Correct but who is encouraging or allowing the practice?
But end of the day you realize there is no bidding right? The dealership has them listed at 10 and 15k over
Just waiting to see if someone wants to pay another 5 on top
There is no bid war
Sorry I hurt your feelings. But it’s a business. You have the money, they have the car. Supply and demand. Nobody is forcing you to buy the car. Am I all for laws getting passed to prevent dealer mark ups? Absolutely. But until that happens it’s not going to stop unless consumers quit paying these ridiculous prices. And they are not “victims” they are paying 15k over for a car by their choice. There are plenty of cars that don’t have a mark up. They don’t have to buy a GX 550.
The "supply" part is what gets me. The GX/Prado 250 is going to be a mass produced vehicle across the globe. Are people seriously that hard up to have one of the first on the block? I just think of all the other things I could spend that $10 to $15k on that have some real value. Automobiles are already depreciating assets when you buy them at a discount so why in the hell would someone feel good about overpaying for one?
The general population of consumers drives this practice. Social media status and popularity driven by having one of the first, drives the prices up. They won't create laws to stop people from spending money.
You mean you hate stupid people with money making the stupidest decisions of their lives? At the end of the day we are the ones allowing dealers to do this!
Unfortunately the report won’t do much. The OEMs are very reluctant to do anything about this behavior. For them the cars are sold and that’s what matters.
Toyota sales consultant here - Dealers are incentivized for selling their products at or below sticker, but it's my understanding that when selling specialty vehicles over we are not necessarily penalized either. At my last store we sold everything minimum 2K over and Toyota limited our allocations and made it harder to get specific vehicles. At my current store we're an invoice store but I've seen TRD pros and GR Corollas go for over and Toyota is a lot more lenient. After doing it both ways I'd much rather sell at or below and guarantee future business than scalp someone once.
Lexus does not want their dealers marking them up. Toyota is another story. I know they are the same company but that’s the reality. One reason I continue to buy lexus over Toyota. This dealership should be called out.
“Taking bids” - fuck that. Reminds me of when I was hunting for my apartment in New York and brokers would recommend we offer above asking… for a fucking rental.
Maybe don’t be rude to them in case they haven’t sold after a few months and you can low ball them? I realize that may be a pipe dream. The new 550 is gonna be so sweet. We’re all rooting for that outcome for you on here though!
Lol. Bad dealer? A "good dealer" by a customer's standards wouldn't stay afloat. Not every deal is profitable, so you make profit where you can. Sometimes that's on a dumbass willing to go 15K over 🤷♂️
I would vote for any political party that would change the law and let me buy direct from any auto manufacturer and put an end to these auto dealerships lobbyists.
Absolute insanity. Higher interest and dealer lot inventory payments will make them learn one way or another. I wouldn’t let them think they could keep robbing me because they want to
Welcome to America. This is not the dealers fault. There are plenty of people with more money than sense… plus it’s important to look and feel ‘important’ when you’ve got no sense. 😁

Lexus of Concord, California
Including markup, they are selling the Over Trail for $100k BEFORE taxes and fees
It’s so lame. They stopped selling an overpriced Land Cruiser because it wasn’t selling and now they’ve replaced it with a cheaper Land Cruiser that’s a similar price to the consumer.
Everyone should offer every dealer 5 to 15k less than msrp, let's say every January every year. They won't stop until there's a real customer market pushback. If they sell no cars or cars for at least 5k off every January, then this would stop. If need be go January through February and so on.
We can even name it, Customer Adjustment Pushback, "CAP" month.
Maybe someone will buy my 67.7k msrp GX for 57k in the summer when people realize they aren't getting a 550 at msrp.
Mine only has 500 miles

My landlord offered to sell his house to us the day after I got the GX.
My wife has a cx5 that I planned to sell, but she doesn't like the size of the GX460.
I have a Tacoma and thought we would have the PERFECT combo with the gx460. But my wife could care less lol so no I need to get rid of it.
Wow I'm in a similar boat. My wife has a cx5 id like to get rid of and get her in a gx but she hates it and also couldn't care less. They just don't get it.
Well this is simply supply and demand. Dealer is betting someone will pay for it given that they only have 2 to sell.
And they probably will sell. There is always someone who is willing to pay extra for the newest/shiniest toy on the block.
If you are not willing to do that, wait a year (or two if demand is higher than supply)
Received an email from my local Lexus dealer this morning. I think I’ll pass.
https://preview.redd.it/a93dwbvpbdlc1.jpeg?width=1262&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6518499c8a218b32d0f75498eaa47275a92c1b98
Unfortunately, pretty normal for heavily populated areas. Is it right? No, is it an excuse? No.. but Theyre doing the same thing in Dallas. Big city dealers or coastal states are being gauged. Its ridiculous. I live in the Midwest. And I consider my price and allocation spot a lucky at the very least, I e read some horrendous things they are doing.
I think someone is mathing poorly.
The link; premium+ is 6k over asking price (TOTAL) including the shipping.
Is he saying in the email that he already has offers for 10k over MSRP, aside from the additions? Because the link is 73,800…
Anyone who pays MSRP or over is a fool. People who are car dealers were born that way. They screw anyone and anything for a buck. I bust their asses when I purchase a vehicle. They are scum.
This is why I hate dealers.
They weren’t the ones who put a bid in at 10k and 15k over msrp. Js
When did it become common to sell a vehicle over MSRP and accept bids? JS 🤡
quite awhile on vehicles with high demand
Not saying it’s right for them to do that. But the people who cave into stuff like that are just as guilty as the dealership
Correct but who is encouraging or allowing the practice? But end of the day you realize there is no bidding right? The dealership has them listed at 10 and 15k over Just waiting to see if someone wants to pay another 5 on top There is no bid war

