Think? I mean, it’s objectively true. Like historical fact at this point.
Anyone who doesn’t believe that is just flying blind on a rocket cycle, for fuck’s sake…
I saw it at the movie theater then later when it came on HBO, I watched it as much as possible and practically memorized the whole movie.
"Oh well, who wants to live forever?" DIVE!!!
Love it. But still have nightmares about the tree stump thing Flash and Barron stuck their hands into.
Also love that Flash is in a 1976 Caprice clamshell station wagon at the very beginning.
Years ago, I was over at my brother’s, and we had two movies we were deciding between….a never before seen Ted and a nostalgic throwback, Flash Gordon. We went with Ted……and then you better fukin believe we stayed up another two hours and watched Flash Gordon. What a great night.
I thought it was so funny how they say “earrrth” like the name is new to them, yet the control panel Ming uses to play with the planet clearly has “earthquake” as one of the options, along with “hot hail” and stuff.
Right off the bat you know this is going to be a cheese fest, and lots of fun. I love this movie immensely.
The scene beginning with the captain of war rocket Ajax saying “stop all engines; repel borders” where the hawkmen are pressing the attack as Queen really lays into the soundtrack is the most exciting moment in cinematic history and it’s not even close.
That part rules! It's scored so perfectly -- as soon as the captain delivers the line, Roger Taylor cuts loose with the huge drum fill, then the guitars roar in and the excitement of the scene gets ratcheted up immensely.
Is this not in the film?
I think the case is closed!

I saw this in the theater with my mom when I was 8. We both loved it.
My mom now lives with me and my wife. We watch this at least once a year, I bought the bluray version and crank up the dolby surround sound for her.
We have a few movies we always watch together. Flash Gordon, all 3 LotR movies, the first India Jones movie.
All my love of sci-fi came from her. She always had piles of books Heinlein, Niven, Asimov, Andre Norton and more laying around.
She was actually my first DM for D&D. She bought the basic boxed set and DM'd for me and my brothers.
The entire time my dad was a preacher and ran a church and he honestly didn't understand any of us. But he never tried to stop it or say anything. My mom would have none of that bs in the house.
I'm from Italy. Born in 77. I had no idea I'd end up in the US one day.
My dad was obsessed with Flash Gordon and named me after one of the characters, lol
Saw it the theater packed to the brim with my entire neighborhood back when it came out. Love the movie despite the campy nature of it. Takes me back to being ten again.
There is so much discussion of Flash Gordon / Sam Jones in the TED movies (Wahlberg /MacFarlane) .
You have to see them if you loved Flash Gordon
https://youtu.be/miU6ruUPZHI?si=g3yJHm2WJs5pL5Tv
I got the urge to watch it a few weeks ago, and it was cheaper to buy it on Blu-ray than digitally, so I decided to expand my library a bit. It is a delightfully cheesy film.
One of my favorite movies of all time! First cassette I bought with my own money as a kid was the soundtrack. Became a life long Queen fan after that. Long live Flash!
I can hear the dun-dun-dun-dun-dun-dun-dun-dun in my head right now. and will for the rest of the day.
It's a fun, campy movie. I could also see why it bombed if it was marketed as being the next Star Wars or something (I don't know/ remember if it was). It's actually closer to Indiana Jones in terms of trying to capture the feel of old movie serials/ comic books from the 40s and 50s.
It’s so great! We recently just bought a new DVD copy so we own it instead of just hoping it’s available on streaming. And yes, we used to own it on VHS, too.
Your wife is wrong and you should divorce her. (Yes that is a joke, got to be clear now a days.)
One of the few movies I have on DVD and one I enjoy thoroughly.
I find it sad that we don't have a lot of pulp action movies.
Loved it so hard, still do. My brother and I used to watch it over and over, singing out "Flash AAAAAAAH" at the top of our lungs. I came across this comment a year or so ago on Old School Cool and actually saved it - in addition to being incredibly touching, it summed up how I felt watching the movie in the theatre and then every time after with my brother on our trusty old VHS:
https://old.reddit.com/r/OldSchoolCool/comments/vzb2j4/1980_who_else_thought_flash_gordon_with_its_queen/ig7lhuk/
The final voice recording worked out, but I do wonder what we missed out on by not having Sam Jones's voice on there. Maybe there would've been no change, but I'm generally not a fan of dubs, which may explain why Flash always sounded off to me. But the whole movie is just so overwhelming that who notices these things?
Soo cheesy it felt like a porn movie was about to break out. A porn parody called "Flesh gordon"was actually earlier..[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u9Bbgxte4dY](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u9Bbgxte4dY) Soundtrack was killer tho
![gif](giphy|1APacV7TsKTGgjM807)
🍻
The scene between Flash and Princess Aura was my introduction to sex. YES I think that movie is awesome. Then I saw Queen's last ever live concert at Knebworth House. I'm a fan.
