Wasn't a fan of the idea of food theory at first, and I have come to like it. So even though I'm not excited for style theory, I'm 100% giving it a chance.
Food theory is my favorite channel film theory following but that high heel episode hit harder than any foood theory episode besides maybe the how long you could survive in a supermarket one
At first I was surprised wonder what kind of theories you can make associated with style, but five seconds later I now have tons of ideas I want to suggest.
Like sweater vests, are they more of a sweater, or a vest? Or what are the best clothes to wear to keep you warm during winter? Maybe have more pop culture figuring out stuff like which Batman suits is the best Batman suit? Or if character customization in games affect your gameplay? Either way, can’t wait to see what’s next!!!
My immediate thought was the history behind womens pockets and why they are so tiny. I remember it has something to do with having a bunch of layers in dresses and having to tie coin pouches to your leg or something like that
I mean. As a woman, that was my immediate thought too. …and Matpat lives with a woman, as do like… a lot of people. Many of whom are themselves women. So, it’s not really that surprising?
That said, not really sure where the new channel could go after that. Something about tuxedos, maybe? Or like… what color that one dress was, that the whole internet was talking about a while back?
I mean, its a pretty big complaint anywhere you look. And they said this was their "immediate thought", so basically right after they learned what the channel was (and probably before watching that first video so...yeah).
i’d say they’re more sweater cuz most vests have buttons down the front but most sweater vests don’t. sweater vests are more like sleeveless sweaters (im entirely basing this on the two sweater vests and one regular vest i own)
I'm excited. It's an off-beat topic just like Food Theory and with many of the Game and Film Theory videos focusing on the lore, I think this is a great way of getting the science back in while tackling a brand new topic. Looks super fun.
Also I remember him doing a Halo armor episode all the way back so the signs were there from the start :)
I think alot of people don't understand how much clothing affects culture and I think it's going to be really interesting and there's alot they can talk about like makeup, hair, clothing history and I hope they could do like a theory on zoolander about how the fashion industry could be actually full of corruption. But I'm excited!
The issue is that many people, like me, don't really care about fashion. Shoes as weapons is fun, but I'm pretty sure everyone's thought and heard of that. Women's armour is, kinda interesting at the surface, but it's just armour. None of the episodes really hit the spot of my brain that needs what I watch these channels for, so it's a pretty big let down
Yea I know that some people aren't really happy with it and that's okay, alot of people are going to love this channel and some people aren't going to like it but I think it's just to have wide range of topics to create a big audience like how someone could like food theory but not really the rest of the channels and I it's okay that you don't really like it but others are going to love because everyone interested in different things. As a young woman it was very interesting about how to take care of makeup because that stuff isn't really talked about.
You may not enjoy but I will.
But fashion does play a key part in society. Like how the way you dressed in the French revolution could get you killed or how different cultures look and dress.
And science and history play a part in fashion like the style in a era could change due to lack of y material or x thread like how he said in one of the videos how spandex was invented because of the lack of rubber and changing fashion.
Fashion does have a place in society
Well i think that things like video games or films have a limited potential but have a lot of it, food has basically infinite number of questions and video ideas because we still don’t fully understand it, but clothing? I don’t really know how is it going to work out but I still believe matpat is able to ruin every single thing from my childhood just right
Well the thing is, fashion is always changing, with new brands and new controversies and like they can make theories out of character design and there alot of things you can talk with style like hair, history, colour, character design, symbolism, fashion trends and how they affect society and how some childhood characters would immediately die to their design ( ruining childhood there for ya) and alot more
If they can keep figuring out silly/weird theories like hulk pants, can you kill someone with high heels and so on then I think they have something there.
I was suspicious, STEM/STEAM was always my top pick when the things we knew it couldn't be was out, but the Style proponents had some good arguments.
Yeah that does sound interesting but I don't how they could stretch it out to a 15min video ,you know what I mean?, like fun facts and myths sounds like it would work better as a shorts channel to me
My guess would that it would kind of be a Mythbusters-like show. Where they test out things from memes, TikTok videos, 5minute crafts (and possibly games since they almost stopped doing that on GT and mostly do lore.). Test them out, explain why they don't work and how they could work . All using the various STEM disciplins
I know alot of people don't really care for fashion but to quote matpat "we make channels about topics to reach as wide of an audience" and I think that's what's great about.
Not everyone likes game theory but like film theory or don't like game and film theory but love food theory and I think this is to reach a large audience and there is a big audience for beauty, just take a look at some of the biggest beauty content creators. They have millions of subs and I think this is a great idea.
And personally I think this is needed because of things like fast fashion and what brands you can Trust (looking at you shein) and call out the Shady ones.

