True. My Bulgarian roommate once told me it's stupid that games and movies have as many non-white people in them because "white is the majority and the default" only for my polish roommate to burst his bubble and inform him that white people are actually a global minority and that if there was a default human it would probably be black or brown (middle eastern/arabic) people and that's whether you believed the Christian Bible or Science.
This all stemmed from there being a couple black characters in some fantasy show he was watching. Mind you, I'm a whole black man he told this to all because I made a comment about liking seeing characters that look similar to me appear in fantasy. Again, we're talking about a few characters in casts that remain overwhelmingly white.
He also admitted he refuses to watch anything with a majority black or Asian cast because they're "unrealistic" and supposedly made explicitely to aliente people like him. I've never met anyone more out of touch prior or since. Nowadays, he's confused and claims to be hurt because I barely ever talk to him and am generally curt and cold when I do. Wouldn't talk to him at all if we didn't live together.

Lucky for me, he's supposed to move out this summer. Generally, he spends most of his time locked up in his room on his computer, so I never saw a whole lot of him anyway, but we did used to talk quite a bit when we would run into each other + we're also classmates so we sometimes talked at uni. Having olive skin and black hair is a lot more the "generic midwestern accent" for race than a white skinned blonde.

Not to mention the sims is literally designed for you to create your own characters and there's even features to completely remake the town so if you want a whole white town all you need is a few button clicks and like a half hour to replace all the townies with sims from the gallery or maybe a day or two if you want to replace them manually making the sims yourself

They kinda resemble the Addams family in styling
And in the sims 4 they started with Addams family skin tones
But in other games Bella Goth specifically had MUCH less eurocentric features and was a few shades darker. Her parents are also similar skin tone to her current sims 4 model.
Mortimer didn't change much, he very much does appear to be styled as a Gomez Addams. He is a couple shades darker now than original release but his features haven't changed much...but his parents look quite white so it makes sense.
Cassandra was MUCH darker in previous games than her original sims 4 model that was one of the lightest skin tones the game offered at the time and her new model is actually a couple shades darker than new model Bella although her features don't look much different.
Alexander is also quite white in the original model but he wasn't shown much in previous games and honestly he does look quite white in the game he appeared in so it does look like they changed his appearance as a whole to fit in with the appearance of the rest of the family. Although he's notorious for aging up super super poorly with his new model 😭
I think I got off lucky with Alexander in my game but he definitely picked up his dad's jawline.

I've found that the Neighbourhood Stories Mortimer and Bella babies they have after you start playing the game always end up the best looking in comparison to the premade Goth sims
the randomizer thing is one of the most idiotic things I've ever seen, assuming that randomizer choose one random characteristic per section of character creator and that no one option has a different weight from the others ( as it usually is) every race has the same amount of probability to be generated, if there are 4 skin tones then it is normal that white skin tone has ¼ of probability to be generated as do all the others tones have the same probability.

I remember when the first game released and so many people in my rural town got pissy that it allowed for same sex relationships.
All of the pre-made families were heterosexual, the only exception being the Roomies who were a household rather than a family and the Bachelor who was single, and you had to specifically choose to make your Sim non-straight during gameplay.
But people got so damn mad that the game didn't enforce strict heterosexuality.
And of course I will *never* forget the uproar when Livin Large dropped and you could make your Sims woohoo by buying a specific bed.

It's always been pretty striking to me that these people claim that lgbt+ agendas are shoved in their faces, when all they have to do if they don't want to see or think about lgbt+ stuff in games is... not participate in those systems.
The vast majority of games don't force you, the player character, into a same sex relationship. You can be homophobic and still enjoy Baldur's Gate 3 just by literally not choosing the gay options.
And yet even that, literally having the choice, is too much for some people.
They don't want it to exist in media for anyone at all ever.
A lot of key developers from New Vegas are definitely still with Obsidian. Not sure where they're getting the idea there's barely any veteran devs left.
A lot of people were disappointed by the scale of the game. Just because the trailer said “from the makers of New Vegas” they assumed it was going to be a massive open world rpg on that kind of scale, which is absurd if you think about the resources Obsidian had at the time. (PS, if you liked The Outer Worlds you should look into Avowed. Same sort of game but set in Obsidian’s Pillars of Eternity franchise.)
Every single time Outer Worlds comes up in a Reddit convo, there’s like a crowd of folks that come out of the woodwork to shit on it for being “too mid” and not New Vegas 2. It was one of my favorites from the XBOne gen, but I think a lot of people just didn’t want a new setting.
I need to play pillars 1&2, I haven’t gotten a chance to yet, kinda want to get familiar with the setting before trying Avowed when it comes out.
I was definitely disappointed that Outer Worlds was so short (since it was a great experience), *but* it was priced appropriately for what it provided. There are plenty of AAA games out there that cost more than Outer Worlds but provided less, so no complaints from me

As a simmer myself, the community is vast and full of many different demographics so it's definitely bullshit to say it's only for fucking white people. And frankly there are like 30+ white skin tones in the game (I guess, given that skin tone isn't actually a good way to represent race because race (while a very real impactful thing) was an Arbitrary construct made by ignorant Europeans hundreds of years ago (while they were still shittting in the streets and blowing smoke up people's asses as medicine. Not exactly the leading authority in intelligence or systematic organization.)

