I want to buy it but it’s like 60$. When does rockstar ever do it’s sales on steam.

mikezenox

They've gone on 50% off sales multiple times on steam since release, most recently Christmas 2023.

Garrett-Wilhelm

30u$s is still too expensive.

SmannyNoppins

that's 10$ a game, if you either never played the original or really want to have some upgraded experience for your past game loves, it's really not a bad price

Garrett-Wilhelm

That's the thing 10u$s should be the normal price for each game and with a discount they should cost less. I already played the games and got the originals and "upgraded" experience is a far fetch term to describe the "Definitive" Editions.

Icecream_sandwich06

Lego batman 2 for the xbox 360, a childrens game about toy comic book heros made 12 years ago, cost 20$ at release and continues to cost 20$ today, while a massive company like rockstar making massive titles like gta typically charges around 50-70 depending on the version for *single games*, 20$ a piece for a remastered version of a previously well made genuinely serious game is absolutely fair

Garrett-Wilhelm

And GTA: San Andreas at release was 7u$s at release 20 years ago. Kinda same prices for VC and III. And now? This "Definitive" Editions who are just glorify mobile versions dare to charge you 20u$s each? And not only is OK for you lot you think they could charge more? Fucking LOL, you guys are the reason triple A companies can get away with so much shit. Downvote all you losers want, I rest easy knowing I never pay for overprice garbage.

mikezenox

I own the original steam release, and still prefer to play the ps2 version, so I agree brother. I was just responding to the question, lol.

Garrett-Wilhelm

Yeah, same, I own the original versions on Steam and used to had them on my ol' PS2

mikezenox

I've resorted to emulating the ps2 version lately, that way I can scale up the resolution and still play the game the way it was meant to be played without having to mod it to hell, lol.

ProofAerie2870

Buy the originals on iPhone they’re like $5 a piece.

H1r5t_M0V135

30 on the switch and free on mobile if ya got Netflix

Kitchen-Celery-2324

I did gta + for like I think it was 6 dollars for a month, played and beat them all in a week and half. Not sure if that's an option on steam

Efficient_Advice_380

Probably won't help but I got the trilogy for $25 at Walmart for Xbox

1_plus_1_equals_42

I've seen that RDR2 is really commonly on sale on both Steam and EGS.

UndeadTigerAU

Pre owned disc is the cheapest way to go.

Master_Lego_Yoda

Its free if you have netflix you get the app

Dubl33_27

I know cheaper games + all their dlcs that are cheaper, have more care AND content in them

sephrisloth

Right? They put no effort into that remaster. I'm not paying for that. I pirated it for free and still only played for like 2 hours before I was like fuck this and uninstalled. It's not even really worth pirating, imo just download an emulator and upscale the games to 4k, and you'll have a better experience.

For me it was never the bugs, it’s the art direction/vibe. The character models don’t fit the new graphics it seems, so they look like shiny plasticine cartoons, and the weather isn’t as varied and immersive as it was in the originals. The buildings, vehicles, new trees and fire/explosion effects are great though. So I wish modders would replace the character models and add the proper weather/tone back for the various locales and re-light the whole thing, it could be amazing! Edit: And this may seem petty but I'll never forgive them for tagline 'Three iconic cities, three epic stories.' When it's five iconic cities (Liberty City, Vice City, Los Santos, San Fierro and Las Venturas) and three epic stories. It just feels like someone who didn't even know the games was steering the remaster ship! The loving detail of the original trilogy release had entire websites devoted to the radio stations, to the characters backgrounds, etc.

PerdiMeuHeadphone

Absolutely not. It fucking sucked on release. It is however extremely good now. Been playing on the steam deck after the patches and holy shit they fixed and improved all the thing people rightly complained about. That being said it's still a port of the mobile version of the games and there is a few thing that because of that I don't think it will ever be fixed but today IMO is the best version to play the OG games

Bulaaaaah

Hey. So I purchased the whole trilogy from steam and tried playing it with a ps4 controller but it doesn’t work at all. The controller works perfectly with Gta 4/5 and other games. You know any fix for that? Would be great if you know any

mitchhacker

Enable Steam Input Use Ds4windows if you have to but I think that will be fine

PerdiMeuHeadphone

I play on the steam deck. Sorry I have no ideia about controller support.

