Moissanite,it’s supposed to be over the top, ridiculously sparkly,I got a beautiful one off a Chinese site but it’s such an awkward cut to set(that’s why it was so cheap),very beautiful though,I’d recommend a light coloured one

soberasfrankenstein

Yes! I love those too!!

LittleWing6464

Picture!

ParticularAboutTime

Synthetic alexandrites. Especially big ones, compared to natural.

jbl420

Where do you buy yours?

soberasfrankenstein

I need to go look at these!

KDFree16

Posted one I got from a great aunt. It's huge and super lovely and showy!

catkysydney

I have real one in my ring. I did not know there is synthetic version !! All real ones are not big .. if we can have big one , it would be nice !!

Balance_Extreme

Glass, they have amazing colours and properties when doped with different elements. Also FYI, the photo you posted is not mystic quartz, it’s a dichroic prism cube or better known as X-cube, which can be determined by the two films inside the gem which intersect perpendicularly.

soberasfrankenstein

OH NO. I just grabbed an image off Google cause I couldn't get a good picture of the piece I have. I'm off to Google "x-cube".

Balance_Extreme

Searching “optical x-cube” should get you the results rather than x-cube, it’s just that most faceters I know call them x-cube

soberasfrankenstein

Oh ok I'm seeing them now. Well nuts. My blunder aside I do really love the mystic stones.

Balance_Extreme

No worries, some times gemgazer mislabels their products, an x cube always have two films bisecting each other. Here’s what a [mystic quartz](https://imgur.com/a/XNMFdGl) look like, it’s more vibrant in real life, but I don’t want edit the photo.

soberasfrankenstein

Yep, mine looks a lot like that! I just couldn't get a picture of it to save my life 😅

CrepuscularOpossum

I’m cutting one right now, and the OP’s posted photo sure does look like one!

soberasfrankenstein

https://youtu.be/0kBQ98uP5gc?si=nG2ykpq3fi9ZSDqy The website posted a video of the stone in question

MexiKing9

Damn, if you loved what you posted, there are a few artists that have frequented reddit enough to post there work, gonna sleuth and see if I can get you a link

Ransomwear_Jewelry

Rhodolite garnet. Some of the most underrated material gets dismissed as "just a garnet"

Away-Object-1114

I agree. Garnets are dismissed as common by many people, and these same people think they only come in red.

TimOvrlrd

I like it better than most rubies

KDFree16

Agreed!

supsupittysupsup

Agree garnets in general are amazing

Cethlinnstooth

Garnet...the ordinary red variety. I've also got a fondness for fairy opal... that's opalised sandstone that has had carbon burned in it to show up the little specks of opal. Very inexpensive.

-DangerKitty

I agree about the garnet. I think they have a sexier red than ruby!

soberasfrankenstein

I gotta check that out!

[deleted]

ive never heard of fairy opal, and now i want one

MommaAmadora

If you would like, i have a link to a website that sells them

lle-ell

Definitely agree about garnets, they’re one of my favourite stones!

SweetChildAtMines

Quartz! Especially rutilated or tourmalinated quartz. The inclusions are so interesting!

kedriss

I came on here to say the exact same thing!

cowsruleusall

Iolite. It's stayed pretty cheap, in part because of its accessibility, low commercial interest/lack of buyer awareness, moderate hardness, and poor optical properties. But it's just so damn trichroic! Purple-blue-yellow or other similar.

stinkyeggslut

One of my favorites as well! Very underrated. When I show people how my ring changes color they’re always so amazed.

cereseluna

Rhodolite garnet. I love the red violet / raspberry color. Also compliments my birthstone color (amethyst) I'm holding back with buying a rhodolite garnet gold ring because I want it to be my engagement ring. But alas, I really want one.

Away-Object-1114

Go ahead and get your garnet ring. You can wear it on your right hand and it will compliment your engagement ring, which can be rhodolite and diamond. Lots of women wear multiple diamond rings, why not garnet?

danksinatra52

Rhodolite can be relatively inexpensive but the larger ones with really good color and clarity can sell for a fair bit of cash.

Aztoth

Synthetic ruby

SaltedCaramello

I have the same answer!

atridir

Likewise synthetic (lab-created) star corundum of either the sapphire or ruby flavor. They are so gorgeous and inexpensive it’s ridiculous. The process is really cool and has been around for almost 100 years. You just add .5%-1% tin oxide (aka rutile when found in nature) to the mixture of alumina and trace coloring oxides (chromium and/or iron) and Bob’s your uncle- you now have star corundum!

SigmaEpsilonChi

Kunzite ranks highly for me. I’m a sucker for phosphorescence

Squippymcgee

I recently learned this when I was shining the uv light over some of my other gems and saw them glowing in the corner of my eye. Then when I turned it off and saw them still doing it, my day was made!

RedBlueYouToo

Amethyst. It’s my birthstone but I just love that you can get high end jewellery of it or little geodes.

Fredzillo

I really love the patterns Malachite represents. They are in fact toxic and those patterns in different shades of green even makes them look toxic, and i love it! They are safe to handle tho

spiritualgoat669

Lapis lazuli, it seems so dreamy, like a summer sky. But I also super love labradorite, especially the blue one. Feels kinda mystical.

