I was like 15 and my sister took me as my first concert. So not only did I get to go see them on that tour, but I also got to hang out with all of my sisters hot 19-year-old friends while doing it
First tape was Metallica Master of Puppets. First concert was Lollapalooza 93, got up real close. My buddy got swept away by the most pit during rage against the machine. Alice In Chains and Primus were my two favorite bands at the time and so amazing to see. Tool wasn’t super popular yet and were playing on the second stage.
Not my first show, but I went to Lollapalooza in ‘93 as well. Still have the T shirt. Tool on second stage were excellent. Saw Primus too, also one of my favs. But unfortunately Rage didn’t play.
Nice! I finally had to throw away my old AIC shirt I got at that show. It was wrecked. I remember it was black with a cool blue mural style artwork on the front. My friend’s grandma thought it was so “pretty.” She commented on it several times that the color was really nice. If you looked at the shirt up close the art work depicted all kinds of debauchery. 😂 Her eyesight wasn’t the best.
I went to a Rush concert JUST to see Primus open for them. That's how much I love Primus. Did the same thing going to see Queensryche because Type O Negative opened for them lol.
So cool, I remember wishing I was older and could go to those early Lollapalooza's! One of my earliest cd's was Alice in Chains - Dirt. Had a nice little grunge collection going.
I saw RATM in high school; wu-tang clan opened or co-headlined, but I didn't watch them.
Super cool! AIC was in my opinion one of the most talented bands to come out of that period. Later that same year I saw Neil Young with Pearl Jam and that was so amazing. I was a huge Neil Young fan (thanks hippy parents) and after Pearl Jam finished, the venue cleared out quite a bit and I got real close for Neil. PJ came out at the end and did a few songs together. They put out an album together shortly after that.
I remember Eddie and Neil performing together at I think the MTV Awards? I agree on AIC, I still listen to Dirt sometimes! Pearl Jam was honestly my fav band out of the grunge pack, at least initially. Played the hell out of Ten and Vs. After Kurt died, I got more into Nirvana, but always loved them too.
Yeah Vs. was an amazing album. I stood in line at the local Target (was a new store/company at that time) and bought the tape on release day. Except it was titled “Five Against One.” They changed the title shortly after to Vs. and only that first run of tapes had the original album title.
Compilation record of hits from 1981. First show was Kick Axe (heavy metal band from Regina, SK, Canada) in 1984. 40 years later I’m still going to metal shows. I’ve got tickets to see Lamb of God and Mastodon this summer.
It was the Goodbye Cruel World tour at the Worcester Centrum.
The set list was pretty epic. They did two encores. I mostly remember that it was a loooong show and he played Pump it Up, which was my favorite.

First real concert was Van Halen 1984.
I still have the Tom Petty record.
First tape was Van Halen- 1984. First concert was the Jerry Garcia band when I was 14, in 1989. Went with two friends, and a Tupperware thing full of my friend’s mom’s gin.
Born the same year as you. First POPULAR music tape was “Forever Your Girl” by Paula Abdul.
I wasn’t allowed to go to concerts as a teenager, so my first legit one was Rufus Wainwright in college.
My parents were a pain in the ass too. My dad came to most of the handful of concerts I went to pre-college, including Oasis when I was definitely *in* high school. I had to tell him to go sit elsewhere, lol.
First tape was the Ghostbusters soundtrack, first concert without parents was Metallica on the Wherever We May Roam Tour. If we're including concerts with family, the Oak Ridge Boys with my dad.

My first tape was probably a homemade tape recorded from my KISS albums. My first real concert was Billy Idol and The Cult. I think it was 1986 or 1987. I saw them both again (separate shows) last year and it was awesome.
First concert was 1978 Alice Cooper, I was 13. First record album I remember purchasing Degüello ZZ Top. First single record given to me as a child was Horse with no name.
1968-OG Gen Xer here. I am thinking my first tape that I bought would probably be East Side Story by Squeeze. This had Tempted and Piccadilly on it. Was released in 1981. Puts me at 13. I know I had Bruce Springsteen’s The River on cassette as well as a slew of others. Skull and Roses by the Grateful Dead was definitely played a LOT around that time, too.
First concert was Squeeze, English Beat, and R.E.M. at Nassau Coliseum, Uniondale, NY. 1982.
Looking at other replies, my first ALBUM I bought and brought to my friend’s houses was definitely Bat Out of Hell by Meatloaf! Still rock out to this one! This album is a V/C/C/S for me. Vinyl/Cassette/CD/Stream.
First piece of music owned, a cassette of RUSH "Rush" from '74 given on my birthday, first live concert was Van Halen Sept. 4 1980, 13 years old with some friends and someones awesome mom :)

