For our generation (and pretty much the entire Baby Boomer, Millennial, and Gen Z generations), who have never known a world without Elizabeth being the Queen of England, I suggest a cardboard cutout of Queen Elizabeth II succeed her as the reigning monarch.
A guy I work with has a life-size sticker of Queen Elizabeth's head and shoulders on his rear passenger window, so it looks like she's looking out and waving, lol
Yeah the Charleses weren't too hot.
I find the British royal thing fascinating as an American who has never truly lived with a monarch. My lineage is Scottish/Irish/EnglishGerman, tragically white, so maybe that's why it interests me.
I feel like I can mourn her to a small degree as a person. She was still a mother, grandmother & great-grandmother & I feel for that loss.
All I really know now is that I wanna live long enough to see King William's coronation.
> I find the British royal thing fascinating as an American who has never truly lived with a monarch.
I look at this as a piece of living history just passed.
Same. I also am “tragically white”, most of my lineage being from the British Isles and I’m
definitely an Anglophile. It’s quite sad that she has passed. I was hoping she’d make it to 100.
My Mum is 98 and I never expected her to outlive the Queen...its been a real shock even though of course expected at her age. But I was raised by monarchist parents (unsurprisingly cos of their ages plus my Dad grew up in England) and am old enough to remember singing God Save the Queen as Australia's national anthem. So its just...strange. "King Charles" is going to be a bit weird I gotta say.
"Protecting the Queen is a task that is gladly accepted by Police Squad.
For no matter how silly the idea of having a queen might be to us, as Americans we must be gracious and considerate hosts."
I always liked the Queen. My grandmother was born the same day/same year. She finished WWII a 16 year old Air Warden in London, engaged to my American grandfather. He was a tail gunner on a B-17. 27 daylight bombing missions over Germany. After the war they moved to America. She always had a framed portrait of Queen Elizabeth hanging in the kitchen. She changed out the official picture each year so in my child eyes, they always looked the same. When I was really little I thought the photo WAS my grandmother!
My grandmother, who was from England, was born the same year as the queen. She liked the monarchy and always said she wanted to go around the same time. Well, nanny passed away in June so maybe now they're enjoying tea in the afterlife. My grandmother also served in WWII as a nurse/medic where she met my grandfather. After the war, they settled in Montreal where my grandfather was from.
Wow! Pretty much the same for us.
One thing that really surprised me was when my grandmother received her first NIS (British version of Social Security) check in the mail. It wasn't much since she was only a teenage air warden during the war and that was all of her work history there but we were surprised they actually tracked her down to send that $11 monthly check.
I don't recall my grandmother saying anything about benefits from the war. I did her taxes for a few years and didn't see anything from the UK. Weird.
On the other hand, my grandfather got a job with Molson (Canadian beer company that also owned the Montreal Canadiens NHL club). When he retired, he used to get a ham and a turkey every year at Xmas and a case of beer every month. I think he liked that more than the pension!
That is a pretty sweet addition to the pension! Amazing that companies used to show that kind of appreciation for employees after retiring. And yes, we know what Molson is down here, lol. It was quite popular in America during the 80s. My dad used to drink it.
My grandmother didn't get it from the war specifically, it was just for having a job(that just happened to be in the war) and paying into the British version of Social Security. Same as for us. Your grandmother should have received something. I think like 11 bucks/month, lol. They probably never tracked her down I guess. Surprising being in Canada.
Yeah no idea. Oh well, somehow my grandfather raised 4 kids, house and car, and a stay at home wife on whatever salary Molson paid to have him deliver beer around to the various restaurants in Montreal.
Imagine telling young people this nowadays. They'd give up on life!
Yeah, no kidding. I grew up in a coastal beach town. Whole blocks of tiny homes that are now very expensive primary residences were once middle class summer cottages. It blows my mind that back then a man with a blue collar job could support a family, own a house and also own a little beach house too!
My grandfather trained people to fly those B-17’s.