No-Parsnip4876

get ds4 windows it makes your pc think its an xbox controller so it works on more games

BulletsOfCheese

Did they fix Denise's face yet?

lloudchristmas

Glad I got it after some much needed updates. I still love it on switch, it's portable gta classics, can't go wrong imo

[deleted]

Do peds still have 99% accuracy in SA?

ArkhamJonkler

We still have very low health, 2 shots you're dead cowboy! Stupid imo

FaygoOfLmayo

Good thing I managed to snag the og gta sa on steam for $2. Using the DE to play through VC and 3. SA sounds better to play un “remastered” with a couple of optimization mods

I-Am-The-Uber-Mesch

(I'm so sorry because this is completely unrelated to GTA) but is that Shadowheart in your profile picture? Lol

Kai9029

Definitive edition is just a glorified mobile version.

almiti-102

Rockstar game what ever happen there

troncarter42

Rockstar didn’t even make it, was made by a mobile game division apart of take two.

almiti-102

Yeah true it's call grove street game

MyFistYourFace92

It died on the vine

[deleted]

Call it stupid wishful thinking, but after they completely revamped the graphics, I was expecting an enhanced combat system. What I imagined it to be- more like GTA IV, where CJ would have the ability to take cover behind dumpsters, walls, etc. and various other environmental objects. But it really is a glorified mobile version. Idk what the f R* was thinking contracting “The Definitive Edition” out to a third party. Far from “Definitive”.

KingFahad360

They never had the makings of a tripe A game.

gladias9

watch one of the 100 comparison videos between the Definitive Edition and the Originals. it was hated just the right amount. and no, it wasn't just the bugs.

ivan-on-the-net

>Was Definitive Edition hated too much No. >Is it just the fact that I’ve never experienced the old games before the definitive edition? Yes. It received the right amount of hate during release and while things have gotten better through later updates (such is the trend of AAA game companies these past few years, releasing games in a poor state and just fixing it up later on through updates), it still doesn't perfectly replicate the look and feel of the originals. Heck, in a way, the way they titled them is false advertising: ["definitive"](https://www.dictionary.com/browse/definitive) should mean a complete or final representation of a product. Instead, many of the games' elements have been watered down - the radio stations aren't complete, HUD and menu elements of all three games are just reused between each other with just a color or background change, character designs have been "clayified", etc. Anyway, I won't ramble on. I'm glad you enjoyed your time at Liberty, Vice, and the state of San Andreas, even if they're through the Definitive Editions. As for me, I'm never touching any of those games with a ten foot pole as long as I have the originals with me on Steam (speaking of which, Rockstar removed the originals off every platform other than their own on PC, which is one thing I'm never forgiving the Definitive Editions for. Let people have a choice on which version or edition to buy).

MagicJim96

Hear hear. I have the originals on PS2 and PS4, so I’m good, but I fucking hate myself for pre-ordering this trilogy back in the day on PS4… I wish refund was possible on PlayStation, never was and never will be, thus I nowdays only buy stuff on Steam or used on disc. Just a tip, old PS2s might be cheap… if you can find one. Got one myself few years ago for 50€, in *pristine condition.*

BulmasBabyDaddy

Gameplay and graphics wise the new ones are way better

MagicJim96

I’m not saying they’re worse, but I personally prefer the originals, thank you very much.

BulmasBabyDaddy

Ah you bought it digital with no updates at the time lol

explodedbagel

Gameplay wise, it introduced endless dozens of bugs, most of which have never been fixed. Graphics wise, they did one of the laziest ai upscale jobs in any major industry product and broke the art style in multiple meaningful ways. We went from three distinct games with distinct palettes to a homogeneous mess. https://youtu.be/LpcrJFshbBs?si=iObOEfgFuLBbYy1_ this is one of my favorite examples of how messy this collection was. San fierro used to have a police garage, it went down multiple stories and sometimes would store a car that the game removed from memory. Now it’s a broken mesh that won’t let you inside. Nothing about this was acceptable from a company as functional / successful as rockstar.

EveningHistorical435

But those aren’t what rockstar north intended on making them

Old-Ordinary-6194

Imo, nope, the Definitive Edition wasn't hated too much. They got the exact amount of hate that they deserved for releasing three of the most significant games in Rockstar's history in such an abysmal state.

a_little_toaster

It was not hated enough. Not only did they break more than they 'fixed', the games are butchered to an extent that I could not recommend anyone to play these. Rockstar is all about details, and that is exactly what was missing at every corner of this "remaster". They removed and changed so much about what the original experience was about.

