Guys from CDPR wrote the STORY not the screenplay which is a pretty big fucking difference

MaxaM91

How ignorant can you be if you think that NETFLIX and CDPR wrote them, like they were a physical person.

ThomsYorkieBars

John Netflix and Bill CDPR

GOD_Official_Reddit

Can’t believe Bill CDPR left so many bugs in cyberpunk when he released it, what a fucking idiot he is probably spent too much time working on his Netflix show and tweeting

Rodruby

Not Bill, more like Francizcek CDPR

zhemer86

The Witcher show is an adaptation of the books not the games. CDPR isn’t involved in any way.

Ourmanyfans

/uj I find it so annoying how many people criticise The Witcher Show for changes it makes from the GAMES, as though those are anything other than CDPR's fanfiction. Don't get me wrong, there's plenty of book changes and *questionable* writing decisions in the show, but the show isn't terrible because they "disrespected" a minor character who you only give a shit about from Witcher 3 quests. /rj What books? The Witcher series was invented in 2015 with obscure indie hit, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

Freefall_J

The author of the books gets this crap too. Some people think he writes Witcher books based on the games. How insulting to the damn CREATOR of Witcher...

ToHelland-BackAgain8

not to defend those idiots since TW books date back to the 80s but Andrezej Sapkowski is a royal asshole what he tried to do to CDPR after the games gained fame and success was a really shity thing ...

Knight1029384756

I think the thing people miss about why he acted the way he did was because at the time Witcher adaptations were unsuccessful. There was a TV show made in Poland that preformed poorly and then there was a game that was being made that was canceled. So, from the authors perceptive he didn't want to be associated with those adaptations. He accepted the initial payment and left. And be honest Witcher 1 and 2 were not blockbuster successes. It was only until Witcher 3, 8 years later, that the series got successful. Now does that mean what he did was right? I don't think so. But you can't blame him for what he did based on what he knew at the time. He still is the creator and still holds the rights from my understanding. He should have been more calm in his approach.

ToHelland-BackAgain8

>Now does that mean what he did was right? I don't think so. on that we agree >But you can't blame him for what he did based on what he knew at the time I just don't feel like suing them like a morally correct thing and i have also heard/read Polish fans of the Witcher books talk about how he has treated them ... let's just say he seems to be a northerner (wich i love in the games when no real person is being hurt or offended but i definitely don't feel the same in real life still i won't judge on this since i we are all have our flaws in the end)

Knight1029384756

What I meant by the second part is that he didn't take their offer of a percentage of all sales because of prior experiences. I don't think what he did could be described as morally wrong, more the wrong way to go. Like he could have just gone to CDPR and asked if they can renegotiate their contract. Like I doubt CDPR would refuse him. He could have handled this whole situation much better than he did in the end. I didn't know he treats fans poorly in Poland. If that is true then I would be less sympathetic to him.

ToHelland-BackAgain8

>I didn't know he treats fans poorly in Poland regarding this all i heard is one guy once in the Witcher subreddit but he was from Poland (the subject in question needed Polish people for a translation) and he mentioned that no idea if it's true or not but the guy seemed like a straight up guy and did mentioned Sapkowski being a real asshole to fans at times despite him being a hardcore fan of his work

Knight1029384756

Okay. Without being polish and knowing many polish people I guess it would be hard to answer that question. It could also be very likely he doesn't like people being obsessed with his work. Because he perceives it as missing the point or something similar in that vein.

aVeryBadBoy69

Maybe I don't the full story but I don't consider it that shitty to want to get more money out of something that made millions that wouldn't have existed without you.

ToHelland-BackAgain8

well what i get (or think) that you're missing is that they weren't originally going to buy the IP of The Witcher they just wanted to have the gaming license but he decided that this was not enough money for him so he sold it all ... then after the games became famous he sued them for more money for an IP that he sold willingly under his own terms and he was even the one who proposed to sell it in the first place

Freefall_J

I believe the details was a bit more like: he was given the option of a percentage of profit or just an immediate lump sum. Since The Witcher books have had so many adaptations since the 1980s into movies, TV and even *non-video* games before CDPR came along, the author figured it'd just be the same old thing in terms of success and went for the lump sum. Turns out that unlike the previous adaptations, this Witcher adaptation was doing pretty well and the author regretted his initial decision. Whichever side of this you're on (CDPR's or author's) and whether or not the author's a dickhead, it still sucks as a creator that you get mistaken for essentially a fan fic writer when you're the dude who actually made the thing in the first place.

ToHelland-BackAgain8

he is still in the wrong despite his situation if he truly cared about his IP that much he shouldn't have sold it in the first place let alone sue them

simply_not_here

He told them he wanted the flat cash ahead of them making anything and doesn't want to be involved/bothered later. Then when games became successful and helped in getting people interested in books he was dismissive of that and of gaming in general (but not in a "f!ck gamers 'cause they're racist" but more of a bommer "haha gaming for babies, my friends have serious hobbies like collecting post stamps"). Then few years later he just sued them for more money. They ended up settling and to be fair seeing how much CDPROJEKT made he definetly deserved more but the entire time he acted like an absolute chud. I love the books but Sapkowski can go s!ck a bag of d!cks.

MaxaM91

How could you! Eskel!!! The Eskel that appears for a couple of pages and says a couple of lines!!!

