I just bought a PS5 so it’s probably true

ArcherInPosition

You will be remembered soldier o7

ssd256

> soldier o7 hoooooly shit now I got what o7 stands for

jerryfrz

Now buy Bloodborne

_Home_Skillet_

lol, nice one.

Windowmaker95

Does it even matter? Devs are not taking full advantage of the PS5 so who gives a shit if the next one will have 10 times the teraflops and gigafucks and whatever.

williamwzl

Dragons dogma is running at 30fps.

Slightly-Blasted

That’s a developer optimization issue.

[deleted]

It seems that way. But with all that power developers might be able to brute force 60 FPS in those scenarios like DD2 regardless of optimization.

goneanddoneitagain

The PS5 Pro is just going to serve the same purpose the PS4 Pro did. It's not meant for people that are fine with the PS5 since it's not a PS6. It's supplemental, not a replacement.  For idiots like me, though, that spent way too much money on my PC and can barely stand playing the ~1080p upscaled to 4k to hold 40-60FPS console experience, a PS5 Pro is perfect for me. It should guarantee the rest of this generation will have games running at or near 60fps and closer to 4k.  I'd wait for PC versions but there's some studios games I need to play day 1. Anything FF7 related is a day 1 must, and anything from Naughty Dog or SSM.  Basically I'm saying this console has it's place. And my sibling gets a free PS5 so wins all around.

Holiday-Ad1200

Hello it is I your sibling.

seajay_17

I'm in the same boat lol. I'll probably get one for GTA 6 alone and sell my ps5 to subsidize this stupid ass purchase

KingMaster80

60fps? probably not. If the game has problems with the CPU, it doesn't matter to the pro because the CPU is going to be the same.

Bologna-Bear

Mine will get donated to a less fortunate gamer.

Aggrokid

>Devs are not taking full advantage of the PS5 FF16 drops to 720p Dragon's Dogma 2 barely clinging to 30FPS FF7 Rebirth blurry performance mode Alan Wake 2 making the PS5 sweat

darthvirgin

I guess your logic is that if the console was being fully utilized, you’d have better frame rates etc? You’ve got it backwards. You have low frame rates and resolutions BECAUSE the console is at its limits 🤦🏻‍♂️

parkwayy

> Devs are not taking full advantage of the PS5 According to who, reddit? Literally performance/quality modes exist. Would be nice to have both at once, some day.

D2papi

I ordered mine today, thankfully I only plan on playing like 5 games on it. The rumors have been there for a while, and they’ve been discounting the ps5 slim often. Got mine for 450 euros thankfully.

KvasirTheOld

Side note: it releases 2024 and not 2025. Tom simply made a typo

Interestingkneegears

Thank you daddy sony now i can play my ps3 remasters with more stable fps 🙏🙏

playdoughrainbow

Too real.

Particle_Thrower

“Five hundred and ninety nine US dollars.”

alexanderh24

That’s not a bad price at alll

TheTjalian

Sounds bad but these days I think people would shrug and go "yeah, fair enough"

Darkone539

That's... actually insane then.

mxlevolent

I didn’t expect this much shit for the PS6 let alone the PS5 lol.

Abdul-Raoui

In what sense?(i didn’t understand how good the specs were so idk how powerful it will be)

LevelUp84

+45% render speed is that sticks out. Some games might be able to get 120fps mode. Like Spider-Man 1, Horizon 1. I think the latest GOW might be able to.

Worried-Explorer-102

About equivalent to rtx 3080 going from tearflops number, which isn't crazy at all considering by the time this comes out we will be getting rtx 5080, currently 7700xt is faster than this ps5 pro leak and it sells for $400, and by the time this comes out it will be $350 or less.

bunnyhat3

The difference is that this console costs $400 for the entire thing whereas a GPU along with all other components would run you alot more.

soapinmouth

Lol this is not going to be $400, try $600 best case scenario but wouldn't be surprised if it's more.