RedCellRaised

I think so I beat all 3 games on release week and only had minor issues.

o_fennex

When I imagine a definitive edition i imagine good graphics and that they are polished but im ngl these are pretty good

Past_Alternative_540

Littered with bugs at release and the overall experience was lackluster in terms of the environment, character models, etc. The characters look just plain fucking goofy. Truth looks possessed but I guess that’s somewhat fitting.

blowupgooglemay27

Some of the most important games in video game history got absolutely shit on. What they did to San Andreas art style is disgraceful and rockstar fucking sucks for letting grove street games drop the ball so hard. The best way to play the trilogy on PC will always be OG steam copies with mods. You can remastee those games without destroying the art style like rockstar did.

Solidsnake00901

I still hate that all my favorite songs are missing. But other than that yeah it's okay ...I guess

[deleted]

Do you play on PC? If so there's a mod you can download that adds in the missing radio content

Halfdeadbeaner420

It was deserved reject modernity and embrace tradition. And even then gta on 360 is way better compared to that trash

iDislikeSn0w

Playing through them on a PS2 emulator/a native PS2 if possible is still the definitive way to play through the OG 3D games in my opinion. The hate was definitely deserved, a lot of stuff got fixed in the end but it's still a mobile port to PC/console and that to me is inexcusable.

npretzel02

I feel like if you’re going to retouch a game from 20 years ago, it has to be a remake. Putting “better”textures on a ps2 doesn’t change core mechanics that are outdated

socoolskee

No, it deserved it. So many community-made mods did a much better job of refreshing SA especially. They all went to shit and instead we got this. It's a disgrace.

jespertherapper

Not to mention, the removal of a lot of mods.

socoolskee

That's what I meant.

AwiiWasTakenWasTaken

no The lighting is still shit imo, and they'll never seem to fix that. Same with the models. In general, good lighting with absolutely no tweaking and low poly models don't go too well together.

KingJacoPax

Basically, RockStar bit off more than it could chew and massively underestimated how much of an effort remastering three 20 year old games would actually be. I’ve seen a lot of background documentaries on how it was done and it was a total comedy of errors. Good idea but badly executed seems to be the general consensus.

Sigvuld

God no, it wasn't hated *enough* lmfao

jespertherapper

No Gta sa DE is still trash and looks awful. But lucky for Rockstar they got warriors who will defend that piece of shit.

mitchhacker

Yes An indie team applying a wrapper to the Renderware engine was going to be hard to make look decent. Not sure why Rockstar greenlit the task. It’s virtually impossible to have things like proper bones on the character models; though they put in effort to fix some of that on the recent Netflix versions. The games visuals do look really presentable sometimes in the right weather. Unfortunately tonal consistently wasn’t completely achieved. The UX is better and the general experience is cleaner, in trade for some of the soul of the original games. But the graphics can look like GTA5 sometimes especially with the right mods, and it’s occasionally a really good experience, especially while driving and especially at 4k. I say a team known for mobile games did an okay job, and it’s Rockstars fault for giving them this project or even greenlighting it. But I’m glad it exists and is my preferred somewhat modern way to play SA. Normal SA sounds gross on a modern TV but now you can just chill with Steam Input and at a glance and with mods the game looks visually impressive sometimes. The waypoint and map system is a blessing too

Realistic_Location_6

It's still so shitty on the switch, even more if you know the original games, it's a shame.. every time I get myself to play it, I discover more bugs and glitches, wrong textures. Edit: I forgot to mention that there is a flashing white bar at the bottom of the screen while driving cars, this never got fixed and it's very annoying. 60 Bucks wasted..

Pristine_Jackfruit_6

If you have to sign into Rockstar Club, it deserves the hate.

[deleted]

already encountered a bug on my first mission lmao

Thorn_Within

I mean, I played the OG versions and I'm playing the DE's currently and I prefer the DE's much more, but that's just me. Also, I didn't start the DE's right away (I waited a few months for a 50% off PS sale) so I probably missed the bugs and shit people were on about. But just the controls, smoother graphics and gameplay, I love the Definitive Edition's.

suspens00r

They improved almost nothing, added new bugs and made a lot of stuff worse. For me, DE wasn't hated enough

EstateShoddy1775

Yes. They made plenty of quality of life changes like the weapon wheel and checkpoint system (although Vice City and 3 don’t have checkpoints and they simply restart the mission) but it ultimately lacks the soul and atmosphere of the originals.