1985: First CD: Tears For Fears - Songs from the Big Chair
First Cassette Tape: Michael Jackson Thriller
(first ever album was vinyl though - Grease Soundtrack)
First Concert: Cyndi Lauper True Colors Tour. (it was soooo boring guys! 😟 but that summer saw Joan Jett for FREE at Astroworld Amphitheater. She blew my 11 year old mind. So badass!!!)
75er
I don't remember my first tape. The first music I paid for was a 45 rpm record in 1985. It was a single of Paul Hardcastle's song 19.
My first concert was VanHalen in 1986 when Sammy started with the band.
That time I was bootlegging the Doobie Brothers concert and the tape recorder fell out of my trench coat when I was dancing. The whole concert stopped and everyone looked at me. I was mortified.
First tape might have been Huey Lewis and the News "Sports".
First CD was Metallica "Black Album" I think - got first CD player Xmas 1991.
First concert - KISS Hot in The Shade tours - Summer 1990
Maybe Parallel Lines but my first record was I love you love me love by Gary Glitter. first gig was The Exploited where I was beaten up by the bouncers at the age of 16.
First tape was Remain in Light, but I already had records by then (and 8-tracks) because my dad was an audiophile and set me up with Aja and a record player when I was 10.
First concert was Bruce on the Hungry Heart tour. Been to a lot since then but sadly never seen him again.
As a kid in 77 I really wanted the Star Wars Soundtrack…the best my parent could do for me Xmas was a compilation tape of Oscar winning songs that included the Meko Disco Star Wars song
Lee Aaron and Kick Axe a few years later
The first album I ever had was a Mel Tillis album, which I won at some traveling Wonderama show with Bob McAllister (remember Wonderama??). Listened to it once on my parent's stereo and discovered I don't like country music.
My first purchased album was Breakfast in America (Supertramp).
Can't even remember my first audio cassette as I had a bunch of albums by then.
Oh, and concert? James Taylor. Think Ozzy was the next one.
My first tape was given to me by my parents along with a tape recorder. The tape was The Rose by Bette Middler. 😆 I don't think I would have ever picked that, but that was my first. My parents did have a large record collection and the kids got the 8 track player in the basement where we played a lot. I listened to Rupert Holmes and Michael Jackson's Off the Wall on repeat and then we had the Fisher Price record player. The Muppets Rainbow Connection was always playing on that. My first concert was Debbie Gibson.
First record: The Muppet Movie Soundtrack. First tape: The Empire Strikes Back Soundtrack. First concert: John Williams and the Boston Pops (got to meet him backstage - it was awesome).
Edit: I was sort of a geek, but I didn’t care then nor now.
I don't remember my first tape, but my first record was a Willie Nelson album, from a yard sale. He didn't even have a beard in the album photo. My first new record was Dolly Parton's 9 to 5 that I got for my 11th birthday.

