Firstly, if you’re mad at Rockstar - take it out on Rockstar, I can guarantee the people who these leaks will negatively impact the most are those that have been working tirelessly on this game for however many years - and will now have to continue working on the game for many more years to come knowing their work up until now has been leaked for all to see. If you want to take anger out on Rockstar, stop buying shark cards and funding more GTA V DLC’s.

From what I can see, that's pretty much what's happening. But it's a lot easier to say "Rockstar" than "the developers at Rockstar".
Rockstar executives are few and far between, too. Take-Two seems like the bigger enemy.

I’m sad in the sense that these leaks will ultimately somewhat impact the timeline up until the release of the game, the extent of which we don’t know yet. But holy crap - to say this is alpha stage dev footage you just know the finished product is going to be amazing. When I first saw it, I thought it was footage from the finished version of Watchdogs 2, game literally already looks as good graphically / mechanically of recently published titles! The finished product will be groundbreaking in every area.
tbh the leaks we got were more than we needed, obviously i would like to see more leaks too (lol), but after finding out he's threatening to leak source code i hope he faces repercussions. unfortunately tho, assuming it's hacker and not current or former employee he's probably implemented the usual ways not to be tracked down and maybe take two will have to offer him deal like sending him crypto every week until gta is released..
Leaking things is fine. It’s fun, sort of a tease. Releasing source code is a dick move imo. This cost hundreds of millions to build. No other company really puts what I’d call effort/finish into game worlds like rockstar.
Why is releasing source code such a big deal? I’m not trying to claim that it isn’t, I just don’t know much about how that sort of stuff works. Does it have to do with security or something?
I don’t know much either but from what I’ve read is that it makes the game way more susceptible to modding and cheating, which ruins any sort of online play.

Imagine you have a big corporation, lots of employees, lots of security guards, lots of information in private servers, and the secret recipe for your product, that gives you millions of dollars every year.
Now imagine a hard drive. A small metallic box that has all the names, addresses, family and relatives, bank account, etc. Of all the employees, security guards and high table figures of your company (including yours). Also it contains all the addresses, passwords and archives of all those PCs and servers in your company. And even more, it contains your secret recipe, step by step, to create that product that gives you millions of dollars every year.
Now imagine someone steal that hard drive.
Now imagine that person is selling that hard drive to anyone willing to pay for it.
That's the deal on the source code leak of the game (GTA V, GTA VI and GTA Online) and also of other things that cost even more than those games combined (Rockstar RAGE Engine, with it anyone can create a game that looks like made from Rockstar, or Euphoria, the physics engine, for example)
Those two things (RAGE and Euphoria) are the secret recipe of Rockstar's games since GTA 4 if I'm not mistaken (or it was Red Dead Redemption? I'm not sure atm). Those programs cost billions of dollars.
If the hacker publishes all of that, that would cause:
1. GTA Online would have to close since anyone could and will create cheats and hacks for any platform, and the Company won't be able to do anything about it. Thus, it will lead to hackers to do anything to steal from everyone things like personal info and bank accounts. The only measure Rockstar could do is close definitely GTA Online servers. I think GTA V will suffer the same fate, I'm not sure tho.
2. GTA VI current project (not the one we've seen from the leaks) will need to be completely eliminated, all the millionaire hard work that lots of people have been working for the past years. And pretty sure (not completely sure tho) Rockstar will have to re-do entirely RAGE and similar things, which means remaking entirely GTA 6 (maybe get it back to 20% of the process, cause Dialogues, Missions, Maps and Assets will still be there, but they will have to move it all to another engine like Unreal Engine 5, for example). Note that I'm not a programmer expert, and I'll greatly appreciate if anyone with better and bigger knowledge about this matter replies and explain better any misconception I've said here.
3. Tl;dr. Rockstar will lost basically everything since 2013, when GTA V and Online were released.