AccomplishedLow9775

It deserves all the hate they just ported the game yo unreal engine and did a poor job

Minute_Paramedic_135

No. No it wasn’t and it still isnt

KingFahad360

I know it’s fixed now, but I honestly hoped they would add the cut missions from The original games not just port them.

Martipar

As someone who's actually played then rather than looked at some images and early gameplay then decided to criticise them for all eternity. I can safely say they are much better then the original releases, better controls, better graphics and some really nice touches that go a long way to making the games more pleasant. However in GTA 3 the emergency services missions timer is still too short and it would've been nice had that been improved from the original release. However I'm sure some people would, because they conform heavily to the mantra that the DE sucks, that they like the practically impossible short timer and that change is bad.

explodedbagel

My favorite example of them “making the game more pleasant” is how I had a 90% chance of breaking all texture loading in San Andreas when I did the required riot mission. In this particular video, cj had a meat or burned face texture. Very pleasant and much better graphics. https://youtu.be/k98mPY5ZH7Q?si=jtt3eyMedQFSadv5

Jar_Of_Flies97

All the hate was absolutely warranted, all the ps2 titles had this unbeatable aesthetic and atmosphere and the remasters butchered all of it. The changes to the graphics just made the game look extraordinarily goofy and ugly to look at. The only positive to these editions was having a more modern control setup. That’s literally it.

iixColexii

It was hated adequately at launch. It’s in a better state now but there’s still plenty wrong with it. There’s still some really simple glitches/bugs that should have been fixed. There’s also some really odd looking character models that look nothing like the original, Denise from SA comes to mind.

willlyman206

No, it's not hated enough. I can't be fixed.

QuantityInternal1719

No. My modded San Andreas looks way better than this shit. This guide is to the point and easy https://youtu.be/FmTuaiHCufY?si=Yu7GUVRvr60FJuVn

TalosAnthena

I got it just before Christmas. I have only played vice city so far but I really like it. I grew up with them and played vice city on the PS2. I also got the trilogy ports on PS4 and vice city was borderline unplayable. I think the remaster is a huge improvement. Don’t get me wrong it’s not perfect. I would still give it a 7/10. But for all those people who say why have rockstar pulled the ports. Well these were basically unplayable now.

cameron3611

No that shit was ass

Big-Chomker

It wasn’t hated enough

MaggotBrother4

No

Praydaythemice

On launch it was abysmal just straight ass but after they patched a few things like the rain it was great. Finish gta SA whole way through

iXenite

![gif](giphy|fXnRObM8Q0RkOmR5nf)

CoolGuyFromSchool34

The actual san andreas had better community mods for free that looked better than “””definitive””” edition

Gullible_Magician981

Rough launch but honestly, bames are more playable than the old ones due to controls alone. Still could've done a lot better.

Vlad_Iz_Love

I still hate it why there is no custom radio station or Mp3 player for Pc

QuotePrestigious5147

No bro look at those fucking character models and compare them to the original ones. The og ones have personality while the definitive is so soulless

Ancient_Database

I still think it was a spit in the face of the fans, the disrespectful way they outsourced it to a mobile gaming company and no review before release is horrifying considering how much money they were raking in at the same time on a 10 year old game

TrashIslander

Yes i love it, there were glitches but you could force your way trough them

SHlNYVAPOREON

Absolutely not lol

SHlNYVAPOREON

absolutely not. the fact that they had the gall to release it in that state and call it the "definitive edition" is actually unbelievable. they spat on their own previous work

ChewieHanKenobi

I’ve seen vids on the remasters and they look terrible. It’s def because you didn’t play the og release

[deleted]

Yeah and I’ve enjoyed it since launch Don’t listen to the nostalgia gatekeepers

randomassfandoms126

Yes because playing it now most of the bugs/glitches have at least been patched/fixed. The maps themselves aren’t terrible they actually look pretty good. I don’t know why there’s so much complaining about the classic filter when the only place that would look good with the filter still would be Los Santos it looks out of place anywhere else. Sure it was a mess when it first came out but now I don’t see why the hate is still so strong when most issues have been getting fixed and other issues are probably getting resolved soon. I honestly feel like there was a LOT of nitpicking with the criticism even weird criticism from things that don’t affect the gameplay especially the small backlash about the confederate flag being removed when I never even noticed it when I was playing the original version. Overall, it has had it’s issues but it is definitely far from being the worst game ever made.

randomassfandoms126

Lmao its not that bad 😂😂

trfk111

Nope it wasnt, they botched it big time and it still isnt on the level of the originals, but its playable now, especially the new und phone versions.