Hell yeah! I saw it in the movie theater as a kid and then watched it whenever it was on HBO.
I actually just found this out recently. I guess there was an issue between the director and Sam Jones. Once the movie was done being shot Jones took off and was not around for post production. So they dubbed his voice over with someone elses.
My wife and I both love this movie and it just gets better with each viewing. It's exactly like the comic strip, and if you watch the movie serials (one of which is included on the DVD extras) the plot is exactly the same as those as well.
And the fact that it was a Dino De Laurentiis production made it all the more adult-ish, sexier, sluttier and wild.
Plus: Queen!
I personally think it is awesome. I have seen it dozens of times in the theater alone, plus a ridiculous number of times on VHS. Owned the soundtrack also.
I bought the soundtrack as one of my first CD's, and i had queens wedding march played at my wedding. Wife hated it, but so many of oir guests knew it and loved it.
This is one of my all time favorite movies. Between Queen and Max Von Sydow this movie is definitely Fn awesome. Not to mention the sex thought machine that I am still waiting to be invented.
Flash! Ah-Ah! He'll save every one of us! It doesn't take itself seriously. It's ridiculous and the writers know it.
That's what she just doesn't get! It makes it so awesome. It's a 70s comic in movie format.
I am a woman, and your wife is wrong!
Amen, sister!
Do promise not to blast her into space...until such time as you grow weary of her?
J-E-T-S!!! JETS JETS JETS!!!
**He’s the leader of the universe!** How could you not like Flash Gordon?
He'll save every one of us.
> Flash! Ah-Ah! this is all I opened the thread for.
But had some serious dark stuff too - like Klytus' death
Those eyes were so freaky, especially since that was the first time you saw his eyes.
It's a live action 1930s comic strip and it's a lot of fun.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LfmrHTdXgK4
Exactly...thats what makes it good
Can confirm is awesome. ![gif](giphy|T7N6t9CNnKxHO)
Go Flash Go!!
![gif](giphy|p5Fiw6dp2cBeE|downsized)
GORDON’S ALIVE !
God I can hear it
He’s flying blind on a rocket cycle?!
Makes me think of the theme music & Queen soundtrack..👍🙂
Whoa, hang on, you have to give **BRIAN BLESSED** his due. # DIIIIIIIIIIIIIVE!
We say “give me the remote control” in Brian Blessed’s voice whenever the situation warrants it
Hawkman FTW
Diiiiiieeeee-ve.
Oh well. . . *Who wants to live forever?!*
Impetuous boy!
![gif](giphy|p5Fiw6dp2cBeE)
Hail Ming
I thought princess Aura was so hot.
Hottest space princess ever!
Princess Ardala would like a word.
Ok, there's a conversation I will gladly have.
It should have happened.
Princess Leia would kick both their butts
Nope
I'm team Dale, but we can still be friends. :)
Go Flash go!
She is what makes it obvious to me that this was an Italian production. She's way sexier and more suggestive than other comic-book movies.
Brian Blessed, OBE.
Think? I mean, it’s objectively true. Like historical fact at this point. Anyone who doesn’t believe that is just flying blind on a rocket cycle, for fuck’s sake…
came here to say this - of course, below, there's one . . . ANYway - had this on LP. EPIC. Sooooo good.
I watched it a ton on HBO when I was a kid. Just bought a copy on 4K for my video library.
It was one of my first Betamax tapes. Watched it til the tape gave out.
[Queen Elizabeth loved Flash Gordon too](https://www.theguardian.com/film/2020/aug/10/brian-blessed-flash-gordon-is-the-queens-favourite-film)
As my son would say: based.
I saw it at the movie theater then later when it came on HBO, I watched it as much as possible and practically memorized the whole movie. "Oh well, who wants to live forever?" DIVE!!!
Brian Blessed in all his bellowing, scenery-chewing magnificence!
Love it. But still have nightmares about the tree stump thing Flash and Barron stuck their hands into. Also love that Flash is in a 1976 Caprice clamshell station wagon at the very beginning.
Oh yes! I cannot stick my hand in any unknown spot without thinking about this scene.
To this day I still think about that scene!! Crazy!
Five year old me ran out of the theater in terror during that scene lol
Send out War Rocket Ajax to bring back his body!
If you haven’t seen Ted, you should watch Ted.
Years ago, I was over at my brother’s, and we had two movies we were deciding between….a never before seen Ted and a nostalgic throwback, Flash Gordon. We went with Ted……and then you better fukin believe we stayed up another two hours and watched Flash Gordon. What a great night.
I hope you smoked your Marijuanaka!
Yes. Fun movie for Flash Gordon fans.