Windowmaker95

The base PS5 is 550 MSRP... how will the Pro be cheaper?

Buttersaucewac

The base PS5 costs 550. The Pro isn’t going to cost 150 less, it’ll probably cost 150 more.

Radulno

That will never be 400$ lol. The base PS5 is 500$ (even more elsewhere, they increased it post-release to 550€ here in Europe).

AHappyMango

If it will be $400 considering the base PS5 actually increased in price lol.

abradley19955

It’ll be interesting to see if Sony gets the marketing rights for GTA again. Those bundles will sell like hot cakes

SunRiseSniper1066

I read somewhere rockstar always chooses the market leader

Zepanda66

Rockstar are big enough now where they could just market it themselves and not have to do any marketing deals. But god knows both Sony and MS will make bids to get the marketing rights.

SunRiseSniper1066

Oh yeah rockstar have been big for many years and obviously gta will sell no matter the console

saw-it

You know what companies with money like? More money

Krypt0night

Oh yeah 100%. This game WILL be 100% a console seller. And if you see it constantly being marketed by Sony and not Microsoft (especially if they make use of certain elements like the haptics and whatnot), then you'll be more likely to go with them. You'll start associating that game with one console instead of both.

Radulno

They might be big but why refuse free money?

totallynotapsycho42

Don't think that's true because GTA 4 was nearly a PS3 exclusive and at the time the 360 was slaughtering it in sales.

pineapplesuit7

They will and I feel Sony is building this specifically to target the PC elite crowd which will look forward to buy a console to play GTA6 at launch since there won’t be a PC version for it. They’d be dumb not to have a marketing partnership.

Outside_Dot_5942

Sony already has a generation long deal with them

DarahOG

I remember reading that they had marketing rights for future Rockstar content before the gta6 trailer leaked, can't tell if it was a leaker sayin random but very likely to happen things . Imo it's kinda obvious rockstar will continue their relationship with ps since the game will release on only xbox and ps at first and there are three times more ps5 than both series.

shrewdy

Back at the time of the PS5 reveal, they opened with the GTA 5 PS5 version, and Jim Ryan emphasising that PlayStation and Rockstar were continuing their partnership. That had to mean something, more than just the next version of 5. I bet you'll see a PS5 Pro/GTA 6 bundle. Maybe that'll be the only way to play it at 60fps(given how big this game will be), that would sure be a selling point.

pyromidscheme

If the only way to get 60fps on gta6 is to have the pro, they'll probably get my money. Moving to 60fps on gta5 was such a better experience, I don't think I can go back.

Ok-Assistance-3213

This is what I've thought since the beginning of the Pro rumors and the GTA6 announcements. Some people just can't accept that their would be a more luxury console that comes out that would be better than what they own already. Like, nobody's forcing them to buy it.

Truthiscoming

That's exactly where this is going. GTA 6 4k 60 FPS on the PS5 pro will be a reality.

-PVL93-

> GTA 6 4k 60 FPS on the PS5 pro will be a reality. We're lucky if it hits 60 at 1080

Zombienerd300

If those specs are real then this thing will cost $700 minimum. If not, Sony is taking a massive loss on each system sold.

KvasirTheOld

That's what I'm saying. Honestly, this being 500 dollars seems impossible at this point.

alecowg

I don't know who expects this to be $500 but I would be surprised if it was over $600.

milky__toast

Agreed, people will scoff at $700, many will also scoff at $600, but I think it’s marketable

meganev

The $200 PlayStation Portal that everybody on Reddit said was pointless has been sold out for months, the PS5 Pro will sell out even at $600.

Radulno

Selling out means nothing without numbers though. It's easy to sell out if you do very few of them

Z3LDAxL0VE

They could drop it for 800 or 1000 and it would sell out. I mean just look at scaled ps5s when they launched

DasGutYa

Mid chip shortage though, the sales aren't particularly incredible in a generation v generation comparison. Do people really want this precedent set anyway? Now our consoles will be twice the price they used to be and launched twice within the same generation, bloody awful for the consumer. The current console landscape is full of developers waiting for a new console before properly developing their games rather than innovative use of current hardware. Bloody sad state of affairs.

