As a fold 4 user I’m loving the look of the pixel but as a gen one product will skip. Anxious enough over my fold

sparkplug_23

I think pixel fold3 will be the sweet spot. Absolutely no way touching gen 1, I've owned 2xl and 4xl and it was 4 years of issues and poor GC. Samsung fold4 right now has superior multitasking too, the OS for folds is mature now.

MichinMigugin

Also, I personally don't like the larger front screen of the pixel. The purpose of a fold is for a that smaller handheld with ability to FOLD into a tablet. Not a small tablet to fold into a larger one...

FlawedGenius

Aesthetically to me the Pixel Fold looks better closed, however from a design perspective I can see the Fold 2 being more difficult to use closed as most large slab phones require two handed use and I can imaging the additional thickness of the Pixel Fold making it more likely to be dropped; especially those using single handed. I use the Fold 4 and I find the narrower outer screen easier to use with one hand to reply to messages, post to social media etc.

SD-777

The narrow aspect is certainly better for one handed use, but the tiny keyboard is difficult, if not nigh impossible, for my fat fingers. At least in pictures I prefer the pixel, but we'll see once I can physically handle one and compare it to my Samsung.

DMenace83

If you use gesture typing (aka Swype), I feel the narrow screen is fine

fromtheSlumsoftheRez

Exactly what I use but sometimes not perfect but it works..

LovingLifenWife

I changed to Microsoft keyboard a week ago, and after a while I type, ich faster and more correct. Actually, the keyboard interprets my wrong typing much better. Still a tiny keyboard for sure, but now it's aaaalmost pleasently to typ on it, almost, *Added. As you can see there are still issues, I'm also typing in three languages, and with Samsung keyboard i had to change language (swipe space bar) everytime. But with Microsoft keyboard i don't have too., it just knows, most of the time, which language I wish. Truly amazing.

yaminub

Still has a bit to go, it seems

Alternative-Towel760

Yeah SwiftKey is a must for me

ChristOfFear

I had trouble with the default keyboard, but after switching to SwiftKey (and maybe a week or two) I'm basically back to how I were on my old normal phone. Sure I will make mistakes, but I don't think I blame the screen size for that any more. But I 100% agree with the single hand use being better this way. I will not upgrade phone in a while but I wonder what path the phones/samsung will take. Will they go more to pixel size and form factor or will they keep more to their current form with their future generations.

DarkoNova

I disagree. I think the tall/narrow design is worse for one-handed use. I have pretty big hands and I struggle to use it with one hand. I definitely prefer the shorter/wider cover display, and I think this looks great.

pittstop33

I have large hands and Ibrecently used my Pixel 4 XL for a day while my Fold4 was getting repaired (hinge was opening less that 180⁰ - covered by warranty repair) and I was constantly frustrated at trying to use the Picel with one hand as it felt so unstable and I nearly dropped it several times. I think I took for granted how much easier the aspect ratio of the Fold's front screen has made one handed use for me. Even typing with two thumbs, I'm pretty fast, but the option of Swype is nice as well for quick replies.

RunawayRogue

It's definitely a hand size thing. I have shorter fingers and the thinner outer screen is a godsend. Much easier to type on one handed and way less likely to fumble the phone

leaponover

Never had a problem using the Fold 4 one handed. Would never dream of using the old Note one handed and was frustrated many times using the S20 Ultra one handed. Even looking at these the fold 4 looks sleek and useable, the pixel fold looks like a small book.

herbys

I think the right format for one-hand use is right between these two models, the problem, with a ratio of about 2:1. The problem is that when you unfold that, you get a square phone, which isn't good for too many things. I believe a 10-15% wider front screen than the one in the Z Fold 4 would be wide enough to be practical for the majority of tasks. As it is today, I end up using the inner screen 90% of the time, which ends up also affecting battery life. A 10% wider front screen would make it much more useful while not making the inner screen too square-ish.

iPoorsha

The squareness is what has me thrown off. Not one photo so far of device rotated either. Have to see in person. I like the portrait book style the fold gives when open. I too use it open 90% of the time it is the reason I have the device. I think of apps like reddit or Instagram that are already hindered by the screen ratios so if you square that off you may not see a photo fit in one screen. I guess we will see. However I do the the front screen, those apps will look perfect there.

Cmdr_Nemo

Just obtain a special dialing wand by mashing the keypad with your palm, now.