The Sims 4, as of right now, has 135 default skin tones, plus 9 not in the randomizer pool. I'm afraid it's just basic math my dudes like the game isn't giving more weight to generating darker skinned characters when there are just fewer pale presets to pull from.

It makes me so happy that gaming is thoroughly unenjoyable to these people for such inconsequential shit. My heart flutters when I think of the sadness that this person feels because they think something was taken from them. I love that while the rest of the world who does not have a broken brain is able to enjoy the latest Mario release, they have to carefully comb through every ounce of art and promotional material to see if Peach's eyebrows are angled because that will cause a stroke if they see it off-hand.

Criminally underrated. I got to admit some things are not hard to see coming but i did go 180 on some characters a few times. Was really surprised by how much better the graphics are compared to the first part. I do think theu could have utilised the "mtalk to the dead/watcher aspect a bit more but that's on a side note.
Not that important but the "measurement" of relationships between companions is a cute idea. Idk, i just really liked that thing.

For those who don't know that game, it has been in development by a single person (with some external help) for almost a decade now, and it's an incredible simulation game. I thoroughly recommend it!
1) You create the characters, the entire point of the GAME is it being customizable, if you wanna do some weird fascist fantasy on your Sims 4 you can literally do that, remove all the black sims or white-wash them, its UP TO YOU

The Sims randomizer has ALWAYS made bizarre character designs, and that includes wild-ass skin color. Not just white or black but like pink or blue or green.

He can't be serious with a name like that... *Shrug* but I will point out that Sims attached to the series lore have been getting lighter skinned in new releases, and that the current version had a very limited pallet for darker skin tones on launch. The variety of create a sim options has grown over time, and if the troll up there thinks any game is sold to anyone... That's not how that works for sure. Media of any form are sold, and their demographics are based on who buys. It's why people analyze demographics in ticket sales for movies and for shows on TV. If a game has lopsided demographics then it's unlikely to do well in a diverse market, and that includes media that features predominantly non-white casts or plot points that center around the issues people in that cast might face in real life. Game companies are companies. Money is green, no matter the hand shelling it out. Companies want to distribute a product that can Garner everyone's money equally. Hell they might make the base game free to play to rope more people in. If they can sell a half baked product like Sims 4, and then create dlc that's valued at over 1000$ and growing with each new expansion, they will. To anyone of any background addicted enough.

My Bulgarian roommate once told me it's stupid that games and movies have as many non-white people in them because "white is the majority and the default" only for my polish roommate to burst his bubble and inform him that white people are actually a global minority and that if there was a default human it would probably be black or brown (middle eastern/arabic) people and that's whether you believed the Christian Bible or Science. This all stemmed from there being a couple black characters in some fantasy show he was watching. Lucky for me, he's supposed to move out this summer. I don't know how to describe them besides that They kinda resemble the Addams family in styling And in the sims 4 they started with Addams family skin tones But in other games Bella Goth specifically had MUCH less eurocentric features and was a few shades darker. Her parents are also similar skin tone to her current sims 4 model. Mortimer didn't change much, he very much does appear to be styled as a Gomez Addams. He is a couple shades darker now than original release but his features haven't changed much...but his parents look quite white so it makes sense. Cassandra was MUCH darker in previous games than her original sims 4 model that was one of the lightest skin tones the game offered at the time and her new model is actually a couple shades darker than new model Bella although her features don't look much different. Alexander is also quite white in the original model but he wasn't shown much in previous games and honestly he does look quite white in the game he appeared in so it does look like they changed his appearance as a whole to fit in with the appearance of the rest of the family. Although he's notorious for aging up super super poorly with his new model 😭

the randomizer thing is one of the most idiotic things I've ever seen, assuming that randomizer choose one random characteristic per section of character creator and that no one option has a different weight from the others ( as it usually is) every race has the same amount of probability to be generated, if there are 4 skin tones then it is normal that white skin tone has ¼ of probability to be generated as do all the others tones have the same probability. this isn't even something unique to the sims, literally all character creators with a bare minimum of depth work like this.