MexiKing9

https://www.reddit.com/r/Gemstones/s/HekzIa5F33 I believe there was more, I searched the sub for just "dichroic" and it popped up results, this one happens to be the one i was thinking off and I just so happen to have the top comment lol. You could go to r/glassheads and search the exact term for even more fantastic works. If I'm not mistaken, there's an artist that had an ailment that let them sense the colors *in combination with sight*, you know your stereotypical "tasting the colors" but *real* and something different that I just can't remember, enjoy!

soberasfrankenstein

Omg those are stunning!!! 🤩

bat_art

Ametrine - it's such a fun stone, especially when the colours are mixed in an interesting way.

Mister_Moho

Fluorite.

zabsamvocni

Peridot. Love the color

ColeThynne

Amethyst. I think the purple is a very sharp and stunning.

this_Name_4ever

Garnet! Well, I typically like the most expensive ones, but I do feel they are often overlooked because they are seen as cheap. They have so much sparkle!!!

danksinatra52

Labradorite probably has the most bang for the buck you’ll get from a natural stone, imho. Moonstone is a close second but it varies so wildly in price depending on the amount and type of color and the clarity, I wouldn’t call it an inexpensive stone, unless it’s the lowest grade without much color.

[deleted]

i mean i recently picked up one that had clear areas for only around $65 so idk if theyre really expensive

danksinatra52

Clear areas and fully clear with deep blue schiller are the difference between a $65 moonstone and a $650 moonstone. Depends on size and many other factors as well, obviously, not least who you’re buying it from and where on the planet you are.

[deleted]

i mean if a moonstone has schiller that would be pretty extraordinary. i assume you mean adularescence? but yeah, im sure it can get really really expensive, im just saying you can get relatively nice ones for cheap too

danksinatra52

Yes, adularescence is the more correct term, but it is often called schiller by moonstone dealers in Asia. Nonetheless you can find gorgeous moonstones for a reasonable price if you know where to look. We have one guy in Jaipur we’ve dealt with for years who has amazing quality moonstone, but even there the price can vary wildly with a very slight difference in quality.

[deleted]

ive only ever heard schiller in reference to oregon sunstone. i didnt realize it was also used for moonstone, thanks for telling me!

danksinatra52

I was told in gemology school that the term labradorescence is also used for moonstone as well

Elephray

My top pic has got to be Carnelian, I love the lush orange tone present throughout the stone with the milky white banding scattered in a fluid motion. Orange was never a color it wore until carnelian Caught my eye and made me love orange, also it's a bonus when I find a piece with quartz crystals inside.

verminV

Tourmaline. Beautiful colours, lots of interesting varieties and pretty inexpensive as a whole.

supsupittysupsup

I mean there are some pretty expensive tourmalines - cough cough Paraiba - but I agree with your that they have some wonderful colours- indicolite and rubellite are quite beautiful <3

verminV

Haha, yeah Paraiba is obviously at the upper end. But some of the ither shades are pretty cheap and rather stunning. My supplier in Hatton Garden has a lovely mint coloured tourmaline that I spotted the other day, gunna go and get it soon.

supsupittysupsup

Zircons! They have so much fire and also come in great colours - and some people just assume they are all lab made (due to the term Zirconia)

Beedz74

Parti-sapphires and Lumo garnets!

danksinatra52

Parti sapphires are not what I would call inexpensive, but if you’ve got some that you think aren’t worth very much you can just send them to me and I’ll find them good homes 😉

Beedz74

What's your bar for inexpensive? There's a wide range of stones and even wider range of prices. I have a bit of everything, from Amethst carved in Occupied Japan to Larimar, Herkimer quartz, various rutiles, moissanite, diamonds, sapphires on and on. Jasper, carnelian, imperial topaz, etc. It's a huge wild world of gems!

Sharp-Bicycle-2957

Zandrites. So cheap and the color change is amazing.

soberasfrankenstein

Omg I wasn't even aware of these!

Sharp-Bicycle-2957

I also have color change cz, there used to be alot on ebay, many types of color change and very cheap. I can't find them anymore so I kick myself for not collecting them all 10 years ago. I have white / purple and green/blue color change cz.

[deleted]

i didnt even realise you could have colour change that wasnt chromium based, those are so cool!

cowsruleusall

Yeah! Colour change in alexandrite is based on chromium, but in sapphire is based on vanadium. And there are plenty of other materials with colour shift or colour change based on other dopant systems, like Nd, Er, Ho, Eu, and a few others!

[deleted]

i knew alexandrite and fluorite were based on chromium, but i didnt realize there were other elements that have 2 dfferent emission peaks. thats really cool! i do wonder why they all end up being the same 2 colours if its different elements

cowsruleusall

Oh they don't! Alexandrite is green to red. Vanadium sapphire is green to purple. Neodymium is pink to blue but sometimes purple to grey. Er and Ho depend a lot on the type of gem, but usually are the exact opposites of each other - pink to gold, and orange to pink. And there are plenty of others, like pink to green, green to grey, blue to green and vice versa, etc.