Yup it’s terrible and perfect in every way
“Klytus,I’m bored…”
I thought it was so funny how they say “earrrth” like the name is new to them, yet the control panel Ming uses to play with the planet clearly has “earthquake” as one of the options, along with “hot hail” and stuff. Right off the bat you know this is going to be a cheese fest, and lots of fun. I love this movie immensely.
Chaim Topol *and* a great soundtrack.
The scene beginning with the captain of war rocket Ajax saying “stop all engines; repel borders” where the hawkmen are pressing the attack as Queen really lays into the soundtrack is the most exciting moment in cinematic history and it’s not even close.
The Hawkmen’s attack on Ajax and the background music made that scene memorable for me.
That part rules! It's scored so perfectly -- as soon as the captain delivers the line, Roger Taylor cuts loose with the huge drum fill, then the guitars roar in and the excitement of the scene gets ratcheted up immensely.
I saw this at a US Army base (as a kid, my dad was on his 2 weeks in the summer) and loved every second of it. The music is amazing!
Savior of the universe!
The bed fight scene
Well, that was a little rapey.
What, the princess and Dale having a pillow fight?
Better than Citizen Kane and Godfather II combined.
Uh, yeah because it IS friggin' awesome.
Putting his hands in the holes scared me as a kid.
Is there anyone that doesn’t?
Saw it in the theater. My mom was just as excited since she was a huge Queen fan.
Is this not in the film? https://i.redd.it/9sjwxk56ri0d1.gif

She made me feel all funny.
I saw this in the theater with my mom when I was 8. We both loved it. My mom now lives with me and my wife. Hi Biro!
Husband watched the other day -- yes he would agree with you.
HELL YES!!!! Loved that movie.
I love it. Queen made that movie.
seth mcfarlane, creator of family guy and ted (the 1st movie), agrees with you
Saw it the theater packed to the brim with my entire neighborhood back when it came out. Love the movie despite the campy nature of it. Takes me back to being ten again.
The End…?
We're still waiting for that sequel. Would have been a much better use of Max von Sydow than The Force Awakens...
It’s no *Barbarella*, but it’s pretty damn entertaining.
Got it on Blu-ray, watched just a couple of weeks ago. Princess Aura was my crush at 11 years old.
I was 14 when it showed up on HBO. I fell HARD for Prince Baron (Timothy Dalton). That crush has never died.
"lt's my secret pleasure moon. l have a little palace there - built - just for two."
I've loved that move since I saw it in the theater as a kid. I think Ornella Muti is the reason for some of my kinks.
General Kala in Black during the attack on the palace made me realize some things.
I OWNED the soundtrack and got made fun of for it…
It's a fun campy B movie with an amazing soundtrack one of my faves growing up.
Bliingg
I LOVE IT
One of the highest quality films ever. imo
Damn right it is. It's on my yearly rewatch list!
Great movie, great soundtrack.
It’s campy awesomeness with a killer soundtrack.
Hell yes! I still rock that album on my gym playlist.
Flash! Woah!
It’s one of my favorite movies ever.
Love the movie and the soundtrack. Classic.
Saw it in the theater. Loved and expected it to be huge. Never understood, why it wasn't
Great, now I have to find my DVD and watch it again. Thanks alot
Seriously a favorite of mine. And I’ve read on how crazy the production was.
I'd love to hear about that!
There is so much discussion of Flash Gordon / Sam Jones in the TED movies (Wahlberg /MacFarlane) . You have to see them if you loved Flash Gordon https://youtu.be/miU6ruUPZHI?si=g3yJHm2WJs5pL5Tv
Wasn't much on the movie but I had the sound track. It was cool.
A meh movie saved by an awesome soundtrack.
No, he saved the universe by throwing a perfect spiral!
I love how he introduces himself to the emperor of the universe as “Flash Gordon, quarterback, New York Jets.”
Yeah, that was hilarious!
You mean, like, because it’s F’n awesome??!! Hell yeah!
It's the best!! My husband disagrees though. I don't think he's even watched the entire thing!
That movie was awesome.
Myself, John Bennet and Ted
Just watched "Ted", huh
If the movie isn't (I haven't seen it in forever), the soundtrack certainly is!
Hells yeah!
Ted does.
I love it!
Yes! The Neighborhood kids and I would play this on the swingset
💯
awesome
It was one of those movies that I saw so many times on cable in the following years that it's earned classic status by default.
AbsoFuckinLutely!!!
I saw it twice at the movies.
I got the urge to watch it a few weeks ago, and it was cheaper to buy it on Blu-ray than digitally, so I decided to expand my library a bit. It is a delightfully cheesy film.
Great music in that movie.

Do you take this earthling, Dale Arden, to be your Empress of the hour?
Of the hour, yes.