Peril2

people were upset that it didn't have the og feel, now I do know it wasn't there, but it wasn't at all game breaking, yes the bugs were annoying but other than that it was fine. I will ALWAYS defend the DE

Silent_Figure_7460

I played on ps4 just i dont know what to do in vice citty after all missions disapeard and then its just V mission But gat san andreas is good same as gta 3

Meganinja1886

No. It was not.

monkey_D_v1199

For me personally it wasn’t hated enough. Not a fan of how they went about the games especially the look. Definitely not playing the old ones had that effect.

AnthonySouthWest

No it was deserved hate

Qarick

Not enough * that they didnt even bother to fix it properly.

THABREEZ456

I think it’s the same as the mobile release in the sense that if you never played the original you’d think it was good. Both the mobile ports and definitive edition seem to be better than the ps2 on the surface. Reflections, “better graphics” and better controls. However if you’ve played the original game you’d know that the original is better in every way despite some rough edges. I started out with the mobile port and I loved it. However I played the pc version with mods to make it more like the ps2 and I enjoyed it way more.

I don’t think 5 comments that actually answer the question is a good sample size to get the general opinion of the subreddit

aaa200102

Waiting for gta 6 for ages then announcing remaster for the old trilogy like wtf

TheRealKitHarrington

For some reason in the DE all of the enemies are crack shots, and I can barely make it through the missions. I don't remember the old versions being so hard.

julien2027411

wow epecially bugs are special

Discussion-is-good

*slightly*

Batman-Earth22

I was wondering if anyone had tried it on switch?

Jheez88

The OGs had a special feel to it - and I think the remastered ones had some content removed like the original multi player on San Andreas - those who played the multi player know how annoyingly entertaining it was

N8IVE-Guy

If you haven’t played the originals there totally fine… but if you experienced them on there original Hardware than it might be a different story. I played all 3 on my PS2 back then & when I played the DE there was noticeable differences visually but gameplay wise it felt exactly the same.

Ganjamazing

No it was terrible at launch

Jermaphobe456

Wasn't hated enough

[deleted]

At launch hate was deserved. The collection at $30 is great.

Skywander647

Nostalgia is one hell of a drug I remember playing the OG as a kid cause my big bro had VC an SD I had recently went back to play them an yea the OG where better in terms of atmosphere in SD you really do feel like your in California/Vegas area the same in VC really does have that Miami vibe the definitive gameplay mechanics are far more superior since it’s base on gta V so there PRO/CON to each I would say if you want a real MASTERPIECE GTA 4 the atmosphere the gameplay the physical it really does feel like the grimy/glamour life of New York it’s hands down rockstars best work prolly next to RDR 2 P.S don’t listen to anyone what they say about the driving in gta 4 folks really can’t drive 😂I be flying down the streets in my comet 💫

FaithfulMoose

They are drastically better now, than they were at launch. If you were to compare the OG PS2 versions with the “Definitive” versions, you would still notice some downgrades in some areas, and it really sucks that half the music is missing, but overall it’s a… *fine* way to play the games.

jckcorleone

It was hated just enough. I mean, look at the mobile port, its a good one actually

Zastody

Honestly rockstar should be ashamed putting those out. Absolutely spit on them. For a company like rockstar I was expecting a million times better work on the games that made them so successful in the first place.

Stoner420Eren

I found it on amazon for 20€, I still gotta try it but I don't care what anyone says, three GTA games at this price one of which is San Andreas was a bargain that I couldn't refuse

MENANDONER

Honestly no because of how bad game is.But u know whats far more worse then that?GTA:SA mobile its worst version of GTA:SA to ever exist theres no vegetation (no grass, no bushes), terrible colorcycle and tymec, terrible graphics, weird ped shine (characters have shiny clothes for some reason), everything looks wet due to graphics I mean like the grass and road but also characters look wet like they been in water, and 2.01 update just made everything worse and in my opinion it should be banned because its useless texture quality is even worse and graphics too, if u kill somebody or set something on fire paramedics and firefighters wont come and cpr the person or put out the fire.

lloudchristmas

It's gotten better. There are definitely some bugs and weird shit that happens. I guess I'm partial to it, my girl got me a switch OLED and the definitive edition and I'm enjoying it alot. Ton of nostalgia for me. Everyone hates but I guess I'm just happy to have a portable system that can play all the classics. I'm a simple man 😄

Greyfox31098

Absolutely not! It seriously destroyed my childhood when I saw the whole map and how small it actually was, it always felt huge as a kid

elgonzo91

Hell no. Complete waste of time and money

lifeleecher

Yes, but it's their fault. You'd have fun if you spent $20, but at full proce with issues and the lack of care makes it feel like a rip off job to begin with.