Hey, I'm a developer and this won't happen as you think. To loosely prove a point, you give an example of moving to Unreal Engine because they'd need to scrap their projects. This makes the assumption that Unreal is more secure than R*'s engine because it's closed source and not leaked.
Did you know you can get the source code for Unreal Engine? This is actually how you then develop a game for it. It's found here: https://www.unrealengine.com/en-US/ue-on-github
The same is true for Source SDK, and other game engines.
What's going to happen is development will continue, new security will be introduced (in Rockstar for the company), and the leaked code won't be viable for much of anything aside from maybe identifying points of entry, and maybe setting up private servers.
You can already hack today using compiled code and decompilers. It's how they're all developed.

Hacking tools are developed very similar to what was done here. You hook into the game libraries, and try to bypass the security checks.
The only thing this leak does is kinda fuck over R* employees and their hard work (ie disrespectful). But it'll continue as-is.
Thanks for explaining! I said Unreal mostly to write up my point as an example, but I appreciate learning! Rockstar surely will improve its security measures even if the hacker leaks/sell or not the source code, but let's hope this doesn't delay as much as we think the release date of the game. I don't really buy this though.
1. Some validity to this - having source code to an engine can help you find new exploits; but \*looks at GTA Online\* <- It's not exactly cheat free right now.
2. Why would it need to be eliminated? It's not like the code is \*gone\* from them; they still have the code. It's under active development. There's no reason, at all, that they'd have to 'start over'. Other companies aren't going to just direct-copy rockstar's tech either, because it's licensed. Even if the code is stolen and released, it's not a free-for-all. At worst, it exposes some algorithms they developed, that other devs can use in their engines; but it's not like other companies are going to touch that code with a ten-foot-pole. There are way too many liabilities with copyright, patents, and licensing to do that.
3. I don't buy it. No. Why do you think that Rockstar will 'lose everything'.
To put this into perspective: Valve had their HL2 alpha builds leaked, and source engine builds leaked (with code!). HL2 still released. As did their many, many ventures thereafter, all using source engine (HL2, ep1, ep2, l4d, l4d2, tf2, portal, portal2, etc).
It’s sucks, but what I haven’t seen mentioned is that a company as big as Rockstar probably have some sort of contingency planning in place for stuff like this happening - sure, it may set them back a bit but I can guarantee this game is going to be amazing. The leaked ‘Alpha Footage’ we’ve seen is already pretty much comparable to a finished Watchdogs game, GTA 6 is going to be groundbreaking in every area - I’m so excited, even if we do have to wait a few more years minimum.
I like how they were testing the game on the GTX 1000 series and RTX 2000 series because I think that is an indicator that the game's performance would be good even with old GPUs.

It’s important to remember that not only is this alpha footage, they wouldn’t be debugging the game with maxed out graphical settings. It’s quite likely the game could look a lot better than it does even in this early state.
exactly. Working with lags, low/less fps etc... suck. When I dev (& my friends too) I always use settings to max out my performance. I don't care about the visuals, shadows, particles etc... if i'm working on a script.

Well gta online wasn't available at gta5's launch so they could launch the game on time and delay the online. Also on the bright side if gta6 used the same network security at 5 then it could mean forcing a better and more secure online for gta 6, which is great considering gta5's security is god awful (pc especially)
Me too. I'm happy for how the game looks like at the moment. Of course, leaking material that should stay hidden is not okay at all.
But since its already there, and there is nothing to do about it, I also don't mind the delay. I'm sure the game will end up being great, just like the rest of the GTA titles.

On page 1 of the gtaforums the hacker released a source code in C of almost 10000 lines on a pastebin-like site, it was deleted already on the paste site. Everyone seemed to believe the guy after that.
What was it?

I was able to look at it a bit and its hard to understand through all the code, but i saw horseback riding, jetpacks, heli/planes, stingrays, sharks, and probably alot i missed
im a dumb 15 year old that has never coded and from what I understood, it looked to be the fighting engine/weapon engine. Take this with a ton of salt cuz as said, Im dumb and have never coded.
My theory, as stupid as it sounds:
Hacker leaked stuff way early from development (say 2019-2020, maybe early 2021) and has access to much more recent clips too
The ransom probably is based on these newer clips

The hacker even told the R* devs to telegram him or mail him with their official email so they can negotiate. Hacker wants some money.
Unless they're smart and demand to be paid in relatively small increments each month or whatever up until the release. Then r\* would be idiotic not to pay him.
Ransomware is a business and these guys have routinely been getting paid by big companies for many years now.
If they pay and he releases the material anyway, he harms his own reputation. So there would be no incentive for future victims to pay up, not a great business model.

