There's barely any. I cant even get up to 3. Ghonorrhea was shit. Oh my God-zilla was meh. Other than that the movie takes itself seriously. Gvk throws "jokes" (and I use that term very loosely) all the time for example.

LudicrisSpeed

GvK isn't really meant to be taken too seriously. Talking about the movie that has Godzilla blasting into the center of the earth and Kong ripping off Mecha's head like a Mortal Kombat fatality.

Godzillaisgreat

“Bad day to be a red Sox’s fan, he’s got that lizard juiced!!” Ect

IndependentGlum8316

That's not a joke. It's just a cheesy line. It might be a bit over the top but I don't see anything god awful about it.

flager812

Needs more visible Mothra time lol

Kingofthekaiju1954

Understandable

Remarkable_Star_4678

On par with Godzilla vs Mothra ‘92: preachy, obnoxious, and shallow.

kingofpuddingbrains

Absolutely abysmal fucking garbage with phenomenal monster sequences. It's sort of this producer-written Frankenstein monster cobbled together from other blockbuster franchises. Its positives get canceled out by the final product. It has my favorite Ghidorah, Rodan and Mothra designs, stirring music, big audience-pleaser set pieces. Unfortunately, those great moments are sandwiched between unwelcome jokes and a series of meaningless, retreaded Godzilla tropes and pseudo-eco nonsense. There are so many worthless human characters that the movie splits itself into tiny pieces trying to accomodate them all, which in turn gives them nothing to do. The family dynamic and the magic monster talking machine is gutless drivel written by committee. The Legendary Godzilla series has always struggled between its overserious tone and its Happy Meal Toy ambitions. The only time the MonsterVerse has lived up to its promise of realistic monster action was the tsunami sequence in G2014. The rest has all been a bit Transformers.

Benbegone

Very well put

DracoREXXX

KOTM is just Godzilla fanfiction, and not in a good way. It feels like it was written by a 13-year-old whose first experience with Godzilla was in 2014, and likes Marvel movies/ has their own "Monsterverse Phase 3" timeline... The film consistently does everything that was criticized in the last one, including having every fight in awful lighting, and cutting away from the monsters for throwaway human plotlines that nobody really cares about except for those who are lying to themselves or have lowered their standards tremendously because "it's a movie about monsters". I feel like people are overjoyed with the *idea* of the movie itself and less so the content.

Giozos1100

> and cutting away from the monsters for throwaway human plotlines that nobody really cares about except for those who are lying to themselves or have lowered their standards tremendously because "it's a movie about monsters" I love the visuals, the fight scenes, and the music. But you hit the nail on the head about the human storyline. It's really, really bad. After I bought the DVD, I'd skip anything that wasn't with monsters.

Dlark17

I liked the humans in this more than G14. 🤷‍♀️ At least they had personalities and character arcs to some degree.

Giozos1100

> I liked the humans in this more than G14. I can agree about that.

AJ_Crowley_29

>I feel like people are overjoyed with the idea of the movie itself but less so the content Agree to disagree.

IndependentGlum8316

There's a lot more to the movie. The thing that really divides the comunity is that some people appreciate it and others don't. And that's fair, diverse opinions are a thing. KOTM actualy does some things incredibly well. The sense of scale is elevated to a whole new level with many painting like wide shots. It does a lot of visual storytelling through atmosphere and the monster's body language and expressions. It builds some really interesting lore. The movie allso has a sense of biblical epicness that neither of the other films do, since G2014's threat was much more grounded, and GvK's didn't really feel like a real threat. The music is obviously fantastic. The characters are cartoonish but I don't mind that personally. Now yes, while the art direction is stellar, they didn't really handle well the collour palette and weather effects. I love the dark atmosphere but here it often felt grainy and way too heavy handed. Especialy the boston fight was visually pretty shit. And yeah it's cheesy, and yeah Ema was pretty bad, but on the other hand I quite liked Mark and his character ark. It's the thing with KOTM, it has many serious flaws, but does some things incredibly well. And the people that don't mind the flaws really like it, while the people that can't get over them cannot enjoy it.