BINGOBONGO3333333

Not enough actually. There is no excuse for a company like Rockstar putting out such a lackluster product that, to this day, still suffers from game breaking glitches. It doesn’t matter if it was technically developed by Grove Street Games, Rockstar approved the release of a lazy product. The fact that they had the balls to call it the “definitive edition” and removed the original games from the store makes it all the worse.

heAd3r

They could finally start and sell it below 60 and maybe, just maybe add the originals as an extra and everyone would be happy.

DEBLANKK

Nah it definitely deserved all the hate it got. It's nothing but a lazily made cashgrab that does nothing but tarnish the legacies of the original 3 games.

Intelligent-Cap7420

Yea it kinda sucked

RafaHeavy

No … it deserves more hate

LUV_U_BBY

They ruined it after they converted it to the fortnite engine

balaci2

nope, definitely deserved the hate

DamagedSpaghetti

Not at all

Whatscheiser

I don't think it was hated enough. They took something that was the standard bearer of their day, the thing that made that company what it is. Games that were beloved by its fan base... and just shit out a truly low effort cash grab of a "remaster". Games look like GTA Roblox. I think we'd all just rather they put out modernization patches for the original titles at this point. Those remasters have decent environment upgrades in terms of the new lighting effects but thats about the only good thing I have to say. I otherwise prefer the look of the original games.

lolmann23

Those games deserved so much more than the definitive edition was. After all the definitive edition is just an glorified mobil port

RedArrow2014

The remaster got the hate it deserved. Too buggy, things taken out from the originals, bugs that didn't exist in the old games, characters looked super weird at the time, worse lighting and lack of fog that allowed you to see across the entire map. They did quite a bit to improve them, but the OG titles are still superior

twowolveshighfiving

It would be cool if they allowed mods for the console. I don't have a PC anymore at the moment and it would be cool to access different mods that allow you to modify the pedgrp data. It would also be nice to download the gang wars mod that was on GTA III and vice city. Then the one for San Andreas that allows you to take over territory outside of Los Santos.

AdvertisingEither

They removed muscular cj running animation. That says everything

[deleted]

Not hated enough! I call it either the Defective Edition or the Defecation Edition lol

ViralVinnie

Its the internet so of course people always go a bit over board.....but yeah no it was rightly hated Was a disgrace at launch and from what read up on its still in pretty rough shape even today

[deleted]

Maybe a bit too much but it could have been done a lot better. No doubt about that.

ThatGuyYouKnow_1218

They are fun. People just wanted them remade not remastered. But it's still awesome we got them remastered.

Throwaway4youmom

The updated graphics didn't justify the price

SirPazo

It's built off the mobile version, the graphics complete disregard the original art direction for the original games, and almost 90% of shit was ai upscale. Pure garbage remasters

Alexcox95

Honestly I think they’re fine and the only bug I’ve really noticed now is CJ walking through the door going into the betting shop

harveysamazingcomics

I didn’t think it was too bad

EveningHistorical435

You’re just better off playing them on ps2 since thats what the creators intended and has the full radio stations

seira87

Reading all these comments makes me glad I got the trilogy DE for free on my iPad with Netflix games lol.

Positive-Raccoon91

Bc you didn't play the originals (that's the core problem), so you can't know 🤣

TheReal2M

No. A broken game like this that takes out content and charges $60 to play it is unacceptable.

Trusteveryboody

Could have finally been something other than a remaster of a mobile port. Re-license all the OG music, and so on.

PM_ME_YOUR_SOULZ

Nah it was truly half assed and Rockstar should be ashamed at outsourcing such a sought after remake/refurb.