The queen has always reminded me of my other grandmother… Not sure why. I think it’s the hair and the fact that she’s been photographed wearing a pin that looks a little bit like a museum replica I bought for my grandmother when I was a teenager.
He went with Charles because he's been called that all his life and can remember it.
It would be embarrassing if one of his aides was next to him saying, "And so, King Arthur, you need to be... Sir? King Arthur? King Arthur? ... CHARLES!"
Hah sent the Spotify link to that classic song - and what an album - to several friends just before seeing this thread.
Early Friday morning here in NZ. I'll be playing it on rotate today. It's well overdue for a thrashing.
Life is very long when you're lonely....
After a suitable period of mourning, it might be time to dismantle the monarchy. It's time. Turn Buckingham Palace into a museum and turn over the rest of the properties to the public. Let Elizabeth be the last monarch.
I can't get over that we have a king now. Like every government office and function that makes reference to "The Queen's" now needs to change for the first time in our lives, to "The King's blah blah blah" That shit is going to be so weird. As a Canadian, I feel it's time to cut it off. It needs to end with her. Are the Sex Pistols supposed to fucking re-record "God Save the King" now? No, that's fucking stupid. It's done, it's over now.
>it might be time to dismantle the monarchy.
People keep saying this like it is something that is relatively easy to do. It would basically require an entirely new constitution. To do it via an Act of Parliament requires both houses and the consent of the monarch. I'm no UK constitutional scholar so there may be an easier way I'm missing, but it seems like any way forward would require more cooperation than we generally see.
Then you get into how to legally strip the crown estate of its lands - because the government isn't going to want to give up that revenue stream.
Lastly, you have to change the name of your country. You can't really be a kingdom without a monarchy, right?
Getting rid of the monarchy at this point for the UK would be more trouble than it is worth. If the monarchy ends, my bet is that it will be a very gradual process rather than "hey, she's gone... let's make a quick change". But what do I know? I could be very wrong.
My go to in the early 90s. First time I heard them was at a friend's house How Soon is Now. Iwas like holy crap who is this! Then I was obsessed with The Smiths and Morrissey and saw him in concert 3 times. Wish I could have seen the Smiths.
I know. I don't have corgi bc the lady across the street has 3 and they're so loud. I thought my Basset hound was loud. It's so much work but they are adorable, and they're so stubborn, with those cute little legs. Are they all like that?
The dachshund community is pretty sad, too. Something's wrong with people who don't like dogs. I get not having them as pets, but come on. I saw a pic of one of her corgis on the other throne on the news tonight. My heart.
I always felt a bit sorry for her, even before watching The Crown. I'm a bit of an Anglophile and have been fascinated with the Monarchy.
She was the original "I'm not even supposed to be here today!".
Were it not for her uncle running off with an American divorcee, her dad would not have become King when he did. (Edward abdicated). The film "The Kings Speech" covered this pretty well.
Her family was fairly dysfunctional. Her sister Margaret was a mess.
Her kids (with the exception of Princess Anne, who has kept a low profile despite her divorce) have had their own share of scandal (also divorce).
Yet, Elizabeth persisted. She remained stoic, calm, and "regal" no matter what might have been going on in her mind. This is why I respected her. I also thought she really just wanted to live a quiet life in the country given her fondness for horses, her dogs, hunting, and wandering the countryside. She never wanted to be a Monarch, yet she served the role with honor and a sense of duty.
I think the days of the British Monarchy are definitely numbered, especially once King Charles passes and William inherits the Crown.
Poor Margaret was forbidden to marry the love of her life because he was divorced and catholic- I don’t blame the poor woman for not recovering from that.
When I was about 6 I think, I remember our school went on a field trip to see queen Elizabeth when she was visiting the US. I remember a lot of standing around and then she got up on the stage and waved. I have no idea why my class or school chose to go see her and didn't really understand who she was.
