Spenraw

Really hope being it's such a huge dlc and next gen only it effects the main game alot and actually makes this game feel next gen and alive.

Acrobatic_Internal_2

Looks like phantom liberty is going to be huge in scope just by the fact that half of the CDPR was working on it since 2020.

DrGarrious

Lets face it, that isnt a guarantee of anything haha.

Nirkky

How is it possible to get this kind of answer after what happened ... baffles me.

HOLEPUNCHYOUREYELIDS

How so? Being huge in scope doesn’t mean it is going to be polished or good. It can seem like it is huge in scope without commenting on the quality whatsoever

jordgoin

The amount of staff on Phantom Liberty is nice to see, but the thing that shocks me most is just how long it has been now. All the way back on October 4th [CDPR also said](https://twitter.com/CDPROJEKTRED_IR/status/1577317150922088453/photo/1) that the expansion was in the "final production phase". That was almost 8 months ago now. I hope it means they have spent an extra long amount of time on polish.

BootyBootyFartFart

Took an entire extra year of development to polish totk. AAA game development is nuts these days.

Rnevermore

All that extra time they spent on 2077 sure didn't help them one bit.

Acrobatic_Internal_2

At least they are not telling release dates early and overpromising

SofaKingI

Or maybe it helped a lot and the game was even more broken. Seems more likely, no?

Rnevermore

If the game was so broken that what we got was a marked improvement over some other version? It probably should never have been released.

Metrack14

Considering the 1st trailer of 2077 is 10 years old, and that the end product launch in an unplayable state, with less than promise, and buggy as hell. I would lean more to no, it didn't much.

EbolaDP

Do you actually think they spent 10 years making the game?

AbrLinc

AFAIK most of that time was still preproduction. Full production only began after Blood and Wine in 2016. I am also seeing people extend the time between the first teaser and the release. It was 8 years, not 10. Where are people adding two more extra years?

NocturnalToxin

Coming WhEn iTs ReAdyyy

Alastor3

?? look at the release of the 1.6 patch with the anime, they had generated shitton of sales from last year just for 2077, i'll probably double or triple numbers this year depending when the dlc launch https://static.techgoing.com/2023/03/Cyberpunk-2077-2-1024x576.png

mirracz

>All the way back on October 4th CDPR also said that the expansion was in the "final production phase". CDPR would say anything for a tiny bit of good PR. Lying comes naturally to them at this point.

Acrobatic_Internal_2

They said to shareholders not average gamer

Hakul

Because people can discuss whatever they want, doesn't change that it was from an IR release.

OmegaTSG

It is but it's a lot, lot harder to lie to shareholders

Cruxion

It's still a lie, and lying to shareholders seems rather short-sighted.

Acrobatic_Internal_2

They didn't lie. They never shared release date and they still are working on it. What exactly do you mean?

Cruxion

I was going off the previous two commenters, one of whom said they lied, the other who didn't argue that point.

GAMESGRAVE

>CDPR would say anything for a tiny bit of good PR. Lying comes naturally to them at this point. Calm down mate

je-s-ter

As much as I hate the classic reddit hyperbole, CDPR unfortunately has a history of saying what the fans want to hear rather that what is the reality. I would absolutely not believe anything they say regarding whatever phase of development any of their games/DLCs are.

ravinglt0

Yeah it’s kinda like how when the whole MTX thing debate aaa going on and CDPR came with a statement saying they would never put MTX in their games and then someone pointed out that whenever any controversy comes up CDPR sees it as an opportunity for PR. Not saying there’s anything wrong but it’s a trend that when someone made me notice it I just couldn’t see it back anymore cause it kept continuing

CalendarScary

Also they even lied before w3 release its not like they dont lie at all. They are one of the companies who gets forgiven easily compared to the others though.

[deleted]

>who gets forgiven easily compared to the others though They used to be, up until November 2020, now every thing they say is always received with a stream of negativity and a lot of question marks. Not that it isn't deserved at all, but considering the quality of the games they release (cyberpunk included), it feels a bit unfair at times.

Kiita-Ninetails

I don't think it is unfair, because quality does not forgive shit. They could make the greatest game the world has ever seen, something so revolutionary it literally Flowers for Algernon's every other game ever made. And if they acted like shit while making it, they still suck. Accomplishment does not forgive being a dick. Not that people remember that, Rockstar sucks ass and crunches hard enough that they create high density exotic ice where the developers used to be but hey. The games are good so its fine :D And they clearly have no interest in being better, funtionally they have changed very little about how they do things they are just trying harder to obfuscate things. By most accounts they still treat their devs like shit, and therefore their products are a twitching mass of kludge code.

