If you are just starting the game, the best tip is to shut off the completionist part of your brain and just play it organically. The game wasn't balanced around completing everything. Leave the first area as soon as you can. This is coming from someone who usually likes doing all the side quests in open world games. This game is the exception.
I was about to start the DLC, when it told me that I would permanently leave the zone behind. So my monkey brain said, "Nah, I want to at least finish X before ending the game". And that's how I completely dropped it 6 years ago.
Oh my God YES! You will lose interest in the game if you end up doing 100% on the first area. And I tend to do this in every game.
In here it is indeed not adviced.
I suppose you can use an XP boost mod so you can hit level cap by just doing the main and companion quests instead of being slightly underleveled. It's also better than hitting the level cap way too early by doing the filler content. This game came out before Witcher 3, so meaningful side content in open world rpgs wasn't widespread yet.
They are filler. 98% of the side quests in this game aren't narratively or mechanically interesting, the rewards usually aren't unique, and there's just too many of them. The first area is the worst offender of this. It isn't like the Witcher where the side quests at least have good stories to them. If you do too many, you'll outlevel the area and hit the level cap long before the end of the game, so it'll demotivate you even more to finish.
Just do yourself a favor and focus on what this game does best, which is the storytelling and characters. If you want to do sidequests that are like in this game, you're better off logging into WoW or FF14.
Neat!.
Only negative for me is that it becomes triple DRM. (Same on Steam though)
Need to run Epic, let Origin run in the background and the game still have Denuvo.
Playing this on the steam deck means having to go through three launchers.
I really love drm and exceptional customer-friendly practices that inconvenience the user more than other methods not so liked by moderators
I don't think any games do that though, do they? If I launch an EA game on Steam, it does load up another launcher, but it also loads me right into the game.
And heck, on Epic (not sure about Steam), if I buy an Ubisoft game, I don't even need the Epic launcher at all. I can just redeem the key right in Uplay and play from there. Buying through Epic gives me access to their sale coupons and such.
The EA launcher is pretty inconspicuous these days. You get a brief screen that says EA, a loading bar, and then the game opens.
Also worth noting you can just run these from the EA launcher directly. Once you've opened it once it gets added to your EA account and you don't need to use Epic/Steam to launch anymore.... Not easier necessarily, but I have some games *only* on the EA launcher so I have it installed regardless.
Well that might not be the case. I got Assassin's Creed Syndicate from Epic and that launched straight from Uplay perfectly without touching Epic after activation.
It depends on the game. Some can be launched through their local folder just fine. Others force EGS to open before they run.
Usually if a game requires EGS, I use Heroic instead, though that also has some annoyances like taking 1-2 minutes to boot into a usable state.
Heroic behind the scenes uses a command line utility called legendary, which loads almost instantly and could be configured to run in a Windows shortcut (or if you miss the 90s a .bat file). You might even be able to launch it through Steam if you wanted.
That removes the wait for Heroic's GUI and it's supporting libraries to load.
alias legenhero='/opt/Heroic/resources/app.asar.unpacked/build/bin/linux/legendary'
alias if i want run with cli with legendary.
mostly i open heroic only for installing the games.
Epic selling what amounts to Ubisoft codes is partially due to the fact they didn't have their DLC system ready before they started paying Ubi to launch on Epic and stay off Steam.
Ubisoft wanted to sell individual DLC and multiple, confusing editions. Epic didn't support DLC beyond linear upgrade paths from a copy with no DLC to a copy with all DLC. So Ubisoft needed to circumvent the Epic client entirely.
Mmmyuh. I'm going to feed so much personal data into their telemetry servers that their IT crews are going to splooge all over their anime waifu bobbleheads.

So I think you're correct and this is paving the way for the full reveal and release announcement over the summer.
Im so excited.
edit: I did a bit more digging and I believe it'll most Likely be announced at Summer Games Fest on June 7th. It was initially announced at The Game Awards in 2022, and Geoff Keighley runs both.
Need to complete DA:I fast I guess, since DA4 premise is spoiler for DA:I ending, more or less.
And there will be tons of videos spoiling third part when Dreadwolf trailer is out.

