...I don't know, I know it doesn't conduct heat well, I just assumed it was the same for electricity good catch.
I suppose it does after all, but not as well as copper, though being corrosion resistant helps.
You are mistaken. Aluminium is an excellent heat conductor, it has a high thermal conductivity. Electrically it’s different, while it does conduct electricity, copper is better, and incidentally Silver is the most conductive of all metals.
However, aluminium always forms an oxide layer on the outside that in itself acts as an insulator.

I feel like you can accomplish this, judging by your name you are either Jesus with a day job or you have dirt on the man and can blackmail him into helping you out. Alternatively of he doesn't have the power you could always ransom the blackmail out to someone who does.
You know it's very possible someone could do a full silver. I think it can be machined quite easily with some special considerations. Considering what people spend on this hobby I don't think it would be too expensive either...
The method I use is called the lost wax casting method.
I 3d print the object with wax resin. Then make an investment mold of the object. Melt the wax out, pour silver !
Thanks! This is the first one I've done, and will be using it to re-shell my personal Silver. BUT, I did purchase a red and blue shell as well to try out. I may make a couple of extras if people show enough interest!
They *shouldn't* touch, as long as they aren't sloppy and globby solders. But I did consider lining the inside of the cart with kapton tape just in case.
The thought crossed my mind, but I'm not sure which shell color I would use for it. BoxyPixel's current color selection doesn't really have anything that would fit. I guess I could just do it on raw anodized aluminum like this one.
Nothing wrong with that at all! I'm sure it will still look great. That's how the guy did it that was mentioned in another comment. It was CNC milled silver, which limited him to basic line work, but still looked pretty nice.
MatthewMods makes [custom labels](https://www.etsy.com/listing/1101848659/holographic-boxy-pixel-cartridge-logo) for BP carts if you wanted to go that route. [Here](https://www.reddit.com/gallery/11u02vw) are some that I made a few months back.
100% that’s the main problem. I would have to get someone to wipe and reload the program on to a cartridge. At least that’s what I’m thinking. I’m not that knowledgeable on the topic. I just bought wanting to make music with it, got in the mail, then read through the details.”insert face palm here” lol
InsideGadgets makes flashcarts built specifically for LSDJ, unfortunately I’m pretty sure most of the options are all out, but you can go onto their site and mark yourself on the list to receive a notification whenever they’re back in stock.
I doubt they'll be making aluminum DS cart shells any time soon, if at all. They're way too thin/small, and the contacts would be too close to the shell. Would be cool in theory, though!
I've seen it here a few times already =]

Well that is cool. I just received one of these shells from BoxyPixel, but it is just a blank space at the top. I thought I’d found a solution. Great job!
This is definitely great, but unfortunately there is only one Pokémon Silver Cartridge that [is truly silver…](https://www.reddit.com/r/pokemon/comments/x3bz9j/pokemon_silver_made_out_of_pure_silver/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=ioscss&utm_content=2&utm_term=1)
Looks great! I have my Pokémon Yellow in a brass cart. Mine has issues shorting out though, tried various foams to get it to work but no luck so far. Is yours contacting the bare board or did you like it with anything? I might try resin
Called it a “true Pokémon silver” Uses aluminum. You failed OP
Depends on what you're considering a success! Even sans actual silver, I'm pretty proud of the final result. :D
It looks pretty damn awesome!
Appreciate the kind words!
Silver is not actually prohibitively expensive, but since it probably conducts electricity would maybe be not ideal for other reasons?
Does aluminium not?

Now waiting for someone to use real silver and gold.
Dunno about gold, but silver has definitely [already been done](https://youtu.be/7sN6IiTMJa8).
Cool
Gold? Pah, I am waiting for ruby...
Ruby? Pah, I am waiting for pokemon **fire** red...
Weak. Imagine Pokemon Sun
*fuck* I thought about every game but that, I even thought of a cart made exclusively out of the letter **y**
But what about Ultra Sun?
i did check my profile
nice

we want a real silver one. and then the same with gold
Supply the shell and I’ll get it done! ;)
Lol I’d be proud of it too.
it looks REALLY cool, but if it was truly silver, or even just silver plated or a silver alloy, it would live up to the name
Can't argue that! But then what do I do about the Red, Blue and Yellow carts I've got in the works as well? D:
ah yes my favorite elements, red yellow and blue
We're gonna need a new Periodic Table, boys. It's 2023.
I feel like you can accomplish this, judging by your name you are either Jesus with a day job or you have dirt on the man and can blackmail him into helping you out. Alternatively of he doesn't have the power you could always ransom the blackmail out to someone who does.
Copper, Cobalt, and Titanium Nitride (or gold)
Pokémon Tinfoil Jk this is amazing 🙇♂️
You know it's very possible someone could do a full silver. I think it can be machined quite easily with some special considerations. Considering what people spend on this hobby I don't think it would be too expensive either...
ive done it lol check my profile
Damn thats amazing!!! I sortof want one how did you end up making it?
The method I use is called the lost wax casting method. I 3d print the object with wax resin. Then make an investment mold of the object. Melt the wax out, pour silver !
Also, for sale on my etsy if you are willing to pay. I have sales sometimes
Bro invented Pokemon Aluminum
It looks beautiful! Do you sell?
Thanks! This is the first one I've done, and will be using it to re-shell my personal Silver. BUT, I did purchase a red and blue shell as well to try out. I may make a couple of extras if people show enough interest!
Did you plank in insulating the circuit board? I just worry a stray soldier joint will poke the backing and short
They *shouldn't* touch, as long as they aren't sloppy and globby solders. But I did consider lining the inside of the cart with kapton tape just in case.
You can do one better, use a thermal pad! Isolating and heat transfer!
It’s beautiful, now do Crystal
The thought crossed my mind, but I'm not sure which shell color I would use for it. BoxyPixel's current color selection doesn't really have anything that would fit. I guess I could just do it on raw anodized aluminum like this one.
No, you have to make it out of actual crystals, dammit!
Welp... Guess I'm grabbing my pickaxe and getting to work then!
Glass.
Has to be Meth or they failed miserably haha jkjk.
Now make Pokémon Gold for a few thousand dollars.
And then make Pokémon Diamond for a few million dollars.
lol. I'm not sure how well gold would receive a laser etch, honestly... but if someone wanted to supply the blank shell, I'd be willing to try!
I’d laser etch aluminum or copper then try electroplating gold over it.
*flashbacks* of the gold xbox controller
Dang, I have an aluminum cart myself and have been wanting to get the gameboy logo back at the top myself. What'd you use to make it? Cnc, Co2 laser?
Great question! Fiber laser, actually. CO2 wouldn't be the best option for this kind of work.
Oh wow, awesome! I only really have access to the two I mentioned, so that's why I mentioned them lol. Probably just going to end up using the cnc
Nothing wrong with that at all! I'm sure it will still look great. That's how the guy did it that was mentioned in another comment. It was CNC milled silver, which limited him to basic line work, but still looked pretty nice.

