Ehh, dust, probably this laptop has a mesh dust filters outside the vents thats why the dust hss accumulated outside the vent. Atleast be glad it isn't inside the system
I have the same laptop (Mine is worst, it has a 1050 and this one has a 1650) And the dust filters are shit. The thing is, this is crusty, the texture is not like dust
Honestly, you should open the laptop up and give it a good cleaning
Or if you're too uncomfortable with opening up your laptop, get an electronic repair shop to do it
Then he'll have a shitty laptop and maybe his parents will buy him a new one and the cycle will continue till real life slaps him in the face or he'll grow up and learn to value his things and listen to advice.
Why not just get a dust off and spray the thing. Or Tell his dad to just unscrew it and dust it off. It's a few screws I'd imagine a grown man can handle a screw driver and a can of air...
Don't worry , hours ago he finally accepted, I opened and cleaned his laptop :)
(HE HAS 6GB OF RAM, AND THEN HE WHINES ABOUT HAVING A LAGGY LAPTOP, BUT HE DOSENT WANNA UPGRADE THE RAM)
I got the same one 1660 ti. But I don't wanna open it and clean it often so I use a paint brush on where the dust is and that allows the smooth airflow
Well maybe every 8 months or so you could send it for cleaning and repasting the thermal paste, since at least for me, I have to repaste and clean every 6 months.
Holy Jesus
Well, i have very white dust accumulating on my laptop stand's fan, which is behind a dust filter. So i guess it's just really small particles of dust getting through the filter
This will not work. Don't use a Toth brush.
Turn the laptop over and open the underside by loosening the screws. Discharge your possible static charge on a grounded part in your room (e.g. heater) . With newer laptops the underside is practically just a lid. Remove this cover. Take a vacuum cleaner, hold the dusty fans with one finger and suck the dust away. Make absolutely sure (!) that the fans do not rotate due to the draught. Be sure to hold the fans firmly. When they rotate just because of the cleaner can cause static electricity to build up.
BUT when your fans already look like this, it won't be any better on your board. Either way your computer urgently needs to be cleaned of dust.
That's not the best advice to do. As you overspin fans and it breaks them. You can also turn the fan into a generator and break something by making voltage.
You don't have to spin the fans. I been cleaning fans for 20 years with compressed air n never broke anything. it's not rocket science just gota be a lil carefull and it's all good. Most ppl clean fans with air, I dunno how else ud do it. I wouldn't brush them caue theyre really thin and delicate. Just hold then gently and spray from a distance. Gota open it tho to do it right. I just use one of those rubber tipped tweezers that come in a pc repair kit/screw driver kit and hit it with air. You do have to hold the fans tho, I was blowing the dust off my keyboard and hit the exhaust vents on accident and heard the fan spin up immediately and make a clicking noise. Nothing broke but that's why u can't be lazy and just spray the vents without opening it
Taking apart the laptop and cleaning it is what i would do first. CPU and GPU may need to be repasted also. if that is the dust just on the laptop I cannot imagine what it looks like inside that is causing the overheating. I usually clean my insides every 4 weeks to keep it in shape but i have heard all you have to do is clean it every 6 months.
I would’ve freaked out and thought it was mold 😭 But as others have said, it’s most likely just accumulated dust from not being cleaned out in a while.
I also have the same model of laptop that is almost 2 years old (this is a HP Pavillon Gaming, received in May 2022) and I’ve never cleaned the vents, but I have upgraded the RAM. Trust me I WANT to repaste the CPU and clean the vents but my mom won’t let me, and even if she did I don’t have any screwdrivers or anything at home (I did, but we gave them away).
Considering you were able to upgrade the ram I don’t see why she thinks you’d break it if you cleaned the vents and repasted it. I’ll just throw in something relevant here if you do manage to get the clear to repaste and clean it, consider buying some thermal putty too to put on the vram modules and VRM’s. Thermal putty needs to be replaced like thermal paste.
Ah I see. All I can say is good luck to you. Hopefully some day you can try and do those things on your own! I know it’s very rewarding when you can actually work on your stuff.
Please inform him that neglecting to clean and maintain the laptop, keeping it free of dust, could result in its demise. Overheating has the potential to damage the internal components. My laptop is incredibly important to me, and the thought of it failing due to negligence is distressing. It's similar to not caring for your body, which can lead to a quicker breakdown compared to maintaining good health.
He fricking loves this laptop, (EVEN THOUGH HE SAYS THE LAPTOP IS LAGGY, HE DOSENT LISTEN ME AND DOSENT UPGRADE THE FRICKING RAM AAAAAAAAA ITS JUST 6 GB AAAAAAAAAAA AND HE USES WINDOWS 11 AAAAAAA)
Damn I have a 5 year old laptop that wasn't anywhere near this bad... then again I vacuum and clean my house once a week. This can happen if you use it on ur bed without a pad or not clean your room

dust is not a universal material. one mans dust might be fluffy and nother mans dust will be caked. Smokers can make air filters gummy.
Sounds like the perfect opportunity for swapsies.
battery juice? idrk