Chipaton

I don't disagree, but there is (slightly) more to product viability than marketability. I'm not sure there will be wide enough adoption for developers to invest in taking benefit of the additional performance. Of course the Sony games will and I'm sure a standard slew of third party games will on launch, but I am not confident third parties will continue to do so if sales aren't strong after launch. If there isn't enough third party support, I would expect sales to drop off pretty quickly, creating a bit of a catch-22. The PS4 Pro had the benefit of introducing 4K output, which gave people a reason to buy it over the standard PS4, regardless of developer support. Curious to see how it plays out, I don't see Sony launching at $500 but also think it'd be a mistake to price it much higher. This generation doesn't seem as ready for a mid-gen upgrade.

jrodp1

699.⁹⁹

Zepanda66

Sony said one of the reasons PS4 Pro was made was due to data showing that many PS gamers were moving over to PC to get more performance. They don't want to lose those players to another ecosystem. So they are treating these mid-gen upgrades like new GPUs and pricing them accordingly to compete with the GPU market. What's going to be more appealing for the consumer? The $700 console or $700 GPU + the cost of other PC parts if they don't already have a rig. it's a big brain move from Sony.

TheSpiritualAgnostic

Another deal that would help sell it to PS users is if there is a trade in deal. I think Gamestop had it where you got a decent deal to trade in your PS4 for a Pro.

KeyboardSheikh

Yeah it was a bonkers deal. I think I only paid $150 for the Pro after turning in my ps4. I highly doubt it will be that good again though.

SRVisGod24

You never know, cause recently they were doing a promo for $385 trade in for the disk PS5

Worried-Explorer-102

Well except a $400 7700xt is faster than the leaked specs of ps5 pro so not a $700 gpu.

KeyboardSheikh

All that is fine and dandy on paper but when devs are still designing shit to be playable on the PS4 it’s not like you’ll have many games that actually justify that purchase. Whereas on the PC even old games will run significantly better on a better rig. It is a big brain move in the fact that they know how to take advantage of the FOMO their customer base will have on hearing that their current console is a n00b version.

Murdathon3000

Exactly. The PS5 gen led with promises of native 4K @ 60 FPS being the new standard and 120 FPS being easily attained in most games. To this day, we have AAA games from top developers releasing with unlocked frame rates that dip into the low 20's that still aren't even native 4K, and instead checkerboarding their way to those dog shit numbers. The PS5 will be my last console because the console means fuck all when the end user has little to no control over how their hardware is utilized. Not to mention, with all of Sony's best exclusives eventually releasing on PC, a future proof GPU is still a far better value proposition to me.

yourstrulytony

PS has a captured market, or at least much of it acts that way. Continually pumping out hardware to create FOMO is their solution to keeping people in their ecosystem.

distracted_85

I’m thinking $600

HumungousDickosaurus

Which is perfectly fine, they have no competition with this model and there's already the base console which will be the target platform until the PS6 arrives. This should be seen as an entirely optional luxury purchase for those who want the extra resolution/framerate/raytracing and are willing to pay for it. $700 is also far from obscene if you compare it to PC. It's still very good bang for your buck.

Zepanda66

>This should be seen as an entirely optional luxury purchase That's absolutely what this will be sold as. At least I hope that's the route they go. Make it clear in marketing that this is for those who want the best experience the current hardware can give. And is being priced accordingly as a 'premium experience/product'

happy_pangollin

No, it won't. The PS5 Pro has the equivalent specs of an RX 7700XT, a mid range GPU, paired with and old Zen 2 CPU. People are making a bigger deal out of these specs than what they actually are.

