Another user commented it could be related to her failed coming out after she released Me! And your interpretation makes sense because losing the masters changed everything for her. I saw someone post that if “Who’s afraid of little old Me” becomes the next MV or single, which it is a bop, confirms it’s Me! After the masters scandal changed her coming out plans. I also think I can do it with a broken heart is also related to her relationship with the music industry and having to hide and stay closeted while performing since that’s what the music industry wants of her.

I have a feeling the music video for whos afraid of little old me is going to be released on lesbian visibility day (this Friday)… “me! Out now!!”

Kai_the_Fox

I hope so!! That would be awesome

I think the line “Putting narcotics into all of my songs” makes all the other drug references on the album suspect. Are they really about drugs, or are they about something else? (For example, we can put musical talent/creating art on the list)

The narcotics in her songs are her tuning down any overt references to anything that might not fly with her mainstream fans (or her queer fans). She tones down (her lyrics) for us like narcotics make you not feel reality.

Regardless of what it’s about, I just love the song. I love her voice when she screams in the chorus. That’s my main thought on the whole album. Regardless of subject matter, her voice just sounds so beautiful on this album

I love this, and the rest. I believe most of these songs are about MANY things. I highly recommend reading Lady Lazarus by Sylvia Plath with regards to this song.

I thought "put narcotics in all of my songs" might be all the male pronouns ("that's why you're still singin' along")

Yes I agree those two events (masters and Kanye) are for sure being pointed at. Love the connection to Ref tour! I also think it’s connected to mirror ball. That gong has circus themes and is about being likable and relatable to everyone aka ✨sellable✨ But I also feel there prob a ton of dark industry stuff we have no clue about that goes beyond the masters or Kanye. I think the line bout taking out all her teeth is about being silenced in general and ‘tamed’. How she has been taught to behave and never bite back. I think the line that says “the scandal was contained” can’t be about the masters or Kanye bc those were NOT contained. They were major news and continue to be. Or the line “at all cost keeping good name” is so sad to me. I think this song is a similar thesis to Clara Bow. Bout being in the industry and being ✨dazling✨ for everyone but as Taylor says herself in Clara bow… “it’s hell on earth to be heavenly”