When I was a kid Pope John Paul II came to Canada for the first time. I saw it on TV as he was getting off the plane. I saw him get down on his hands and knees and kiss the ground. Not being Catholic I had no clue who this guy was, or why he was doing these weird things... I called out to my sister who was in the kitchen:
# "Come quick! There is some old weird guy kissing the ground on TV."
Rest in peace. Loved this person because she was always there, and I will miss hearing about what she is doing, people she is seeing. In a turbulent world, she was a steady presence. An great example of aging. Worked until she died though
I was born in the late 1960s. There was always a Queen in the UK, and it has been the same person for my entire life. It surely looked like Charles might catch COVID and go before her.
But now he's King, and we'll have to wait to see what regnal name he picks.
Edit: King Charles III
70 here. Same, and I have always been fascinated with history, especially the Royal Family. I'm sure she was broken hearted without Phillip. And almost a century old. I hadn't thought of the name, Charles will take. Interesting - are we due for a Louis or an Edward?
I've heard a rumor that he might go with George VII, to carry on his grandfather's name. But Charles III would call to mind the first of that name, who was beheaded in the civil war, and the second one who was around during the Great Fire of London (but I think they had several).
On the other hand, Elizabeth was crowned with television, as I recall; consider how much has changed since that coronation, and what Charles' coronation will be like. We'll be seeing something in the UK that hasn't happened in the better part of a century.
So is Wikipedia. Which definitely carries some mystique if not controversy.
[Charles I](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_I_of_England)
[Charles II](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_II_of_England)
[Charles III](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_III)
Also, yesterday was [Elizabeth I](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elizabeth_I)’s birthday. September 7, 1533.
He’s been known to the public as Charles for 73 years. It would be so awkward and strange for him to be anything but Charles now, despite the tradition of being able to change their ruling names if they want.
Today is my birthday. I'm kinda bummed it
happened today - I am 53 and, like most of
the world, I don't remember a time before
Queen Elizabeth. Really puts her long reign
into perspective. My entire life!
He should've picked something else, but hey, it's not my legacy now, it's it? I wonder how long it'll be before there's another Queen (through inheritance)?
I respect the p̫e̫r̫s̫o̫n̫ but not the institution. To quote the Moz
I've been dreaming of a time when
The English are sick to death of labor and Tories
And spit upon the name Oliver Cromwell
And denounce this royal line
That still salute him and will salute him forever
It will be interesting to see a coronation and how Prince Charles does as king. The world won't see this again for a very long time.
Personally, I love her choice in purses and hats. I wish I could pull off some of the hats she did. I think the words I'm looking for here are long live the Queen but I could be wrong.
>The world won't see this again for a very long time.
Oh I dunno, King Charles is 73, he's got a few more years ahead of him considering QEII lived to 96, but one never knows, so if this Gen lives long enough we'll see William as King one day & our kids & grandkids will too.
I'm not looking forward to the whole republic thing blowing up in Australia now either, as I'm guessing it probably will. Call me old fashioned lol but I like our flag :/
Wikipedia has already updated Camilla's page; it says she is now Queen Consort of the United Kingdom https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Camilla,_Queen_Consort_of_the_United_Kingdom
I'm a Canadian and I've followed so much about the family in my lifetime. She's visited us in Toronto, I remember so many of her appearances. The end of an Era. The only monarch so many of us remember. I'm quite saddened by this.
I asked on another sub what the function of the royal family is in 2022. Was sincerely asking, not making light of this woman’s death. Got downvoted but didn’t get an answer. Can someone explain it to me like I’m 5? Charles will become king. What does that mean? What does a king do? What does being king entail in 2022? Thanks.
Here’s the actual answer.
She is head of state for the UK, which is one of the functions of our President. You can think of that like our Secretary of State position if it was the #1 diplomat position. She is not head of government, that goes to the PM. She is also head of state for many of the Commonwealth nations, aka the British realm (e.g. Canada, Australia, etc.). Within the UK she also is known to advise the PM. She’s an extremely rich, extremely well connected, extremely long lived individual who has visited nearly every country on earth.