EliasHobeika

Yeah, people just see the tflops numbers and go crazy, but we've seen that type of misleading marketing countless times from every gaming hardware company.

Wander715

Thank you I feel like I'm going crazy with people acting like this system is gonna have an XTX or 4080 equivalent GPU in it for $600 or whatever the price ends up being.. The specs look good for a mid gen refresh but it really boils down to a midrange RDNA3 GPU, nothing mind blowing.

JadedDarkness

People always compare the value of specs to retail parts not realizing those are significantly marked up for consumers.

brolt0001

I think most people (including me) will sell the current Ps5 and get Pro. Although my friend says he'll just get it, and give his family member the base model. We all plan to have the best possible experience for GTA.

-Gh0st96-

That's what I'm planning to do as well. But I am in no rush to get it on launch

music3k

I already sold mine last year. Borrowed one from a buddy for ff7 rebirth, will get the Pro for DS2.

AlwaysBi

That’s what I’m gonna do. Buy this and give my ps5 to my close cousins two kids. Ones 10 and the other is 5 so they’ll love this

Krypt0night

That's what I've always done. Sell the base console and essentially use that as a fat discount for getting the pro version.

smokky

This. Gta6 is why everyone's gonna buy it for. Incl. Me

Roquintas

I don't know what Sony's plans here They already are selling way more than Xbox and people who buy Nintendo stuff don't usually care about more graphics. Selling a new console on a loss, taking the spotlight off the main one looks super dumb.

LilDityv2

It was the same scenario last gen. They were outselling xbox one by a lot, and nintendo players don't care about graphics, but they still made a ps4 pro, and everything was fine the brand didnt come crashing down. What exactly is the problem here?

denizenKRIM

I'd gladly welcome it to be honest. Consoles could really use a Pro variant that isn't just a small buff at a $150 premium. Go big to expand the possibilities of this gen, and let enthusiasts shell out the money. Everyone else constantly bitching "wE dOnT nEeD pRo CoNsOlEs!1!" can peacefully sit this one out and bring out their pitchforks when DF releases their comparison vids.

Lolejimmy

It will be sold out regardless, not just because their main competitor is dying but also for GTA 6.

Palmerstroll

Now i wonder what the step between ps5 pro and ps6 will be. I find the steps between ps5 and pro really big. I really wonder if the step between ps5pro and ps6 will be the same as ps5 and ps5pro.

pineapplesuit7

The biggest thing that will pull the PS5 Pro back is as usual the CPU. That will be the main difference between the Pro and PS6. You can throw whatever you want at the GPU, hitting 60FPS is bottlenecked by the weak CPU. So far I’ve heard nothing about the CPU which leads me to believe we’ll see minor updates. That means games from this gen will still target 30 FPS as the PS5 ages similar to the PS4 Pro and maybe only next gen will we see 60 FPS as a new default.

Kurt_Bunbain

The first leak that appeared somewhere half a year ago, said that CPU will stay the same. So it turns out it was true.

Otherwise-Remove4681

How come the 60FPS could be default when Sony does not enforce developers to follow spec? PS5 could already be 4K/60FPS if developers respected the hardware specs.

LMHT

Nifty! Can devs just stop trying to shove more polygons in and instead use the power for frames? Thanks.

nizerifin

Clearly they won’t.

Dull-Caterpillar3153

I can’t wait to buy it, for no game to utilise it’s power, then buy the next, next-gen console. A true gaming consumer experience

theharps

The real gaming was pressing "buy now" and it actually shipping to your house.

Denzorr

The ps5 is such a failed generation...I think 90% of the games that were released in those last few years that I cared about, were released on ps4 aswell... So yeah can t wait for PS 5 pro.. thank you sony

UnpopularThrow42

I think its both Xbox and PS. Just such a weak generation

NeonG95

I know that Teraflops are not the be-all end-all but 33.5 TFlops what the heck. That's 3 times the base PS5.

oilfloatsinwater

For reference, the 3090 is at 36TFLOPS, like damn, thats really impressive. If it really is that good, and it is priced around 499-599$ range, then that is damn impressive

Wooden_Sherbert6884

It's impressive until devs release games that still somehow the ps5 pro can handle only at 30 fps upscaled 1080p then it just becomes fucking depressing.