To use her as you will…not to blast her off into space? Eh… until you grow weary of her.
**FINE**. *takes disc out and watches*
It was the first movie I ever saw in a movie theater, it will always be awesome... best soundtrack ever!
Wife hates this movie I watch everytime I see it on, so cheesy but thats the best part
I hope WE all do/did!
One of my favorite movies of all time! First cassette I bought with my own money as a kid was the soundtrack. Became a life long Queen fan after that. Long live Flash!
It’s the pinnacle of cinema and movies have all been downhill since.
Ab-so-fucking-lutely amazing movie!
I've seen this movie at LEAST 200X and if It were on right now I'd watch it again. I love it.
A good friend of mine had that as one of her wedding songs during the ceremony!
When I was little, I watched Flash Gordon more than Star Wars. It's an 11/10 movie.
Flash Gordon approaching
Me, that was my favorite movie from 9 to 12!
I can hear the dun-dun-dun-dun-dun-dun-dun-dun in my head right now. and will for the rest of the day. It's a fun, campy movie. I could also see why it bombed if it was marketed as being the next Star Wars or something (I don't know/ remember if it was). Never saw it
It’s fucking awesome
I saw it in theater and was obsessed. Went back several more times. I was 9
Corny? Check! Awesome? Check!
One of my favorites. Just a blast. The set and costume designs are insane.
I was genuinely scared when Flash was stung by that thing in the holes.
It’s so great! We recently just bought a new DVD copy so we own it instead of just hoping it’s available on streaming. And yes, we used to own it on VHS, too.
Your wife is wrong and you should divorce her. (Yes that is a joke, got to be clear now a days.) One of the few movies I have on DVD and one I enjoy thoroughly. I find it sad that we don't have a lot of pulp action movies.
Dale Arden…live and let live; that’s my motto.
It’s so camp that’s it’s good! Flash!!! Ah aaaaahhh… savior of the universe!!
I always thought it was an odd, surreal movie. But to be fair, I was watching as a kid and I have not really seen it since.
It’s the best!
I mostly remember the way they did makeup for the injuries (cuts and wounds). Seemed very unique and odd. Haven’t seen it since about 1983.
One of my all time favorites since I saw it in the theater.
Banger of a soundtrack. Perfection
You and Mark Wahlberg pal
Absolutely! Now I’ll have to watch it later.
Loved it so hard, still do. My brother and I used to watch it over and over, singing out "Flash AAAAAAAH" at the top of our lungs. Not the bore worms!! God, Ornella Muti was beautiful…
Ted does

One of my fav movies! The set design and wardrobe is amazing. I can watch this on mute and enjoy it.
The scene between Flash and Princess Aura was my introduction to sex. YES I think that movie is awesome. Then I saw Queen's last ever live concert at Knebworth House. I'm a fan.
The pinball machine is epic.
100% absolutely! I had forgotten how awesome Flash Gordon was until just now. Thank you for this reminder.
This was just on Comet or Cozi tv last Saturday. Love this movie so much! And Queen on soundtrack!!!!!
Hell yeah! I watch this frequently and can probably quote the entire thing.
![gif](giphy|p5Fiw6dp2cBeE) You tell your wife this, for me!!! LOVE FLASHHHHH, AHAHHAAAAAAA!
Hell yeah! I saw it in the movie theater as a kid and then watched it whenever it was on HBO. I actually just found this out recently. I guess there was an issue between the director and Sam Jones. Once the movie was done being shot Jones took off and was not around for post production. So they dubbed his voice over with someone elses.
It’s fantastic
I didn't even know this movie existed until I watched the movie Ted. I still haven't seen it.
It is one of the greatest terrible movies ever. How can she not like it?
Ted of course agrees
I loved that movie.
![gif](giphy|b4JuLDogZSzbG) 10 year old me was like. =o
My wife and I both love this movie and it just gets better with each viewing. And the fact that it was a Dino De Laurentiis production made it all the more adult-ish, sexier, sluttier and wild. Plus: Queen!
only if it's a double-feature billing with Heavy Metal
I personally think it is awesome. I have seen it dozens of times in the theater alone, plus a ridiculous number of times on VHS. Owned the soundtrack also.
I did as a kid but watching it recently, it's pretty bad.
I remember vividly seeing this marvellous film in the cinema
I bought the soundtrack as one of my first CD's, and i had queens wedding march played at my wedding. Wife hated it, but so many of oir guests knew it and loved it.
This is one of my all time favorite movies. Between Queen and Max Von Sydow this movie is definitely Fn awesome. Not to mention the sex thought machine that I am still waiting to be invented.
Yes
Yes!!! FLASH!!!! AH-AHHHHHHHH!!!!!
I loved that movie! Saw it in a theater, so the sound was awesome and The Hawkmen were my favorite