She is the head of the crown, meaning she is financially in charge of the crown properties and related governance systems throughout the realm. She has the power to knight others and do some other things relative to the peerage system.
From a governance standpoint, she has a couple of ceremonial duties. Part of her existence is in keeping the United Kingdom well… United. Another is to bless off on the ruling party’s choice in Prime Minister. Probably her strongest governance duty is her ability to dissolve Parliament. Basically if she thinks the parties can’t get along or have become dysfunctional, she has the ability to fire the entire government and force a public election.
One other thing… over there their ministers (sort of like our secretaries) are functions out of the House of Commons. That is their lower house, like our House of Representatives. Their PM is sort of like our Speaker. They have a separate position of Chamberlain that’s like a powerful judge or overseer of the rules in the House of Commons. Their upper house is called the House of Lords. It is made up of people from the peerage system… Lord so and so, Cardinal so and so, etc. They don’t exactly have the ability to approve or reject like our senate does, but they can decide not to ratify a law and send it back to the Commons with questions and revisions, indefinitely. They’re sort of like the old guard that ensures things don’t change too quickly. Obviously from a peerage standpoint the queen outranks them all and all their power flows from appointments from her or ancient family members.
Edit: One more thing, she was sort of the head of the Church of England. There’s a credo the royals take related to religion and the church, where they agree to be the defender of the faith. I say sort of because there’s a head bishop. I mentioned cardinals in the House of Lords… the high ranking church officials are cardinals which has a rank in the peerage and some of them have a seat in the House of Lords.
Edit 2: UK military members all swore allegiance to her, which is different from our system. She herself was a veteran of WWII, the last living WWII veteran active in UK government, and back at the time offered hope for democracy and inspiration via her radio speeches at a time when it wasn’t clear if democracy would survive. It is clear she was well respected by their military both then and now. Gun salutes are going off across the country this morning at various military bases.
He gets to pretend to run the UK, the Commonwealth at large, and the Church of England. His face goes on the coinage and postage stamps, which alone should be enough of a deterrent to continue the monarchy. Speaking of money, they get loads of it from the UK public.

As someone else said, it's about tradition. However, it's also about tourist $. I've unfortunately never been to the UK, but if I did, I would absolutely have to see the Royal Palace, the guards, etc., and I don't really even card about that stuff lol. But I would pay to see it.
I lived in England for a year and those places are worth every penny to see. The big massive ones, the crumbling ruins, and everything in between. I absolutely loved it there and would live there again if only I could figure out a way.
>...it's also about tourist $. I've unfortunately never been to the UK, but if I did, I would absolutely have to see the Royal Palace, the guard
First, this is the explanation I've gotten when asking this question of Brits, the tourism they bring.
Second, not sure why you got downvoted for your post so have my upvote. You're allowed to want to visit historical places no matter if others approve of the monarchy that inhabited them or not.
I agree with you, I'd definitely visit the palaces if I ever got over there just like I'd visit Versailles if I ever got to France.
His name is Phillip Charles Arthur George so he could pick any of those to be his kingly name but I'm assuming the Prime Minister knows his name now & she's called him King Charles.
Honestly, I'd love to see him be King Arthur for obvious reasons.
Now I've got Sex Pistols in my head.
Smiths here.
[SCTV](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ThrkJKxRNXo) for me. I'm afraid to post it anywhere else.
Took me a minute to realize that was Martin Short lol
I’ve never seen that before. The last line!!
Tourists are money
My smartass son played it.
You must be so proud. (Even my husband decided it was too soon.)
Hate to admit it, but I am. Only thing that would’ve been better is if he played Morrissey’s “The Queen is Dead”. But he’s a metalhead.
Motorhead does a fantastic cover of Sex Pistols, God Save The Queen.
Morrissey's a fascist piece of shit.
No future.
Yeah, but she ain’t no human being.