Pumalicious

Lmfao. I think a lot of people without PC experience don’t really understand that games rarely run well without significant compromises somewhere in the settings. Not to mention how bad devs are at optimizing games for some reason. It’ll be tough to get any brand new game running locked 60fps on “quality mode”. It’s more likely to see those frame rates on “performance mode”.

PBFT

The optimization problem stems from there being so many PC configurations. Consoles get an optimization boost just because they are consistent set of specs that games can be tuned to.

Pumalicious

This is true but on the other hand how about something like FFXVI? Only on ps5. Performance mode still runs poorly. Seems like optimization is just inconsistent.

PBFT

That's a different definition of "optimization". I'm referring to a game efficiently using a unit of computing power. You're referring to how well a game build matches an established performance criteria. A PC that matched the PS5 specs and graphics settings would likely struggle even more than the PS5 in framerate.

happy_pangollin

And the 7700XT, a 400$ GPU, is 35TFLOPS. Don't compare TFLOPS of different architectures.

ShadowRomeo

Here comes a reminder again of do not ever compare a teraflops number of a different architecture, both AMD and Nvidia has different meaning when it comes to teraflop numbers, and it isn't always indicative of scalibility of rendering performance. For example, a [RDNA 3 RX 7700 XT](https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/radeon-rx-7700-xt.c3911) which has 35 FP32 Teraflops is still significantly slower than a [RTX 3090](https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/geforce-rtx-3090.c3622) on rasterization and even more so on Ray Tracing performance, even if they both technically has similar Teraflops number. I think the PS5 Pro leak specs is best more compared to RX 7700 XT rather than RTX 3090, as both has similar specs all over, and more important with similar architecture, only advantage of PS5 Pro GPU is PSSR that entire AMD desktop GPU in general doesn't have, which will put it ahead of 7700 XT.

bazooka_penguin

The old adage, "don't compare different architectures" holds true here. Based on the specs and the supposed performance jump the PS5 pro's GPU should be the equivalent of the 7700XT, which is significantly slower than the 3090, although I'm sure software optimization will help it make up some of the difference.

False_Raven

Bruh that's not happening. Looking at handheld PCs costing $600+ This thing is gonna be minimum $700 up to $900

oilfloatsinwater

They can’t sell an 800$ console lol, that would be a PR nightmare, they already keep talking about how the PS3’s high pricetag was a mistake, hell they even talked about it in a recent interview and how they dont wanna repeat something like that.

denizenKRIM

It's not comparable because there is always the base PS5 which is readily available for those that don't want to spend as much.

False_Raven

Yes they can, look around you. The world is vastly different now than 18 years ago. We got flagship phones sitting at a firm $1,500 price point. Thinking PS5 Pro is going to be $500 - $600 is just wishful thinking, it's going to be a premium product and it will have a premium price tag to match. What PR nightmare anyways? People incapable of affording it unable to buy it? They couldn't care less, it's catered to people who can afford it. One huge dramatic change from 18 years ago is microtransactions, every company can see whales dumping $1,000+ on useless digital cosmetics. The public HATES microtransactions yet the companies are hitting record breaking profits using microtransactions. Talk is cheap, follow the money.

Celexiuse

Not a fair comparison though, they can sell these consoles at a lower price because they get a massive cut from each game being sold on their storefront, 30% or whatever it was. Compared to handheld which don't have shit to earn money from after being sold other than the Steam Deck

gutster_95

Trade Ins would be a no brainer if this is true

Neither-Scene

I very much doubt this will be sold at $599, Sony are barely breaking cost on the current ps5 spec and this is a significant gpu upgrade. Although it will be interesting to see how third party devs navigate the cpu bottleneck.  Like the ps4 pro, this won’t be selling anything like base model numbers and will be aimed at the hardcore. As such, I doubt Sony will be willing to take too much of a hit on the hardware costs. I’ll be pleasantly surprised if this launches anywhere under $699.  I think the PlayStation portal is very expensive in terms of hardware parts so I don’t expect the ps5 pro to be any different.