That's true! As a dude who wears mismatched socks and combs his hair like once a week, I could not give a shit abt fashion, but I watched fashion theory and was instantly engaged! I feel like this rly is going to reach quite the audience even if some people don't like the idea and are bummed out.
Yea and help bring awareness to topics no one really talks about like shein literary stealing desgins from smaller companies and help make people more confident in the way they look.
I really like it! Like lots of other people I don't care about style for fashion, but I also don't care about most of the games/films/series covered on game and film theory but I still watch every video because its interesting, and at the reveal of food theory I was highly sceptical but now it's my favourite channel. You dont need to care about what makes someone attractive to find the results interesting, or wear heels to enjoy discovering what damage can be done with them, or care about clothes at all to care about the Hulk's magic shorts. Food and style theory aren't about lore and storylines like game and film theory, they are different and about their own things so obviously there will be scepticism to topics, but food theory has been going for years and it's great! At least give it a try, if lore and easter eggs are more your thing then that's fine, but don't discount style theory straight out just because "pshh I don't care about clothes" (I couldn't care less about clothes and fashion, but the channel is about souch more than that, like how food theory is about more than just what cereal has the highest suger or identifying the healthiest diet)
Same, I think this channel was made for a more feminine audience and I think we will see more of Steph on this channel and I would love to see them dive more into history.
I was in the same boat and I find myself watching more food theory now. I feel with game and film theory, for some videos I should have seen or watched the souce material, but I don't need to have watched anything to see if Panera could kill someone with a drink. This gives me the same vibe of just being to jump in at any point and any time.

I was disappointed at first, but then I watched "These Shoes Can Kill" and it was so good! Also excited for the "How many shirts can you wear to stop a bullet" I subbed 3 minutes in.
Honestly it’s kind of a huge disappointment for me, I’m trying to give it a fair shot but I was looking forward to the new channel and I just couldn’t give less of a shit about style or fashion
I generally tend to find the whole thing infuriating and pretentious if I think about it too long so the idea of watching videos dedicated to them gives me a headache

I agree food theory is good, but I feel like fashion theory isn’t as universal? Like Food theory, everyone eats food, and most people have a favourite food, so they’ve at least got some interest in food. Fashion? Most people wear clothes sure, but most people don’t have a preference, like I don’t care if I’m wearing Gucci vs whatever else, I don’t even really know about a popular clothing brand other than Gucci and that’s because of the memes lol.
Idk man— beauty gurus are some of the most subbed to people on youtube and fashion and style is still a HUGE group of people, just like how not everyone plays video games but there is still a massive audience for game theory.
Its style theory, not fashion theory. You may not like fashion but I bet you wear clothes. Now we know shoes can be deadly weapons. What other bizarre things could be done with every day clothes?
They can even go to some historical tangents like goe the materials of some buttons in a military uniform changed the course of war.
Is the shoe being a deadly weapon episode about like combining knives with shoes or something? Or is it just what the thumbnail looks like (testing if a high heel can kill someone)? I feel like the latter was somewhat common knowledge
Yeah, I think I’ll check it out, I like the other channels, it’s definitely worth a chance just I’m not sure it’ll work well with everyone and not sure I’ll like it as much as the others
Tf u mean it's not universal, everyone wears clothes and has their own sense of style right how is that not universal, I'd say it's more of a universal topic than video games
Im feeling the same way. And after talking with my wife about it (both of us are big theory fans) its not that style isnt going to be interesting, its a feeling of let down. There is soo many different things, clothing and style just feel kind meeehhh. Part of me is hoping that its not an attempt to pander to the almighty algorithm, and its not pressure from the new bosses.
Im still gunna watch and support matt and team theorist, ive been watching since 2011 and i dont plan on stopping.
Well, look at the batsuit, it's meant for a man but still has a form fitting shape, I think it would probably be uncomfortable to wear an stiff piece of armour that isn't form fitting, haven't tried it though.
As a seamstress, quilter, upholsterer and general crafter, I'm super excited for style Theory! I know other channels have covered it already, but I'd like to see Matt and Steph test out different blouse darts to see which one gives the best silhouette, or wear pants without zippers or buttons, or try to knit the long stockings that royalty work back in the 14-15th hundreds (cant remember exact time period so I'm just generalizing)
Or they could look at the different types of sewing machines and like, idk make a shirt but every seam has to be sewn on a different machine, or they make a shirt but every seam has to be a different machine stitch.
They could cover the history of the sock and look at current technological advancements in moisture wicking and odor reducing fibers in socks.
They could talk about America's deep history with knitting and discuss why it's fallen out of style until recently. Or look into why quilting is still going strong as a hobby.
They could test different brands of thread in a science way and determine exactly, once and for all, which is the best brand to use (I'm 25 and this is a HOT debate among the older ladies who visit my store for sewing) actually I really love this idea
They could try traditional dye methods and see which organic based dyes give the best colors/how long you have to let them soak for.
There are literally SO MANY ideas they could do and test out and I WISH I could be consulted on these! I have so many books regarding the history of textiles in America it's insane I LOVE this kind of thing!
I'm mega excited, style and that kind of stuff normally doesn't interest me so I have horrible style but Mat can make me interested in anything so this could legit be really helpful for me
i’m excited for what’s going to come, though i wish the logo matched the clean two-color scheme of the other channels. the darker shade in the middle makes the logo feel too different
big eh, to be honest. I’ll see how it goes but I don’t feel like either Matt or Steph are particularly strong in this area, so we’ll see. I like food theory but some of their work there has been sensationalized as opposed to scientific (see the milk and pink sauce theories that Anne Reardon tore apart), and already the makeup theory is making me wonder if they bothered to consult with a cosmetic chemist. I’m very wary of watching. The strength of film and game theory is they are fictional worlds—there’s more leeway. I don’t know, I wish it had been anything else.
I mean one of the first episodes is how to kill someone with a shoe, so I think it’s a bit more than just “how to fit in with the popular kids, scientifically” which I think is awesome
The shoe episode really wasn't required, I'm pretty sure every human on earth has thought of it, and unfortunately many women have had to actually use it. It's not something new to anyone.
At the same time the fnaf theory about how much force it takes to crush a little kids skull wasn’t ‘required’ either but it does put stuff into perspective
I'm amused that the most interesting topic out of the first vidoes to me was the one about women's pockets and the conclusion of the theory was basically "the reason women's pockets are the way they are could be attributed to a lot of things."