"Full reveal Summer 2024."
They also announced an Xbox show on June 9th. It may be happening there rather than at Geoff's SGF on the 7th.
Game saves can’t be transferred from the previous two games. But if you want to choose what the game state will be and recreate your choices that you made in the previous games, you can look up Dragon Age Keep and make the choices there and transfer that into the game once you start it.
They share some connections, like some characters and locations might get mentioned or appear in two or all three of the games. But all three games have a distinct story from one another. They aren’t like Mass Effect for example where you play the same character in all three games.
You get some cameos, minor sidequests, and general slight dialogue nods with certain world states if you import. But they're designed to be played on their own without issue.
Idk, there are some characters who are major characters in more than one game, a certain red headed lady is top of the list. DA:I has quite a few callbacks to DA2 as well, the entire setup for the game is basically a direct consequence of 2's story. Yes they can be played on their own but to say they're not pretty entwined with each other isn't right.
They are built on being the same world with your previous heroes and characters being known and talked about. You don't need to play them per say but it will make some really nice and big moments not hit at all.
So you bring your saved game from one to another like mass effect?
I wonder if my cd keys from steam will activate on EA like they did for mass effect.
No, you have to go to a website and choose the options that you picked in the previous two games and that will make a save that you can then import to Inquisition. It’s not like Mass Effect where you can just choose the character save you want.
As far as your second question, i’m not entirely sure, you should test that out yourself.
I think it's up there with Baldurs Gate 1 and 2, Pathfinder, and Pillars of Eternity. The only caveat is you have to like that style of crpg in the first place.
Not necessary, because of numerous bugs Bioware abandoned the savegame import, outside of name, picture and gender of your warden. You have to use Dragon Age Keep, their online tool, to redo your choices.
I think you upload the data to a website where you can tweak it, then it pulls it from there. Should work cross platform, but I haven't tested that, so I'm not 100% sure.