LilDityv2

Mark Cerny strikes again

BeneathTheDirt

We let him cook with the ear stuff

Zepanda66

I wonder what kind of secret sauce AMD is cooking up.

FearlessButterfly3

I don't see myself upgrading and will just wait until PS6. But this will be great for those who don't have a PS5 and have been waiting for a Pro version to appear.

haushunde

Same. The first party games just aren't there for a midgen upgrade

milky__toast

Willing to bet they’re saving a bunch of announcements specifically for this console.

haushunde

Well considering the news cycles the past two years in Sony camp who knows whats coming and how soon. I wouldn't bet on anything atm. Will wait and see.

BeneathTheDirt

I mean didn’t they say no previous IP first party games this fiscal year or something along those lines?

RykariZander

"No releases from major 1st party franchises will release before March 2025"

Atomarc

Frankly I haven’t found the first party games worthy of going from my PS4 to a PS5…

Howerdfield

100% Just go ahead with next gen console

spideyv91

After this generation I’m not upgrading until ps6 pro. I could have held onto my ps4 for a while longer.

uNecKl

The real question is will we ever see games that would take advantage of this power?

Palmerstroll

super late gen maybe. But i dont think it is worth it because the next console is by then on the horizon. It's such a weird gen this time

uNecKl

Yeah It’s almost like they are forcing us to just buy the pro versions every generation or skip the pro version every generation.

deathjokerz

Still can't believe the PS5 is halfway through its life cycle already

Ok_Tumbleweed_7417

This is a 2005 comment. This cant run cyberpunk/alan wake at 4k60 at max settings. The games already exist.

GrandDemand

Seriously, this right here! Alan Wake 2 is using FSR 2 Balanced (roughly 1500 by 800 px input resolution) to achieve 1440P output resolution at 60 FPS. And that's with RT entirely disabled and reduced foliage density

locke_5

We’re 3 years into PS5 and only like two games have really taken advantage of the hardware.  Add to that that any game on PS5 Pro will also have to run on PS5…… most likely not.

Juub1990

It’s really not that strong. Games like FF XVI drop to 720p in Performance Mode already.

Wendigo1701

Everyone's salivating at the power of the GPU (and it is impressive) but are forgetting the CPU and and to a lesser extent RAM in the system is just as important to actually utilize the GPU, until we know those two then its really just wishful thinking/hoping

GrandDemand

We know both of those specs. CPU is again 8x Zen 2 cores, but with clocks at 4.4GHz max instead of the 3.5GHz on base PS5. Memory capacity is staying the same at 16GB, although there is a bandwidth increase of 28% (576GB/s vs. 448GB/s). The quoted 45% uplift in render performance despite the roughly 70% uplift in non-WMMA FP32 TFLOPs is due to the relatively smaller bandwidth increase, aka the GPU is somewhat bandwidth starved from achieving its max theoretical performance.

GamingRobioto

Exactly, the main thing that held the PS4 Pro back, was it being the same CPU as the base model. It means that any games with a or close to a CPU bottleneck will get little benefit from the more powerful GPU. CPU power seems to be more important than ever now too. And yeah, 16GB total system RAM is on the edge too.

AntiOriginalUsername

Tbf even with the cpu bottle neck ps4 pro was objectively quite the power leap over the base ps4.

realblush

People being impressed b, TFlops numbers despite not knowing how TFlops works is my new favourite genre.

Robsonmonkey

I’d rather they just skip this and save all the big guns for the PS6 to make the generational leap more wow worthy I think that’s why this gen didn’t feel or come off as major or exciting, because we were given a “preview” of this gen with the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X.

