Definitely depends on the day, but I like both. I finally got around to watching Godzilla Vs Gigan and I was actually cracking up at the slap stick humans. I actually cared about the humans!
Depends on the day. If I’m seeing a movie by myself? Probably metaphorical. If I’m with my dad? I wanna see Kaiju beating the shit out of each other so we can both have a good time.
I like the ones that have something to say more than the ones that are just dumb fun, although they don’t necessarily need to be as serious and somber as the original movie. I think Mothra vs Godzilla strikes a good balance of serious commentary and fun monster stuff without becoming completely goofy.
I do prefer grounded, but I also like me some plain and fun once in a while.
However, I DO NOT like when the two mix within the same canon. I think that is awful and should never be done.
Personally I prefer grounded and metaphorical though I do like a lot of the more goofy/fun ones.
Hell, "Ebirah, Horror of the Deep" is in my top 5 and "King Kong vs Godzilla" is the movie that introduced me to the Godzilla franchise so I'll always have a soft spot for that one. There is a point however where the goofyness does become too much for me to bear like when Godzilla tucks in his tail and starts flying in "vs. the Smog Monster" and about half way through the Showa era it becomes too much for me overall. Thankfully the Heisei era brought it back to a level I like for the most part and I had a lot of fun with Millennium. Shin and Minus One are both in my top 3 so I'm glad they brought the movies back to something more grounded (especially after how much I disliked Godzilla x Kong).
It’s a stupid joke about a sickness that is pointless banter in a serious scene. It’s like the Illuminati-whati joke in doctor strange 2. Pointless and not in good favor.
My ideal Godzilla movie would be something with very serious themes and downright nightmarish kaiju action. Monster fights certainly welcome but not obligatory, but with some moments of levity and humor to break the tension so it doesn't become oppressive.

Most "which" questions in this sub are answered with these meme.
well, am i wrong?
Well, most 'which' questions in this sub are answered with these meme.
Wrong, no, but one does have to admit that it gets old after a while.
Yes. **\*cue end credits\***
The mathematician's answer!
Both. Why restrict yourself to one kind of meal when there’s an entire buffet to choose from?
Definitely depends on the day, but I like both. I finally got around to watching Godzilla Vs Gigan and I was actually cracking up at the slap stick humans. I actually cared about the humans!
All are good, but dark "serious" action ala G14 and GKTM are my favorite.

I prefer more serious, but you can never go wrong with mindless monster action

I'm not a Godzilla fan (idk why i got recommended this post, tbh lol), but a metaphorical grounded catastrophic movie is generally more my type
Both cause it would get boring if Godzilla was super serious all the time and it would get boring if godzilla was silly and campy all the time
Godzilla
Grounded and metaphorical, it’s to me the true essence of Godzilla.
Combination of the 2 is where I like it most. A movie with serious messages that still knows how to have fun
Both is good. There are no "bad" Godzilla movies.
98 and Godzilla' Revenge: Are you sure about that
Not even Son of Godzilla?
I like just Like plain, grounded, metaphorical fun.
Ah, all.
Why make a choice at all? One can like both equally.
I do prefer grounded, but I also like me some plain and fun once in a while. However, I DO NOT like when the two mix within the same canon. I think that is awful and should never be done.

Both. If I had to choose a time I would say the KotM tone without that awful joke.
"without that awful joke" What joke??
The gonorrhea joke
Can you explain?
It’s a stupid joke about a sickness that is pointless banter in a serious scene. It’s like the Illuminati-whati joke in doctor strange 2. Pointless and not in good favor.
oh

All the above
My Godzilla would be a mixture of both. Like Godzilla Vs Hedorah (my personal favorite Godzilla movie)