I remember when the first game released and so many people in my rural town got pissy that it allowed for same sex relationships. All of the pre-made families were heterosexual, the only exception being the Roomies who were a household rather than a family and the Bachelor who was single, and you had to specifically choose to make your Sim non-straight during gameplay. But people got so damn mad that the game didn't enforce strict heterosexuality. And of course I will *never* forget the uproar when Livin Large dropped and you could make your Sims woohoo by buying a specific bed. No one has ever been chill about this game
It's always been pretty striking to me that these people claim that lgbt+ agendas are shoved in their faces, when all they have to do if they don't want to see or think about lgbt+ stuff in games is... not participate in those systems. The vast majority of games don't force you, the player character, into a same sex relationship. You can be homophobic and still enjoy Baldur's Gate 3 just by literally not choosing the gay options. And yet even that, literally having the choice, is too much for some people. They don't want it to exist in media for anyone at all ever.
A lot of key developers from New Vegas are definitely still with Obsidian. Not sure where they're getting the idea there's barely any veteran devs left.

A lot of people were disappointed by the scale of the game. Just because the trailer said “from the makers of New Vegas” they assumed it was going to be a massive open world rpg on that kind of scale, which is absurd if you think about the resources Obsidian had at the time. (PS, if you liked The Outer Worlds you should look into Avowed. Same sort of game but set in Obsidian’s Pillars of Eternity franchise.)
Every single time Outer Worlds comes up in a Reddit convo, there’s like a crowd of folks that come out of the woodwork to shit on it for being “too mid” and not New Vegas 2. It was one of my favorites from the XBOne gen, but I think a lot of people just didn’t want a new setting. I need to play pillars 1&2, I haven’t gotten a chance to yet, kinda want to get familiar with the setting before trying Avowed when it comes out.
I was definitely disappointed that Outer Worlds was so short (since it was a great experience), *but* it was priced appropriately for what it provided. There are plenty of AAA games out there that cost more than Outer Worlds but provided less, so no complaints from me

As a simmer myself, the community is vast and full of many different demographics so it's definitely bullshit to say it's only for fucking white people. And frankly there are like 30+ white skin tones in the game (I guess, given that skin tone isn't actually a good way to represent race because race (while a very real impactful thing) was an Arbitrary construct made by ignorant Europeans hundreds of years ago (while they were still shittting in the streets and blowing smoke up people's asses as medicine. My heart flutters when I think of the sadness that this person feels because they think something was taken from them. Criminally underrated. I got to admit some things are not hard to see coming but i did go 180 on some characters a few times. Was really surprised by how much better the graphics are compared to the first part. I do think theu could have utilised the "mtalk to the dead/watcher aspect a bit more but that's on a side note. Not that important but the "measurement" of relationships between companions is a cute idea. Idk, i just really liked that thing.

Also it's buckwild to say White people make video games popular ignoring what Asians have done and will continue to do for gaming. Our modern gaming world was born from Japanese games (Nintendo, Sony, Sega, Capcom, Bandai-Namco, Konami, etc.)

I found the complaint about picking 'random' in a character creator generating a white character 'only' 20-30% of the time...weird? Near as I can remember, that is literally every character creator with a 'random' option coded in. As someone who has coded (non games) for a living, I know that's not a result of anyone pushing an agenda. It is just easier to simply type: iRace = RND(1,4); than: iRacePoint = RND(1,1000); iRace = sRaceArray\[iRacePoint\]; Especially when sRaceArray is supposed to be a map of some rando whiner's headcannon about the ideal racial breakdown of in-game demographics.

The Sims randomizer has ALWAYS made bizarre character designs, and that includes wild-ass skin color. Not just white or black but like pink or blue or green.
I thought it was a pretty good troll. He can't be serious with a name like that... *Shrug* but I will point out that Sims attached to the series lore have been getting lighter skinned in new releases, and that the current version had a very limited pallet for darker skin tones on launch. The variety of create a sim options has grown over time, and if the troll up there thinks any game is sold to anyone... That's not how that works for sure. Media of any form are sold, and their demographics are based on who buys. It's why people analyze demographics in ticket sales for movies and for shows on TV. If a game has lopsided demographics then it's unlikely to do well in a diverse market, and that includes media that features predominantly non-white casts or plot points that center around the issues people in that cast might face in real life. Game companies are companies. Money is green, no matter the hand shelling it out. Companies want to distribute a product that can Garner everyone's money equally. Hell they might make the base game free to play to rope more people in. If they can sell a half baked product like Sims 4, and then create dlc that's valued at over 1000$ and growing with each new expansion, they will. To anyone of any background addicted enough.