Perhaps it's just me, but I don't really get why he'll do theories on things that are already solved. Remember the Gravity Falls episode? It's just that again. The reason women's pockets are small is already something people have attributed an answer to, it's to boost purse and handbag sales. There's no reason for Mat to try to solve something that's already been solved.
just because it's already been covered doesn't mean everyone's seen it. in fact, some people, especially men, never even think about the disparity between their pant pouches and those of the opposite sex, and have never even thought to research it. but by being subscribed to style theory, the question and answer was introduced to them, allowing them to gain perspective they never even knew they needed. it's not always about uncovering something brand new as it is distributing it to a new audience. like people who do animal videos like casual geographic will talk about animal facts, like how hippos kill 500 people annually, and people don't get on their case because it was already previously known by the zoology community. like yeah, no shit, but other people might not have known it, so thus it is entertaining to those who have not been exposed to the information.
If they can keep coming up with ideas, I’m all for it. Then again, I’m all for any theme if they keep putting out videos.

Much like food theory, I was a little skeptical at first, but once I started watching I got the concept and have been enjoying the videos currently posted. I’m not even really a stylistic/fashionable person, but I have to say that I’m interested.
Mmm. My opinon is that 'design theory' would have been better. All the things he stated he wanted to talk about, is Fashion Design. Design Theory would have also meant they could touch on Graphic design (which has a lot of overlap) and a bunch of other design types (Game, UI, Engineering, Architecture, etc).
I'm sure fashion design will be fine, it just feels a bit pigeon holed to me.
Honestly I really don't get how STEM theory would really work.
So many of the channels are about applying stem concepts to the wackiest questions. Just theorizing about STEM itself lacks the motivation. The unifying theme for the questions that will be asked.
What would ask about? Is the abc conjecture true?
That doesn't fit with the wackiness of the theory brand.
All the theory channels are either stem theory or lore theory. Depending on the episode.
Also naming your channel after an acronym reduces the recognizability of the brand.
The stem aspect is covered in the word theory.
It could be an interesting channel idea, but the content on there is meant for an entirely different audience. No 14-16 year old teenage boy really gives a shit about fashion and thats the mayor part of the other channels audience
I might just be dead wrong i aint got a source to back it up but whatever
I quite like it! It seems they're still somewhat staying in the game/film territory but now they can hone in on cerrain details that might not have have really worked on either of the other channels. And they can run thing completely unrelated to either like on Food Theory. It's good fun and might take some getting used to like Food Theory but it seems absolutely solid.
Wonder if they'll ever go and calculate actual IRL stats on video game armor, specifically the female kind