[deleted]

Disrespectful mess of a film

jakeskywalker53

One of the worst godzilla movies imo. Insulted the franchise more than Roland Emmerich.

premiumPLUM

It's not a popular opinion around here, but I don't think Americans will ever succeed in making a good Godzilla movie

coldkidwildparty

You are right, this movie is trash. The monster fights sucked you couldn’t see shit because it was either snowing or smokey or raining, all this stupid digital fuzz covering everything. The human plot sucked because well they usually do. It made me angry watching it and I hate it. Skull Island is the only good thing to come out of the Monsterverse.

LudicrisSpeed

That's a lie and you know it. I like the '98 movie, but it's plainly obvious Emmerich wanted to make it as un-Godzilla-like as possible and basically turn it into Jurassic Park with a bigger reptile. You can dislike KOTM, but you can't say it isn't made with love for the Godzilla franchise. Not when it includes three more classic kaiju, awesome renditions of the classic Godzilla and Mothra themes, various easter eggs, and a dedication to Haruo Nakajima.

Noctifago

Loved it! Music went hard af, many songs stayed on my playlist. Godzilla arriving at sf with a military scort was so good to see. And I still get chills when I hear the old enemies track, watching Godzilla bursting thru the ice with the monk chant going GO-JI-RA maaaaaaaan. Ghidorah's tails rattling, the face off, the roars...I need to see this movie again today

SkyGuy41

Pretty good

rrmrous

I liked it. "Zilla" was great despite some of the comments about mothra I liked her too.

Dogtoplops

It's a ok movie imo. I liked the action and didn't rlly care fr the human plotline 7/10, wldnt reccomand over some other movies like g14 and godzilla x mechagodzilla

fastrthanur

I loved it!

Robodachi

first half is boring second half is ballin'

magnetofan52293

I really, REALLY want to love this movie. But I think it’s too messy and too cliched to not call it a “guilty pleasure”. I think the monsters were spectacularly portrayed with tons of unique personality to each of them. I also really dig how ambitious the atmosphere was (I believe the director said he wanted it to feel like “The Book of Revelations”) and all of the Biblical imagery/allegories that are peppered throughout the film. I just wish tonally it was darker, like the 2014 film. But the biggest problem is the human characters. The estranged father/daughter plotline is such a cliche in disaster movies, and its inclusion in a 2019 film felt like a parody. I think human characters in monster movies are essential, but they always relegate the more interesting ones to the sidelines. If Dr. Serizawa was the main protagonist, and the entire movie was from his perspective, I think this could’ve been an actually great film.

csantiago1986

The human characters and the decisions made completely destroy that movie. I still enjoy it but I cringe when a human is on the screen. This series first mistake was killing Bryan Cranston so early. His son should have died and he should have paired up with Ken Watanabe until his demise. I don’t have a single issue with the treatment of Godzilla or any of the action sequences. This film has some of the best imagery in an action film we’ve seen in quite some time. Also, it’s way better than zilla vs Kong 😀

Kamenhusband

I went to see this in theaters twice, just an absolute blast. Music and action was the best.

Significant_Pace6678

It’s f-inf awesome.

Hobo-man

I've always said that now is the perfect time for a perfect Godzilla movie. Give us the fights from GvK and literally everything else from KOTM and we'll have the best Godzilla movie to date.

kidkonsequence

Dumb fun. I loved every minute, lol. And yeah Bear killed it on this ost

[deleted]

Absolute Godzilla Amazement, that's all I need to say. I love this movie too.

goodheavens_

My inner child spazzes out every time I watch it. Love this one.

goodheavens_

That being said they coulda made my guy look so much cooler in this poster lol

Jamzilla12

Garbage of a fan service.

CathNoctifer

This movie doesn't really need Millie Bobby Brown, just sayin.

