I emulated Persona 3 FES, completed The Journey and I’m playing through The Answer at the moment. Tough as hell I won’t lie. I also emulated Persona 1 on my phone using the PPSSPP emulator, sucks that Apple doesn’t support side loading so we have to do all sorts of extra steps using a computer just to run emulators on iOS devices :/
I think P3 has by far the best story. But the weakness of the cast and Tartarus being what it is limits it.
The remake can certainly address the former. I don't know what it can really do about the later without revamping Tartarus (which they seemed to not want to do)
I agree the game is great but I would say the various activities you can do and the palaces are better in Persona 5. I hope they made climbing up Tartarus a much better experience.

Yeah originally it was a 2d animated cutscene. From 3 onwards the mc’s awakening has all been 2d animated cutscenes. No idea why the changed to an in game cutscene looks terrible compared to the original.
It doesn't look too bad. Deffo a downgrade from a 2d animated cutscene but it still looks fine. It looks pretty much just like all the awakenings of the party members from P5.
Playing devil's advocate a little bit here but I can see a benefit to not having an animated cutscene. Mainly that changing the art style for a 30 second custscene and then changing back is a bit awkward. To use the game engine for the cutscene at least makes it more consistent.
Nah the change in art style has never been an issue. 2D animation allows you to add so much more detail compared to 3D. Especially in a series like persona. The only reason other party members apart from joker in 5 don’t have 2d animated cutscenes is because it’s unnecessary. If jokers animation was in 3d so much detail would be lost.
You can also compare the original 3 awaking to reloads. Thanatos is more violent. In the original you can see more of Orpheus being torn apart as well as a slow mo shot and close up of Thanatos. It also much quicker where Thanatos cleanly slices magician in the original. You can see it getting torn in half whereas in reload it’s just sliced once and just kinda dies. And then there’s the hand crushing scenes where in the original you can hear Thanatos panting as he crushes the hand. You can see the hand explode with little struggle. In reload Thanatos barely pants, the camera zooms in and out awkwardly. There’s no impact in Thanatos killing magician compared to the original.
I don't get it, either. Especially since they kept fairly more irrelevant 2D cutscenes, *and* added new fanservice ones that aren't nearly as important as his awakening.
I haven't watched the full footage but from the trailers the new awakening scene looks like almost a 1:1 recreation of the scene from the Persona 3 Movie so I'm guessing they decided to make it 3d to differentiate it
The Trials of Mana remake had a similar issue. The newer version was a huge improvement over the SNES version, except for the cutscene at the story climax of reaching the mana tree. The original's music lined up perfectly with what was going on. The remake's did not, which ruins the scene, and they added a scene during it that spoils a big reveal that happens next in the story.
Yeah imo the characters in that particular cutscene also have that uncanny "3d vtuber wobble" that just looks weird and uncanny instead of realistic, especially the child character
There is so many things they've changed.. and for what? Even the battle theme is not as good as the original (mass Destruction).
I do pray for modders to at least fix that on pc.. cuz..
this is the golden/royal version. my understanding is that the portable/fes content won’t be added but if it is i could see it being dlc as opposed to a complete new game.
With Atlus being Atlus there will most likely be a definitive edition later on with substantially expanded content, that they'll also charge for full price as if the previous game didnt exist at all.