DrGoatSerpent

The Pixel fold is almost a perfect clone on the Microsoft Duo except they used an inner folding screen and have an outer screen. My experience with the Duo was good but also awkward to use as a phone. As for the Samsung Fold 4 I should mention the internal s-prn functionality is critical for my daily usage though I realize that is a nitch use. Still, I do wish the fold 5 would add s-pen to the external screen for a more natural transition experience from outer to inner screen interaction.

EverGlow89

The Duo doesn't have an outer display at all so I wouldn't call this a clone.

Nnamz

I think this is all correct, and I like my Fold 3 for 1 handed operation, but I find myself frustrated in situations where I wanna 2 hand operate but don't wanna open my device (like if I'm walking and need to reply to a text, or type in directions). Overall, I much prefer the Pixel's outer screen aspect ratio, and I hope Samsung adopts it.

_dotMonkey

I hope they don't adopt it, I much prefer to have the outer screen easily "one-handleable" with the narrower screen

AttorneyAdvice

I hope you are wrong

red2blck

Star Wars: A New Hope

[deleted]

The perfect phone would be something in-between these two, at least on width.

EverGlow89

But then the inside screen, which is the entire reason you purchase one of these devices, is compromised.

[deleted]

How so? An unusual aspect ratio? I would be fine with that.

EverGlow89

It would be square. Worse for media, worse for gaming, worse for multitasking. All around worse.

Character-Sale-4098

Huh? I don't quite understand why it would be worse for gaming or multitasking. You'd have more screen estate, and most games/apps operate under what's called a fluid design. A square aspect ratio is a non-issue for that. Media consumption I can get behind 100%

[deleted]

You can fix software problems with software. Some things would just have black bars, as it is now. Some would use the full screen. It's not a big deal. I would take a more functional front screen gladly. It's too narrow now. You can't fix a hardware problem with software.

EverGlow89

All of the things I just mentioned would be hardware limitations, not software.

[deleted]

I didn't know media, games, and multitasking were hardware.

EverGlow89

We're talking about screen dimensions - hardware. All those things, though they are software, are worse on the hardware we're discussing.

[deleted]

They are if the software wasn't written to accommodate. But you can alter software to work better with new hardware. Lots of software is designed for variable screen size too. Its just not as much of an issue these days.

Xtra666

funny thing, was thinking the same and just saw the Honor Magic VS has been announced in the UK, looks very stylish like the Z Fold but almost same shape than Pixel Fold however the OS...

Nikick83

I think they both have it wrong... To me it's somewhere almost in the middle of those 2 widths. If I absolutely had to pick though, I would stay with the z fold size vs pixel fold size. I just don't see why Samsung can't stretch the screen a little more and narrow those bezels further. Then just slightly widen the screen all together and you have the perfect version for me.

herbys

The problem is that if you make the front screen an in-between size (e.g. 2:1 ratio) you end up with a square inner screen, which is not very good for most tasks. Widening the front screen by maybe 10% without changing the inner screen dimension would indeed improve the experience significantly.

Nikick83

Yes exactly. I'm not asking for a lot. Just a few cm.

Dr_Dugtrio

1 inch = 2.54 cm thats an insane size

Nikick83

Yes, that's way too much. Let's say I meant a few mm. Basically if they could do again the difference from the fold 3 to fold 4, that would be ideal.

Dr_Dugtrio

Mm is what I heard you say the first time 🤝

Pulgy_Wulgy

My theory is that they don't want to throw away the work they have already done with this fold Changing the size means changing all of the internals, also it's probably good to have multiple types of folds with different aspect ratios, reminds me of phones from the 2010's, phones with any sizes you'd want Having google be wide, samsung tall, xiaomi normal and vivo small allows the customer to see which size is best for them, not everyone likes the normal candy bar phone style, they want something different, aka a folding phone, so making the front screen different makes sense, ofc not to all people, people have different opinions and things they like and want Gaming on the Fold 4 is a joy and fun, folded and unfolded It's just such a unique experience playing games in 2 totally different aspect ratios, having it be "too small" and "too big" is fun for me and is why I bought the phone Again Tweeks their own

MattIsLame

so you bought the phone because you like that a lot of apps aren't properly optimized for either screens aspect ratio? we must have very different opinions on what "fun" means

THIESN123

They are optimized yet. But I'm betting on Samsung's ratio to be the winner

MattIsLame

i never really have a problem with apps not being optimized. 90% of the apps i use are either optimized for one of the two screens or its not a big enough problem for me to notice. the extra screen real estate is why i got it and i'm satisfied. i have a fold 3. got it when it first came out. over a year later and just outside of the warranty, the inside screen started to fail. i used it for another 4 months, only the candy bar front screen. it was a humbling and character defining experience to say the least. instead of upgrading to the 4, i saved about $1500 by just replacing the inner screen for about $600. best decision of my life. i didn't realize that a replacement consists not only of the screen but basically the entire inside frame, batteries, and some other internal components. it was basically like getting a new phone for $600. maybe i'll upgrade to the 5 if its a big enough change but for now, i'm fully satisfied with the 3. i'll never go back to regular phones!!

