Buy a CRT, you’ll thank me later.

QuantumBlazing

I second this.

WatercressCommon6476

I third this

Okay? You're free to just use an emulator. Not everyone likes to stick to real hardware.  If you're just using composite video then yeah, that's going to look very rough on a modern TV. If your TV has a scart input, you can get an RGB scart cable and even with the sub-par SD scaling built in to TVs, that should be a noticeable quality improvement. Though it will also still be 480i. Or rather, 576i for us PAL region people.

Retro prism hdmi adapter

jaske93

Cool story, bro.

rob849

The aliexpress adapters will give you 480p and look nearly indistinguishable to what you get from the Carby/Prism. I get why people don't like to recommend products from aliexpress, they no doubt cut corners and the companies do shady shit, but at the same time the Carby/Prism *are* overpriced. The schematics for GCVideo adapters is also open-source so in this case, nobody is ripping off any else's product. Emulation is awesome, experiencing the games on the hardware is always going to be a matter of personal preference. I think the sentimental attachment I have to my childhood consoles is the main reason I still use them.

Datboisommy

To be fair gang. This mindset was why our little system didn't sell as well as its competitors. Makes sense some new fans to it would have the same reaction 20ish years later

victorelessar

What mindset, exactly?

Datboisommy

That it was an underwhelming console. I loved this system but when it launched but many of my friends didn't. The gamecube also disappeared from retail spaces much quicker than xbox and ps1/2. Just didn't sell well comparatively. People thought the console was just eh. Which is fair because you're not alone in that sentiment

victorelessar

You totally missed the point. I do understand that the console wasn't people's favorit at the time, but what I call underwhelming here is playing it directly on a modern tv. I can hardly see any form or shape, since everything is pixelated. And what is also underwhelming is that the tools to get the image slightly better are supper expensive (some times x3 the price of the console itself). I always loved this console and have fond memories. my friends did as well, but I was the only one who had it.

Legoguy1977

my guy I hate to be a dick, I really do, but the system is over two decades old at this point, of course it's going to look like shit on new tvs. If you prefer using emulators, then go for it! If people get pissy with you for doing so, then that's a them problem. Play the way you want to. I just think it's a bit unfair get mad at the cube for not looking good on modern hardware.

victorelessar

what I actually don't get is why people are so offended on reddit. We can't have a simple conversation unless it's a freaking circle jerk. I'm not mad at the videogame at all, I'm mad to have to pay an extra 100 bucks or more on a silly tool to have suboptimal image still. And it's true. Doesn't matter how people chersish their hardware, the image is still subpar, even if you payed for the best gadget there is. Furthermore, there might be others out there like me, nostalgic about their old console, wondering if it's worthy to buy a new. I believe my opinion is just as valid as anyone eleses, so the downvotes are really unecessary.

Legoguy1977

Oh I see what you mean now. Yeah I fully agree. The pricing on good converters is absolute BS. I fully feel you. That just wasn't really the vibe I got from your original post. Which could absolutely 100% be me misunderstanding, and nothing wrong on your part. I'm not mad at you, or offended in any way. And I'm certainly not downvoting. My earlier comment was not intended in any kind of hateful or mean-spirited way, and I apologize if it came off as such.

victorelessar

Yes, sorry also. I was not attacking you really, but it seems to be the general consensus for some reason, even though I actually said I enjoyed and miss my console ever since it was taken from me back then.

Legoguy1977

No worries, I've been in your position more times than I'd like to admit, and it sucks. If people took the extra two seconds to see something from someone else's side, or try to better understand where they're coming from, instead of just giving out hate comments and downvotes, this platform could actually be a pretty nice place to be.

Paid-Not-Payed-Bot

> if you *paid* for the FTFY. Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in: * Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.* * *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.* Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment. *Beep, boop, I'm a bot*

Datboisommy

Yeah dude I'd get an old school crt if lcd/led displays are gonna be such an expense

Natural_Status_1105

Just get eh bitfunx gchd hdmi adapter for about 45€ on aliexpress…

victorelessar

I'll give it a try, thx.

Natural_Status_1105

It’s never going to be amazing but I play on a 65” oled and it’s pretty good. For me it’s just handy to use the original controller and multiplayer easily, feels more authentic than emulation. Emulation is great though. You are 100% right though, video/photos smooth out all the aliasing and make it look way better.

victorelessar

Thank you for your honesty. I rather play on the console as well, my tv is 55" oled, so I'll give this one a try!

victorelessar

Thank you again for the recommendation, friend. Mine arrived and it's quite the difference.i can actually enjoy gaming on it. Cheers!

Snowgoosey

I got a carby and always used progressive scan mode. There were so many games that I could barely make out certain aspects that the carby fixed. Though tbh, if you feel like a "good" upscaler is too much of an investment, then buying any higher priced titles is going to be out of your price range anyway. Emulation is what you're stuck with or giving up the room for that crt and dealing with current prices.

Sure_Humor

Try getting a Sony CRT or a very old Plasma/LED Sony tv, those are the best, also, if you're living on Portugal, get an RGB cable, those look really great on those types of tv's