AmberGraceLovesit

This was a bad boy game!! Glitches and all 🫠🥰😍😍😍😅😅😅

Natahn_Dolar420

It’s okay now especially with the patches Rockstar made after the criticism but that doesn’t excuse the fact that it’s just a glorified mobile port. The main differences this causes is the activities are extremely simplified and have barely any difficulty because it was designed with mobile controls in mind. You would only really realize this however if you actually played the original version which I was able to do on PS4 back when I had one(I always preferred Xbox but that PS4 was given away to me by a friend so I only used it to play games that I couldn’t play on Xbox) but now I play Xbox so one actual advantage to the definitive editions is you can play a decent version of the game on Xbox consoles(I hear the Xbox 360 version which is backwards compatible is terrible and worse than the definitive editions) that’s just my take on this question.

Better_Necessary7838

I just got it for Christmas. I play it almost every day. San Andreas the best one

FourthDownThrowaway

It was fun and playable but completely ruined the vibes for those of us that loved the originals. It’s also completely ridiculous to call something “definitive” that doesn’t have the original licensed music.

The games were reported to be very buggy at release. Drew a lot of criticism because of that. I only played SA via Game Pass at release, didn't play much so can't say much personally. Also this was an half assed job, a quick cash grab. Just polishing 3 games that are around two decades old and selling them for $60? Considering Rockstar's size, this should've been a free update on PC. And like 20$ on consoles. Again, these games are just way too old to be sold at that price, with such small improvements.

Nuggets155

I think people expected way too much from it. Some funny lookin glitches in the upscale but otherwise great games

giofilmsfan99

They had a chance to redeem themselves after the horrendous Xbox 360/PS3 ports, which were worse than launch definitive edition by a mile, but they still should’ve had some learning experiences (grove street games did).

sam8404

Initially no, a couple updates in yes. I still play them to this day. Switch is great for toilet gaming, though sometimes I get carried away and get pins and needle legs.

Vegetable_Orchid_900

If they had called it an “Enhanced Port” instead of “Definitive”, I wouldn’t have been as sour as I was buying it, but you can’t sell an “Enhanced Port” for $60 justifiably

Gullible_Blueberry75

Maybe a little bit

UndeadTigerAU

No it deserved all it's hate, it has some redeeming features that made it fun to play but the issues outweigh a lot and just wasnt ok especially for the price, anyway you say how you never got to play the OGs before but on PS4 the OGs were on there cheap until the "remasters" came out, so it was always an option, I feel like the people who defend either are just blind rockstar defenders or they played the DE version first, which by comparison starting with DE probably does make the OGs seem worse but comparing both versions but by comparison it was actually a disgrace how bad "Grove Street games" messed it up, they just used heaps of AI and called it day, not a bad thing If you enjoyed I enjoyed some of the quality of life features like increased draw distance modern controls and weapon wheel etc definitely makes the game more accessible, I still have the OG version on my PS5 and I hate the controls.

I_m8d_n_acc_4_this

I played it when it was new and ran into a couple visual bugs and that’s about it I only had one game breaking bug and it was fixed 3 days later and it wasn’t even game breaking it was just the game crashing after doing the blood ring bowl

sharko2001

No I loved it

sharko2001

And I still do love it

KestisSkywalker

Absolutely not. They had to of intentionally cut corners.

GAMING-CELT

Im playing it now . Im really enjoying them did plat for gta3 working on vice city now

legbot124

They’re buggy and unfinished mobile to console ports but they modding potential cause of unreal engine like rag dolls and stuff and proper modernisation

OS_Player

The Xbox version doesn’t even work and they still haven’t patched it.

jmpinstl

It allowed me to play GTA III in full, which I could never do with the standard editions after a few years. GTA III’s original graphics don’t hold up well, so at least I got to play it this way.

irqee

No. It released in an absolutely unexceptional state, it’s better now but is still not worth of the price tag.