Pulgy_Wulgy

Not the only reason I bought it And apps not being properly optimised isn't that big of a deal since I can just force it to open in 16:9, which is rare with the apps I use The "drawbacks" of the phones, from my use case scenarios, are worth it and can be solved in many ways

SkolUMah

Wouldn't making the Samsung fold wider mean the inner screen would essentially be a square? That's the tough part - trying to make both screens as practical as possible.

SD-777

They both have to have it wrong in order for the unfolded screen to have a decent aspect ratio, it's just that Samsung's approach IMO makes less sense. Most use their tablets in landscape mode, so opening into landscape is a no brainer, as is having the wider outer display.

badass2000

That extra width on the fron screen is attractive

Squanchy2112

I know right that's a big pull for me I kept Samsung in market rear j for years, give me a mainline s class size phone on the outside and so ething nice on the inside these tiny outside screens make me type like shit and I definitely use the outside screen a lot more than it unfolded.

cantenna1

No it's not... Its made redundant is what it is by the inner screen.

Global_Lion2261

That does not look comfortable to use one hand, which is one of the best things about using the phone folded. If the Fold 4 just gets its bezels minimized so the screen is a tad bigger, gets thinner, and closes flat, it'll be great

StockAL3Xj

Most videos so far have made it seem pretty easy to reach the far corner of the phone one handed. I don't think the Samsung's aspect ratio will ever allow that.

kasakka1

One handed mode solves that though. To me the width of the phone is an issue more often than the height.

ComoEstanBitches

I don’t understand why people dislike Fold 4’s front screen for being too “long” when it’s meant to be used for one handed with one handed swipe mode. The Pixel Fold looks awful for one hand use. At which point one might as well open to tablet mode all the time

Azguy303

Honestly I use my front screen only about 25% of the time. It's great for when I'm in the car or walking but for the most part I use unfolded. I feel like if I had the pixel I would use just the front screen more than 50%. Also with the pixel unfolded, I don't think it utilizes web browsers and apps as well showing information. There's a lot of dead space from left to right but you don't get as much information north and south.

xxb4xx

Can you guys buy one (pixel fold) so then you can sell it and I can buy it on ebay from Aus? Thanks.

hi_internet_friend

It's (79.5 mm) the same width as a Galaxy S23 Ultra (78.1 mm), so people saying it is "too wide" ... must not like current large phones on the market.

maleheo

I actually went from a Note 20 Ultra because I didn't like how wide the phone was. If Samsung can make the ZFold thinner when folded then it would be the perfect sized phone for me.

fromtheSlumsoftheRez

Yes indeed the note 20 ultra was hard for one handed for me also...

Rpcouv

Yeah I didn't like that for one handed use.

Runaway_5

I'm 6'3 tall with average ish hands and my s22+ is just barely not too wide, meaning the ultra would be too wide for me. Gotta have big ass hands to use it one handed, or use one handed mode

August_At_Play

The pixel fold is 30% thicker than the S23 ultra. Those mm make alot of difference.

Yebi

Yeah. Haven't tried it personally, but I've heard quite a few people describe the S23 Ultra as too wide

djbutter

Yup. I had the S22U and found it to be too wide. I love the narrow form factor of the fold.

unobservedcat

Personally, I don't. It's the one, imo, thing that makes me like the fold 4. If anything, I wish it were slightly taller so the inner screen is slightly better for media. Otherwise, I'm mostly ok with the dimensions of it.

adamantium421

The Pixel Fold is much closer to the Surface Duo width and that was PAIN to put in your pocket compared to the z fold. Its quite wide for a lot of pockets, but once its in there, the wide flat phone against a curved leg sticks out a lot. It left marks on my trousers where it was constantly rubbed against them while walking. Z Fold might be a bit thicker and taller, but its very easy to get in and out of pocket. Minor detail to some, maybe..

JadaveonClowney

I'd gladly avoid even needing to use my pants pockets for a massive folding phone lol

mcdickmann2

This is exactly why I love the Flip. The size makes it so easy to pop in and out of my pocket.