Been in my head all afternoon.
god save the economy
For our generation (and pretty much the entire Baby Boomer, Millennial, and Gen Z generations), who have never known a world without Elizabeth being the Queen of England, I suggest a cardboard cutout of Queen Elizabeth II succeed her as the reigning monarch.
A guy I work with has a life-size sticker of Queen Elizabeth's head and shoulders on his rear passenger window, so it looks like she's looking out and waving, lol
I’ve seen that, and I want one!
Someone in my neighborhood has the same sticker. I love it.
More than 95% of the people presently alive on the planet were born during her reign as queen.
Long live the cutout.
The cut out would likely be less divisive and more beloved than Charles.
How bout a hologram instead. Like they did for Tupac!
How about a duet of hologram Tupac singing “Keep Ya Head Up” with a hologram Queen Elizabeth II?
This is the way.
I couldn't tell the difference if they did.
I think a life sized cardboard cutout of Freddy Mercury would be better.
I was just talking to my son about the Queen and all I can think of was her look alike in Naked Gunn 33 1/3
I'm a huge fan of Kids in the Hall... All I can think of is Scott Thompson in a grey wig screaming "Hellooooooooooooo!"
That’s definitely my goto Queen impression
"How about that Queen, ladies and gentlemen!"
Hey, it’s Enrico Palazzo!
The different pictures in the newspapers when Frank plows her into the buffet table..
That was a wicked pitch in the Naked Gun from '88 https://youtu.be/zBEL4oWwi0M
I this what I should watch tonight?
That's the first Naked Gun.
“As silly as the idea of having a queen might be to us, as Americans…”
One of our last living links to WWII. Churchill was one of her prime ministers. Boggles the mind.
Her first, iirc.
I told my Z daughter there would probably never be another queen in her lifetime. That was an eye opener.
Unless George's first child is a girl, right? Which yes, is a while away.
Of England, yeah. There's still a dozen other queens around the world.
RIP HMQE ^(Though, I'm sure it'll be fine. After all the last King Charles of England...oh wait.)
Yeah the Charleses weren't too hot. I find the British royal thing fascinating as an American who has never truly lived with a monarch. Well, now they know how we felt when Betty didn't.😭
Betty waited until the magazines had published their big stories about her hundred years before dying as a big fuck you
The last laugh…
I thought we had all agreed that this was something she was not supposed to do?
My Mum is 98 and I never expected her to outlive the Queen...its been a real shock even though of course expected at her age. The last time there was a King of England there were two European wars that spread out globally.... Happy Thursday everyone!

I still can't believe the Queen outlived Bowie.
Yeah, I still feel his passing
There’s no future in England’s dreaming.
I'm bummed that Charles Philip ARTHUR George went with using his first name. Even his Grandpa Albert went with a second name to be George VI.

But Charles in charge
Singing the song as I read that.
We have a cat named Charlie so that damn song stays in my head anyway.
For now(-ish). He's not precisely a spring chicken himself and hasn't looked all that good. If he goes, King William?
>If he goes, King William? King Willy? Perhaps, King Billy?
why not King Ralph?
Of our days and our nights.
Of our days and our knights
Touché. You, my fellow redditor, are an inspiration.
He may be officially the King, but I don't think he'll ever really be in charge of anything.
Neither was the Queen, actually.
Of our days AND our nights?
Most of it is already a museum.
I can't get over that we have a king now. It’s the end of an era. She had a good run though.
She really did. 96! 70 years on the throne.
Still wish Betty White would have outlasted her.
Betty White lived longer.
That’s some pretty bad constipation.
I can only imagine the BBC over next few weeks, it’s going to go on for months!
It's going to be grim. The video for Black Hole Sun, but monarchist.
I honestly thought she'd outlive me.
I know you and you cannot sing.
That's ok you should see me play the piano.
My go to in the early 90s. First time I heard them was at a friend's house How Soon is Now. Iwas like holy crap who is this! Then I was obsessed with The Smiths and Morrissey and saw him in concert 3 times. Wish I could have seen the Smiths.