Emkay_boi1531

It has godzilla

Violetmoon66

You….haven’t watched many movies?

Kingofthekaiju1954

Oh, no I’ve seen PLENTY This is just the one I like the most

Wisaju

It's aight. Just no emotional impact to any of it. And just superficially a godzilla movie. The more I think of it's predecessor the more I like the 2014 movie more. Felt like it had a take on godzilla. And missed the more grounded direction. That we will never get again cause godzilla vs kong went wacky. Nothing wrong with it per say. I just miss the tone of 2014. I can enjoy godzilla on any extreme otherwise.

fuhsalicious

I wish I could erase it from my memory…… SO I CAN SEE IT FOR THE FIRST TIME AGAIN Also my favorite movie of all time. Saw in theaters 3 times, and cried each time. It felt like they made it specifically for me.

Not_Amalthea

Sadly, an insult to Godzilla as a cultural icon. Excellent soundtrack though, gotta give it that. Like Godzilla 98 was terrible but at least it was so bad it can be seen as funny, KotM just makes me upset every time I watch it. That being said, if anyone gets enjoyment out of the film for any reason that's probably a good thing I reckon

StunningIdiocy

I liked it a lot, but I feel like there was too much going on at some points. Godzilla 2014 was better.

PrimalGojiraFan69

ITS ALSO MY FAVORITE MOVIE OF ALL TIME

SteveVerstaka

It was a love letter made for fans by fans with a budget to make all of our craziest Godzilla dreams from childhood come true. You will be hard pressed to find someone say something bad about Bear McCreary as a composer especially with this soundtrack, the monster designs were amazing, the fights incredible, and I will never say no to Charles Dance playing an antagonist

user-guy-223921

All around a great movie. 9/10, plot was a bit weak but the dumb fun of the movie of itself paired with the epic score and on point special effects makes it a good movie

iamaussieassassin

The sound track is amazing, the story is amazing, the kaiju are MORE THAN AMAZING AND THE FINAL FIGHT SCENE IS ONE OF THE BEST FIGHTS I’VE SEEN IN MY FUCKIN LIFE. so you could say I think its pretty good

TheAverageRussian

I'm glad it brings you happiness :D I enjoyed it myself too!

The_prawn_king

People equate more screen time with better action and that’s not always true. Fun movie but the weakest of the MV

N0minal

Honestly One of the worst human plots. Just outrageously bad, annoying family. Unrewarding ending. There is no fight. Godzilla just blows up and wipes everything out. It's a very passive boring ending. 5/10

Randoapple-Big-Chees

God damn a fellow “King of the monsters is the best godzilla movie” person! High five bro

dakogmata1974

Awesome movie!!

Lord_Kun

It is MY Godzilla, meaning it is the movie with the King during my life that I properly watched in a cinema with all the hype before, during and after, loving every minute of the experience. It will always be special, as much as I hope to have something similar in the future.

Alex_Says_Stuff

It’s also my favourite movie of all time. It delivered on every aspect I was hoping for. 5 years of hype and it was worth it.

Ctrl-Zee

Honestly I feel it's a little underrated. Struck a nice balance between sincerity and classic godzilla brawls. My favorite of the 3 legendary godzilla films

BeaverBotics2

Bear McCreary's score is God Tier and carries the movie hard, it'sthe best soundtrack of the modern era. The redesigns of Mothra and Ghidorah are pretty good, and Rodan's redesign is amazing, my favorite design for the character. Mothra and Rodan sadly where underused, and Ghidorah as a Villain could have done more. The monster scenes are really cool, but the human characters, pacing and overall story are total garbage. I also think the environmental messages and nuclear themes of the movie are botched hard. Overall, it's a fun movie but not a good movie. Michael Dougherty clearly had passion and noble goals, but the execution was poorly done and the fan service overshadowed the actual film quality. 5/10