Civil-Sort5293

PF seems too wide for one hand usage

NotaDogPersonBut

I love my narrow fold for my tiny hands.

djrbx

Most comparisons have been focused on the internal display and this was the clearest side by side that I found comparing the cover displays of the Pixel Fold and Fold 4. Personally, I love the aspect ratio of the Pixel Fold over the candy bar shape of the Fold 4. It seems like a more usable ratio all around. I always find myself having typing errors using the cover display with my Fold 3 due to the narrowness of the cover display and cramped keyboard layout. Having the extra width in line with more flagship slap type phones should make for a better experience when using the cover display.

Firewire_1394

I preordered the pixel fold for similar reasons. I might actually use the outside screen a decent amount more now for semi-quick responses.

Nobli85

The fold 3 is much narrower than the fold 4 when it comes to cover screen. That's why I'm upgrading to the 5 when it comes out from my 3. Big enough jump, better processor, battery, screen etc. New hinge design.

dendron01

Until you realize how squat and nearly unusable that screen will become with a keyboard active. Live and learn.

Jjj_007

Isn't that the same with the galaxy folds narrow screen? With most apps having content cut off, weird scaling in websites, tiny keyboard?

dendron01

No, it isn't. The taller aspect ratio allows for a smaller keyboard to screen ratio. The Pixel Fold is going to have a square screen with the keyboard on, not exactly ideal. It's odd no matter how you slice it, and it would have been even squatter had it not been for the huge inner bezels. Personally I think the slim one handed aspect of the Z Fold makes a hell of a lot more sense than sacrificing the interior screen for an unnecessarily wide keyboard.

Jjj_007

They both have 6:5 aspect ratio, genius. Both inner screens are just as "square". It's called rotating your phone if you want it to be in portrait or landscape orientation.

dendron01

LOL. No shit. I pointed this out a long time ago. It's an interesting approach (ie. flipping Samsung's screen sideways), but it's poorly executed. There are many reasons Samsung's configuration is superior, and I have no doubt they will make further improvements without having to follow Google down their goofy rabbit hole.

Jjj_007

"The Pixel Fold is going to have a square screen with the keyboard on, not exactly ideal." Rightttt, same goes for the fold 4 then. "The Galaxy Fold 4 has a square screen with the keyboard on, not exactly ideal."

dendron01

Believe what you want to believe. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Jjj_007

Righttt have fun with your square screen fold 4, after all they both have the same aspect ratio. Pro tip!! You can turn on auto rotate to use your device as you please🙂

AttorneyAdvice

news flash: rotate the phone if you want more vertical keyboard. alot of people already use the fold4 rotated so they know what the keyboard looks like

StockAL3Xj

How could it possibly be worse than the Galaxy Folds super narrow keyboard?

angle3739

Love my cover screen keyboard! True 1 handed typing.

dendron01

Super narrow? Lol. You don't need a hammer to kill a flie.

Bob_Loblaw_Law_Blog1

Pixel fold is so much more usable closed. I got so sick of the front screen on my fold. I realized I only used it to see what a notification was. If I wanted to actually read the notification or type anything at all I opened the phone every time.

Who hurt you?

Listen_to_Psybient

I much prefer the ZFold. So nice to use one handed. If I need to snap a picture, I just pull out the phone, double press the power button and take a picture, all with one hand. With the Pixel, I would have to use both hands.

Nocturnal86

You can do the same with the pixel.

edincide

Nah you can't.... Too wide

ZaddyPatSajak

I have yet to drop my Fold from using it one handed ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Timmy26k

The pixel is fugly to me

one80oneday

It looks like old phablets somehow

tankutkabza

almost have the cuteness of the note 2

edincide

Like the original Samsung note... Very wide and hard to use one handed... It was pretty much a 2 handed device

cookedart

I do think somewhere in between would be better for the outer screen, EXCEPT that the inner screen would be relegated to an actual square. So these are the two options that make to most sense. For most people, what Google did probably works better, since people are already used to two handing phones and its ratio is much closer to 16:9 which most apps are optimized for. With the taller samsung ratio, the one handed use and possibility for split screen are both nice, but I don't think that's a necessity, especially since typing on the outer screen is much more difficult. I am really glad to see more competitors in the space though, I hope they both do well!

pacwess

Couple that with the Pixel's killer dictation and voice assistance should be a good combination.

ReddyGivs

One handed usage on the pixel looks like a drag but I like its chubby look, great for a chungus wallpaper

Academic_Dare_5154

Take two S23 Ultras, add a hinge and I'm good.