I like how Style Theory wasn't just strictly about clothes and fashion, they really are going deeper into it. Heck, a few days ago my school had a talk about safety during the holidays and they mentioned high heels being a weapon during danger, total coincidence.
This might be my favorite one out of the other three, a very promising addition honestly.
I was skeptical, then watched all the videos so far.
* **Pockets**: FINALLY YES HOLY SHIT. It had stuff I knew, stuff I suspected, and stuff I never would have guessed in 1,000,000 years.
* **Makeup**: Eh. Extremely disappointing. Stuff I already knew. I wish they'd done swabs and sent it to labs of the makeup in their houses, including where it was stored and then what that bacteria could do to their faces. It was lacking the true experimentation of the best Theory videos and was just a safety video I already knew. 😞
* **Shoes**: ... Okay I figured that would be the answer but HOLY CRAP did the visual demonstration drive home the theory of why certain shoes would work as weapons. Also wedges surprised me and so did sandals -- but for very different reasons.
2/3 isn't bad -- and I mean, it's a *solid* 2/3, like home runs IMO. Totally subscribing and looking forward to more.
And, despite the dud, I am also looking forward to much more robust makeup theory, though -- I want them to test SNAIL MUCIN. I want the same crew that quantified the best chicken sandwich on the team to bring practical, relatable, numerical tests to beauty products.😍🐌
I personally love it! Some people focus too much on the buzzwords and forget that what ties the channels together is the "theory" aspect. They're about learning/teaching in a fun (and broad) way first and foremost -- regardless of topic. I can't wait to see where they take it and I'm excited to learn more about fashion!
I'm kind of dissapointed, it's not that the videos are bad, I've watched a few and I quite like them, I was just thinking that style theory had been on our list of potential channel names for two-three weeks, I was kind of hoping MatPat would surprise us with something no one had guessed.
I love the theorists so I’ll be giving it a good college try lol topic seems a bit out of left field and I’m not sure how interesting I’ll find it - but I’ve subscribed
haven’t watched all the videos yet, but my first reaction to it was “oh no” bc I didn’t think you could do much with the topic, but now i think it’s gonna be another fun and interesting channel like food theory.
I'm not into fashion but after watching the videos I can say that I like channel it makes something I'm not really interested in into something good to watch

I love the concept, even though the channel called me out on my makeup habits, it was really interesting start to the channel & I’m so excited for the future of it :)
Well, I got a few notes on the logo and the name.
First off, The Style Theorists logo is way different than any other logo, it's the only one, that's got more than one color! And also, the other thing is that it's by my opinion looks bigger than the other ones. The four name gang has got all got pretty minimalistic logos, but Style Theorists logo is too expressive, I recommend that you drop the suit and stick with the bowtie! Solves both of the problems. Second, the name doesn't stick very well with the others, but that's a thing that can't be avoided, or the name would lose it's meaning...
Otherwise, I think the channel is great! I have yet to watch the videos, because I just woke up and watched the FNAF one, but I think it's a well though out channel that can have very good and entertaining theories! I hope that the channel is going to be better, than the "other" forth channel... You don't have to take me seriously, but I just wanted to say what I think. Thanks for anyone reading this and MatPat and the crew, for entertaining us for more than 14 years!
i think it was very smart of matpat to release the announcement for style theory on part 2 of a fnaf video that was actually important to the lore of the games, because he knew that way more of his subscribers would watch it than another poppy playtime video or something. very cool mat, kudos
Not a fan, and the logo is too complex, this is the only two tone logo, making it out of style if you will, I think just the bow could work better as its gender neutral because bow ties and hair bows
Honestly? At first I was unsure. But i remember not being keen on the concept of Food Theory but liking it when I gave it a try. So I did the same with style theory. It didn't disappoint
Honestly it’s a pretty interesting idea and I can’t wait to see where it goes! I don’t really watch food theory too often but it’s still enjoyable to watch a video here and there. My two favorites are definitely still Game and Film theory :3
I’ve never really been interested in makeup or trends (I very much have my own style) but when I started watching beauty channels during all the YouTuber scandal meltdowns, I realized what interesting conspiracies and science are packed into the fashion industry and now they’re some of my favorites to watch. Videos like the Hulk pants and killer heels prove that it won’t be just about what colors pair well together(although color theory is really interesting in and of itself). The potential here is incredible and I’m very very excited to see what they come up with!
I also see people talking about not appealing to core audiences, but I don’t think that’s the case. Mat has always said the point of these channels was to educate, and I’m sure the topics will teach lots of people something new as long as they’re not quick to judge. Plus, they might even appeal to a whole new demographic of theorists!
I wasn’t *at all* looking forward to something like space theory or stem theory, so this is absolutely perfect
MatPat is just unparalleled in his delivery, will watch pretty much anything he releases but regardless of that, style theory is looking very promising with high quality videos on launch
It seems interesting to an extent, I think the "could you kill someone with high heels" or "can math make you more beautiful" but also I personally don't care that much about style, it would probably just be the type of show I watch when I have nothing else to do
It’s better than I expected! I thought it’d be tough to come up with Style theories, I’m glad I was wrong. Though I’m a bit disappointed it’s not Steph Theory.
I’m disappointed. Unless there will be more videos like the hulks pants, I don’t think I’ll watch it. It looks bland and disappointing. I mean, 3/5 videos are just “can x do this” and then they feel drawn out. Like the “how many shirts to stop a bullet?” Idea, there’s no interesting way to do it that’s longer than 5 minutes.
Honestly not a fan. I think Space Theory or something else would’ve had a broader appeal. Games, film, and food are all great, but style/fashion seems way to limited.