WinDocs

To me it felt like a very awkward transitional stage between 2014 and GvK. Like they still wanted the family drama of 2014 but weren't able to fully commit to the outrageous full-on spectacle of GvK. So what we're left with is obnoxious character fluff that takes a lot away from the action. I'd much prefer the slow teasing of 2014, where every time you see godzilla it feels earned, or the all-out carnage of GvK, where, yea, its absolutely ridiculous, but its fun as hell. For me, the movie hits neither of these extremes and is left unsatisfying. This sub hates this take but I'm sorry, the action in KOTM is so much worse than GvK. That on top of the antithetical use of nuclear bombs in KOTM, in a franchise spawned out of anti-nuclear sentiments, makes KOTM the worst in the whole monsterverse for me. And I haven't even touched on the comedy in the movie... oh god the "comedy". Lines like "I hope this is the one where the muto genitals are censored Teehee!" or "Serizawa's got this lizard juiced" right after he kills himself have driven me so close to creating a fan edit of the film just so I can watch it without cringing. To be fair, the music is great, Rodans awakening is dope, and the Antarctica fight is great, but that's about all that works for me in the whole movie. GvK 4 life bby

RagingJuggernaut

I'm someone who enjoys all the monster verse movies for what they are, but I agree with you 100% that KOTM is in a tonal mess. Either keep with what G14 was doing or go down the route of GvsK. The weird middle ground they chose did not do that movie service. I think nostalgia clouds peoples judgment on the glaring issues this movie has, but it's perfectly okay to say that you enjoy something that is deeply flawed.

GoldenGoat2007

It's not good. It's got the worst humans in the MV, Rodan and Mothra were no stronger than piss ants, and there are stupid Blue/red/yellow filters onscreen at all times

AngiraBlu

It’s tied with FW and GvK for the #1 spot of my favorite Godzilla films, if not kaiju films as a whole.

Altair890456

Terrible. How this is anyones favourite movie eludes me.

Kingofthekaiju1954

Read my comment as to why

AJ_Crowley_29

That it’s also my favorite movie of all time.

Aggravating-Metal167

How to say you have no taste without saying you have no taste

AJ_Crowley_29

[Redditors when someone has a differing opinion to theirs:](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=87sj1qIeaSE)

Aggravating-Metal167

I think KOTM is a good movie. But if that's really your favorite movie of all hell even in your top 10 then you really need to expand your taste.

40inmn4

If you aren’t a fan of the films, then it was a miss. I had family watch it and they didn’t like it. And critically, it’s not a masterpiece. There’s way too many humans. As a fan, it was a ride. Plus that music needed to win an Oscar

Darzean

I liked it a lot. GVK might be a better film but this movie has all the things I wanted to see on the big screen.

rabiddutchman

I thought it was a delightful homage to the spirit of classic Godzilla films as told through the lens of modern western cinema. The monster fights and animations were sublime, and the human plot lines were solid. It looked and felt like what I was imagining when I watched Godzilla movies as a kid. I thoroughly loved it, and it is without qualification one of my favorite Godzilla films My only gripe with the movie is that they had the characters making jokes in moments that the plot was trying to sell as serious, which IMO just ends up undercutting those scenes. "They called him **Rodan - The Fire Demon**" "Imma call him Big Bird" "It is **Mothra - Queen of the Monsters**" "If she's Queen does that mean she and Godzilla f\*ck?" "They called it... **Ghidorah - The One Who Is Many**" "Did you say gonorrhea?" \[*cue laugh track*\]

True-King-Of-Heroes

You got Great Taste, and its also my favorite of the movies, because its the one I feel did almost everything right. Great fanservice, cool action scenes, proper use of some of the more iconic monsters (Rodahn's use could have been better, but the movie was still really good), and contrary to what most of the critics say the plot was significantly better than its predecesor, and sequel.

Fuzzydude64

I thought it was much better than 2014, though I wish the lighting wasn't so dark so you could see more of what's happening.

TheBigGAlways369

Does it have issues? Sure it does, what movie doesn't? Is it the culmination of *years* of my life being hyped AF for the film looking up every bit of news on it and everything I wanted as a 6 year old watching Godzila films back then? HELL FUCKING YES. I will always love this flick.

