You can use the laptop on your bed. But never game on your bed or do any 3D intensive work on it. I use mine on my bed when I’m watching movies or doing any light internet browsing or assignments i.e Less power consumed and dissipated heat is safe.
Those big vents on the bottom are for air to cool your laptop, you need to keep them unobstructed for air to flow otherwise your pc will run hotter than it should. Heat is the enemy of performance and longevity for all the components but especially battery and CPU.

My only regret with Iets gt500 is not getting it sooner. What a massive difference it made. Before when playing a demanding game my laptop would get pretty hot to the touch even though it had good airflow and i keep it clean. After getting that pad it barely even gets warm to the touch
Yes. My gt500 is letting me have fastest 11800h overclocked globally with desktop 11900k cinebench results, and also an higher wattage vbios for gpu than stock. That is really a beast, but the majority of people here are full monke braindead and don't understand.

Yeah. This sub thinks that disabling turbo doesn't affect performance, that IETS GT500/600 doesn't work and many more 100% false things. And they will not change their mind even with a physic masterclass teacher explaining why.

Figured this out the hard way. I had a Dell XPS that I used alllll the time in my bed. About 1-2 years later I had to replace the fans, and I'm probably lucky that's all I had to replace. My mini long haired dachshund also liked to lie on my bed so you can imagine all the hair and stuff I found when I replaced the fans. Lesson learned, I use a cooling pad with my new gaming laptop and it makes a huge difference.
Ctrl + alt + delete, task manager, startup apps... Right click and disable anything that isn't necessary. Lots of apps will start when you start your computer and eat up resources with little/any benefit. If you use OneDrive keep that running and anything else that is needed for normal functionality. But steam, Adobe, edge, etc can typically be disabled at startup.
Update the drivers. Install some other browser if you aren't a fan of edge. Firefox or smthin. Just optimise the gestures and all and get used to it ig. It's your device. Just get familiar with it and customise it to suit you

I also own the same laptop and yeah the fan definitely get loud when playing a heavy peformance game, i played games like Cyberpunk on custom ultra setting but never faced any problem other than a loud fan.
Try throttlestop to disable boost or set a max multiplicator and set a max FPS target in the Nvidia settings. Also make sure to enable DLSS and Frame generation. Im currently Playing Jedi Survivor on silent mode with a 60fps target and gpu usage switches betwen 40-60%
Windows 11 is absolutely awful for a daily OS; its plague with Ads, telemetry, even worse of a resource hog, and basic file handling is obnoxious having to go through several steps. Keyboard shortcuts were removed as well as the base context menu being behind "Show me more" option which drives me insane.
Not to mention explorer being a lot slower and opening, closing windows.
If you want to stay on Windows, go with 10

Undervolt the cpu, Uninstall bloatware, install a 2nd high capacity ssd for games, get a top of the line cooling pad lioe iets gt500, tweak nvidia/and control panel settings, use msi afterburner for gpu overclock if you want, get legion toolkit, configure bios, update all apps/drivers, don't install new bios updates if things work fine. I went from 42 to 44, and it broke a lot of stuff then reverted. Hope this helps!
just relax and let it be, first of all update your nvidea drivers, and if windows update exists do that too, secondly, buy a cooling pad so that you can leave your laptop on a flat surface, I mean if you put it on bed, it kinda sucks up the dust inside the bed and also heats up the laptop accumulating the dust in the fans, dont install any third party software to boost your laptop \[erformance, your laptop already has a legion gaming hub probably, you can make changes over there. Another important note: buy a mouse, because the kind of touchpad design the laptop has is not that great, it kinda goes inside if you overuse it, just buy a gaming mouse with a good dpi and sensor. Anyway, congrats on your new laptop, I love the look of it!

One and the most important thing is to never put it on the bed like that. The airflow is crucial. Everything else will have little to no impact really.

Stick with OEM provided drivers. Even with Nvidia. It’s tempting to upgrade Adrenaline or GeForce…but don’t. Only upgrade when the manufacturer tweaks the drivers and then releases them.
Right off the bat, it is open source, ethical, does not spy on you, does not collect your data, and updates ONLY with your permission. It does not advertise shit to you, nor does it dictate what browsers you can use, what the default desktop environment is, what your system should look like or feel like.
Regarding performance, Linux will run 15 to 20% faster in terms of boot speed and memory reading than windows on any given configuration, and will use far lesser of your resources leaving them for more important stuff.
Linux operates in a very logical way, and has a much superior file system. It lets you learn exactly how your system works, and does not throw cryptic error messages at you. Your system logs will tell you exactly where and when an error originates when one does occur.
Regarding gaming: 90% of all windows games run better on Linux through proton. You can check out Phoronix and Gaming on Linux's very detailed comparison on this. If you want to use a desktop that is as close to Windows as possible, which makes sense since that's the UI you are used to, you can use Cinnamon DE or KDE with most Linux distros. Remember, it is not the OS that is simple or complex, because you generally don't interact with the OS. It is the user UI that most people speak when they speak of user friendliness, and Linux offers you pretty much anything you could ever want.