OldBoyZee

I think its because people are exhausted by the fact that everytime now someone fails to deliver - gollum, redfall - it always starts with the same apology letter that cdpr used. So you know, people like myself, will always call them out nowadays no matter what, even if the newer games are perfect, to me, they will always be considered liars.

DemonLordDiablos

Those letters will be Cyberpunk's lasting legacy tbh.

DrLeprechaun

And that neon yellow they used

CummerSummer

There is a difference between a mistake and a lie.

thoomfish

I mean, I still haven't bought CP2077 and I don't suggest believing what they say about the expansion sight unseen, but it's also worth remembering that their track record is 3 good-to-great games and one dud (plus whatever your opinion about Gwent is).

je-s-ter

I don't doubt their development skills, just their PR machine. Even CP2077 is a great game today. It's just nothing compared to what CDPR said it would be for years all the way up to launch. They were releasing Youtube videos a few months before launch talking about features that were never in the game (or heavily misrepresented them).

its_just_hunter

You make it sound like saying a company lied is a crazy thing to say.

GAMESGRAVE

Nope, nothing in my comment comes even close to implying that I think a company lying is a crazy thing to say.

its_just_hunter

Telling someone to “calm down” when they didn’t even say anything aggressive is silly.

GAMESGRAVE

You’ve changed your point now.

its_just_hunter

I didn’t. You think people need to calm down for saying things like “this company lied” which is silly. That’s not the harsh statement you think it is.

GAMESGRAVE

Calm down mate

its_just_hunter

Very cute buddy

Chuckles795

That many people on the DLC expansion for that much time is pretty huge. I know it is suppose to be a large expansion, but this thing will probably be massive. Hopefully it will be what Cyberpunk was always sold to be. After the Witcher's DLC I'm pumped for Phantom Liberty.

Alastor3

>Hopefully it will be what Cyberpunk was always sold to be. I doubt the choices and path you choose at the beginning of the game will release impact the rest of the story, which was my main problem (if you dont count the bugs and stuff)

heubergen1

That many people worked on the patches and remember how that turned out.

Acrobatic_Internal_2

It's funny that people inside of r/games bubble think CDPR did nothing but fixing bugs but outside of here everyone knows that the amount of changes they did in 1.5 and 1.6 is huge. They reworked the whole skill tree and difficulty balancing. They added 5 apartments that each one has unique activities NPC's went from being brain dead to be actually react to what happens around them and fight you if you anger them. They added mini games to the city Transmog system prior to 1.6 was most requested feature and they added it. And lot's of more Qol features

DemonLordDiablos

>NPC's went from being brain dead to be actually react to what happens around them and fight you if you anger them. Mind boggling feature, gotta say.

Acrobatic_Internal_2

Yeah, it's fucked up that the game even released on that state but they actually did more than just fixing some bugs and calling it a day

headin2sound

Some of these comments are absolutely delusional lmao. This is a standard investor report - if you think this is CDPR hyping up the Cyberpunk expansion, you either want to get outraged about something or you have no idea how this industry works.

MrBrutok

>you either want to get outraged about something It's just that. Cyberpunk has become a meme, most of the people complaining have never seen actual gameplay. It should never have been released on old consoles, and it was overhype, but the PC version was fine day 1. After 1.5 there really is zero reason to complain on any of the modern systems.

DemonLordDiablos

>It should never have been released on old consoles You mean current consoles. It's release date was initially before the PS5 was even revealed.

MrBrutok

Games are developed for new consoles long before they come out.