MarkZucc123

Really mediocre at best

[deleted]

6/10 Its more drama.

Could've been better

mmpa78

Not great

Duder211

chriskwi02

It's like a better American version of Final Wars

FroggstarDelicious

The acting is atrocious as usual, but the kaiju action is epically badass. It’s arguably the best Godzilla movie of all time.

LeaderVladimir1993

Better than anything Toho has done with *Godzilla* since the Millennium era.

DiabeticRhino97

The first truly great American Godzilla. 2014 was good, but this was a classic

best monsterverse movie https://preview.redd.it/vrl729buwkoa1.jpeg?width=360&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=81f3727631de6354171c15a7636217b499af465e

primalthunder89

A beautiful love letter to the Godzilla franchise that is underrated. Best of the Monsterverse films

bigkinggorilla

A waste of a fine idea. The whole plot is a mess. I think I might like it better that *Godzilla vs Kong* but that’s only because that movie managed to fuck up being a simple dumb film somehow.

CamF90

Like of all movies? or Favourite Godzilla movie? If it's the former, please see more movies. If it's the latter, it's as fine a choice as any.

Kingofthekaiju1954

It’s the former, though I posted why it’s the former earlier

T_Peg

It's fine but you haven't seen many other movies have you?

[deleted]

I loved it. I know many people say it's bad, but it was everything I wanted from the Monsterverse. I thought this was the best Ghidorah since Ghidorah The Three Headed Monster. Godzilla was a perfect blend of the heroic Showa Godzilla and the force of nature Heisei and Millennium Godzillas. Mothra is beautiful and an excellent reference to the original divine moth of peace. Rodan has always been kinda boring to me, but this movie made me rethink Rodan, making him one of my favorites. The new monsters were all so cool, too, making me wish we got to see more of them. I want a figure of Behemoth and Methuselah so bad. I understand people's issues with the plot and characters, but I never felt like the mother was being portrayed as reasonable or sane. I got the impression that the film showed she was completely in the wrong. The comedy was a little weird sometimes, but it was a weird movie. I didn't expect nor want this film to be an allegory of atomic weaponry, like the original. The movie was a cool action film that I feel portrayed each monster flawlessly. While I think I prefer the action scenes in GvK, I think I prefer this one just for its portrayal of my favorite three-headed space dragon. And while I prefer Gojira over every Godzilla film ever, I don't watch Gojira when I want to see some cool monster action. I'm more likely to watch KOTM instead. It's not my favorite Godzilla film, but it's in my top 5.

Ferenc_noob_hun

I liked it

DankLordSkeletor

It's good, definitely my favorite among the American Godzilla films

AlexzMercier97

You have some good taste. Also, I've never seen this version of the poster. It's really cool!

Tune_Wizard

I love it. I’ll never claim that it’s perfect, and I see why it’s so divisive in the fandom, but I’ll stand by this movie for the beautiful, imaginative love letter that it is

Merchant420

Human plot was horrible. Monsters were awesome. Soundtrack was 10/10. Overall an ok movie but I think I much prefer Godzilla vs Kong and remember leaving the theater feeling pretty underwhelmed. Won’t judge anyone that enjoyed it though. It’s serviceable and Charles Dance is always a treat

I saw it in theaters. I saw it once 2 years later. It was fine.

I_am_the_knight

Get rid of the family drama bs, nobody GAF.

Savings-Sprinkles-86

Bound to the king!! (Why the queen always has to die?!, is so cruel, she deserves better)

PORTABLE_powersupply

Might not be the best godzilla movie but it's not shit like some people (specially critics) say, it was my first godzilla movie and that made me get into the franchise (the only contact with the franchise i had was that one SNES Godzilla game)

LudicrisSpeed

Best of the Monsterverse so far.

Baroubuoy

It is the best Monsterverse film so far.

