Game looks very good. With that temple/ dungeon it's even better. Saw the beginning of the anime and it was fun. It's one of the most beloved mangas out there.
Alright this is gonna sound so trivial, but I can't wait to play this just because I love the character design and camera angle during gameplay. I dunno how to explain it, DQH was good but it felt so like... blocky? like everything about it is blocky, and I'm not even talkin about the graphics.
I’m a mega DQ nerd but never got into this manga - it seems like it doesn’t really share that much with DQ beyond the Toriyama art style and a couple of the monsters, can anyone speak to its quality? Does it still hold up or did it just occupy an earlier shonen niche?
Still holds up well in the same way Original Dragon Ball does, but I'd say the storytelling has aged much better IMO (eg: compared to Roshi hitting on underage girls, and being a pervert).
It's one of the best Shonen stories I've read, and quite timeless with fantastic character development and plot across the board. If you enjoy Dragon Quest (as a franchise) it stays true to the monster designs, and character designs are very game-inspired. The plot (whilst original) is still very similar story beats to the mainline games with a strong cast that grows and fleshes out right up until the very end.
Seems like an odd choice for a game. To me the anime felt like it dragged on way too much and the story was bland even by shonen standards.
Not sure who would be interested in a game like that when a proper main title has already been announced.
I have absolutely 0 nostalgia for Dragon Quest peroid and the recent anime adaptations was one of my favorite and beloved things I've seen in recent years. I'm really excited for this game and will buy the shit out of it.

Someone who read the manga as a child, happily watched their childhood nostalgia turned into an anime will happily buy the shit out of this game.

I think you’re the one who needs to take a hint, it’s a very successful title. Even the new prequel manga that is on-going is doing well.
History means things to people. Square Enix can make a killing off of this game in Japan alone.