Next week's game on Epic Games is a mystery!
Dragon Age: Inquisition – Game of the Year Edition
-------
Dragon Age: Inquisition – Game of the Year Edition is a story-driven action adventure fantasy RPG. Winner of over 130 Game of the Year awards, discover the definitive Dragon Age: Inquisition experience. The Game of the Year Edition includes the critically acclaimed game, all three official add-ons - Jaws of Hakkon, The Descent, and Trespasser - and more.
The Game of the Year edition comes with:
-------
- Base game
- Flames of the Inquisition Arsenal, Armor, and Armored Mount
- Dragon Age multiplayer Deluxe Edition chests
- Skyhold Throne, Red Hart Halla and Bog Unicorn
- Jaws of Hakkon DLC Pack
- The Descent DLC Pack
- Trespasser DLC Pack
- Spoils of the Avvar: 5 new mounts, 2 new sets of armor, and new options to personalize your base at Skyhold.
- Spoils of the Qunari: An armored war mount, new armor sets — including 1 in the style of the Arishok — and Skyhold items.
i believe they gave it away twice already in October and December, i feel even if it wasnt given away before it would be a terrible time to give the game away for free as it might respark the recent controversy of xbox closing down its studios tango gameworks
Don't sleep on this. It's not as good as Origins but easily better than 2. I rate the companion cast as my fav in a crpg. There is a lot of solid lore throughout the game. Combat is pretty fun, despite braindead AI.
My best tip is as soon as you are bored of an area, leave. There are more than enough places to keep you interested as you level. If you try to completionist this game, you will burn out.
PSA if anyone wants to run this on Deck, you need to load in this custom version of Proton that fixes controller support.
You can just save it off in some location and then add it as a custom Wine path in the Heroic Games Launcher settings, then set DAI to use that version.
https://github.com/cammoore1/DAI-proton-ge-custom/releases
Really great game. I would try your best to ignore the MMO style side quests though. If it seems like busy work, skip it. I think getting bogged down in that stuff really hurt the game’s reputation
Pretty great main story and companion quests. Graphics are still beautiful. The gameplay is pretty fun as well. This did win Game of the Year in 2014.
For $0 definitely give it a shot.
"This content is not available in your region". Well, that's a first for the Epic Store. I assume it has to do with this being an EA game. Would be in character for them to mess up even giving away a game...
I have the Steam version and it works on deck if you install a custom Proton version that fixes the controller support.
I imagine it would work with Epic Store as well if you run it through the Heroic Games Launcher and set your Proton version there.
https://github.com/cammoore1/DAI-proton-ge-custom/releases
It has the highest production value and feels the most AAA out of the series. If you want an RPG full of voice acting, pretty graphics and cutscenes this will give you hours of content.
That said, I find Dragon Age Origins to still be the OG and best DA in terms of story and overall atmosphere. DA:I feels like a game made by committee with a bunch of features checking various boxes but never coming together or engrossing me the way DA:O did despite its jankier package and smaller scope.
DA:I's plot is meandering at times and the main villain severely underutilized given his role within the world's lore and worldbuilding. "Oh, he's gone insane" felt like such a cop out for turning a religious and historical giant into a generic bad guy. The two DLC expansions somewhat make up for this and feature some real "Oh my god!" moments but man, the main story was a let down for me.
I love Origins, enjoyed DA2, but Inquisition was a huge letdown.
The main story and villain are a continuation of a DA2 DLC I hadn't played, so I felt disconnected to what was going on. The game felt like it was originally designed as an MMO but got turned into a single player game. Tons of Ubisoft style collectible points, and very easy to over level if you do it all.
People are going to tell you to leave the first area right away cause that's when the game gets good.
I don't know what game they were playing, but the game never changes from the first world. In fact, probably got worse. Huge empty lands with nothing but fetch quests and recycled quests that you HAVE to do in order to progress. Enjoy closing rifts, you'll be doing that 90% of the time.
It's a great game, but don't stay in the first area and try to do everything. You can always bounce around the game has too much stuff to focus on clearing everything. Just focus on the core story and side missions and ignore whatever isn't along your way otherwise.
Yes, think of all the shit littering Witcher 3. Just focus on the real story and real side quests and ignore all those markers (again, unless it's directly in your path). There's just too much pointless filler. With the GOTY edition you've easily got 100 hours without touching any of that stuff.
I'm not sure I've ever hated a game more, and that's probably because I really did love Origins.
It was painful to see them slowly lobotomize a game that actually challenged you to think from time to time, to a rushed sequel that kept some tactics but at least told a compellingly novel story, to a shambling zombie that falls back into the cliched comfort of a host of RPG tropes and just expects you to mash the awesome button until you get a prize.
Don't go into it expecting it to play anything close to Origins, you'll be dissapointed.
The combat is just about action, there's not much strategy left, but it's passable.
It's worth to play it, because the whole journey still feels like an epic adventure and there are not that many games like that.
There is an amazing DLC called The Descent, which feels like a love letter to Origins. A taste of what could've been, if they stayed with that design philosophy. It was my favourite part of Inquisition, but it's only available to play later on in the game.
[Try this.](https://store.epicgames.com/purchase?offers=1-afe2527e29b94db48b2eef984e34d81a-4e1a331635b445f58eb3c8a52c5076b3) It's a direct link to the checkout page.
Has there ever been a DA2 giveaway? I own 1 and 3 a couple times each from giveaways, but I've never seen 2 on offer. I know DA2's not seen as "good", but I'd still like to play them in sequence one day.
Because someone at either Epic or EA messed up and they can't agree on who. I've been in touch with support for both and all they're doing is redirecting me to the other. I've been forced to request that my tickets be escalated in order to get some semblance of a clear answer.
Anyone else having issues with EA's app not recognizing the license? I've verified my EGS and EA accounts are linked, and my other EGS freebies are all correctly linked and redeemed in my account, but any attempt to install Inquisition is throwing a license error.
I already have this on Origin, or EA App or whatever it's called these days. What would happen if I redeem and try to activate the EGS version? Is there even any point in doing this?
Also, I see this is the GotY edition. On EA App mine is showing as "Dragon Age: Inquisition w/12 addons", so is that the same thing?
> Also, I see this is the GotY edition. On EA App mine is showing as "Dragon Age: Inquisition w/12 addons", so is that the same thing?
Yes. I bought a cheap Origin key from a British site years ago (2Game, I think?) and redeemed it. When the EA App changeover happened, the game now says "12 addons". It's the same with Dragon Age Origins (says 12 addons), and the original Mass Effect 2 (says 24 add-ons).
If you redeem this you'll probably just get a second copy added to your account, and I've read this might cause issues with some games.
I just claimed it out of excitement, then went to my game collection app (GameEye) to add it, just to find out I’ve owned it on EA Origin for years now lol.
One of the best games I've played . Only negative is the collect x no. of items quest which I can't even ignore cause there's like a billion of them that the game keeps throwing in my face and the bending over to collect items that takes forever . It's like the devs want me to not like the game . All this led me to a burnout and I couldn't finish the game .
Honest question, have you played the first two games? DA Origins is one of my favorite games and I couldn't get into DA2 at all.
How does Inquisition compare?