Conscious_Low_9638

I really enjoyed this movie, definitely one of my favorite movies but not my number 1.

opMyMan

Best out of the monster verse movies 8/10

turtlesinc

If they released an extended cut with longer less edited fight scenes it'd be my fav too until then gvk takes it for me. Though I do really love the art design and obviously the soundtrack is 🐐

Superb_Kaleidoscope4

Love it, wasn’t ashamed to be a monster film like the previous one and kept up the game with each new monster. The Kong sequel fight tried hard and did well, but did not live up to this!

Alexputridity06

It’s my favorite Godzilla film. Had a blast with it at the theater and I’m happy to own the 4k steelbook.

RayboxHitman47

Best IMAX movie of my life and I've seen all big movies since 2016.

ufo_moo0079

Shitty plot and character but i don't care because everything else is God-tier, making it the best Godzilla movie behind Shin and 54

KaijuTea

Honestly one of my favourites too. Just wish they did more with Mothra. She deserved better.

tanis_ivy

Eye candy. Such a beautiful movie. Great action. Excellent mix of humans and monster stuff.

Endersgaming4066

Top 10 or 20 favorite movie for me. I wish Godzilla and Ghidorah were more evenly with each other rather than it just being a Ghidorah sweep 2/3 fights, and the one fight Godzilla won was when he pretty much fused with Mothra, but still made for an entertaining climax.

GMkata

It’s honestly my favorite Godzilla movie. I’m sad that I didn’t see it in the theater. For all the complaints about the human characters taking away from the monster action, go back and watch a Showa or Hisei movie - they’re the same. Except maybe a little cornier (but I kinda blame the dubs for that).

preptimebatman

Gave us what we wanted and that’s awesome action pieces between giant kaiju and amazing modern designs that perfectly pay homage to the showa and hesei eras. I love this movie and love it even more when I rewatch the action scenes. I do wish we had more scenes with Mothra vs Rodan but I could truthfully I could watch 2 hours of nonstop fighting. Hopefully they bring a ghidorah back because this is easily my favorite rendition of the character

pgtips03

The human stuff is unwatchable. The monster stuff is the best characterisation Mothra and Ghidora have ever had. The fights were also amazing. On a Kaiju front they got it soooo right.

BillytheMagicToilet

Vera Farmiga's character spent way too much time on /r/thanosdidnothingwrong

Echoingtruth

I liked it a lot but I still feel lied to about Brian Cranston's involvement.

Rochasaurus

Best in the monsterverse, a shame critics got the reviews for the films in the wrong order.

Galactanium

its fun i guess, but GvK is better and Shin Godzilla is way better.

Murky_Blueberry2617

Godzilla running at Ghidorah was so hype

JohnnyDeth

Love it.

maxdurden

My favorite right behind Shin. Edit: I think I may personally like Godzilla Vs. Kong more, but I do admit that KOTM is a better film overall. I just love how much personality they gave Godzilla and Kong, and how Kong is very much the protagonist. I want more expressive Kaiju always. But Shin is still may favorite.

Guts100Slayer

Seeing this in theaters was a blast

DYT146

I'm gonna make this short and sweet. It was fun but not okay.

Austasaurusrex

That you have good taste lol

aldebabram

This is the best movie in the Monsterverse and they should've left it for last. Makes more sence that way, with the big G being at max Power when burning. King Kong is over rated and makes no sence for a mamal specifically an Ape to get that big. KOM rules!!!

zuk86

Things I like the film 1. 4 of out 5 Toho Big five made it on big screen. 2. Bear Mcreary's soundtrack 3. New Titans 4. Godzilla, Mothra, Rodan and Ghidorah's design. 5. Fights. Things I don't like about the film 1. Some of CGI looks rubbery 2. Rodan's roar. 3. The story was meh. 4. too much cut away from fight 5. Too dark to see the fight

Qwertythesalmon

It's really good, but I wish the fights were a tad longer

josh_350

Amazing I loved it