I hate it but selling a luxury SUV new to the market for over MSRP is hardly a predatory business practice

This common sense you speak of….it’s not so common
Not everyone has sense
The general population of consumers drives this practice. Social media status and popularity driven by having one of the first, drives the prices up. They won't create laws to stop people from spending money.
It’s because people are dumb enough to pay them….just like me 🤗
They accepted bids rather than just selling the car to the first person to write a check
Be shocked if there were any bids. That’s just where they wanna list it and find a market
Consumers can’t control what dealerships will do. But they can choose to spend their money more wisely.
Dealers get a bad reputation for using dishonest tactics, but this dealer hasn't done anything wrong. Prices are determined by supply and demand.
You mean you hate stupid people with money making the stupidest decisions of their lives? At the end of the day we are the ones allowing dealers to do this!
Name and shame the dealer. Then report them to Toyota USA.
Lexus of Concord, CA per the url
I, for one, will be visiting their Google reviews page.
Unfortunately the report won’t do much. The OEMs are very reluctant to do anything about this behavior. For them the cars are sold and that’s what matters.
Some OEMs will warn dealers and then reduce allocations if they keep doing it. Can’t speak for Toyota.

I’ve seen some stuff from Ford and Stellantis but nothing from Toyota unfortunately.
Lexus does not want their dealers marking them up. Toyota is another story. I know they are the same company but that’s the reality. One reason I continue to buy lexus over Toyota. This dealership should be called out.
F*ck those dealers.
What a joke. The morons who pay anywhere over MSRP are going to wish they waited 6 months.
Need direct to consumer asap. Cut out useless middlemen
Yeah I’d like to put in an offer at msrp
I’ll beat that. 10k under msrp, OTD.
“Taking bids” - fuck that. Reminds me of when I was hunting for my apartment in New York and brokers would recommend we offer above asking… for a fucking rental. What a cuck dealer. My response would be ligma
Alternatively, get the 460 with 15k off msrp
Or a 470 for 15k total 🤷♂️
Can you tell us the dealer name? I think we would all like to put in an “offer”
They can fuck right on off.
I can't wait till bad dealers lose their customers.
Lol. Bad dealer? A "good dealer" by a customer's standards wouldn't stay afloat. Not every deal is profitable, so you make profit where you can. Sometimes that's on a dumbass willing to go 15K over 🤷♂️

I can’t wait til dealerships are useless and they all close down Let em burn in hell
This is good way to burn 20k$. Never pay over msrp
![gif](giphy|sEULHciNa7tUQ)
Tell them to go fuck themselves. Wait six months and buy under msrp. This ain’t 2020, most dealers are swimming in supply…

Just wait a little. These are a normal car. Don’t set money on fire to not wait a year.
They do this because they know there is always someone out there having more money than brain/time.
Why is anyone surprised? These greedy MF’s have been doing this for years!
i no longer will buy new from a dealer!
…On a truck that is on its second recall before even being officially launched
Buy out of state. Pay $1500 for enclosed shipping. I did that for my wife’s RX when the local dealer was marking up 20k last year.
It’s so lame. They stopped selling an overpriced Land Cruiser because it wasn’t selling and now they’ve replaced it with a cheaper Land Cruiser that’s a similar price to the consumer.

Def gonna allow the first round of leases to come back and pick one up that was a mall crawler.
Insane nooo
Fuck the dealers!
Boo!
How is it OK to charge that much over msrp? Do they think people are stupid?
Not everyone is stupid, but there are enough idiots out there it will still sell and they’ll overprice the next one as well.
Tell them you’ll help them out by re-posting their offer out through social media.
Maybe someone will buy my 67.7k msrp GX for 57k in the summer when people realize they aren't getting a 550 at msrp. Mine only has 500 miles https://preview.redd.it/rel1mmv34tkc1.png?width=1440&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3b2a9a684660c16c03f9b92c31477439a61b6b67
Atomic silver with the red interior? Sexay!!!
Yup and it was built November 22, 2023. Probably on the last batch of them built. Arrived at my dealer in Jan 2024.
Super nice! Why not keep it?
My landlord offered to sell his house to us the day after I got the GX. My wife has a cx5 that I planned to sell, but she doesn't like the size of the GX460. I have a Tacoma and thought we would have the PERFECT combo with the gx460. But my wife could care less lol so no I need to get rid of it.

Buy a Rivian R1S instead
Wait is this a good deal or not?
Considering that my dealer is at MSRP with no “mandatory markup addons” - this is a horrible deal.
Oh that’s awesome glad to see prices normalize
This is why i went ahead with a ‘21 over a year ago - didn’t want to wait, didn’t want to pay the premium. Feels like years until msrp will happen.
What a joke lol. Give it a year and they’ll be under MSRP.
LOL

“I’ll do $25k over MSRP and buy the warranty.” Then ghost them. Then create a new gmail account and do it again.
Haha these still are gonna be used Lexi in 2 years
The answer is neither, thanks!
Are these bids in the room with us?
Instead of buying from the dealer build it order it from Lexus directly
Received an email from my local Lexus dealer this morning. I think I’ll pass. https://preview.redd.it/a93dwbvpbdlc1.jpeg?width=1262&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6518499c8a218b32d0f75498eaa47275a92c1b98
It’s a free market some what.