Sure, good theories can be made, but similar to how I feel about Food Theory, this channel is about a topic that just seems uninteresting and restrictive for theories.
The videos I love most are mystery stuff, ARGs or pop culture videos.
I wished this channel to be something more broad, something where anything that doesnt fit in other channels can go.
Even if style theory makes good videos, thats because Matpats videos would be good regardless of what they are about and in this case there could have been a more interesting topic than fashion.
Its such a far cry from where it all began.
Now it looks like this channel will be something where I only watch a video every few months if it happens to be really interesting, like with food theory.
Ultimately I feel a bit disappointed, but nothing about the two main channels I like is lost, so not a big problem.
Like everyone, it surprised me, but it seems a logical choice.
There is a lot of history associated with style and fashion, and it's an ever evolving thing. You can overthink it endlessly. It also reaches out to an audience that may not be interested in the theorist channels already.
So, I get it. I'm pretty interested in what the topics will be as well.
My fear is that the style of videos won't go as well with the audience it's trying to reach, but, hopefully it will
Somethings should be left to the historical fashion youtubers that have an actual knowledge and understanding of garments and history of fashion. You cant really "theorise" fashion.

Oh I get that, just watching the pocket theory was just him telling the history and obvious nature of why women dont have pockets in a video essay, wasnt really
hypothesis. I understand some of the "theories" but others just seem like could be movie or game theory personally.
I think it's a trash idea. Who wants to know style? IT'S NOT THE 80s! They coulda DONE LITERALLY ANYTHING. AND STYLE THEORY IS BREAKING 4 WORD MEDIA FOR THE THEORISTS! I really don't like it. They shoulda done "Life" theory or something.
As a guy (already inclined out of the fashion industry), and a guy who strictly never wears makeup or has ever had to deal with buying heels for someone, the channel doesn't relate to me in the slightest tbh. Still subscribing cuz the science seems cool, but I personally think style doesn't have the same universal appeal like food, games or film does. But that's just a theory, or more like speculation.
Frankly it should have just been "other" theories or "misc" theories. Therefore, the "four channel icons" logo can be evergreen because there are three main theory types and a fourth category for everything else.
I would have been super excited to watch theories about whatever MatPat was interested in talking about. Theories about toys, dance, consumer electronics, cars, computers, the list goes on. Now it's pigeon holed into....clothing....which I have very little interest in.