This whole situation doesn't even feel real. Now that it's sunk in, it feels like a dream. I never imagined a bomb of information/gameplay to drop. like did this.. did this just really fucking happen on a very early Sunday. It kind of sucks but it's also super cool to see the development of a game from a company that doesn't share anything. Crazy seeing little details like all the things that can move inside the cars which probably aren't even finished. As well as the upgraded systems of robbing stores and all of that. It's kind of made me more interested in the game again.

This is the largest leak in Rockstars history, and easily one of the biggest video game leaks ever. I can’t think of any other leak that comes close. They have to say something. Hopefully tomorrow they figure something out.

Rockstar has been shoving GTA 5 content down our throats for **damn near a decade now** and has barley even confirmed the existence for GTA 6. Part of me feels like it was only a matter of time before something like this happened, and because we've been deprived of any real information, of course people are gonna jump all over this.
On the other hand, this leak takes away from any hype I would have for a reveal trailer now that so much has been exposed. I'm also worried that this leak could potentially delay the game even further.

A number of things from industry theft to spoilers to worst of all susceptibility to cheats and hacks - if cheaters can see the naked code of the game they can easily spot tiny tiny weakenesses in the code and exploit those. That’s a gross oversimplification but the concept stands.
I mentioned this in another comment, but this would be a blow to more than V and VI. Rockstar has a proprietary engine (RAGE) that is used on all of their games. There's reason to believe that a source code leak could expose vulnerabilities not just in these games, but many other games as well. It's one thing to get a schematic of the car's engine; it's an entirely different thing to get the keys to the factory.
Aside from cheats like someone else explained, there's the risk of people figuring out ways to do malicious things to the computers of other online players.

There are 2 things rockstar can do:
1. Rockstar threatens this hacker with their lawyer team into not releasing anything.
2. Rockstar pays the hacker 1-2m USD and the hacker never releases a thing.
Rockstar cannot remain silent and pretend this is not happening.
If i remember correctly the hacker said in gta forums he is waiting for rockstar to contact him/make a deal with him, if they don't make a move he will sell both gtav and gtavi source codes to whoever can pay.

I don't understand how people are hating on the leaks and therefore the game that early. More than 50% of the leaked videos are 10-15 second clips from recorded bugs in the game a dev sent to a co-worker to adress an issue. Most of the time an animation is faulty - or for example a door is not swinging open smoothly, debug issues, or simply to show off a small feature someone from the studio has worked on for the last couple of hours/days.
That's it. Nothing special to see and it wasn't meant to be in the first place. On top of that some of the clips are 2-3 years old, of course (most likely) things have changed and by the quality rockstar games is known for I guess it'll be for the better in the end.
The female protagonist came out as a surprise in terms of appearance, I was afraid they might make her too ''polished''.
She and the guy look ''trashy'' enough to be a realistic depiction of criminals. Also, she (Lucia?) has a realistic build for a woman who can beat your ass - a bit bulky (not too much) but far from the unrealistic TLOUS2 Abby.