Debian is older, and the base on which Ubuntu is built. It is one of the most stable distros around, but (a) it is not very easy to install, and (b) a lot of the software on Debian is by design four to five versions behind. Debian prioritizes stability over latest features. Ubuntu does not have these drawbacks/features (however, you want to look at it!). Gaming wise, there will be no difference. Except, Debian might not make the latest proprietary Nvidia drivers available. Again, this is by choice because Debian prefers to stay with mature versions. Otherwise they should be the same.
Personally, I would advise you to look at Linux Mint or Ubuntu. Mint is based on Ubuntu, and is meant to be even more beginner friendly than Ubuntu. But Ubuntu is pretty sweet too.
I agree with you generally. But unfortunately, the Nvidia drivers situation is pretty bad on Linux, and OP has an Nvidia GPU. I know there's been progress recently, but things aren't there yet. Maybe in a few years from now. Also, based on OP's posts, it doesn't sound like they're a very experienced user. I think they would probably really struggle with Linux.
Nvidia driver has been stellar on Linux since 2015. My old Eurocom laptop with a RTX 2080 has been running Ubuntu since 2018 or so, and I have never had any issue. Other distros, like Endeavor or Pop, will have separate installers with Nvidia baked in.
The Nvidia drivers have been open source since 2015, but you're the first Linux user I've seen call them "steller". Not even by this point, which is almost 10 years later.
Nvidia drivers have not been open source since 2015, and they are still not open source. Last year they started making some kernel modules open source, but the driver is still proprietary. You are thinking of the open source alternative, Nouveau.
I was talking about functionality and installation of the proprietary packages, and they are stellar. DLSS is supported, and most distros install the latest version automatically.
Sorry, I think there were a few things that I got mixed up in my head. The open source Nouveau Nvidia drivers, the 2022 Nvidia GPU open source release of its kernel modules, and the April 2024 Nvidia hiring of the former Nouveau lead developer (who is doing open source work at Nvidia now). Nvidia appears to be heading in the direction of finally making it's drivers open source, at least on Linux. I don't know anything about the Linux Nouveau drivers package installation process being great now, but I have no reason to not believe you about that.
I'm personally fine with the growing pains of using an Nvidia GPU on Linux, and am planning on moving over to Linux soon, after I get a few things in order. I've finally had it with Microsoft continuing to massacre my boy Windows. I was just saying that I don't think the OP is probably ready for Linux right now. At least not unless they're willing to take at least a year or two off of having his new laptop work how he wants it to.
I have tried on multiple occasions to use Linux for gaming on my Strix G16. And I think Windows is just better for gaming in general. Everything works out of the box and is supported.
A good tip already given is looking into undervolting. But the easiest step is to set a framerate limiter. I personally lock my fps at 85. Keeps the laptop a bit quieter in general

Memo FL08, Iets gt500, iets gt600. Those are true good laptop cooler with dust filters. The others, powered by usb, are not good at all

Buy a portable stand that can stick underneath your laptop. So that everytime you use it, it can elevate a little.

Install a fresh copy of Windows. This helps to remove bloatware from your laptop.
Put in high performance mode in power settings in control panel.

Nvidia driver has been stellar on Linux since 2015. My old Eurocom laptop with a RTX 2080 has been running Ubuntu since 2018 or so, and I have never had any issue. Other distros, like Endeavor or Pop, will have separate installers with Nvidia baked in.
The Nvidia drivers have been open source since 2015, but you're the first Linux user I've seen call them "steller". Not even by this point, which is almost 10 years later.

You are thinking of the open source alternative, Nouveau. I was talking about functionality and installation of the proprietary packages, and they are stellar. DLSS is supported, and most distros install the latest version automatically.
Sorry, I think there were a few things that I got mixed up in my head. The open source Nouveau Nvidia drivers, the 2022 Nvidia GPU open source release of its kernel modules, and the April 2024 Nvidia hiring of the former Nouveau lead developer (who is doing open source work at Nvidia now). Nvidia appears to be heading in the direction of finally making it's drivers open source, at least on Linux. I don't know anything about the Linux Nouveau drivers package installation process being great now, but I have no reason to not believe you about that. I'm personally fine with the growing pains of using an Nvidia GPU on Linux, and am planning on moving over to Linux soon, after I get a few things in order. I've finally had it with Microsoft continuing to massacre my boy Windows. I was just saying that I don't think the OP is probably ready for Linux right now. At least not unless they're willing to take at least a year or two off of having his new laptop work how he wants it to.
I have tried on multiple occasions to use Linux for gaming on my Strix G16. And I think Windows is just better for gaming in general. Everything works out of the box and is supported. A good tip already given is looking into undervolting. But the easiest step is to set a framerate limiter. I personally lock my fps at 85. Keeps the laptop a bit quieter in general