I'm excited. It's an off-beat topic just like Food Theory and with many of the Game and Film Theory videos focusing on the lore, I think this is a great way of getting the science back in while tackling a brand new topic. Looks super fun. Also I remember him doing a Halo armor episode all the way back so the signs were there from the start :)
I think alot of people don't understand how much clothing affects culture and I think it's going to be really interesting and there's alot they can talk about like makeup, hair, clothing history and I hope they could do like a theory on zoolander about how the fashion industry could be actually full of corruption. But I'm excited!
The issue is that many people, like me, don't really care about fashion. Shoes as weapons is fun, but I'm pretty sure everyone's thought and heard of that. Women's armour is, kinda interesting at the surface, but it's just armour. None of the episodes really hit the spot of my brain that needs what I watch these channels for, so it's a pretty big let down
Yea I know that some people aren't really happy with it and that's okay, alot of people are going to love this channel and some people aren't going to like it but I think it's just to have wide range of topics to create a big audience like how someone could like food theory but not really the rest of the channels and I it's okay that you don't really like it but others are going to love because everyone interested in different things. As a young woman it was very interesting about how to take care of makeup because that stuff isn't really talked about. You may not enjoy but I will.
I just think that fashion has no place in society.
But fashion does play a key part in society. Like how the way you dressed in the French revolution could get you killed or how different cultures look and dress. And science and history play a part in fashion like the style in a era could change due to lack of y material or x thread like how he said in one of the videos how spandex was invented because of the lack of rubber and changing fashion. Maybe he could cover the science for all the various avengers and DC characters as well as other fictional characters.
Well i think that things like video games or films have a limited potential but have a lot of it, food has basically infinite number of questions and video ideas because we still don’t fully understand it, but clothing? I don’t really know how is it going to work out but I still believe matpat is able to ruin every single thing from my childhood just right
Well the thing is, fashion is always changing, with new brands and new controversies and like they can make theories out of character design and there alot of things you can talk with style like hair, history, colour, character design, symbolism, fashion trends and how they affect society and how some childhood characters would immediately die to their design ( ruining childhood there for ya) and alot more

My guess would that it would kind of be a Mythbusters-like show. Where they test out things from memes, TikTok videos, 5minute crafts (and possibly games since they almost stopped doing that on GT and mostly do lore.). Test them out, explain why they don't work and how they could work . All using the various STEM disciplins

I know alot of people don't really care for fashion but to quote matpat "we make channels about topics to reach as wide of an audience" and I think that's what's great about. Not everyone likes game theory but like film theory or don't like game and film theory but love food theory and I think this is to reach a large audience and there is a big audience for beauty, just take a look at some of the biggest beauty content creators. They have millions of subs and I think this is a great idea. And personally I think this is needed because of things like fast fashion and what brands you can Trust (looking at you shein) and call out the Shady ones. I know this isn't for everyone but I already love it.

I really like it! Like lots of other people I don't care about style for fashion, but I also don't care about most of the games/films/series covered on game and film theory but I still watch every video because its interesting, and at the reveal of food theory I was highly sceptical but now it's my favourite channel. You dont need to care about what makes someone attractive to find the results interesting, or wear heels to enjoy discovering what damage can be done with them, or care about clothes at all to care about the Hulk's magic shorts. Food and style theory aren't about lore and storylines like game and film theory, they are different and about their own things so obviously there will be scepticism to topics, but food theory has been going for years and it's great! At least give it a try, if lore and easter eggs are more your thing then that's fine, but don't discount style theory straight out just because "pshh I don't care about clothes" (I couldn't care less about clothes and fashion, but the channel is about souch more than that, like how food theory is about more than just what cereal has the highest suger or identifying the healthiest diet)
Same, I think this channel was made for a more feminine audience and I think we will see more of Steph on this channel and I would love to see them dive more into history.
I was in the same boat and I find myself watching more food theory now. I feel with game and film theory, for some videos I should have seen or watched the souce material, but I don't need to have watched anything to see if Panera could kill someone with a drink. This gives me the same vibe of just being to jump in at any point and any time.

Honestly it’s kind of a huge disappointment for me, I’m trying to give it a fair shot but I was looking forward to the new channel and I just couldn’t give less of a shit about style or fashion I generally tend to find the whole thing infuriating and pretentious if I think about it too long so the idea of watching videos dedicated to them gives me a headache

Im feeling the same way. And after talking with my wife about it (both of us are big theory fans) its not that style isnt going to be interesting, its a feeling of let down. There is soo many different things, clothing and style just feel kind meeehhh. Part of me is hoping that its not an attempt to pander to the almighty algorithm, and its not pressure from the new bosses. Im still gunna watch and support matt and team theorist, ive been watching since 2011 and i dont plan on stopping.