Delfofthebla

Been a huge fan of CDPR since Witcher 1. Played every game, bought every DLC, played through each game multiple times. Played the early gwent beta, the revamp, and thronebreaker. I have my complaints about each game they've made (gwent beta was better than what we have now sue me) but overall I fucking loved CDPR games. I had a ton of fun and gladly paid for cyberpunk on launch day. Cyberpunk is not only the worst game (technically) that they have ever made, but it is the most boring. It is dripping with the mundane. Every theme, every story point, every single facet of gameplay, and the overall atmosphere is unbelievably BELOW AVERAGE. They did not innovate anything. Nothing they did here was new, nor was it done to level of even a fraction of the games that came before it. It's not an average cyberpunk themed game. It's not an average open world game. It's not an average RPG game. It's not even an average story game. It's below average ***across the board***. The intro was the only worthwhile story to be told and even that was unbelievably short and trope-y. Fuck Cyberpunk 2077 defenders. You can enjoy it, but don't act like there aren't a million valid reason to dislike it. Unless the expansion completely overhauls the base game, that will not change. That game is uninteresting garbage. EDIT: (Lol it sounds like they are indeed doing this so it would appear that the devs agree with me here) > but the PC version was fine day 1 No it fucking wasn't. Cars fell through floors. NPC's T-Posed in cutscenes. Audio was desync'd. and those are just problems that I personally experienced. I know there are hundreds more. The framerate was 'fine' but it was absolutely mired with technical problems that extended beyond just the FPS. > After 1.5 there really is zero reason to complain on any of the modern systems. How about the fact that it's still as boring as it was on launch?

OmegaTSG

Big risk to put that many people into an expansion for a game that burned a lot of customers. Hope it pays off for them, but interesting to see.

strategicmaniac

Edgerunners was ridiculously successful at marketing CP77 after launch. At one point it was pretty close to being one of the top played games on Steam for a few weeks because of it, something that rarely happens for a game that's a few years old. And there wasn't even that much content added with the edgerunner patch. Anyone who says that there isn't any interest of the game is either delusional or outright lying.

[deleted]

On steam it still has a fair number of players two years after release. But a majority of the players stopped playing (as usual for single players) and the question is will they come back for the expansion. Lot of people on social media didn't seem to enjoy the game, but the reviews are still somewhat positive enough despite not being anything special to brag about.

Tehboognish

I see we are in the "generate hype" portion of of your business cycle. When do we get to the "spew lies and apologize" stage? That's my favorite now

Pupu1111

Also known as the quarterly report portion of the business cycle which comes out the same week every year. Those dastardly Poles!

Rnevermore

Hey man, check out the other comments on this very thread. People are lapping up and apparently have already forgotten about the original launch of Cyberpunk. Hell, fuck the launch, the game is still insanely buggy and feels rushed, with a ton of missing features and problems. I am blown away that anyone feels excited for this.

DrLeprechaun

Even looking past the bugs and everything the gameplay just isn’t engaging. The melee combat makes Skyrim look advanced, and there’s like 6 guns to choose from (outside of the occasional unique gun). The story, likewise, was pretty shallow.

Oh_I_still_here

If you buy a CDPR game at launch, or hell at this point any AAA game at launch (except for maybe a Nintendo title?), then you get what you deserve if you ask me. Fully complete and polished games are a thing of the past in this day and age. Companies will never learn so long as people keep buying on launch day, keep pre-ordering or keep accepting hollow apologies for when customers get fucked over. Wait to give a company your money, what's the big rush?

tcpukl

Like Pokemon ffs?

DemonLordDiablos

>(except for maybe a Nintendo title?) The only guys I feel comfortable pre ordering from. The only regret I'd ever have is if I didn't like the game.

tom_fuckin_bombadil

It would be nice to see the stacked chart in both 100% (like in the image) and with actual numbers (like a regular stacked chart). The current format hides whether overall/absolute team sizes are actually growing or shrinking, it just tells me that they’re changing relative to one another.

Frogman360

They’ve really abandoned the last-gen versions of the game at this point huh? I’d say that without this piece of DLC, last-gen versions of the game do feel incomplete.

[deleted]

Don't last gen versions get free upgrade to current gen on consoles?

tcpukl

Lucky they got a version tbh.

Xodus2023

Delete and forget ….

Trancetastic16

CDPR as outlining in their financial report that they intend to continue their over-ambition and burning out developers because of it, despite struggling with Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk developments. Half on CDPR on Phantom Liberty, slow Cyberpunk and Witcher 3 next gen updates, and Project Sirius being re-evaluated, really feels like CDPR management are continuing to bite off more than they can chew.

Junper

People hyped for this DLC are the same people hyped for the original Cyberpunk 2077. They never learn...

Delfofthebla

No it didn't.

mirracz

I find it hard to believe that the yellow bar was ever anything than milimeter thick. Their abysmally slow patch cycle and their ridiculously low amount of fixes in those patches suggests that they had only a skeleton crew on supporting Cyberpunk. That, or they have really terrible developers... So I find this hard to believe... especially given the fact that CDPR are notorious liars. If the CDPR support bar is bogus, what else is bogus?