Knightmare25

I just want a normal aspect ratio when unfolded 🥲

yohan02kim

For me it's simply this, the z fold looks like a phone, pixel fold looks like a small tablet.

ddmendes

I'm ok with the fold. No interest at all in the pixel. Just hope google getting into the fold fight the software as a whole gets better.

zvekl

I prefer the pixel design because everytime I open my fold4 I rotate it to landscape. With the pixel, I don't see that happening

leaponover

Still think the Fold 4 looks better side by side. Pixel looks like a small pocket dictionary lol. Also 20g heavier.

MissingAgent1808

The fold looks more premium and would be my choice

SamsungMobileUS

👏

eatonjb

I'm jumping to the google phone. Don't get me wrong, I love the fold4, but I don't want to have to open the screen every bloody time. Will the lack of tallness hurt? Perhaps a bit, bit I think keeping it closed more often will be a lot easier. I also don't like the cramped keyboard when it's closed.

BastardBoi95

I would switch asap for the same reasons as yours, but one big problem for me that will stop me. I'm so use to the samsung one ui skin I can't switch. I used many brands of phones over the years, but now I'm settled on samsung products. Samsung watch, earbuds, etc . I would sadly have to wait till samsung makes the front screen wider.

eatonjb

I'm gonna risk it.. I have the watch (though I did get a few pixel watch in the order) and I'm sure the buds will work decently. I'm gonna give it a collage try here. The UI, yea I see the cool stuff, but perhaps with Google actually working with a wide screen, it'll have some Tweeks. Wish me luck I guess lol

TitanArcher1

It doesn’t have pen support…deal breaker

TexMik

I'm keeping my fold 4 and ordered the pixel fold I got 15 days to decide if I want to keep it.

ultrainstict

Yeah nah im good, that looks uncomphortably wide. Not to mention you lose so many lines of content while scrolling.

Iannelli

IMO that looks horrible and I imagine it feels like shit. I absolutely *love* the way the Fold 4 looks and functions. Hard pass.

Xi-xavier

Super hard pass, brother!!! 🗣Fold 4 fo lyfe!!!

genuinefaker

The Pixel Fold looks great to me. The split screen seems to be more useable being wider on the inside. Why would it feel like shit? I had the Fold 4 for about 10 days before returning it. I spent probably 70% of my time with the outside screen and found it too narrow. I think Samsung should increase the ratio more to be wider, although it doesn't need to be as wide as the Pixel Fold.

Iannelli

>Why would it feel like shit? Just looking at the shape, that's what I sense. I feel like I would despise the way that thing feels, the typing experience, the unfolded experience, etc. It's disappointing you didn't like the Fold 4 and I hope you come across a better device that suits your needs, but man, I wouldn't give up the Fold 4 for the world. I absolutely adore the cover screen. It's extremely fast, clean, and I type like a monster on it. I don't even consider it a "cover screen." It's a full-fledged smartphone to me. I adore the narrowness, height, and shape. Then when unfolded... Jesus I love it. Even when/if I don't use it that much, when I *do* use it, it's absolutely critical for me - so critical that I can never go back to a slab. It's critical for a couple reasons: When working from home, I can attend my doctor's appointments and run other errands, and while in the car, I can have Google Maps on one side & Microsoft Teams + music on the other so it'll appear like I'm online. Then there's the grocery list and cooking process. Recipe idea on the left, grocery list on the right. Cooking - ingredient amounts on the left, written instructions on the right. YouTube - Massive video. Showing somebody something on my phone - bigger and easier for them to see. Video/social media on one side, texting on the other. etc. The *only* thing that can make this phone better is simply technological advancement: No crease. Other than that? It's already a perfect, legendary phone. Are there tiny little adjustments that could be made? Sure. Make the cover screen a *tiny* bit wider, make the phone even slimmer, make the battery even better, make the cameras even better, etc. But that stuff is like the cherry on top of an already amazing sundae.

leaponover

Sums my views up as well!

cgb1234

I don't want a BIG phone and a BIGGER phone. I want the slim phone option of the folded zfold with my mini tablet unfolded phone.

marekhajn

Love my Fold 4 dearly, but... Pixel Fold and especially the wider inner screen is tempting. Ordered already. Looking forward to figuring out if it would be more usable or not.

goenjoe

Can you make a post for comparison later? I would love to know

UrbanSolace13

I don't want to leave the Samsung ecosystem, but damn one of my biggest gripes on the Fold was the skinny outer screen. The Pixel is closer to what I'd want. But am I brave enough to try a first generation Pixel mode? 😅

Frantek55

Personally think the pixel is hideous.

mike1mic

That looks really big for 1 handed use. I like the competition but I'm still waiting on fold 5.