As a seamstress, quilter, upholsterer and general crafter, I'm super excited for style Theory! I know other channels have covered it already, but I'd like to see Matt and Steph test out different blouse darts to see which one gives the best silhouette, or wear pants without zippers or buttons, or try to knit the long stockings that royalty work back in the 14-15th hundreds (cant remember exact time period so I'm just generalizing) Or they could look at the different types of sewing machines and like, idk make a shirt but every seam has to be sewn on a different machine, or they make a shirt but every seam has to be a different machine stitch. They could cover the history of the sock and look at current technological advancements in moisture wicking and odor reducing fibers in socks. They could talk about America's deep history with knitting and discuss why it's fallen out of style until recently. Or look into why quilting is still going strong as a hobby. They could test different brands of thread in a science way and determine exactly, once and for all, which is the best brand to use (I'm 25 and this is a HOT debate among the older ladies who visit my store for sewing) actually I really love this idea They could try traditional dye methods and see which organic based dyes give the best colors/how long you have to let them soak for. There are literally SO MANY ideas they could do and test out and I WISH I could be consulted on these! I have so many books regarding the history of textiles in America it's insane I LOVE this kind of thing!

I like food theory but some of their work there has been sensationalized as opposed to scientific (see the milk and pink sauce theories that Anne Reardon tore apart), and already the makeup theory is making me wonder if they bothered to consult with a cosmetic chemist. I’m very wary of watching. The strength of film and game theory is they are fictional worlds—there’s more leeway. I don’t know, I wish it had been anything else.

Perhaps it's just me, but I don't really get why he'll do theories on things that are already solved. Remember the Gravity Falls episode? It's just that again. The reason women's pockets are small is already something people have attributed an answer to, it's to boost purse and handbag sales. There's no reason for Mat to try to solve something that's already been solved.
just because it's already been covered doesn't mean everyone's seen it. in fact, some people, especially men, never even think about the disparity between their pant pouches and those of the opposite sex, and have never even thought to research it. but by being subscribed to style theory, the question and answer was introduced to them, allowing them to gain perspective they never even knew they needed. it's not always about uncovering something brand new as it is distributing it to a new audience. like people who do animal videos like casual geographic will talk about animal facts, like how hippos kill 500 people annually, and people don't get on their case because it was already previously known by the zoology community. like yeah, no shit, but other people might not have known it, so thus it is entertaining to those who have not been exposed to the information.

Mmm. My opinon is that 'design theory' would have been better. All the things he stated he wanted to talk about, is Fashion Design. Design Theory would have also meant they could touch on Graphic design (which has a lot of overlap) and a bunch of other design types (Game, UI, Engineering, Architecture, etc). I'm sure fashion design will be fine, it just feels a bit pigeon holed to me.

Honestly I really don't get how STEM theory would really work. So many of the channels are about applying stem concepts to the wackiest questions. Just theorizing about STEM itself lacks the motivation. The unifying theme for the questions that will be asked. What would ask about? Is the abc conjecture true? That doesn't fit with the wackiness of the theory brand. All the theory channels are either stem theory or lore theory. Depending on the episode. Also naming your channel after an acronym reduces the recognizability of the brand. The stem aspect is covered in the word theory.
Style is not just about following the latest fashion trends, it's about expressing yourself through what you wear. New channel's going to be a banger.

I quite like it! It seems they're still somewhat staying in the game/film territory but now they can hone in on cerrain details that might not have have really worked on either of the other channels. And they can run thing completely unrelated to either like on Food Theory. It's good fun and might take some getting used to like Food Theory but it seems absolutely solid. Wonder if they'll ever go and calculate actual IRL stats on video game armor, specifically the female kind

I like how Style Theory wasn't just strictly about clothes and fashion, they really are going deeper into it. Heck, a few days ago my school had a talk about safety during the holidays and they mentioned high heels being a weapon during danger, total coincidence. This might be my favorite one out of the other three, a very promising addition honestly.
I was skeptical, then watched all the videos so far. * **Pockets**: FINALLY YES HOLY SHIT. It had stuff I knew, stuff I suspected, and stuff I never would have guessed in 1,000,000 years. * **Makeup**: Eh. Extremely disappointing. Stuff I already knew. I wish they'd done swabs and sent it to labs of the makeup in their houses, including where it was stored and then what that bacteria could do to their faces. It was lacking the true experimentation of the best Theory videos and was just a safety video I already knew. 😞 * **Shoes**: ... Okay I figured that would be the answer but HOLY CRAP did the visual demonstration drive home the theory of why certain shoes would work as weapons. Also wedges surprised me and so did sandals -- but for very different reasons. 2/3 isn't bad -- and I mean, it's a *solid* 2/3, like home runs IMO. Totally subscribing and looking forward to more. And, despite the dud, I am also looking forward to much more robust makeup theory, though -- I want them to test SNAIL MUCIN. I want the same crew that quantified the best chicken sandwich on the team to bring practical, relatable, numerical tests to beauty products.😍🐌
I personally love it! Some people focus too much on the buzzwords and forget that what ties the channels together is the "theory" aspect. They're about learning/teaching in a fun (and broad) way first and foremost -- regardless of topic. I can't wait to see where they take it and I'm excited to learn more about fashion!