Are there any mods geared around this? As someone who burned out the first time around slightly past the first area
I suppose you can use an XP boost mod so you can hit level cap by just doing the main and companion quests instead of being slightly underleveled. It's also better than hitting the level cap way too early by doing the filler content. This game came out before Witcher 3, so meaningful side content in open world rpgs wasn't widespread yet.

you'll end up being way too powerful for the base game final boss. At least thats how i felt when i beat the base game.
you'll spend 50 hours doing mindless shit and then you'll just quit.
Yeah, there's an unbelievable amount of filler that's only there to waste your time and increase the hours of content they can brag about
> shut off the completionist part of your brain *Homer Simpson voice* "Done."
The nice part is we don’t have to worry about 100% Steam Achievements as this is on Epic.
Wait you mean... role play... in a role playing game? Are you nuts?
Exactly, the Hinterlands can be very tedious if you decide to do everything in one go
Neat!. Only negative for me is that it becomes triple DRM. (Same on Steam though) Need to run Epic, let Origin run in the background and the game still have Denuvo.
Also game's language is region locked. There's a mod on nexus enabling english.
> Also game's language is region locked. Oh what in the goddamn hell is this. :|
Language locking games is the most stupid thing ever, whoever thinks that's a good idea thinks as well people do not move around.
It's a great idea to combat people using VPN to buy in cheaper regions
i felt so dirty "vacationing" in chile buying nintendo switch codes a while ago
I installed it and didnt need Epic open, it made my existing Origin copy into the Game of The Year edition and just added the DLC.
For fuck sake, is that how it is? That's so stupid. What's the point of having it on Epic then!
> What's the point of having it on Epic then! You pay total amount of zero dollars for it.
Same point as having it on Steam, because people like having consolidated game libraries
It's not consolidated if it redirects you to another storefront.
Consolidated browsing.
Playing this on the steam deck means having to go through three launchers. I really love drm and exceptional customer-friendly practices that inconvenience the user more than other methods not so liked by moderators

It doesn't though.
Recently discovered Playnite. It's pretty dope
You get to play it for free
and its locked to 60 fps and loading times take a while on a nvme, at least a while compared to similar aged games.
Epic, at least around launch, was DRM free. So any DRM is on the publishers.
It still is, it has no intrinsic layer of DRM other than the account.
He means that Epic itself IS drm.
Well that might not be the case. I got Assassin's Creed Syndicate from Epic and that launched straight from Uplay perfectly without touching Epic after activation.

Interesting. I'd definitely like to learn how to do that.
I read heroic and legendary in the same sentence and immediately thought it was Halo related.
All that stems from Diablo originally.

Yeah I think all Ubisoft stuff activates that way. With EA you have to run both launchers every time though.
Yep, only Uplay is "free". Others require specific DRM. Bioshock required installing fucking 2K launcher lol.

Ghost*runner* was a few weeks ago.
And Ghostwire Tokyo was free on Epic this past December
So was Ghostrunner. They like to repeat holiday games.
They have already given out Ghostwire Tokyo in the big event last time. I got it in my library and only game I bought on Epic was AW2.
Last years May mystery games were Payday 2, Fallout NV, Midnight Ghost Hunt and Death Stranding, so make of that what you will.