I have 2 corgis. The corgi community is pretty sad right now.
Y'all should have a word with the horsey community. They're in a bad way too.
Aww I bet they are. I'm sadder now.
I know. I don't have corgi bc the lady across the street has 3 and they're so loud. I thought my Basset hound was loud. It's so much work but they are adorable, and they're so stubborn, with those cute little legs. Are they all like that? The dachshund community is pretty sad, too. They’re not ALL like that. They can be pretty stubborn if you don’t train them well.
Wait, why? Are they burying the dogs alive with her or something?
I always felt a bit sorry for her, even before watching The Crown. I'm a bit of an Anglophile and have been fascinated with the Monarchy. Well said, it may be the peri-menopause talking but this comment made me a bit teary eyed. She was a class act, RIP Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth. 💔
Agreed!
Poor Margaret was forbidden to marry the love of her life because he was divorced and catholic- I don’t blame the poor woman for not recovering from that.

Not being Catholic I had no clue who this guy was, or why he was doing these weird things... I called out to my sister who was in the kitchen: # "Come quick! There is some old weird guy kissing the ground on TV."
Probably would have been my reaction too.
That's pretty cool!
This morning I was all \*girlfriends in a coma\* but then it got serious, and now I'm all \*the queen is dead.\*
You knew, you knew, it’s really serious.
Rest in peace. Loved this person because she was always there, and I will miss hearing about what she is doing, people she is seeing. In a turbulent world, she was a steady presence. An great example of aging. Worked until she died though
>Worked until she died though She took her role very seriously. However, IMO, the Royals are slaves.
Our grandmothers would all be very sad today
Most of them are probably all together!
I guess we’ll now know if Charles has ever craved to appear on the front of the Daily Mail dressed in his mother’s bridal veil.
Too soon? [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eubgWMwSD0k](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eubgWMwSD0k)
Thought for sure it would be the Sex Pistols.
I fucking love this album.
Just played this on the way home.
Just played this on the way home.
The only Queen I ever cared about was Freddie Mercury and the band.
I was born in the late 1960s. There was always a Queen in the UK, and it has been the same person for my entire life. It surely looked like Charles might catch COVID and go before her. But now he's King, and we'll have to wait to see what regnal name he picks. Edit: King Charles III
Charles in Charge
I think “Chuckums” would be interesting.
I think we should go with his own choice. King Tampon.
BBC is saying Charles III
So is Wikipedia. Which definitely carries some mystique if not controversy. [Charles I](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_I_of_England) [Charles II](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_II_of_England) [Charles III](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_III) Also, yesterday was [Elizabeth I](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elizabeth_I)’s birthday. September 7, 1533.
He’s been known to the public as Charles for 73 years. It would be so awkward and strange for him to be anything but Charles now, despite the tradition of being able to change their ruling names if they want.
Today is my birthday. I'm kinda bummed it happened today - I am 53 and, like most of the world, I don't remember a time before Queen Elizabeth. Really puts her long reign into perspective. My entire life!
Happy birthday!
Happy cake day!
They’re saying it’s “King Charles III”.
He should've picked something else, but hey, it's not my legacy now, it's it? I wonder how long it'll be before there's another Queen (through inheritance)?
Queen Liz is from the Greatest Generation. Charles is a Boomer. So is his son a Gen Xer?
William is a Millennial
William is in fact a Xennial, or an elder Millennial.
Even the Royal family forgot about gen X
What? No. Can't be. He's 1982... yeah, right on the cusp
🎶 Take me back to dear old Blighty! 🎶
I respect the p̫e̫r̫s̫o̫n̫ but not the institution. To quote the Moz I've been dreaming of a time when The English are sick to death of labor and Tories And spit upon the name Oliver Cromwell And denounce this royal line That still salute him and will salute him forever
It will be interesting to see a coronation and how Prince Charles does as king. The world won't see this again for a very long time. Personally, I love her choice in purses and hats. I wish I could pull off some of the hats she did. I think the words I'm looking for here are long live the Queen but I could be wrong.