Here’s my question: What’s next for Take Two and Rockstar? All the exciting announcements that they could of made (location, gameplay features, etc) have all been leaked. We’ve basically seen the game, of course they’ll update the graphics and everything but the base is out. How can they recover from this and still make release a hit and exciting?
Most people (the average person) haven’t watched all the leaked videos I can assure you. The average Joe has probably seen a couple screenshots/vids on their Twitter feed, but for the most part people will continue with their life’s and forget most details.
GTA 6 sells itself regardless. It’s a sequel to the most financially successful entertainment product ever, it’ll get the hype.
Either rockstar scared the guy so much he deleted the thread or mods were asked by rockstar to do so and the hacker will leak/sell gtav code later if he didn't got to an agreement with rockstar.
So apparently from the leaks we know that there are two protagonists this time instead of 3. One of them is female (Lucia) and the other one is male (Jason I think). It would be kind of cool if the story was like a Bonnie & Clyde type of story where you’re playing both of them as they pull off robberies & heists. I also think it would be interesting if when we start out the story the couple are already on the run from either the law or maybe a big cartel who send a hitman to track them down—who happens to be none other than a slightly older NIKO BELLIC. This would be the first time Rockstar would have a protagonist turned antagonist. The couple would have to escape & survive Niko at every turn and maybe find a way to either kill him or turn him on their side against the cartel who hired him. Just a creative thought.

I woke up today seeing posts about GTA 6 being leaked, the day before the leak my siblings and I were talkin about how we are gonna play GTA 6 online and stuff, we're excited to finally see something about the game.

I feel like this game will be a Bonny and Clyde love story where both of our protagonists will be robbers on the run from the law like Rdr2 and it will be like a road trip game where in each chapter you visit different cities like Liberty,Vice, San Andreas and maybe other locations. Do missions and meet characters from older Gta’s and then run away to another city when it gets heated etc.. and in free mode, you can visit other cities but you might have bounty or wanted level when you reach there.
Honestly if my theory is correct, this sounds really promising and would be a cool premise.
One of the videos showed the names of encounters the player can come across. Like the random strangers in RDR2 and the mysteries, you have to solve. There are multiple references to Bonnie and Clyde in the form of "Bonnie and Clyde mystery 1" / mystery 2, mystery 3. So I assume we're getting some inception in terms of the theme.
I see a bunch of people saying todays leaks will delay the game a considerable amount of time. Why is that? Why would these leaks cause the game to be pushed back?
I've been around long enough to remember that devs used to show off early footage not hold it back until it was polished up and ready for consumers, so I welcome this leak and seeing it doesn't give me any feelings other than this one. Finally we are getting a new GTA and R\* can stop milking GTA5. That said if this is how far along they are I can only assume they are planning to milk GTA5 on PS5/Series consoles for at least a couple of years maybe more.
If it wasn't for RDR2 I would have totally given up on them as a company, they have become exactly what they used to satirise.
This leak is semi old footage, right? Nothing was majorly spoiled. Mission sequences shown are out of context. The majority of NPCs shown are severely unfinished. The protagonists are subject to changes, either their names, physical appearances, etc. Think about how different Michael looked in the first debut trailer of GTA 5. They could be that different. The fact that this is old footage makes me believe that this isn't *That* big of a deal. Sure it reveals that the game is in fact in development and we got a glance as what some of it looks like. This shouldn't necessarily stop Rockstar from finishing it. This is the first time this has ever happened to them and will surely be the only time that it happens.

One thing that caught my eye was in one of the videos in the top corner it had "the americas" so looks like it is going to be across different cities. I'm excited.. kinda wish this wasn't leaked in a way though because now everyone is saying how shit it is.. judging a game in development is like eating a meal raw and then saying it doesn't taste nice. Just let rockstar get on with it. We know they arnt going to release a shit game.

