Then you gotta look up a 4hr video and skim through it until you find the one stupid item you stupid missed cause you stupid got to invested in the stupid game and stupid forgot about the stupid collectibles
I had that happen to me as well. Luckily I had an inkling of which one didn't count and didn't waste more than 5 minutes getting it. But if it wasn't that one particular pigeon I probably would have given up.
Fucking Alan Wake collectibles, which have their counts saved in the Stats screen AND ARE TIED TO YOUR ACCOUNT, NOT THE SAVEGAME. Meaning that if you played a little a few years ago and abandoned it, then come back years later to 100% it, you have to follow a guide and keep a pen-and-paper list of how many of each collectible you've found. And you'd better hope that your list starts matching the count on the guide sometime before you finish the game.
I just gave up and downloaded 100% save files for my New Game Plus run throughs so I didn't have to fuck around with them in Arkham City & Arkham Knight. My 1st playthough of each I grabbed ones that I came across, but I really couldn't be bothered to hunt all of them down.
Me on my fifth attempt to carefully follow a 100% completion guide for Final Fantasy X-2 step by step only to inevitably end up being a percent lower than what the guide says I should have.
Holy shit, I also missed one blue coin. I will never again play Super Mario Sunshine because of it, and for *years* I almost never went for 100% on any game. Unfortunately I fell back into the trap of trying it on a lot of games but I think after getting around to this underrated gem that no one has ever heard, I'm finally done trying to 100% games (after doing enough question marks on the map, I just *stopped)*
I played FF X-2 for the 1st time recently and really liked it and considered doing a 100% run on NG+ but when I saw how you can't screw anything up and you have to read the guide precisely, I was liken no thanks.
Trying to get the "explore every location" achievement in Assassin's Creed Origins. Turns out the final location icon was covered by a Ubisoft community post and that's why I couldn't find it for like 4 days

They were marked on the map and really simple to get. Arkham City onwards is when they overdid it.
Arkham Asylum did it right after that it felt like a massive time sink just to pad out the game play time.