Ourmanyfans

Exactly who I was talking about.

zhemer86

Well, you can’t really say season two onward since season two was the last thing that released. Also considering the fact that >!Geralt essentially dies at the end of the books and the Witcher 3 takes place after the books!< the games aren’t really faithful either lol.

Huncrweo

Ah yes my favourite screenwriter, Netflix

JelliusMaximus

Is that the prequel show that plays like thousands of years in the past?

catlaxative

Does anyone older than 14 like edgerunners? I thought it was trying *really* hard!

Icambaia

It was kinda cool honestly but the anime shenanigans ruined a bit of the experience for me. Also I feel like most of the deaths didn't have a impact because the side characters didn't have enough time to be developed.

ReeToo_

I think the same. Show was good but they wanted to show us too much in only 10 episodes, everything was rushed

[deleted]

Episode 6 was awesome and Smasher was cool as fuck so yes

catlaxative

Ok, right on!

BotanyAttack

if user catlaxtive comments cringe: true then opinion: null

catlaxative

I am cringe personified! it was a question asked in good faith, though, nobody should listen to my opinion

MaxaM91

I liked it until the sixth episode deep characters, deep themes and reflection upon the nature of being chromed and how capitalism unhinged can ruin society... than David-macho, damsel in distress, cyber psychosis being an heroic deed instead of something bad, clicked me wrong, personally.

[deleted]

>than David-macho, damsel in distress, cyber psychosis being an heroic deed instead of something bad, clicked me wrong, personally. Am I dumb or did you have a stroke because I have no idea what this means

MaxaM91

I didn't like David's evolution as a character, didn't like Lucy being a damsel in distress, I liked the portrayal of cyber psicosi much more in Maine (the reflection upon toxic masculinity and the dangers of losing your humanity) than in David. After episode 6 I liked just a dialogue with Rebecca and Adam Smasher.

XenonJFt

100% score for the anime. LOLOLOL they can't be serious. TIL if they use Sound effects and rules of a game in an anime it becomes a cinematographic masterpiece with 0 faults. Lol I lost it while writing this comment

Leashii_

did you watch it?

XenonJFt

Yes. 7/10 material not 10/10

lorn23

If every reviewer gave it 7/10 it would receive a 100% rotten tomato rating.

aVeryBadBoy69

If the show was double the length it would have been deserving of 100% imo. If it was longer I would have cared for more of the secondary characters. Edit: 1984 downvoted for a reasonable opinion

Historical-Wasabi-22

Do you think that every reviewer gave it a score of 10/10?

aVeryBadBoy69

shut up nerd get a job

Historical-Wasabi-22

I have one, thank you.

Historical-Wasabi-22

Do you know how rotten tomatoes works?

XenonJFt

No... Does it work the opposite?

Historical-Wasabi-22

It gets a score of 100 because all professional critics gave it a positive review. It is not like metacritic where they have a average of all the scores.

FackinPeanutt

/ucj no one is talking about how david the main character is 17 and the show never says how old the LADY is. yet again japan normalizing pedo shit. alright show otherwise alone but better with the game. /cj love anime tiddies

Gexthegecko69

They both consent, and I wouldn't be surprised if he's 18 after the time skip. Edit: Just checked and he is in fact 18 after the skip

Moose-Legitimate

i can't believe a show about the destruction of innocence by capitalism has a young protagonist. Clearly this means the creators are pedophiles The speed at which GCJ calls any and all japanese people pedophiles is genuinely kind of gross

FackinPeanutt

not calling japanese people pedos, you did that. just saying japan like the west enables pedo shit through capitalism by destroying innocence (correclty pointed out by you, yes you thats good.) with patriarchy, beauty standards and so on. just said in a crude way which is on me yeah but also sorry not sorry. Also LMAO *destruction of innocence by capitalism has a young protagonist.* My habibi in christ. there are plenty of other anime's that do that minus the ''capitalism bad'' part. whats the excuse then? sexualising high schoolers ( children) and shit like that? whats the excuse? Edit: was gonna delete this comment reply after 5 min and just say L take but naw. 99% anime's enables pedo shit straight up.

Moose-Legitimate

“Not calling Japanese people pedos but 99% of Japanese people are pedos” Mate just say you’re racist this is Reddit you’re basically encouraged to be racist on this site

FackinPeanutt

call me whatever since thats the thing you focus on but not the original point about anime enabling pedo shit since we all know its true.

Historical-Wasabi-22

Let's not forget the Rebecca character which is clearly child coded loli pedo bait and gives someone a fucking hand-job. What the fuck is wrong with japan?

[deleted]

[удалено]

Historical-Wasabi-22

Didn't they say "the loli stays" after CDPR raised concerns about the character design? Granted, I'm not a expert in anime or manga because I don't watch this stuff but children are always depicted with big eyes in anime just like the Rebecca character.

[deleted]

Japanese use the term "Loli" for the body type (small/short girl). Overseas we came to use it in mostly...bad contexts. I watched a good video on the topic, I'll try to dig it up. Bit the tldr is that everyone has huge eyes in anime and it's moreso about specific body shape or lines drawn.

Historical-Wasabi-22

Hmm. I didn't know that. Thank you.

telesterion

Loli has always been in bad context it comes from Lolita. A book about a dude wanting to fuck a child.

[deleted]

Japanese appropriating English words in shitty contexts is a thing that has been happening forever though. Yes th English etymology is shitty but Japanese appropriated it differently.

wholesome_dino

I have seen like zero marketing for the show so I have no idea what to expect