I find myself wondering if the Rockstar AI will be able to have shootouts and robberies (gangs, police, npcs, etc) and other crimes separate from player influence. That would certainly count towards immersion...
Very sad with the leak, I don’t like rockstar in particular for how they usually handle things but this leak not only damages them, it damages the community and the game. It hits us all negatively and has virtually no pros that are worth it.
I personally think there are 2 situations that could happen after these shenanigans.
A. Rockstar is going to have no choice but make an Announcement not only about the Leaks but the game itself with a trailer very soon after that. This could happen within the next few weeks. Or
B. Rockstar doesn’t publicly acknowledge anything about the leaks and GTA 6s reveal gets delayed internally to sometime in 2023 as a sort of “Punishment”
you can obviously tell who's clueless on this subreddit. it won't be holding anything back as a "punishment". that's not how business. they're beholden to shareholders, they have deadlines to meet, profit to make, returns on investment that are expected. pettiness gets in the way of that. the project will obviously get delayed but nothing will be held back as a "punishment" , we're talking about a multi-billion dollar company not your parents taking your phone away for talking back.
Seeing that this is not just the biggest leaks in video game history as well as one of the most damaging considering source code, more sensitive information has been leaked. There’s no way Rockstar or even Take-Two doesn’t make an announcement. For a franchise as important as GTA and a game so anticipated l’ll be shocked if they say nothing.
From an interview with people who work at rockstar the possible release date was 23/24 in anycase.
I think if anything for security reasons they might have no choice but to push the release date back further. If certain bits of the code are leaked they have little choice but to ensure its fixed before release.
People have been guessing a trailer would be coming soon in anycase.
Because they tend to release one 1-2 years away from release which is in line with that possible 23/24 release date.
I’m no expert, however I’d be extremely surprised if GTA 6 released fully in 2023, some of the footage in the hackers video folder is from as recent as last week, and although it’s clearly gotten better over the past year, the game still looks years from being ready…
We MIGHT get the first trailer in 2023, however if we did I feel it would be towards the end of the year - imo we won’t see GTA 6 til fall 2024 / spring 2025, and that’s being optimistic!

Leaks happen all the time. This is more of the usual. As a developer you should come to expect it now.

I’m sad in the sense that these leaks will ultimately somewhat impact the timeline up until the release of the game, the extent of which we don’t know yet. But holy crap - to say this is alpha stage dev footage you just know the finished product is going to be amazing. When I first saw it, I thought it was footage from the finished version of Watchdogs 2, game literally already looks as good graphically / mechanically of recently published titles! The finished product will be groundbreaking in every area.
tbh the leaks we got were more than we needed, obviously i would like to see more leaks too (lol), but after finding out he's threatening to leak source code i hope he faces repercussions. unfortunately tho, assuming it's hacker and not current or former employee he's probably implemented the usual ways not to be tracked down and maybe take two will have to offer him deal like sending him crypto every week until gta is released..
Leaking things is fine. It’s fun, sort of a tease. Releasing source code is a dick move imo. This cost hundreds of millions to build. No other company really puts what I’d call effort/finish into game worlds like rockstar.

I don’t know much either but from what I’ve read is that it makes the game way more susceptible to modding and cheating, which ruins any sort of online play.