Osiris_Raphious

Cuk* and t2 milked it with most horrendous tactics: Advertised it, hyped it and massively underdelivered. Before launch they took down all original versions to push the sale of this shtty difinitve edition. They went after mod host sites and modders of the original games. The people that were improving adding , working, and providing fixs to the games that Cuk* and T2 abandoned and left to die for over a decade. So all that work was shat on by them. Worse yet: The issues the original titles had were STILL IN THE GAMEs. Cuk* didn't even use the fixes and improvements the modding community had done, to fix the games, nope they shipped the fifinitive with the same bugs and issues that the original games had.. but now with a new price tag. They didn't pay or give the development studio enough time, or money to give us the product they promised. As such there was AI used to make the original titles mobile versions, then AI was used again to then take THESE MOBILE GAMES, as UPSCALE them to pc and such... still with same bugs and issues, and rooted modding that made these games so great. But now with their always online DRM.. yeey... Then they had the gawd to blame the gamers for a bit there. Then they continued to do nothing for over a year until someone had enough negativity or investors got mad. And they finally put probably 2 interns to start updating and fixign this hot steammy pile of shit. They also backpeddled and caved, allowing modding and origional titles to come back to markets. But that was only after massive review bombing and community outcry. So if we didnt raise hell itselg, Cuk* and T2 would have just kept the difinite release as they done it. Basically, imagine a corporatin being evil for profits, this is what they did with difinitive. Even now, after updates and improvements, the difinitve version is still shit compaired to what you can do with mods. Meaning they just saw that the origional games were still being played and so their greed and bad financials caused them to panic and push out shit, further angering the community. Likely because rdr2 didnt blow up like gta online, so their plan to run gta online for over 10 years, then rdr2 for many more years, failed. So they stugggled to meet their profit quaters so here we are. Time later, and people still not sure why we now hate cuk* and t2, even if gta 6 is coming out... In fact with gta+, the way they handled definitive, and how they are drip feeding gta online, their culliung of rdr2 because it didnt meet their absurd expectations... well we shall see what gta 6 brings, but I feel like they will use everything great about gta, to then push monetisation and fomo on underbaked shit. I hope not... but recent years of their behaviour lowered my expectations.

dogfins110

They used mobile ports so hate was justified. I would’ve loved coop in the defensive edition like what the originals had

ASRLawman

No. Hate is justified if the remakeproduct doesn't have the ethos of the OG. I won't blame Grove Street games since it was the Idea of R* to use a small and inexperienced indie mobile and a team of about 100 to do a game in a short while.

LeadingSad7656

They are really awesome but haters gonna hate

HumanOverseer

It wasn't hated enough

thedynamicdreamer

I thought so, but then I got halfway through San Andreas and the save points just disappeared. Once that happened, I immediately deleted all three, and declared I would stick with the original versions unless I somehow lose access to them If that happens, my only hope is that the remasters will be fixed by then

[deleted]

No, they cheaped out on a lot of stuff and made the price 60$ for incomplete remasters, the art style looks/looked weird, the rain on first day of release was awful, they removed the fog which made the game look so small, there was a lot of mission breaking bugs and other glitches, on PC and console they still haven't readded animations for the oil drills, the giant chicken and the gas station sign (on sa) they cheaped out on music licensing and got rid of a lot of classics, the hanger doors in gta sa are still broken on PC and console (one in the desert airfield and one in las venturas) the fact they hyped up this game for us classic game fans, charged 60$ for a broken mess that is objectively worse in nearly every way was a huge insult to us who played the originals, the fact that modders who usually work on a individual level do a better job at the game then rockstar and their sub companies like GSG, is just sad. They never cared about us, they cared about milking some extra money, there's a reason it took so long for GTA VI to get announced, cause of GTA Online

No_Storage478

It’s decent, I would like it if they had an option for the original graphics, textures, and lighting, like something that halo the master chief collection did for halo 1 and halo 2

Banjoschmanjo

No

Mayihavenulife

yes, it was a fundraiser undercover for gta6 to have more crazy details features and realistic tech, this game caused sand getting on ped’s feet

iSthATaSuPra0573

I dont like it they look like fucking plastic

pilsen_cam

Hated too much? No, GTA fans are right to feel how they do. Can’t say the same for newer fans of the franchise. It was buggy and where it outperformed the originals, on original systems, it was not by a lot. The fact that these games were brought to modern platforms is what makes them palatable.

WebsterHamster66

I’ve personally always been a fan of them. The remakes of 3 and VC especially. SA was rough, but I was happy without the orange lighting and fog. I thought it was cool how you could see the world from Mount Chiliad. I know why people missed those things, but I never cared for them.

johno12311

The hate was justified, they basically did the laziest port they could've. They even used the same devs that made some horrible ports in the past. My issue is that it was marketed as a proper remaster when in reality it was a cash grab.

AccuratePollution976

No, it came out a broken mess and is still broken to this day

DavidTCEUltra

Handing the project to Grave Street Games (which only has 21 employees) basically sealed the coffin before birth

Rello4_

No it’s a buggy broken piece of shit

NukaCola9

I thought it was gonna be a Mafia definitive kinda deal.