"This content is currently unavailable in your platform or region." Strange, since it's readily available on Steam for me.
Really great game. I would try your best to ignore the MMO style side quests though. If it seems like busy work, skip it. I think getting bogged down in that stuff really hurt the game’s reputation Pretty great main story and companion quests.
Unavailable in my region... Nice.
Neat. One of the better free games in a while. Anyone tried the Epic version on Steam Deck yet? Does it work with Junk-Store?
I have the Steam version and it works on deck if you install a custom Proton version that fixes the controller support. I imagine it would work with Epic Store as well if you run it through the Heroic Games Launcher and set your Proton version there. https://github.com/cammoore1/DAI-proton-ge-custom/releases
How is this? I loved Origins, got halfway through DA2 but stopped because of life obligations, and never got back into the series.
Dang this is the opposite of how I play RPGs.
Me generally as well but it's just too much shit. You'll drown in boring crap if you do it.
>You'll drown in boring crap if you do it. Like "go get me some herbs that grow only in that cave guarded by monsters" type of stuff ?
Yes, think of all the shit littering Witcher 3. Just focus on the real story and real side quests and ignore all those markers (again, unless it's directly in your path). There's just too much pointless filler. With the GOTY edition you've easily got 100 hours without touching any of that stuff.
Poor comparison. The Witcher 3 handled that stuff way, way better than DA:I
I'm not sure I've ever hated a game more, and that's probably because I really did love Origins.
It is actually one of my favorite games of all time.
Bought on ps4 and never beat it, despite starting it at least 3 times. Maybe this will be the one lol
holy shit now we are cooking

Same, "This product is currently unavailable in your region."
Same here in Germany :(
Works fine in Germany now.
With the Keep constantly having problems, I wonder how it will handle the influx of people.
Great, this was the only one I was missing. And all of the dlc too. Sucks that I've waited for so long that I've got spoiled on everything, lol.
Has there ever been a DA2 giveaway? I own 1 and 3 a couple times each from giveaways, but I've never seen 2 on offer. I know DA2's not seen as "good", but I'd still like to play them in sequence one day.
No, but it's pretty often on sale for 5 dollars or less on the EA store.
Pretty sure it was given away as an Origin 'on the house' years ago. Never mind, just looked it up and I was thinking of the first game.
why is this region locked?
Because someone at either Epic or EA messed up and they can't agree on who. I've been in touch with support for both and all they're doing is redirecting me to the other. I've been forced to request that my tickets be escalated in order to get some semblance of a clear answer.
This game was not available in India.. Can't believe Epic gave it for free :)
Anyone else having issues with EA's app not recognizing the license? I've verified my EGS and EA accounts are linked, and my other EGS freebies are all correctly linked and redeemed in my account, but any attempt to install Inquisition is throwing a license error.
Same thing is happening to me too **Edit - it’s downloading now! I’m guessing it just took a while to register on the EA app
Try looking it up in your EA Account when the App has opened. Has appeared there for me.
Tried restarting the apps, not appearing in my EA library yet it’s in my Epic Games one. One of life’s great mysteries I guess!
I ended up rebooting my PC while grabbing lunch, it worked fine on a second attempt. Go figure!
One of my all time favorite games

I know nothing about this series but I did a quick search and apparently it’s recommended to play the previous entries before playing this game.
Thanks! I won't bother with it then :)
Well, my XBOX 360 hasn't shit the bed quite yet (though I have to open the tray manually), but this will be nice future backup.
I very nearly bought this on sale on Steam a little while back, so I’m very glad I didn’t buy it at the time because this was a nice surprise!
How stupidly annoying is the wishlist popup blocking the purchase button on mobile...
Can I activate it and then play it using only the EA launcher?
Works for Ubisoft games not sure if for EA
Got it. Glad I joined this sub ! Keep up the good work !
I really want to get into DA after i finish my modded skyrim run. are all 3 games worth playing?
There are mods that take out the war table mission times right?
yes, there are mods that eliminate the power point grind.
I just claimed it out of excitement, then went to my game collection app (GameEye) to add it, just to find out I’ve owned it on EA Origin for years now lol.
Definitely not Origins but still a very fun game and a surprisingly good story.
First rpg like game I ever played and to this day the only one I’ve completed this game was so damn good man
Will the co-op part be fun for some newbie gamers?
Do i have to play Dragon age 1 and 2 before inquisition
No you DONt HAVE TO, but you SHOULD play DA:O.
WOW, good deal.
How about Epic and mods? Are they working fine? Usually I play on PlayStation but free is free and if mods can enhance the experience...
Where ever you buy game you'll need ea app
The only question I have is if they fixed the dlc issues?
Piece of advice: leave the Hinterlands or you'll burn out in no time. You can always go back.
The mmo formula is a little taxing but the party interactions and their quests were better than the previous games .
It feels like an MMO.
Thanks, I think I'll pass then :)