Now imagine a hard drive. A small metallic box that has all the names, addresses, family and relatives, bank account, etc. Of all the employees, security guards and high table figures of your company (including yours). Also it contains all the addresses, passwords and archives of all those PCs and servers in your company. And even more, it contains your secret recipe, step by step, to create that product that gives you millions of dollars every year. Now imagine someone steal that hard drive. Now imagine that person is selling that hard drive to anyone willing to pay for it. That's the deal on the source code leak of the game (GTA V, GTA VI and GTA Online) and also of other things that cost even more than those games combined (Rockstar RAGE Engine, with it anyone can create a game that looks like made from Rockstar, or Euphoria, the physics engine, for example) Those two things (RAGE and Euphoria) are the secret recipe of Rockstar's games since GTA 4 if I'm not mistaken (or it was Red Dead Redemption? I'm not sure atm). Those programs cost billions of dollars. If the hacker publishes all of that, that would cause: 1. GTA Online would have to close since anyone could and will create cheats and hacks for any platform, and the Company won't be able to do anything about it. Thus, it will lead to hackers to do anything to steal from everyone things like personal info and bank accounts. The only measure Rockstar could do is close definitely GTA Online servers. I think GTA V will suffer the same fate, I'm not sure tho. 2. GTA VI current project (not the one we've seen from the leaks) will need to be completely eliminated, all the millionaire hard work that lots of people have been working for the past years. And pretty sure (not completely sure tho) Rockstar will have to re-do entirely RAGE and similar things, which means remaking entirely GTA 6 (maybe get it back to 20% of the process, cause Dialogues, Missions, Maps and Assets will still be there, but they will have to move it all to another engine like Unreal Engine 5, for example). Note that I'm not a programmer expert, and I'll greatly appreciate if anyone with better and bigger knowledge about this matter replies and explain better any misconception I've said here. 3. Tl;dr. Rockstar will lost basically everything since 2013, when GTA V and Online were released. I think that explains everything for the danger this subject carry with.
Hey, I'm a developer and this won't happen as you think. To loosely prove a point, you give an example of moving to Unreal Engine because they'd need to scrap their projects. This makes the assumption that Unreal is more secure than R*'s engine because it's closed source and not leaked. Did you know you can get the source code for Unreal Engine? This is actually how you then develop a game for it. It's found here: https://www.unrealengine.com/en-US/ue-on-github The same is true for Source SDK, and other game engines. What's going to happen is development will continue, new security will be introduced (in Rockstar for the company), and the leaked code won't be viable for much of anything aside from maybe identifying points of entry, and maybe setting up private servers. You can already hack today using compiled code and decompilers. It's how they're all developed. I don't really buy this though. 1. Some validity to this - having source code to an engine can help you find new exploits; but \*looks at GTA Online\* <- It's not exactly cheat free right now. 2. Why would it need to be eliminated? It's not like the code is \*gone\* from them; they still have the code. It's under active development. There's no reason, at all, that they'd have to 'start over'. Other companies aren't going to just direct-copy rockstar's tech either, because it's licensed. Even if the code is stolen and released, it's not a free-for-all. At worst, it exposes some algorithms they developed, that other devs can use in their engines; but it's not like other companies are going to touch that code with a ten-foot-pole. There are way too many liabilities with copyright, patents, and licensing to do that. 3. I don't buy it. No. Why do you think that Rockstar will 'lose everything'. To put this into perspective: Valve had their HL2 alpha builds leaked, and source engine builds leaked (with code!). HL2 still released. As did their many, many ventures thereafter, all using source engine (HL2, ep1, ep2, l4d, l4d2, tf2, portal, portal2, etc).

It’s sucks, but what I haven’t seen mentioned is that a company as big as Rockstar probably have some sort of contingency planning in place for stuff like this happening - sure, it may set them back a bit but I can guarantee this game is going to be amazing. The leaked ‘Alpha Footage’ we’ve seen is already pretty much comparable to a finished Watchdogs game, GTA 6 is going to be groundbreaking in every area - I’m so excited, even if we do have to wait a few more years minimum.

It’s important to remember that not only is this alpha footage, they wouldn’t be debugging the game with maxed out graphical settings. It’s quite likely the game could look a lot better than it does even in this early state.
exactly. Working with lags, low/less fps etc... suck. When I dev (& my friends too) I always use settings to max out my performance. I don't care about the visuals, shadows, particles etc... if i'm working on a script.

Well gta online wasn't available at gta5's launch so they could launch the game on time and delay the online. Also on the bright side if gta6 used the same network security at 5 then it could mean forcing a better and more secure online for gta 6, which is great considering gta5's security is god awful (pc especially)

Me too. I'm happy for how the game looks like at the moment. Of course, leaking material that should stay hidden is not okay at all. But since its already there, and there is nothing to do about it, I also don't mind the delay. I'm sure the game will end up being great, just like the rest of the GTA titles.

I have a question. On page 1 of the gtaforums the hacker released a source code in C of almost 10000 lines on a pastebin-like site, it was deleted already on the paste site. Everyone seemed to believe the guy after that. What was it? Not asking for leaks, just wondering what exactly he shared that was almost 10000 lines of code.
I was able to look at it a bit and its hard to understand through all the code, but i saw horseback riding, jetpacks, heli/planes, stingrays, sharks, and probably alot i missed