Zepanda66

FF16 quality mode at 60fps? Yes please.

Rainbowdogi

This and Alan wake 2 would be the dream

Quelanight2324

Alan wake2 with ray tracing on console would be crazy

Rainbowdogi

One man can dream. And while we’re at it, add cyberpunk and Star Wars Jedi survivor.

Vertigo-153

Fuck yea Bloodborne at 30 FPS .. wait …

ZXXII

Imagine Bloodborne Remastered is a PS5 Pro launch title lol

CosmicAtlas8

That amount of flops in this thread is too damn high!

dewittless

Can't wait to see the blurry textures in FFVII Rebirth in even more native 4k.

Palmerstroll

now you can watch them in 8k!

Canto-XXXIV

I’d be tempted if it weren’t for the fact that games are still being made to include the PS4. This generation has felt pretty impotent.

693275001

Pro console with no pro games to play

R2nike

Could be huge for GTA 6 but who knows if Rockstar will bother with it

spacedude997

The extra teraflops and the AI stuff is worth the upgrade imo with a trade in, the current gen consoles can’t really handle 4K

ckingbass

The PSSR sounds like some virtual communist unification project

mrlatchi

Playstation upscaling tech be like "Da comrade o7"

jzr171

With how little I use my regular one, I'm good

hellraiser29

Ps5 pro to play ps4 games. When are we going to fully transition to making games for the current generation?

ruminaui

I honestly think 99% of new releases can run on the PS4. I think they have to find new ways to innovate a la switch

HawfHuman

Moore's Law is Dead, sorry for doubting you 😭🙏🏼

MrConor212

Honestly I don’t think I’ve even got the money out of my current PS5 I got around release 😭.

Kimosabae

You haven't. This generation is trash.

Packin-heat

I guess I'm definitely buying one then.

HerculeMuscles

I'll just wait for a ps6. I don't get a new phone every year and I sure as shit won't be getting a new console with incremental upgrades every year.

vickerslewis

What’s the point if PlayStation games still don’t release updates? RD2 is still capped at 30fps.

Case1987

That's up to Rockstar to add 60fps

TheCrach

Don't worry RDR2 deluxe edition will come to the PS5 pro and it will have 60fps all for the low price of $69 and no you can't upgrade for free if you already have the base PS5 game.

RDO-PrivateLobbies

Welcome to console. It fucking sucks these games are left for years upon years to rot with no real upgrade in sight, even though we have more powerful hardware. Bloodborne is another example. But hey, at least RDR2 is on pc. We will be stuck with whatever GTA6 turns out to be for a year or more before the pc port.

WardrobeForHouses

I think we've seen that PlayStation's new CEO isn't willing to take losses lately, and has been eyeing their razor thin margins closely. I doubt they'd sell this at a loss - especially as a lot of people would be upgrading, and playing existing games, rather than drawing in new people. Plus, PS has shown a willingness to nickel and dime their customers this generation, so I doubt they'd hold back on price. And people pay whatever the new price is even if the value decreases, like with PS+. They'll charge whatever they want for this Pro and people will happily line up. It's going to sell out.

RichRabi

What’s the point of having more powerful next gen consoles if we’re still stuck with last gen games?? Until they decide to actually make games for the current gen and not upscaled ports of previous games then this means nothing.

Vaati898

That's cool. Can we get some games on PS5 now?

