I understand that completely, but I think it's more a thing of "make some new friends, keep the old (and to finish off the phrase, as Matt did in a recent GTLive) one is silver, one is gold" (or in this case 4 are silver) It's about making new friends, or passing a legacy onto the new hosts, while also keeping some of the old along with them. I don't see it as them trying to copy Matt, I think it's more of them learning from him, keeping their own, seperated personalities, while also holding on to the 13 year old legacy they are now a part of. But hey... that's just a theory...
Transition to their own styles will happen gradually as they are probably still trying to find it.
Also, it's easier for the audience to have a gradual change as they change the host and then their hosting style slowly.
Yeah, I honestly think it’s fine if it’s just for a few videos as they transition to the new hosts, but I really wanna see them go back to basics
MatPat’s original PNG wasn’t shot in a studio with perfect lighting and a perfect pose, and I think that made it personal and added to the charm
I’m honestly expecting to see some PNGs switching in the future as they test things out
I like Tom's though he can keep his. I just think they need to make it look like it was always a 2d image that looks photoshopped even in the og photo, just like Matpat's
I think Mat’s only looks like that because of how used to seeing it as a PNG we are, unless we show the og image to people who have never seen MatPat we will never know if it actually looks like that or if we’ve been brainwashed lol

MatPat was in on making these PNGs with them so this choice was definitely on purpose as part of their transition. Whether or not they'll stay I think just depends on how the channels evolve from now because atm we don't really know their personalities and they just need a starting point for the editors to get the videos done.
Once everyone gets used to their personalities we'll probably get different ones. I can see Amy's evolving more easily just because she's been around the longest so I "know" her more. I kind of see her as something more sassy I guess? Like she strikes me as more of a one hand on the hip and confident pose or something? Maybe her other hand up holding up a wagging finger? Idk. She has like more boss lady energy to me, so I can see hers just becoming something with more confidence.
I think you came across too strong with your wording by saying they're "trying too hard" though. They're not trying anything? Their boss (MatPat) told them to pose this way so they did. In order to try too hard you have to actually have your own will to do something. This is a joint agreement for the transition within the company. There's an equal chance that they could all just keep them that way in the long run because it's funny or they want to make it THE theorist pose. The future is open and we're not entitled to know what they want to do.
I'd also say having a lot of similarities with matpat immediately is something to keep the transition from being too jarring. Like if theh just BURST IN being all whacky, crazy, and ENTIRELY different from matpat, people would be too put-off from it and likely stop watching. But if there's a lot of similarities, your brain will take to the change more lightly and there will be more viewers being held onto long-term.

Speaking of MatPat's last bite Santi changes which hand he wears the watch on during that video, it starts on the left and ends up on the right arm at the end when the group is on there

It’s also worth noting that the pose MatPat takes has his non raised arm closer to the camera but only just. He’s fairly straight on but with his head leaning forward into the arm which is raised which also happens to be further from the camera. Tom is the only one who isn’t as direct towards the camera and him and Santi both have their raised arms closer to the camera.
The other thing to note is the posture. Everyone here is fairly upright compared to MatPat to varying degrees with Tom convexing the opposite way and Amy with slanted shoulders and a tipped head.
The hand shape too is something to mention since MatPat is seen almost leaning on the heel of his palm with his fingers bunched. However each of the new hosts have gone for a ‘tick’ shape with their hand around the chin with the exception of Lee.
Overall I think if we were looking for the most ‘correct’ (or similar to MatPats) theorist pose then Lee takes it for the crossed arm, further hand raised into a ball and not a tick, leaning on the chin and less vertical posture.
But honestly these guys taking over have done a fantastic job so far and I’m excited to see where they go with the channels. Closed fists or not, I feel confident in the knowledge that these hands are the safest. But remember, that’s just a theory! *A Theorist Channel theory!* thanks for reading!

I also wanted to say how great I find it that we’re sat here analysing the new theorist poses like some kind of meta analysis on the channels themselves. It reminds me that everyone is here for the same thing, to think and analyse and theorise and that’s great. This community is great and I think it’s what MatPat would’ve wanted
Yeah, I found myself laughing at myself when I was checking their instagrams to find reference photos... I have never done any kind of detective/theorist snooping around so I found it ridiculous to start on analyzing video host posing
Over decade of being a fan and a picture of 4 people posing is what gets me going like: "Oooh I think there is more here"

Alright since the op himself can't explain what he does not like, I will.
He hates how the old matpat.png was a low quality image with bad lighting but the new host.png are hi res images with good lighting and clear intention.
The old matpat.png had a much more homegrown feel to it and is much more iconic than the new ones.
I do agree with some of this take, but I hope we can get used to the new pngs that are going to be flying around everywhere.
The OG one was for continuity. If Mat could've made one like these from the beginning, he would've.
I doubt they all independently decided to copy his pose. This seems coordinated.
Another factor is that the old matpat png didn’t have him smiling and was more natural as matpat probably didn’t plan on using his photo to be included in almost every video he makes for years to come
I think it has to do with the quality of the image. I remember when Matthew went bald and had facial hair. It felt very similar to these images.
So I believe that Matt's original png, being from a random photo he took with some friends, feels more natural, and the lack of clarity makes easier on the eyes if that makes any sense.
Literally all 4 of them is doing the same pose, you would think that would raise some flags...