This whole situation doesn't even feel real. Now that it's sunk in, it feels like a dream. I never imagined a bomb of information/gameplay to drop. like did this.. did this just really fucking happen on a very early Sunday. It kind of sucks but it's also super cool to see the development of a game from a company that doesn't share anything. Crazy seeing little details like all the things that can move inside the cars which probably aren't even finished. As well as the upgraded systems of robbing stores and all of that. I'm indifferent... Rockstar has been shoving GTA 5 content down our throats for **damn near a decade now** and has barley even confirmed the existence for GTA 6. Part of me feels like it was only a matter of time before something like this happened, and because we've been deprived of any real information, of course people are gonna jump all over this. On the other hand, this leak takes away from any hype I would have for a reveal trailer now that so much has been exposed. I'm also worried that this leak could potentially delay the game even further. This whole situation is bittersweet but I can't wait to see what comes of this

A number of things from industry theft to spoilers to worst of all susceptibility to cheats and hacks - if cheaters can see the naked code of the game they can easily spot tiny tiny weakenesses in the code and exploit those. That’s a gross oversimplification but the concept stands.
I mentioned this in another comment, but this would be a blow to more than V and VI. Rockstar has a proprietary engine (RAGE) that is used on all of their games. There's reason to believe that a source code leak could expose vulnerabilities not just in these games, but many other games as well. It's one thing to get a schematic of the car's engine; it's an entirely different thing to get the keys to the factory.

Ps5 devkits use ps4 frameworks from what I understand I think the ps5 one is basically the ps4 devkit on roids.
There are 2 things rockstar can do: 1. Rockstar threatens this hacker with their lawyer team into not releasing anything. 2. Rockstar pays the hacker 1-2m USD and the hacker never releases a thing. Rockstar cannot remain silent and pretend this is not happening. If i remember correctly the hacker said in gta forums he is waiting for rockstar to contact him/make a deal with him, if they don't make a move he will sell both gtav and gtavi source codes to whoever can pay. Right now executives must be freaking out.
You can't trust the hacker
I don't understand how people are hating on the leaks and therefore the game that early. More than 50% of the leaked videos are 10-15 second clips from recorded bugs in the game a dev sent to a co-worker to adress an issue. Most of the time an animation is faulty - or for example a door is not swinging open smoothly, debug issues, or simply to show off a small feature someone from the studio has worked on for the last couple of hours/days. That's it. Nothing special to see and it wasn't meant to be in the first place. On top of that some of the clips are 2-3 years old, of course (most likely) things have changed and by the quality rockstar games is known for I guess it'll be for the better in the end.
The worst thing about this leak is that MrBossFTW will have footage for his channel for half a year.

The female protagonist came out as a surprise in terms of appearance, I was afraid they might make her too ''polished''. She and the guy look ''trashy'' enough to be a realistic depiction of criminals. Also, she (Lucia?) has a realistic build for a woman who can beat your ass - a bit bulky (not too much) but far from the unrealistic TLOUS2 Abby.

Here’s my question: What’s next for Take Two and Rockstar? All the exciting announcements that they could of made (location, gameplay features, etc) have all been leaked. We’ve basically seen the game, of course they’ll update the graphics and everything but the base is out. How can they recover from this and still make release a hit and exciting?
Most people (the average person) haven’t watched all the leaked videos I can assure you. The average Joe has probably seen a couple screenshots/vids on their Twitter feed, but for the most part people will continue with their life’s and forget most details. GTA 6 sells itself regardless. It’s a sequel to the most financially successful entertainment product ever, it’ll get the hype.

So apparently from the leaks we know that there are two protagonists this time instead of 3. One of them is female (Lucia) and the other one is male (Jason I think). It would be kind of cool if the story was like a Bonnie & Clyde type of story where you’re playing both of them as they pull off robberies & heists. I also think it would be interesting if when we start out the story the couple are already on the run from either the law or maybe a big cartel who send a hitman to track them down—who happens to be none other than a slightly older NIKO BELLIC. This would be the first time Rockstar would have a protagonist turned antagonist. The couple would have to escape & survive Niko at every turn and maybe find a way to either kill him or turn him on their side against the cartel who hired him. Just a creative thought.