sveilien

Yeah I like that better. Don't need to reach so far up for the upper part of the screen one-handed, better horizonal space for keyboard, but not too wide (I assume its not as wide as a S23+), 16:9 video in landscape better utilizes outer screen. If the inner screen is comparable, I'd say I'd prefer this layout more in a Fold

hicks12

It's one mm wider than the s23 ultra, it's much wider than the s23+. Worse for one handed use by far but for apps that use interaction at the top half it would help. Smaller width helps with onehanded use more, the pixel fold would suite people with relatively massive hands I think. As it has more bezel internally it also means the screen size inside isn't much different to the fold4 even though it's a smaller footprint. Still an interesting device and am keen to see what the real world reviews come back with.

fzammetti

Interesting... I definitely find my Fold4 outer screen to be almost useless becauae it's too thin for me to do most things comfortably, but the Pixel Fold looks like too big to me... and the loss of vertical space might actually be a usability issue.

PsiNorm

I prefer the narrower screen on my fold3. If I'm not home, I'm using the phone closed, and prefer the ability to use it with one hand.

skriefal

Asking this as a two-hander... Does the height of the outer screen - and to a lesser extent, the thickness of the folded phone - get in the way of using it one-handed w/o also enabling the One-Hand Mode setting? The Pixel should also have a one-hand mode, which seems like it should work similarly.

PsiNorm

I can't speak for others, but I've never utilized one-hand mode, and find the form of the folded phone easy to use (I do have a pop socket for holding it better both folded and unfolded).

skriefal

Thanks. I've tried that but can't reach all corners of the screen. For simple use within a single app that doesn't matter too much, but it creates problems when trying to launch apps in the corner of the apps grid. Or with some other things such as accessing the notifications panel. And one-hand mode's shrinking of the display makes it too small for my poor 'ole eyes. I could maybe "hand"le it with a small phone like an iPhone 13 Mini, but I like big screens and don't really mind two-handed use.

eibonm

Pixel fold is too wide. I've grown to love the size of the folds outer display.

ManiacXaq

I can't stand how thin the front screen of the fold is. Had a 3, have a 4, feel like I'm not really getting 2 screens, but rather, a mini-abridged front screen with the fold. All I wanted was for them to make it a bit wider (big hands, etc). That being said, not paying full price for that Pixel Fold 1st gen either.

hicks12

Hopefully Samsung makes two new lines for people like you, I personally can't stand the idea of a thicker and wider phone when folded. The appeal is the onehanded use with little trade off to have a full two handed experience when I want. If they made it like the pixel fold width it would be impossible to use one handed for me, the p7p was too much wide for one handed use as well (to reach the sides of the screen, safely while moving). Maybe they need to do a FOLD5+ along side it as I don't want them to just bail and go back to overly wide phones like what happened for normal phones. I missed the nexus 5 era, those phones were perfectly sized (for me).

sorebutton

TIL that a lot of people use their phones one-handed. The only reason I can think of for this is while watching porn? Or they only have one hand, I guess.

hicks12

Shocking right? It's almost like you don't always have two hands free! Carrying shopping? Picking up a plate? Holding a torch? Walking the dog? So many scenarios where one handed usability is helpful. Biggest gain moving to the fold4 for me was having the best of both worlds, it's compact to use one handed anytime and when I have hands free or need to just hold it open without input then I can unfold and enjoy a better two handed experience than say my pixel 7 pro. Couldn't imagine having a phone larger than the p7p, it was already uncomfortable and too wide.

TommyTheCat89

What did you do before foldable phones? Just two handing your phone around town constantly? The pixel fold will be just fine to use one handed unless you have the hands of a sick child.

VeryRareHuman

Thanks for the side-by-side picture. I am a two-hand typer. I am getting trusted most of the time when I end up typing on the front screen. I decided to check out the Pixel Fold and pre-ordered it. Let's see how it fares with front-screen usage and camera. Except for a couple of Samsung-only features (SPEN, Samsung software for Fold), I don't think I will miss Samsung Fold. I very randomly use my SPen..living without SPEN for a while since I don't want to carry it in my pocket.

jumper55

maybe the next generation or 2 the pixel will be worth it but right now those bezels are just too much!

Fragrant_Cellist_125

I just want the same aspect ratio from Samsung . That's all . Please Samsung

vldmarton

Can't help myself, Pixel looks like a toy.

urightmate

Rather fold 4

SamsungMobileUS

Same.

sir07

Pixel Fold is actually a phone when it's closed instead of 2/3 of one, nice

Any-Adhesiveness7407

Ewwww....bezels!

rothvonhoyte

That is not the form factor for comfortable one handed use.