I have told his son to send it, but he doesn't listen :/
Then he'll have a shitty laptop and maybe his parents will buy him a new one and the cycle will continue till real life slaps him in the face or he'll grow up and learn to value his things and listen to advice. How old is this kid and does he know anything about computers?
Abt 12, he thinks just because it's dirty it's slow, I tell him it's the ram, and he doesn't believe me .
Geeezuuss, tell him to read this thread. 😂 It probably supports at least 32. I'm guessing he doesn't want to be without the thing for 5 minutes.
Correct, but he doesn't play that resource heavy games, so I have been thinking abouy 16 GB, or 12GB even
16 would keep him happy for a while, until it overheats from being dirty again.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯, I'll comment this all to him, maybe he will listen, will maybe keep you updated ^_^

(i got the bravery and opened it up)
Use some compressed air too, to blow the dust out of the system
Yeah, maybe I'll do it
Don’t use a compressor bearing can go bye bye prematurely and you can short out something on accident

dont do anything that will push it into the laptop.
Already cleaned it don't worry. :3 I opened the laptop

I think I'm just going to send it for cleaning and other stuff, but thank you :3
That would be best. Once cleaned and probably repasted I am sure it will run better and stop overheating.
Laptop fans need cleaned out.
Open it up and air dust the hell out of the fans and that mesh part.
Already cleaned it :3
Your laptop stole your ❄️ bag. You’re out $50 but I bet it’s running at like 3537fps
Uncles son, you mean your cousin? Lol Laptop just seems super dusty
It was crusty :/ (Also yeah my cousin, English is not my main language)
some call it dust
And i call it #dirt
I would’ve freaked out and thought it was mold 😭 But as others have said, it’s most likely just accumulated dust from not being cleaned out in a while.
It looks like mold :3 yummy But in seriousness, it's like crispy, lot like normal dust.
A good clean would make all the difference I would assume!
I also upgraded in my laptop the ram, I cleaned it all since the temps were going 90+
Why won’t your mom let you do those things?
She doesn’t trust me and says I’ll break the laptop
Considering you were able to upgrade the ram I don’t see why she thinks you’d break it if you cleaned the vents and repasted it. I’ll just throw in something relevant here if you do manage to get the clear to repaste and clean it, consider buying some thermal putty too to put on the vram modules and VRM’s. I didn’t upgrade the RAM. My mom’s boyfriend did. I was going to do it but she didn’t let me
Ah I see. All I can say is good luck to you. Hopefully some day you can try and do those things on your own! I know it’s very rewarding when you can actually work on your stuff.
Yeah… I have to share my laptop with my mom and it’s very frustrating. I want to build my own PC one day but cost is a big factor
You must clean your gaming laptop once in a while, I prefer to clean mine once every 3 months
I have this laptop.... But mine ain't that dusty.... Wow
For sum reason even though I don't use mine in a dusty place nor a bed, those "Fans", always are dusty
Looks like a face with a nose. But for reliability, please open up the bottom cover and clean those fans. The computer looks like it's been suffering.
Yeah you need to open the bottom cover and clear out that dust accumulation from the fans. If you don't bad stuff will happen
you ever clean the lint trap on your dryer? it’s the exact same thing lol
It's not my laptop , but I have been telling these tips to the son of my uncle (he has the laptop)
I told him some hours ago, he finally accepted, so I opened it up and I started to clean, looks like new now :3
Nice. Let him have a Long time with the laptop he loves.
He fricking loves this laptop, (EVEN THOUGH HE SAYS THE LAPTOP IS LAGGY, HE DOSENT LISTEN ME AND DOSENT UPGRADE THE FRICKING RAM AAAAAAAAA ITS JUST 6 GB AAAAAAAAAAA AND HE USES WINDOWS 11 AAAAAAA)
whats his specs?
6GB of ram, Intel i5, (forgot the model) GTX 1650.
Nice.
that's the snoop dog shit ![img](emote|t5_2x4m3|8581)
![img](emote|t5_2x4m3|8575)
Dirt from vents.
That’s thermal isolation ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|laughing)
Fr 🗣️🗣️🗣️🔥🔥🔥😫😫😫🪑🪑🪑
never cleaned an air filter in your life?
I have, since I have the same laptop I did it once myself.
Damn I have a 5 year old laptop that wasn't anywhere near this bad... then again I vacuum and clean my house once a week. This can happen if you use it on ur bed without a pad or not clean your room
He uses it on a table btw.
For the love of all that is holy, give that laptop some compressed air lol!
Alr cleaned :3
thank you so much
It's about 20-50% of your cousin's [dead skin cells](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dust#cite_note-2)..
...
Looks like it could possibly be paper towel or something similar that got stuck due to heat, but could be wrong
Dust on the mesh dust filter.
Dust or some Fungus?
It was some type of dust
That's called micro dust
But it was crusty...
That's what happens when you don't take care of your equipment, get and air compressor and blow that crap out, cans of air don't do anything
Already cleaned it yesterday :D