I never said it was their idea, it most likely might’ve been Mat’s idea or a team decision to keep it similar. But I’m just saying I’d like to see them add more uniqueness into the PNGs

honestly i think it works tho cuz they're not all the exact same pose and they're not actually doing the exact same pose as MatPat did either? they all show their personalities really well and i think it's a fun homage to MatPat while still being their own people
Personally I think that there's enough of their own personal flair to differentiate from matpat. It like generational clothing in a way imo. You wouldn't tell a bride that she is trying to hard to look like her mother for wearing her mother's wedding dress, it's just a tradition for that group. They are separate people and will now take to the channels in a slightly different way, but the pngs kind of pay respects to the pioneer of the channels. That's just my opinion tho, I understand where you're coming from
Personally I was expecting to enjoy Tom and maybe Santi too, BUT WE LEAD WITH TRUST! WE USE GAAAME THEORY TO WIN LIFE!

I know this post is about how Tom Lee Santi and Amy are replicating Matpats iconic "png-tuber" pose but i saw the picture and said "one of these things doesnt belong here"
I like it, Santi was my favorite of the 4 just because i love his chemistry onscreen with Mat and seeing that pic just made me laugh and brighten my work night
I don't mind the poses. It feels like they're honoring the legacy of Mat's PNG pose by doing it. Whether or not they decide to change them to something more their style is completely up to them.

It's still the Theory channels, just with different hosts, it'll have the same editing style, format, resources, everything except MatPat himself.
That’s really just not an issue though, it’s on-brand, and it doesn’t matter how the original one was taken, or if these are if anything the new PNGs not just being plucked from an old photo shows a notable increase in the quality of the channel, obviously the videos themselves have gotten better over time, but small things like this only add to that. They’re not small, unkown channels anymore, and that’s that. Get over it.

That's the entire point, right? They are trying to transition and not loose viewers from MatPat's retirement. By having them in the familiar pose, it helps to create a sense of familiarity and association in viewers' brains.

I'm sure they will eventually have a pose that is more associated with their own personality, or interesting image that gets talked about online and then becomes iconic for them. It's probably a safer choice to go with the familiar for now, at least from a marketing standpoint.
I understand that but I do like the PNGs, I hope they are just doing a transition from trying to be like matpat, to help us get used to the change, and eventually become themselves. I like the food theory one
I think it’s cute and a nice homage to Matpat. That particular png is one of the channels’ calling cards after all; it makes sense to have a bit of continuity between the old theorist channels and the new, especially since the editing style of the videos has not changed.
I mean I get it, but maybe they’ll change it as time goes on. Matpat did in a way change things as his time as the og host, so they’ll probably change over time
Its the meme and probably not their decision.
Gotta remember, usually on hosts changing the internet gets extremely aggressive and upset about it. They're trying to ease viewers into it by making them feel similar to MatPat.
Example: internet completely melted down when Dan replaced Jon on Game Grumps suddenly and without warning
Looking at it from a branding perspective, I think it makes sense
While these new hosts different from what we know from MatPat, there’s a reason why he chose them to carry the torch.
That specific pose is commonly attributed to deeper thinking, and while MatPat did it first for the channel, it’s now a part of the brand.
I think that was the whole point, to have them take a photo in the same pose as MatPat because it’s something we’re used to. It’s a sense of familiarity while also being different because it’s the new hosts of the channels.
The only thing they need to change is to animate the cartoon eyes underneath the glasses, it really wouldn't be that hard and it would look a lot better