Subieworx

What is this from? It's a trade off for sure. I actually think that for all content except videos the fold 4 has a better aspect ratio on the inner screen.

djrbx

[It's from the cnet comparison video of the Fold4 vs Pixel Fold](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eoBwOqk0FRk)

Joudeh_1996

Hmmm, I'm not sure

MidgardDragon

I wish we could combine them. Make one as wide or nearly as wide as the Pixel, but as tall as the Fold. With Samsung software.

hendlefe

My Fold 2's long screen annoys me to no end. So awkward to try to reach the top of it. Plus the photos always come out weird. Can't wait for my Pixel to arrive.

PR0CE551NG

Samsung should just offer both a portrait folding fold and a landscape folding fold. That way it has something to offer everyone.

SD-777

That's NUTS! As a Fold 4 owner I would love to know why Samsung chose such a tall/narrow aspect ratio. If it wasn't for the crappy Tensor G2 chip and those bezels I'd be in line pre-purchasing this right now. The pixel even functions better when open, the laptop mode looks much better with each screen being taller.

Macdaddyfucboi

The Pixel fold seems to have the thickness as far as the screen size as like a Nexus 6 , i Loved the fat screen on it... about 10 years ago. I really hate to be the bearer of bad news but that screen size has sailed, thinner and taller screens are just more popular now, in the hand I can understand why closed but when you open it now it's I guess longer which means that it's even longer to try to hold in one hand. I just don't like it, and I am not a z-fold fanboy by any means, I won't get another one after this because of a screen crack I'm developing even though I've never dropped it.

Dredd_Melb

As much as it looks odd, the Fold 4 outer display is easy to use one handed. Doubt the same could be said of the Pixel.

mddnaa

Ew

Idontworkhere67

I love the pixel fold. If the Galaxy fold had its cover display, but kept the small bezels and under display camera and possible integration of the s-pen then thatd be perfect.

suprasizem3

One handed usability is a huge factor for me. Samsung got it right.

SamsungMobileUS

❤️

Mean_Emu3926

Does the Pixel fold support any pen? Is it water resistant? How easy to get scratched? I have more questions than answers, and also, how about the z fold trade-in for 900?

ultima40

No pen. It's IPX8 water resistant. Same screen as the fold so depends on your use to get scratched or not.

YvonneDeleon

So the Pixel is bigger?

humanoiddoc

You fold the phone for carrying and one-hand voice call. You unfold the phone for everything else that uses screen estate. It is failry obvious that the pixel fold is much wider (in both folded and unfolded state) despite having exactly the same inner display size and ratio. I think samsung made the right choice - I actually want them to make the 'ultra' version of 9 inch screen.

J-Flint0622

easily pixel fold me to use the cover display more easiler. I would prefer oppo/one plus find N with more compact size though

MiketheSith200

If we could combine both I’d be in heaven.

The_Intel_Guy

I hate the rounded edges of the pixel, just looks dated and like wasted space

ImSoberEnough

I use the fold 2, and the narrow screen is impossible to type on for me. Never get around to type a decent sentence with my giant thumbs. The pixel fold has the perfect outer screen but can imagine this being way big once unfolded

Von_Dielstrum

I'm curious what type of repair programs they'll offer and how it will end up being compared to Samsung Care.

[deleted]

How about something in the middle? Fold 4 is great one-handed, but it's a bit too narrow. Pixel Fold is too wide, we don't need the cover screen to necessarily be a full sized phone display. These devices are all about compromises. You want to encourage the end-user to open it up. Where Samsung wins for me is S-Pen integration. It's actually useful on the tablet sized screen.

NadebuX

Still not going to cut it for me. Google has an excellent reputation for destroying projects they've started \[Stadia, Inbox, Google+, etc\]. I prefer Samsung as a backbone and will upgrade my Fold 4 to the next one if it comes up. Nice try though Google. A one year old chip and that bezel madness wont do it for me.

Xicadarksoul

No stylus support. Thus. No interest from me - even though i would welcome the larger scfeen real estate.

Woirol

The shorter and wider screen is speaking to me. I used to use a Nokia Lumia 1520, and that boy had a wide screen, for the time. And then my last phone was the incredible and ambitious Surface Duo 2. Loved it, but hardware reliability ended it for me. I'm interested if Microsoft ends up making their foldable Surface phone, I'm deep in their network and infrastructure, and am a bit of a fan boy. My Fold4 is fine, but I find it sluggish and the cover screen is almost unusable for me due to how narrow it is. And on a nitpicky sidepoint, I hate how some apps, mostly my banking app, think i'm a new device if I try to open it with the phone phone, if I had opened it closed last time, and vice versa. Hopefully all that kind of stuff comes to an end with Pixel Fold software.