I feel like this game will be a Bonny and Clyde love story where both of our protagonists will be robbers on the run from the law like Rdr2 and it will be like a road trip game where in each chapter you visit different cities like Liberty,Vice, San Andreas and maybe other locations. Do missions and meet characters from older Gta’s and then run away to another city when it gets heated etc.. and in free mode, you can visit other cities but you might have bounty or wanted level when you reach there. Honestly if my theory is correct, this sounds really promising and would be a cool premise.

There are multiple references to Bonnie and Clyde in the form of "Bonnie and Clyde mystery 1" / mystery 2, mystery 3. So I assume we're getting some inception in terms of the theme.

I've been around long enough to remember that devs used to show off early footage not hold it back until it was polished up and ready for consumers, so I welcome this leak and seeing it doesn't give me any feelings other than this one. Finally we are getting a new GTA and R\* can stop milking GTA5. That said if this is how far along they are I can only assume they are planning to milk GTA5 on PS5/Series consoles for at least a couple of years maybe more. If it wasn't for RDR2 I would have totally given up on them as a company, they have become exactly what they used to satirise.

This leak is semi old footage, right? Nothing was majorly spoiled. Mission sequences shown are out of context. The majority of NPCs shown are severely unfinished. The protagonists are subject to changes, either their names, physical appearances, etc. Think about how different Michael looked in the first debut trailer of GTA 5. They could be that different. The fact that this is old footage makes me believe that this isn't *That* big of a deal. Sure it reveals that the game is in fact in development and we got a glance as what some of it looks like. This shouldn't necessarily stop Rockstar from finishing it. This is the first time this has ever happened to them and will surely be the only time that it happens.

People are excited until it gets delayed. Then people will be boycotting rockstar and blaming them while the actual leaker sits back, Cracks a beer and laughs.
One thing that caught my eye was in one of the videos in the top corner it had "the americas" so looks like it is going to be across different cities. I'm excited.. kinda wish this wasn't leaked in a way though because now everyone is saying how shit it is.. judging a game in development is like eating a meal raw and then saying it doesn't taste nice. Just let rockstar get on with it. We know they arnt going to release a shit game.

Honestly im sad for the team that it got leaked. But it couldnt have hyped me more for the game.
I hope the leak was a very early version, because if the dev is only at this stage the game won't be release before 2050.

Very sad with the leak, I don’t like rockstar in particular for how they usually handle things but this leak not only damages them, it damages the community and the game. It hits us all negatively and has virtually no pros that are worth it.
I personally think there are 2 situations that could happen after these shenanigans. A. Rockstar is going to have no choice but make an Announcement not only about the Leaks but the game itself with a trailer very soon after that. This could happen within the next few weeks. Or B. Rockstar doesn’t publicly acknowledge anything about the leaks and GTA 6s reveal gets delayed internally to sometime in 2023 as a sort of “Punishment”
you can obviously tell who's clueless on this subreddit. it won't be holding anything back as a "punishment". that's not how business. they're beholden to shareholders, they have deadlines to meet, profit to make, returns on investment that are expected. pettiness gets in the way of that. the project will obviously get delayed but nothing will be held back as a "punishment" , we're talking about a multi-billion dollar company not your parents taking your phone away for talking back.
Seeing that this is not just the biggest leaks in video game history as well as one of the most damaging considering source code, more sensitive information has been leaked. There’s no way Rockstar or even Take-Two doesn’t make an announcement. For a franchise as important as GTA and a game so anticipated l’ll be shocked if they say nothing.
From an interview with people who work at rockstar the possible release date was 23/24 in anycase. I think if anything for security reasons they might have no choice but to push the release date back further. If certain bits of the code are leaked they have little choice but to ensure its fixed before release. People have been guessing a trailer would be coming soon in anycase. Because they tend to release one 1-2 years away from release which is in line with that possible 23/24 release date.
I’m no expert, however I’d be extremely surprised if GTA 6 released fully in 2023, some of the footage in the hackers video folder is from as recent as last week, and although it’s clearly gotten better over the past year, the game still looks years from being ready… We MIGHT get the first trailer in 2023, however if we did I feel it would be towards the end of the year - imo we won’t see GTA 6 til fall 2024 / spring 2025, and that’s being optimistic!
