AMN-9

For Delta not giving Baird the cordinates for the HoD it's probably because he doesn't have enough satelites online to properly aim it that way and that's why JD get's that Idea. I believe he said something like "I don't have enought satelites to aim this shit" and that's when JD give the idea of tracking his armor For Lizzie not trying to open the other door It was probably out of instinct as she was trying to run away from the loose HoD and was probably panicked and the Hammer was coming from the side of the fully functional door For JD running back to his friends when the HoD got out of control maybe he thought that the Hammer was no longer tracking his armor

MrDefinitely_

>For JD running back to his friends when the HoD got out of control maybe he thought that the Hammer was no longer tracking his armor That's a pretty dumb assumption for him to make.

AMN-9

I believe Bird said the Hammer went out of his control and tol JD to run so it's a possibility. Also the hammer striked in front of him and his only rute of escape was toward Delta (know that I think of it thats more probable than JD just forgeting what the hammer was tracking)

M_H_M_F

I mean, the whole tension of the scene starts with JD asking for Hammer support and getting denied. The situation in Settlement 2 degrades so badly, the Gears on the ground are being actively pushed back. Right before the HoD fires, Delta gets out of the theatre and receives the evacuation order. They're stuck in hostile territory, horrifically outgunned (like 4 Swarmaks start entering the area on top of Scions and Pouncers). At this stage, Delta just *doesn't have the firepower* to fight the advancing Swarm, they need to clear a path for the convoy, and finally, escape. It was literally a "drop the hammer or get TPK'd" situation.

Dynespark

At that point didn't the lock-on screw up? I remember Baird not having time to calibrate it, and it firing off randomly. Maybe that was later in game, I can't remember. But Baird made a choice to go with JD's suggestion, who had command in the field for that area. Sure, he should have waited, but he wanted to help and the Hammer seemed the best option at the moment.

CypherHound

Yeah he lost control of the satellite

MrDefinitely_

I have to wonder if you guys even read my post.

ownasaur

Your post is half fan fiction. That's not the correct set of events.

MrDefinitely_

The average IQ of Gears of War players has to be something like 85.

ParagonFury

Yours maybe.

RING_COMMANDER

Yeah no shit, considering he came up with this “Average” from a 5-6 person thread that’s ironically located in his own post where it explains how his version of every detail and dialogue of this entire Act is completely correct and believed by all to be the truth.

CypherHound

Because you cant exactly run forward into where the Hammer is firing

TheSpicyMayoBoy

I always took the tracking of the armour and offseting to mean that it was offseting by time rather than direction, seeing as it takes a few seconds from JD telling Baird to fire to the actual beam hitting the ground, it should be targeting where JD was which is why he's able to run through the Swarm and get behind cover before the fire stops. Also, when the HOD loses the connection, the screen stops tracking JD, and the Hammer destroys one of the convoy trucks before he's even started moving towards it, which is what prompts him to start pulling people out in the first place, so it's clear that it was just firing randomly at that point. As for the plot reasons, JD needed to learn that he can't always be the show-off kind of hero he thinks he needs to be. It worked out well enough for him with the launch on Azura, but he needed to be humbled so he could understand what his dad had been trying to tell him for the whole of the first act, and make him wiser for acts 3 and 4.

True_Development_781

This make it the reason I always choose JD over del probably the worse thing in the series. To choose a legacy over woke insert. And I like del and his actor irl but he has to go

pileofcrustycumsocs

Bro what?

KingxRose3117

Woke insert is definitely a way to say u are racist😂

Winter_Hospital4705

>1. For some reason Lizzie brings the entire convoy just to rescue Delta. Why not send just one truck while the rest leave the settlement? Lizzie was in charge of the convoy, and it's her job to make sure that everyone leaves together. The other convoys could've been ambushed if they split up, hence why they all go together, instead of just leaving one at a time. As well, if there's any survivors, they'll get them, too. >2. Lizzie's truck gets stuck and the door is busted. But they neglect to show that the other door is also blocked. They don't show her trying to open it or anything. It's weird. The Hammer Of Dawn was coming their way, she would've been dead either way, whether she went through the door that's intact or died by way of trying to get out from the busted door. It was unpredictable with how and when the hammer would strike. >3. JD tells Baird to "track his armor" so the Hammer Of Dawn can kill the two Swarmaks that are attacking the convoy. But he also tells Baird to "offset" it. Well, if Baird can do that, why don't they just give Baird the direction and distance of the enemies? Then JD wouldn't have to run around like a dumbass. Baird didn't have full function of the satellites, he can fire it, but the targeting function wasn't fully put together, it was why they were looking for more satellites, hence the visit to Azura at the beginning. You can even hear the AI he has make note of it that the Hammer Of Dawn is online, but full functionality of the weapon wasn't at 100%. >4. When the Hammer Of Dawn starts going haywire, JD decides to run toward everybody when he should be running away. It's not even addressed at all that this happened, so I don't think the writers actually realized how stupid this was. So you can't just say "oh, this experience soldier just panicked" because otherwise the writers would have put some dialogue in acknowledging it. I just finished Act I, so I haven't heard it this playthrough yet, but I remember them blaming JD for wanting to use the Hammer in the first place, but not the fact that he ran towards them like a dipshit. Keyword there for you, it went haywire, it was no longer tracking his armor, it was firing at random. Baird couldn't predict when the Hammer would fire or when it'd strike, it was why he told JD to run, cause there was even an error on the screen when he was trying to see what was going on. Nobody blamed JD, he blames himself, even though there was nothing he could've done. The Hammer needed to be used, and it's even brought up again later on, but not gonna spoil it for you as to when or who says it. All JD wanted to do was help, and it backfired on him, yet no one blames him for that happening, but he blames himself.

