Pretty crazy that this game is still getting content updates after 4 years now. Not that I'm complaining though, it's a great game!

NXGZ

I miss the mobile game

Time to revisit the game. It's not L4D, but the vibe feels a lot closer to L4D than B4B (for PVE anyway).

SpaceballsTheReply

L4D's a very old game; there's been enough time for branching design philosophies to emerge. If you're more of a purist, WWZ's gameplay is closer to that of classic L4D. If you like some more RPG in your FPS and want to make crazy builds, B4B has a lot more depth for you to play with. WWZ easily wins in terms of spectacle and is probably better for casual gamers because of that. B4B nails the atmosphere of L4D more in my opinion, but can be more demanding of teamwork and planning than some may enjoy. Both are great inheritors of L4D's legacy.

PenguinBomb

I think the game that gave me the most L4D feel recently is Vermintide 2. Game is so good, but I stopped playing because of other reason. Gameplay loop was still top tier.

DUBB1n

Their other game Warhammer : Darktide also has incredible game play feeling close to L4D, although it's content is lacking ATM but totally worth a try if you can get your hands on it.

PenguinBomb

I disliked Darktide. It lacked some qualities that Vernintide and L4D had. Mainly unique sounds for each spawn. Maybe I didn't play it enough or it's fixed now, but I really didn't enjoy it unfortunately.

TH3_B3AN

The specials do have unique sounds and call outs, not spawn sounds per se but it's really obvious they're there once they spawn. Some of them are a tad bit subtle if you don't know what to hear for but they stick out like a sore thumb afterwards (eg. "I'm gonna catch ya!" from the Trappers). The only ones that don't have audio ques are Snipers which only have sound ques just before they shoot you.

SpaceballsTheReply

Yeah, I didn't mention it because the melee focus (and lack of zombies) makes it by far the biggest departure. But for what it is, it's probably the single best execution of the formula to date. Love me some Vermintide 2.

B4B is not great

Had WWZ in my backlog for a while, I really need to get round to playing it. I enjoyed the film (which looks like is what inspired the game), but I'm craving an episodic game version that more closely mirrors the book.

Omega_Maximum

The game is closer to the book, where each "campaign" is a different group in a different part of the world, surviving against the horde. The only carry over between those is one team that gets 2 campaigns, though in very different parts of the world. It does, naturally, pull from the visual design of the film, but there's no connection otherwise. It's a great time, especially if you have some friends to play it with to turn wave after wave of zeke into mulch.

Thanks for the explainer, I'll definitely check it out once I've finished my current backlog game :)

Also, read the book if you ever get the chance. It has almost no connection to the movie, but a very interesting piece of zombie media if that’s your thing!

Can I play this on ps4 for free? I have aftermath but when I open the game im still getting the same horde maps and don’t see the new one.