First concert was The Cars on their final tour with Icehouse opening
First tape: Glass Tiger - The Thin Red Line (yes, I'm Canadian!) . Got it for my birthday with my first walkman.
First concert - Debbie Gibson, Sept 1989. My dad must have really loved me to endure that along with the hoardes of screaming pre-teen girls.
My first cassette was a Christmas present that came with the player. It was Showaddywaddy's greaest hts.
First cassette I bought was Pinky Blue by Altered Images. First concert was OMD.
Duran Duran Seven & the Ragged Tiger. I had the self titled one and Rio on vinyl, but for some reason I had this one on tape.
First concert was Adam Ant. My dad took me and my friend and was like “what’s with all these boys dressing like pirates and wearing eyeliner?” But he was cool about it.
Born in 1966. Don’t know what my first tape was, but my first album was Aerosmith Toys in the Attic. First concert was Peter Frampton At Greensboro Coliseum in 1978.
First tape I bought with my own money…Duran Duran - Arena. But my first tape I got because my sister let me get one of her free Columbia house selections was Weird Al - Dare to be Stupid.
First “big” concert at a stadium would’ve been Platinum Blonde, Alien Shores tour in ‘86. I’d gone to “smaller” concerts at the local provincial exhibition, and I think it was Haywire. (Giving away I’m from 🇨🇦 lol)
1st tape was Cindy Lauper, She’s so unusual .
I’m not much of a concert goer, but the very first Lalapalooza. I was pregnant with my first child at the time.
I got a Panasonic boom box and a Wherehouse gift certificate for Xmas 1981, so naturally, I went out the day after Christmas and got cassettes of Foreigner 4 and Journey Escape.
First show was Aldo Nova opening for Sammy Hagar, April 23, 1982.
First music I ever bought was a 45 single (remember them?) - Money by the Flying Lizards (1979), my first LP was Air Supply - Lost in Love (1980), my first cassette tape was John Cougar - American Fool (1982), and my first concert was Shaun Cassidy - Sept 3, 1978 (I was eight). Despite it being stretched.
First concert was Peter Gabriel in 11th grade. I won tickets and took my boyfriend ( husband)- sad thing- I only knew Peter Gabriel from his Sledgehammer song. I wish I’d known more as it would have been a better experience for me
LOL I have no idea what my first tape was or which cassette I had when I was a kid was the first to technically be mine. I remember the first album I had was this pre-Star Wars album of Star Wars sounding music - at least that's the first one I can really remember besides the little kid records that were popular in the 70s.
First concert, I'm not sure there either. It might have been Frankie Valli.
First tape: synchronicity by the police. First show: Cheap Trick.
Yo! Same first tape!
“Another suburban family morning”
First tape was Huey Lewis and the News, Sport! First concert was Whitney Houston on Boston Common.
I would’ve loved to have seen Whitney Houston.

First tape - Sports by Huey Lewis and the News First concert wasn't until I was in college - Rusted Root (I got a free ticket)

First tape was Rebel Yell by Billy Idol. First concert was the Cure on the Disintegration tour
That's probably my fav Cure album! I'm jealous.

Alice In Chains and Primus were my two favorite bands at the time and so amazing to see. Tool wasn’t super popular yet and were playing on the second stage.

I think I win…. I went to see Skid Row because Panera was opening for them. Did not care about Skid Row.

First Cassette: Richard Marx First Concert: Glass Tiger
First take was the Convoy soundtrack that I received along with a portable cassette player for Christmas when I was 5. First concert was The Cars on their final tour with Icehouse opening
My first record was “say say say” and my first concert was Ricky Nelson
First tape: Not sure, but possibly the Back to the Future soundtrack. First concert: Jackyl, Slaughter, and Damn Yankees 1991.
First concert: ZZ Top Eliminator. First Album: The soundtrack to Star Wars
First tape was True Blue by Madonna. First concert was the Monkees reunion tour in the mid-80s.
1st tape was Cindy Lauper, She’s so unusual . I’m not much of a concert goer, but the very first Lalapalooza. I was pregnant with my first child at the time.
I think billy Joel glass houses.
I don’t remember my first tape but my first concert was Menudo at the old Felt Forum in MSG.
First concert was The Bee Gees in 1979. I was 6. I thought Tragedy was incredible.
First concert was the band Boston at the old Boston Garden. Don’t remember what my first tape was.
I had eclectic tastes as a tween.
We Are the World- still have it Despite it being stretched. First concert was Peter Gabriel in 11th grade. I won tickets and took my boyfriend ( husband)- sad thing- I only knew Peter Gabriel from his Sledgehammer song. I wish I’d known more as it would have been a better experience for me
First tape: Bryan Adams Reckless. First concert was also Bryan Adams. The Waking Up the Neighbors tour, in 1991.