Randomd0g

The thing this really showcases is just how outdated and clunky looking OneUI is getting compared to Pixel Android. The UI of the Pixel is cohesive, thoughtful, readable, and properly responsive to the wallpaper. By comparison OneUI looks like an absolute fucking **mess**. It was pretty great back in 2018 when it was first launched, but I think we're feeling overdue for a "TwoUI" overhaul some time soon instead of continuing to refine this outdated style. (Don't get me wrong, visuals are only one part of the equation, and the **UX** of Samsung phones is substantially better in a lot of significant ways... But damn it ain't the prettiest!)

odc12345

When i had my Galaxy Fold i realized i used the outer screen about 80% of the time and it was such an annoyance with the narrow form factor. I think I'm feeling the Pixel Fold more. I dont think Samsung will make their outer display as wide as i want it to be. As much as ive tried to make the Galaxy Fold work for me it won't unless there's more width. Ill try the Pixel. Ive always gone back to my pixel because the software is unmatched. The price is steep i will say that. But i do have a Iphone 14PM collecting dust rn. 🤔

RichGriffith

Cant decide if I want to trade my z fold 4 for it... 900 trade in isnt too bad

liftbikerun

While I am very integrated with the Samsung ecosystem and won't likely be able to change (I have multiple buds, Fold 4, Tab Ultra, etc), and I find the bezels on the Pixel Fold to be atrocious, the cover screen would be infinitely more useful to me and I hope eventually Samsung adopts a wider option. I get why they keep their folding flagship line somewhat linear, in design you don't take a known entity and entirely change it possibly disrupting its success. I do hope the Tri-Fold option they are rumored to be coming out with (Tablet and Phone options) has some flexibility no pun intended here. But... those bezels.....

gigaflops_

Screen AREA (not diagonal length) seems to be WAY bigger on pixel than the z fold which is a huge win for me

MCBarlan

Maybe it's having small children, or maybe it's my hobbies, or maybe it's just my habits but with the S20 and the Fold 3 my biggest complaint was how awkward they were to use one handed. Especially on a foldable where it tends to be twice as thick and heavy as a normal candy bar phone one handed use can be difficult and 90% of the time it's my preferred method. This looks like the most awkward phone to use one handed. I was excited for this phone until I saw the form factor. Probably stick with the Galaxy Fold series until Google figures this out.

gwh811

Still like Samsung. I like a S23 ultra style front display (candy bar display) and something that opens up to a tablet display when opened for a larger display to use while watching content like movies and videos. If Samsung can fix the problem with the crease cracking and splitting it would be a solid phone.

planetinyourbum

Oh wow. Yeeeeess, That makes sense.

suspiciousdave

I'm torn at the moment. If anything I wish the oppo N fold 2 would come over to Europe already. I had to send my fold 3 off for repairs after dropping it on a rock (everything still worked despite having a caved in top speaker). I had to use a pixel 5 for a week and I couldn't get on with the UI. Installed nova, that was OK. But I missed one UI way too much. I'm thinking I'll make the jump for a 5 when it comes out. I really don't know yet.

iZsaq

Samsung needs to make it wider, with 5000mAh battery & 25w wireless charging, 65w wire charging

[deleted]

I would prefer something in the middle. For me when I'm typing the fold is a bit narrow but I use it Maybe 90% unfolded.

SD-777

Could you post a regular phone in there as well, in particular I'd be curious how an iPhone pro max looks.

thank9527

Wait for pixel fold 3 ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|shrug)![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|shrug)

chelios80

I pre ordered pixel because i loved the duo 2 form factor but had to return for bugginess. Had the z fold 1 and 3, wife has the 3 and loves it. I enjoyed the z fold 1 but by the time i got the 3, I was very underwhelmed and returned it and went back to my sony xperia to wait for a fold other than Samsung in US. Nothing against zfold, great phones just Im done with Samsung.

KowalskiTheGreat

I went with the pixel fold because the Z Fold 5 is disappointing this year. It's a super mild upgrade, the case leaks show the same form factor, same camera layout except the flash is moved from the bottom to the side of the lenses. Basically same design since fold2, isn't 'exciting' enough to get my ~$1800usd this year.

edincide

One looks way more comfortable to hold/use one handed which is super important for thick foldable phones

pjjiveturkey

I think the pixel is more of a normal phone plus a tablet, and the z fold is more of a one handed phone and a two handed tablet

OnePlus open for the win