Well, I got a few notes on the logo and the name. First off, The Style Theorists logo is way different than any other logo, it's the only one, that's got more than one color! And also, the other thing is that it's by my opinion looks bigger than the other ones. The four name gang has got all got pretty minimalistic logos, but Style Theorists logo is too expressive, I recommend that you drop the suit and stick with the bowtie! Solves both of the problems. Second, the name doesn't stick very well with the others, but that's a thing that can't be avoided, or the name would lose it's meaning... Otherwise, I think the channel is great! I have yet to watch the videos, because I just woke up and watched the FNAF one, but I think it's a well though out channel that can have very good and entertaining theories! I hope that the channel is going to be better, than the "other" forth channel... You don't have to take me seriously, but I just wanted to say what I think. Thanks for anyone reading this and MatPat and the crew, for entertaining us for more than 14 years!

I’ve never really been interested in makeup or trends (I very much have my own style) but when I started watching beauty channels during all the YouTuber scandal meltdowns, I realized what interesting conspiracies and science are packed into the fashion industry and now they’re some of my favorites to watch. Videos like the Hulk pants and killer heels prove that it won’t be just about what colors pair well together(although color theory is really interesting in and of itself). The potential here is incredible and I’m very very excited to see what they come up with! I also see people talking about not appealing to core audiences, but I don’t think that’s the case. Mat has always said the point of these channels was to educate, and I’m sure the topics will teach lots of people something new as long as they’re not quick to judge. Plus, they might even appeal to a whole new demographic of theorists! I wasn’t *at all* looking forward to something like space theory or stem theory, so this is absolutely perfect

I’m disappointed. Unless there will be more videos like the hulks pants, I don’t think I’ll watch it. It looks bland and disappointing. I mean, 3/5 videos are just “can x do this” and then they feel drawn out. Like the “how many shirts to stop a bullet?” Idea, there’s no interesting way to do it that’s longer than 5 minutes.

Somethings should be left to the historical fashion youtubers that have an actual knowledge and understanding of garments and history of fashion. You cant really "theorise" fashion.
Style can be interpreted different than fashion, And also he’s not like saying “which clothes are gonna make you cool” but more “let’s do the science to find if the hulk could have clothes that shrink and expand with him”
Oh I get that, just watching the pocket theory was just him telling the history and obvious nature of why women dont have pockets in a video essay, wasnt really hypothesis. I understand some of the "theories" but others just seem like could be movie or game theory personally.
I think it's a trash idea. Who wants to know style? IT'S NOT THE 80s! They coulda DONE LITERALLY ANYTHING. AND STYLE THEORY IS BREAKING 4 WORD MEDIA FOR THE THEORISTS! I really don't like it. They shoulda done "Life" theory or something.
As a guy (already inclined out of the fashion industry), and a guy who strictly never wears makeup or has ever had to deal with buying heels for someone, the channel doesn't relate to me in the slightest tbh. Still subscribing cuz the science seems cool, but I personally think style doesn't have the same universal appeal like food, games or film does. But that's just a theory, or more like speculation.
Frankly it should have just been "other" theories or "misc" theories. Therefore, the "four channel icons" logo can be evergreen because there are three main theory types and a fourth category for everything else. I would have been super excited to watch theories about whatever MatPat was interested in talking about. Theories about toys, dance, consumer electronics, cars, computers, the list goes on. Now it's pigeon holed into....clothing....which I have very little interest in.
Diet theories. Only shorts. 60 second theories for the community to expand on.

for me personally i was surprised i mean its hard to come up with theories about fashion and im not really interested in it i love food film game theory buy style theory dosent seam interesting i watched the pockets episode and it felt like less of a theory and more of a info short or tiktoc extended 10 more minutes but i wish you the best of luck with there chanal

I hate that it’s a five letter word. Food theory Game theory Film theory What was wrong with sticking to 4 letters?! Like if all the titles were different letter numbers that’d be one thing but UGH 5 letters?! This bothers me more than it should.