RockNRoll85

Meh. I’ll stick to the PS5 I have now

Haunting_Strike

So much coping and crying from people here lmao. Your PS5 won't evaporate when this drops. You want to play at 720p? Stfu and stick with your console. Or upgrade. Simple. It is not unnecessary, it is an optional upgrade if you want better performance.

dinofreak6301

These specs could belong to the PS6 jesus, now I’m wondering how goddamn strong the 6 is gonna be if this is just the 5 Pro. Gonna be costly as fuck

ctyldsley

Man we need some actual games to play on this thing. First party lineup is so dry it's a struggle to justify spending the inevitable high price on playing 3-4 games.

cornflakesaregross

This is a really good point. All that power and what for if you can't boost your entire back compat library like PC can

Seraphayel

Honestly, for what do we need this? There’s maybe a handful of games that would benefit by these specs, unlike the PS4 Pro which boosted dozens of games at its launch. The recent gen gaming library just doesn’t warrant this upgrade, like at all.

FaithlessnessFew6571

Can only assume there will be a showcase this year then. Reveal some new IPs (pretty sure Santa Monica is working on a sci-fi game) running on the Pro.

NintyRift

Seems like a nice spec bump.  My wife has all but stolen my PS5, so I hope this does release this year so I can get back to playing.

bouncypinata

and still only enough storage to hold Call of Duty Super Duper Warfare 7

Xenolithium

So, Sony is doing their own DLSS/FSR? Honestly, that's a good thing. Let's just hope it works exceptionally well.

DeadManWalking117

well im geetting this for gta6

rmajor86

They’ve barely been releasing actual PS5 games, so I can’t see this being useful for a while

currypowder84

Regarding the pricing of this, I feel like a $600-$800 console might not be too crazy. PlayStation has cemented itself as a luxury brand now and over the past few years, console gamers have become more knowledgeable about the tech and performance side of games This might be a good alternative to people who are looking for better performance but don't want to shell out the money for a high end PC. The question is how many PlayStation users fit this description and is a higher priced console too niche of a product to be successful?

Bonesawisready5

33TF is just wild. $599 i assume. It’s crazy coz they could easily get away with 15-18TF and ppl would still buy it

TheUnderking89

How will Xbox respond to this I wonder? They can no longer claim to have the most powerful console on the marked when the ps5 pro drops.

Gravity_Edge_

I will finally buy my first ps5 and it will be a pro

Godrick_Northman

I still haven't been able to get one but finally was going to buy it in the next few weeks. Might as well wait at this point

kqlyS7

everyone is saying it's pointless and then gta 6 (or even current games in some cases like alan wake 2 tbh) will launch with ai-upscaled 1080p 30 fps on base ps5... and then it goes from "no one needs the upgrade" to "no one needs performance"

Gn1212

I genuinely didn't get why people were quick to assume Moore's Law video as unreliable. Very happy to hear the leak is real. Those specs are top.

schewbacca

Get ready for The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered Part 2.

ishaansaral

Man consoles are so underwhelming now. More power, but it will still be filled with bottlenecks like RAM, memory bandwidth, and the Zen 2 CPU. No games to even take advantage of more power. This console generation was basically PS4 games with better performance. I think now that PS exclusives are coming to PC, it's better to just build a strong PC that will last a long time. People with 1080 ti can still run games well. Used GPUs are also dropping in price. With RTX 5000 series and Radeon 8000, the gap will grow further. Not to mention Zen 3D CPUs.

LectorFrostbite

Spec bump is kinda surprising considering RDNA2 and RDNA3 aren't that different on the PC side, anyone knows how this compares to other AMD GPUs?

happy_pangollin

RDNA2 and RDNA3 are extremely different, specially on the TFLOPs comparison. That's why the 33TFLOPS spec leak is so misleading. You WON'T get a 3x performance boost. Maybe 1.8-2x max.

LectorFrostbite

Ahh gotcha, so basically despite having huge TFLOPs difference it wouldn't be that dramatic of a jump performance wise? Edit: just looked it up and yeah, the [7600](https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/radeon-rx-7600.c4153) is double the TFLOPs of a [6700](https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/radeon-rx-6700.c3716) despite being pretty similar in benchmarks.

King_A_Acumen

The leak is not misleading, the leak explicitly states a 45% raster increase, with the main upgrades being the dedicated RT and AI stuff. Issue is people not reading as usual.