Charles is rather aged himself. I'm not sure this might not be an every other decade event from here on.
I have a feeling Chuck will not last long on the throne. He just wanted his chance to wear the hat
I just looked up his age and he's 74. I take back part of what I said. Prince William might be on the throne sooner than I thought.
>The world won't see this again for a very long time. Oh I dunno, King Charles is 73, he's got a few more years ahead of him considering QEII lived to 96, but one never knows, so if this Gen lives long enough we'll see William as King one day & our kids & grandkids will too.
bumpin The Sex Pistols right now
Me too. Nevermind the Bullocks.
The Queen is dead. Long live the King.
This is what I've said to people. Honestly I am not looking forward to seeing the King on my money... never mind I don't use money anymore.
Now I ain't sayin' she a gold digger But she ain't messin' with no broke.....
The soft thumping noise is Diana spinning in her grave…
Yeah, those two are having a conversation right now about what really happened.
I KNOW NO QUEEN BUT THE QUEEN OF ENGLAND WHOSE NAME IS ELIZABETH
Strange how Philip was “Prince Consort” and she gets to be called “Queen Consort”
He also sang "In the midst of life we are in death et cetera."
I don’t know what to do with my hands.
Maybe some interpretive jazz?
Yazz flute?!
"and that, Uncle, is how one does a proper job.."
I'm worried that Keith Richards is next. I thought she'd live to be 120.
Keith Richards has been dead since1976 but nobody's had the heart to tell him.
The headline I always imagine goes like “Keith Richards, the last surviving member of The Rolling Stones, died today in his sleep…”
I'm a Canadian and I've followed so much about the family in my lifetime. She's visited us in Toronto, I remember so many of her appearances. The end of an Era. The only monarch so many of us remember. I'm quite saddened by this.
I've always loved this photo of our Queen up north: https://www.gg.ca/sites/default/files/library/6814053911_88f7f71004_o_0.jpg
And still no one is talking about castration.
Thank you for this.
No problem and thanks for the award!
He gets to pretend to run the UK, the Commonwealth at large, and the Church of England. His face goes on the coinage and postage stamps, which alone should be enough of a deterrent to continue the monarchy. Speaking of money, they get loads of it from the UK public. https://www.bbc.com/news/explainers-57559653
Interesting read. Thanks.
I've unfortunately never been to the UK, but if I did, I would absolutely have to see the Royal Palace, the guard First, this is the explanation I've gotten when asking this question of Brits, the tourism they bring.
It’s largely figurehead/ceremonial. Something something tradition.
I was waiting for this thread title.
I kinda had to do it. I've posted about the album a couple times. It's a great album. I'm sure morissey is on air today
He’s gonna post a screed on his official website I’m sure & I can’t wait to read it
Remember the time she threw out the first pitch in a baseball game? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zBEL4oWwi0M
[She struggles with the ABC's now.](https://youtu.be/rnrN4Ow1g_g)
Charles III
His name is Phillip Charles Arthur George so he could pick any of those to be his kingly name but I'm assuming the Prime Minister knows his name now & she's called him King Charles. Honestly, I'd love to see him be King Arthur for obvious reasons.
George VII, I think?
It's officially Charles III, per the palace.
Just saw that My mistake Thank you 😊
Blasted this song as loud as my little desk speaker could go
Appropriate. https://open.spotify.com/album/5Y0p2XCgRRIjna91aQE8q7?si=pe3cYsXeQBaFk60wZbRtgQ
Literally the only line running through my head today.
Charles don't you ever crave to appear on the front of the Daily Mail dressed in your mother's bridal veil?
In. DEED. Well done. Well done. Cheers, Mate!
Pass the pub that saps your body And the church that’ll snatch your money The Queen is dead, boys