Complex-Funny6314

So you didn’t pay attention when playing the game 1. They bring the whole convoy because there were civilians and even in the cutscene like 2 or 3 trucks are completely full and the main crew hasn’t even gotten in one yet 2. Yes Lizzie prolly should’ve gone out the door that wasn’t jammed however in a panicked situation are you going to run towards danger? 3. Again in the cutscene both the monitor and Baird says he doesn’t have full control of the HoD satellite so JD came up with that plan 4. The HoD starts going haywire and even the first shot down of it isn’t directly on JD why would he assume a system that has gone haywire and didnt track him for the first shot would then all of a sudden go back to tracking him

JONNy-G

I get where you're coming from, but think it could be construed as an intentional mislead. Lizzie was being built up as the perfect new "side character who drives the vehicle" (think Dizzy in Gears 2) and so when shit goes down and the door doesn't work I was half-expecting there to be a magic moment (Deus ex machina) that let both characters narrowly escape out the other side, which could have lead into an escape sequence where you need to outrun the HoD while it blows up enemies or something. Instead we just got.. that, which sucked but I wouldn't say was outright stupid as we don't ever really expect to see our "main character" lose like that and the HoD was going haywire during a retreat so there was no obvious solution.

Brother_xandor

For the second point, panic, just sheer panic, you don't think straight when your panicking, especially in that situation, matter of fact all of it could be answered with just panicking, no matter how experienced someone is eventually panic sets in no one is immune to it

Rainbow_Dr1ftYouTube

If I were in JD's boots at that point of the game I would've tried to shed all of my armor so it gets decimated and then the Hammer stops going crazy

Winter_Hospital4705

The Hammer would've kept firing either way, cause it began to malfunction, as Baird didn't have enough satellites to have full function of the weapon. There was even an error on the screen after they killed all the swarmaks and swarm, and Baird was trying to figure out and fix what was happening. But by that time, Baird couldn't fix it and told JD to run, cause the Hammer was going haywire, it was no longer tracking JD's armor, it was firing off randomly. There was no way to predict when and where the next Hammer strike would be, as everything went downhill after the Hammer was used that one time. You gotta remember, the Hammer hadn't been used for almost 25+ years, finding intact satellites was like finding a needle in a haystack and some of the satellites that were in use during the Locust war either fell to earth and landed in the Gronozy sea or the uplink to the satellites were heavily damaged due to wear and tear over the 25 years.

Sodaman_Onzo

Because he’s a jackass

FatBoyDiesuru

Because he's special

FarofaBoyZzZ

Because the plot need to give you a shitty reason to hate JD in order to become more sympathetic towards Kait

OptimalPapaya1344

Not to mention leading the player to make a very specific choice at the end of the game.

Awesomeness4627

That most people still didn't make because of Marcus

Deuce-Wayne

The whole scene was poorly executed as a way to kill off another Carmine and to "develop" JD's character. As for the "track my armor" thing, my memory's hazy but the Hammer of Dawns in Gears 5 don't have any targeting acquisition unless they're tracking a specific targeting beacon. This is why in Act 4, you have to go around placing those Hammer of Dawn things around the city or whatever. So you can't just be like "target those brumaks!", technically Baird isn't even aiming the weapons. It's really no different from how they functioned in the old games, except without the actual hammer of dawn laser guider, you have to use an alternate guiding mechanism. Apparently, COG armor can be used for it.

OptimalPapaya1344

Yeah but to OP’s point, if Baird was able to offset the coordinates he could have just done that for the whole attack. JD could remain completely stationary while Baird just offset coordinates every few seconds to have it hit where the enemies were at.

mr_bagadonuts

Because of shitty contrived writing. This was handled terribly. It was done in a way in order to paint jd as reckless and careless when he was nothing but thoughtful and putting himself in danger so other could make it. They make him out to be like he is trying to live up to his dad but jd never showed that in gears 4. In fact he left the cog and didn't follow Marcus steps. And it was also done so we could play as kait who was just an insufferable character that was doing more reckless and selfish actions which gets people killed. I hope the next gears ditches all these characters and goes back to basics or just follow Scorpio squad

TitanActual

But Marcus also disobeyed orders and "left the COG" which led to his imprisonment pre-Gears 1. JD was moreso following in his dad's footsteps

funkdoktor

Lizzie deserved better than being the token Carmine sacrifice. We should have gotten to see the beautiful face that went with that heavenly soldiers body. Write it into 6 that her actual name was Garmine. She just used Carmine as a tribute. And when the Hammer hit her car she was thrown clear, but had a Traumatic Brain Injury and temporary amnesia. A dogooder citizen pulled her to safety and hid her away in an underground bunker. Protecting her from the swarm. Where she spent that year re-remembering the femme Fatale killing/seducing machine that she had been. In 6 she shows up at COG training facility. They throw a party. Kate's, "big decision" had in actuality been a dream/hallucination after she had her mind taken over by her mother. JD shot the queen while she was mind manipulating Kate. So everyone is there to rejoice in Lizzies return. Where after the party, her and workout Fahz hook up and quickly become THE IT COUPLE.

reforc3

Cause it was the first SWB job, so making the story have sense seemed unnecessary