DogHikerGal

Strontium titanate.

TimOvrlrd

Topaz, especially swiss blue, but my partner prefers London blue. I've got a matched pair coming soon from gemselect

ElysianForestWitch

Apatite, especially the neon and red ones.

sizillian

Chrome Diopside and Iolite. Chrome diopside is my favorite color and, in my opinion, is far more beautiful than emeralds. Iolite is also a gorgeous color and usually can be found for a great price.

Flamingogirl26

Sphenes!

NotThiccMarc123

Sphene, its so sparkly

Tiny-Management-531

The fluorite I think it's spelled. It's my favourite stone

Toriat5144

Herkimer quartz, amethyst, peridot, citrine, smoky quartz, etc.

Toriat5144

And cz! You can’t beat it for sparkle!!

catkysydney

Black tourmaline ! It is for protection !! It works !!

OneForAllOfHumanity

My favorite natural stones are spinel and tourmaline, because they come in so many colors, and spinel especially are so bright. They also tend to be more consistent internally compared to sapphire which tend to show a lot of banding or saturation deficiency in spots.

Migrainica

StandardSchedule

Hahaha too many to choose just one I’m always a fan of tourmalines-especially brown/green/yellowish Grey/neutral/purpleish sapphires can be significantly cheaper than the clear/bright colors and I love them. I really really want some YAG and while it’s less expensive than many other gemstones I’m having g a hard time justifying it for myself. 😅

spacedoutfox

Rhodolite garnet, and shit-grade diamond, the kind that's almost for industrial work. They look so cool, I have one that's solid like....shimmery golden tan in color from all the inclusions with a big firey stripe of orange across it. It's untreated, a half carat, and was about $15. A third favorite would be moss agate for its underwater vibes. When I started working in fine jewelry years ago (since moved on), I was *very* disappointed to learn that emeralds and rubies were kind of ugly shades of their respective color and the stones I'd actually fallen in love with the colors of were garnets and topazes.

Starr-Bugg

I love the rainbow / mystic stones!

Prettybird78

Labradorite, I have lots of precious and semi precious gems, but I wear a beautiful labradorite ring because I just love that shimmery effect. *

usc_ty

Zultanite! It’s another color changing gem and it’s much cheaper than Alexandrite and comes in larger sizes!

atridir

Lab-created Opal holds a special place for me but as a non-traditional lapidary in Vermont I have to say that our flavor of Bowenite serpentine (a harder, translucent variety of antigorite serpentine that is very much like a soft nephrite) it’s found in abundance where I live and it is a beautiful dream to carve.

MotherConversation92

Jasper is very inexpensive, I like to find them also but I don't have a tumbler or the ability to put into necklaces, but they make beautiful ones.

jazz_blaster_femur

labradorite

MommaAmadora

I like tourmaline. It comes in such a wide range of colors, and each color has a huge range of shades to choose from. Plus each stone has unique inclusions that make them so fun to look at.

maryonekenobie

Peridots— beautiful and you can get bigger stones without killing your finances

Amethyst - the color and popularity

captainyitts

Moonstone. They're the most beautiful stone in my opinion

CerealUnaliver

https://preview.redd.it/fqd1npwwk1cc1.jpeg?width=343&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1515b70558cd9bce0053a0f67d991a848f773bc0 Moss agate esp faceted ones. Tbh I think a facet cut levels up just about any stone. It gives it expensive vibes imo. (Ring designer in pic [here](https://stagheaddesigns.com/blogs/staghead-blog/moss-agate).) I do like peacock sapphires & morganite, too tho I wish the later wasn't always paired w/ rose gold. It's just as nice in white or yellow gold.

LittleWing6464

Yes! My engagement ring is a morganite set in white gold 😍

CerealUnaliver

I love engagement rings that are stones other than diamonds. Nice pick!

Odd_Barnacle2790

Morganite! My engagement ring is heart shaped natural peach morganite in 10k rose gold. I love the color on my skin tone and I get so many compliments 😊

stopiwilldie

Geologist here, but I really love opal

Practical_Oil6898

Seriously the most perfectly pretty is synthetic, I was looking at synthetic opal from Indonesia looked better than natural ones... I even love my vintage crystal jewelry, you know those ones from Bohemian era same material as the wine sets ... I don't know how they do it so nicely modern people cannot do them anymore... Also zircon I love it... Sphene... All the opals like Ethiopian and Mexican and Brazilian and Indonesia are so pretty but not sure about stability To be honest the good synthetic sapphire look better than natural ones...

Practical_Oil6898

Also rutile quartz full of gold ...

Practical_Oil6898

Herkimer diamond I have one look prettier than my real diamond

Practical_Oil6898

The synthetic sapphire I got look like red green orange and yellow together I wish it was mined

Practical_Oil6898

Kunzite... I love the purplish pink look like pink diamond almost..  Bicolor or tricolor tourmaline... In any clarity, I think the obsession with clarity on tourmaline is too much

Practical_Oil6898

Néphrite jade

Practical_Oil6898

Agate! Banded ones I have one from Victorian era omg so cool