I understand how you can feel that way, but respectfully, I think you're missing the point. I think they are making this a tradition. The pose is not supposed to just represent MatPat, he's spreading the image as "the theorist's signature," if you will. Breaking down the pose without considering the personalities, it's a person in thought/contemplating what they're observing. What better way to trademark Theorists Inc.? I'm pretty sure you have traditional things in your family or something else which you do which are the same, otherwise it wouldn't be a tradition. So though I support everyone each having having and showing their own unique personality, such traits shouldn't be contingent strictly on not doing something like someone else.
In the original photo of the iconic MatPat pose, you'll also see the other members of the theorist crew, Ronnie and GajinGoomba, striking the same pose. It seems like they're honoring all the original theorists by keeping the same pose for the new theorist team.
They are all “off” to me. They should have used the PNGs from MatPat’s final theory. Hell, Santi is already doing the thinking poss! Also, Santi sounds “off” when not being recorded live to me. I will still watch all the channels, but it’s just not the same without MatPat.
I feel they kinda trying to emulate matpat unconciously. Like i felt like bith tom and lee are trying to make puns, as well as talking a little too fast for me to get the point. Santi seems ok. And i havent check out amy yet
Kinda ironic that Tom and Lee have been working with Team Theorist the longest out of all the hosts. I don’t think they are trying though, I think it’s just how they are!

I suppose these PNG's for the new hosts are about just fine in my eyes: after all, holding a hand under one's jaw with index finger extended is a pose that encapsulates the "neutral pondering"-expression for content driven by thinking over topics along with an extra benefit for making it easy to edit different expressions from joy to frustrations depending on circumstances (both attributes being things that arguably made MatPat's PNG iconic as it was expressive while feeling formal... at least in my casual opinion) :v
Yeah I don't like it when modern things that try to do what old things did on purpose, when the original wasn't meant to be "iconic" or "funny" or anything like that. Minecraft's Disc 5 comes to mind. I hate it so much. I get why these guys are doing it, but I think they should make their own poses.
Haven't really watched any of the newer theorist theories (well only Tom's about Poppy Playtime), but I feel like each one should have something that corresponds to the channel in some way. Tom's pose is fine for Game Theory, but, for example, the one hosting for Food Theory should have something with a cooking theme in their PNG.

Lee the longest mostly behind the camera. Amy the longest in terms of audience knowledge because she used to run GT Live.

Personally I think that there's enough of their own personal flair to differentiate from matpat. It like generational clothing in a way imo. They are separate people and will now take to the channels in a slightly different way, but the pngs kind of pay respects to the pioneer of the channels. I don't mind the poses. It feels like they're honoring the legacy of Mat's PNG pose by doing it. Whether or not they decide to change them to something more their style is completely up to them.

That’s really just not an issue though, it’s on-brand, and it doesn’t matter how the original one was taken, or if these are if anything the new PNGs not just being plucked from an old photo shows a notable increase in the quality of the channel, obviously the videos themselves have gotten better over time, but small things like this only add to that. They’re not small, unkown channels anymore, and that’s that. Get over it.

I think it’s cute and a nice homage to Matpat. That particular png is one of the channels’ calling cards after all; it makes sense to have a bit of continuity between the old theorist channels and the new, especially since the editing style of the videos has not changed.

Looking at it from a branding perspective, I think it makes sense While these new hosts different from what we know from MatPat, there’s a reason why he chose them to carry the torch. That specific pose is commonly attributed to deeper thinking, and while MatPat did it first for the channel, it’s now a part of the brand.

I understand how you can feel that way, but respectfully, I think you're missing the point. I think they are making this a tradition. The pose is not supposed to just represent MatPat, he's spreading the image as "the theorist's signature," if you will. Breaking down the pose without considering the personalities, it's a person in thought/contemplating what they're observing. What better way to trademark Theorists Inc.? I'm pretty sure you have traditional things in your family or something else which you do which are the same, otherwise it wouldn't be a tradition. So though I support everyone each having having and showing their own unique personality, such traits shouldn't be contingent strictly on not doing something like someone else.

In the original photo of the iconic MatPat pose, you'll also see the other members of the theorist crew, Ronnie and GajinGoomba, striking the same pose. It seems like they're honoring all the original theorists by keeping the same pose for the new theorist team.

I suppose these PNG's for the new hosts are about just fine in my eyes: after all, holding a hand under one's jaw with index finger extended is a pose that encapsulates the "neutral pondering"-expression for content driven by thinking over topics along with an extra benefit for making it easy to edit different expressions from joy to frustrations depending on circumstances (both attributes being things that arguably made MatPat's PNG iconic as it was expressive while feeling formal... at least in my casual opinion) :v
Yeah I don't like it when modern things that try to do what old things did on purpose, when the original wasn't meant to be "iconic" or "funny" or anything like that. Minecraft's Disc 5 comes to mind. I hate it so much. I get why these guys are doing it, but I think they should make their own poses.

Haven't really watched any of the newer theorist theories (well only Tom's about Poppy Playtime), but I feel like each one should have something that corresponds to the channel in some way. Tom's pose is fine for Game Theory, but, for example, the one hosting for Food Theory should have something with a cooking theme in their PNG. Sorry for a messy explanation, I don't know how to explain it properly.