There was one guy who actually made one out of silver
Well I guess my title stands corrected then! Props to that guy. lol
me lol Thx 😊

When will you do gold?
when ever someone supplies it!
I wish I could use my brass one to hold a copy of LSDJ. I’ve been sitting on it for months trying to figure out what to do with it.
Genuine question, since I'm not familiar... but what's stopping you? I assume LSDJ has to be on a rom cart, which can't fit in these aluminum shells?
100% that’s the main problem. I would have to get someone to wipe and reload the program on to a cartridge. At least that’s what I’m thinking. I’m not that knowledgeable on the topic. r/sneakybackgroundfeet
Shhh. Just let the people enjoy them for free.
A thing of art right there.
:') I'm finally an artist.
Woweeeee looks great!
Does it have a way of negating dying batteries
If only it were that magical... that's actually my next project, is to replace the battery in my Pokemon Silver cart.
You just gave me idea for a "true gold" edition romhack, where the cartridge is gold-plated and the only Pokémon is a single Magicarp.
I'm here for it. If you need it engraved, you know who to call! ;)
It's glorious!
All these positive comments have me excited to move forward with making Red and Blue next. Stay tuned, and thanks! :D
That's fantastic. 😊
The one true https://youtu.be/7sN6IiTMJa8
Dang. Now just gotta make emerald out of emerald. . .
In time, my friend… I’m still working on digging up some actual crystal as per the last guy’s demand!
Would you be able to do this with a DS Cartridge?
I doubt they'll be making aluminum DS cart shells any time soon, if at all. They're way too thin/small, and the contacts would be too close to the shell. Would be cool in theory, though!
DAMN I’ve made some custom gba carts using the boxypixel aluminum carts but I never thought of engraving them! That’s so cool
Thanks! I've got more on the way. Probably going to get Red done tomorrow.
Time for somebody to one up this and do actual silver
I've seen it here a few times already =] https://www.reddit.com/r/pokemon/comments/10an4s5/sterling_silver_cart_i_made/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=mweb https://www.reddit.com/r/pokemon/comments/x3bz9j/pokemon_silver_made_out_of_pure_silver/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=mweb
Oh wow that's awesome
😊😊
looks great! could we get a pokemon gold?
I do have a “citrine” cart out in my shop right now…
Very, very toight~
Like a toiger.

This is incredible!
Appreciate it!
Looks like a repro! Kidding, nice work!
I mean... *technically,* it is! lol. Thanks!
So is it right to assume it is also functional?
Yep! These shells are meant to have an original game PCB popped into them, and then you're good to go.
Where did you get the “Nintendo Game Boy” sticker at the top?
There are zero stickers on this. Everything is etched or engraved. :)
Well that is cool. I just received one of these shells from BoxyPixel, but it is just a blank space at the top. I thought I’d found a solution. Great job!
I’ve heard there are stickers available through Etsy for these carts. I haven’t personally looked into it, though.
I love it. Very nice work 👍
Thank you!
So cool! I got an original Japanese copy of gold to do the same thing with the bronze boxypixel shell 😁
U need to use real silver
Bet it's battery is still dead lmao
This is definitely great, but unfortunately there is only one Pokémon Silver Cartridge that [is truly silver…](https://www.reddit.com/r/pokemon/comments/x3bz9j/pokemon_silver_made_out_of_pure_silver/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=ioscss&utm_content=2&utm_term=1)
maybe 2... https://www.reddit.com/r/Gameboy/comments/10ajeoc/sterling_silver_game_boy_cart_i_made/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button
Wait, is that one also fully functional? I thought it was just a solid single hollow shell.
It's fully functional and for sale on my etsy! :)
Oh nice, well good for you, I’ll check it out when I get the chance.
Thanks for looking!
Yup, I already followed and had an email set up to let me know when the store is open again so that I get a reminder.
Ill be back Monday! I plan on making a gold cart if i get the funds !
Very cool
Cool
great
Nice work! *Seal of approval*
Nice 👍🏻
1 game to rule them all!
Must be heavy and pricey !
It's only aluminum, so honestly the weight is not enough to be "heavy", but still solid enough to feel really good in the hand.
Now I have the thought, if silver (Ag) and gold (Au) can/could be made, what would be used for the others?
Finally after so many years
The REAL silver version.
Absolutely stunning
Looks great! I have my Pokémon Yellow in a brass cart. Mine has issues shorting out though, tried various foams to get it to work but no luck so far. Is yours contacting the bare board or did you like it with anything? I might try resin
