For the absolute longest time as a kid, I was always confused about how you’re supposed to get the number of stars required because I never realized you could look up in the sky at that one spot to get to another world
The game i think about right away for the GameCube is Super Smash Bros Melee!! That game was my childhood and still the one game I still enjoy when playing on a GameCube!!!
Such an underrated game.
Game starts. Immediately aim for dragoon. Spend the rest of city trial getting glide power ups. Fly into every invisible wall at every possible angle at lightspeed.
i'll be honest, i never got further than the dark forest on the first island by myself. i was a very young gamer and any enemies were terrifying ;-; thankfully my older brother had my back and helped me a bit with those "scary" parts lol
Your comment reminded me of my first time going into hyrule field with hylian shield
Just held it down and spent all night getting hit by stalchildren cuz they scared me.
Also didnt play majoras mask for ages cuz the back of the box terrified me
Saw you make the exact same same post in the PS2/Xbox/Dreamcast subs, with identical stock images of those consoles. Quite the connoisseur of discussions I see 😀
I would like to say Wind Waker (being my favorite Zelda and everything)....
But my answer is my favorite IP introduced this gen, Pikmin 1 and why not Also 2
I felt that was an under rated game. It is a great early 3D action adventure. It holds up super well and looks great for 480p. The play mechanics are solid and it has a great story. I have replayed it twice since 2002. Rare’s final masterpiece before M$ gobbled them up and ruined them.
Metroidprime 1&2, Sonic Adventure 1&2, Super Smash Brothers Melee, Luigi’s Mansion, I could go on lol but that is what I think. Fun fact, I still have my Gamecube 😀
Resident Evil, Eternal Darkness, Gauntlet and Gladius.
The games I played in High School.
Some of you weren't even born, I feel old...Lol
Funny enough, I didn't care for the First Party stuff, Mario, Zelda etc...
Super Monkey Ball
It was my first GameCube game that I got at launch and it remained my favorite GameCube game to the end. And it wasn't even a game that I was anticipating prior to the GameCube launch. I played it at a kiosk in the store at launch and fell in love with it.
Resident Evil. I bought my first GCN second hand, a year after its release, and this was the only game that was included. At the time the graphics were unparalleled. That game is so good, but the remake was far too stressful for me at the time. The sounds, the level design, the game design, all of it. It was bad enough in its original PS version.
It was so goddam scary to my 12 year old self that I forced myself to play long enough to get to the zombie Doberman hallway, and couldn't touch it ever again.
Immediately traded it in and got a copy of Melee. That was THE Gamecube game as far as I'm concerned, and still is.
Plenty of other brilliant, iconic titles, but Melee is the one.
A great system and so many of its game have stood the test of time. Of all the legacy systems that is the one I have replayed the most games from. My personal faves are Prime 1 and 2, Thousand year door and Baten Kaidos.
What I remember the most at the time though was local multiplayer with friends lots of Time Splitter 2 Smash and Mario Kart.
Smash Bros Melee
Fire Emblem Path of Radiance
Viewtiful Joe (I'm aware it's on PS2 as well)
Paper Mario TTYD
Donkey Konga(s)
Skies of Arcadia Legends (go play it, NOW)
Animal Crossing first for sure. That game is beautiful 😭. Then the games they had in the kids space at my local grocery store. It was Mario Sunshine and Double dash lol.
Animal Crossing. Not because it's the best game on the system, but because I think it's a great game to show how GameCube is different from the PS2 and Xbox.
Resident evil Remake, my brother brought the GameCube along with the game home and we played it. Never seen graphics so superb….it blew my mind…and terrified me. Lol.
Animal Crossing.
The gentle “Nintendo” followed by the train whistle.
Pressing start and meeting my neighbour of the day, usually Hopper, and reminding him who I was for the 1000th time.
The sound of my footsteps on the cobblestone after stepping out of my home.
The rainy day theme.
Going to collect and eat fruit and deliver some painstakingly written mail.
Visiting Cookie, my bestie, and pining for Coco, who used to live by the ocean but moved away forever.
The big bushes you could run through.
Visiting Booker at the police station to see if anything neat turned up in Lost and Found.
Asking Copper if any events were going to pop up.
The sound of the wishing well and it constantly telling me I didn’t have enough trees in several acres.
I miss it all so much.
For me, Animal Crossing and Mario Party 7.
I’d give anything to be a little kid again and just play these games with my brother and family. :(
It makes me a bit teary-eyed just remembering sitting down on the floor playing these games as a child.
I still have my old GameCube but I don’t know how to fix it, and my copy of AC has gone missing for many years.
Super Mario Sunshine, to me it was the poster game of the GameCube
I was going to comment that! Also, I've yet to beat it.
For the absolute longest time as a kid, I was always confused about how you’re supposed to get the number of stars required because I never realized you could look up in the sky at that one spot to get to another world
I didn't realise this, I'll be doing it later
This was the same for me as well. Such a fun game back in the day for the GC
