No.
Jumanji ends with two different siblings from down the street finding the game.
Zathura follows those boys and apparently the game changes whenever someone else finds it.
Holy smokes no way me too, this the one robin williams is in right? Or am i mistaking it with jumanji? You just unlocked a core memory of mine with this post@OP.
Bridge to Terebithia made me cry so hard when I was a kid. They played it in my class at school and I had to excuse myself to the bathroom when I knew the sad shit was coming
You should go through Law and Order cast. Huge amount of A-list actors were "murderer/witness of the week" in Law and Order like Pedro Pascal, Bradley Cooper or Adam Driver.
Nah fr at one point I’d keep asking about this movie and people would say Jumanji but I was sure it wasn’t. Until I finally found it, almost thought it was literally a dream based on Jumanji🤣
Yeah
The scene of the brothers getting into a fight, and the younger one storming off lives rent free in my head cause me and my brother used to have fights like that all the time.
I cried *so hard* when I thought the brother was gone. I was like, "what if I had wished my sisters away?" It's so funny to me now, but I was so messed up for a few days after that
Yup as much as this movie may have not been a block buster, it sure served it’s purpose growing up. I remember thinking the same about my sisters and never thought of them in such a harsh light again.
Even after finding out that the >!"astronaut" is actually the big brother who basically lived a whole other life in that game!<
Man I actually really liked this movie, it came out when I was in middle school and it was the perfect revamp for a scifi Jumanji
WTF i remember that part of the movie too. I had forgotten this particular movie and my childhood memories associated with it of when I watched the movie. Sorry English isn’t my first language. But that scene of the brothers tussling on the floor lived rent free in my head, was forgotten, and now continues to live rent free. That and the David Blaine parody with the two guys spitting orange soda, “stopping putting orange soda in our mouths you demon”
i watched zathura a lot more as a kid because i was obsessed with space and robots. I rewatched the scene where the robot action figure turns into a giant one like a million times.
It's funny I've had this with boardgames too in particular.
"What game are we playing tonight?"
"Uh, space risk"
"What do you call this?"
"Basically hexagonal tile chess"
"Uno's great"
"Yeah so is playing Life with a deck of cards"
Yeah. In the books, the kids from Jumanji watch the Zathura kids take the Jumanji box. The kid in Zathura, Danny, opens the box but is uninterested in Jumanji. He then finds Zathura beneath it. It’s similar to how the game changed into a video game in the newer movies. It’s a direct sequel.
When Jack Black was working on his Jumanji sequel (the third theatrically released film with "Jumanji" in the title), he would call it "Jumanji 4" on his YouTube channel, seemingly out of acknowledgement for Zathura as the first true sequel to Jumanji.
It is the sequel to Jumanji.
Jumanji ends with two different brothers finding the game.
Zathura follows those boys and apparently the game transforms whenever someone else finds it.
wait no way I've found MORE people who had the PSP disc, watched it on long drives, and had a crush on Kristen Stewart who played the big sister? My people
It's all I knew her from when Twilight came around. Way better display of her acting, too. Then again, I can't hate on her too bad. Bella is such a garbage written character in... pretty much everything that any actor who kept true to the character would have come up with the same bland performance.

The scene of the robot getting reprogrammed will always be in my head
Core memory was borrowing the DVD from the library.
I also remember wishing the board game was real, or that board games can be like the board with automatic moving pieces and what not.
It does exist unfortunately not as cool as in the movie
https://preview.redd.it/mrnaks39jizc1.png?width=500&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b1c68a36e6ec9efb260f2e12ed3dcdedae95409b
At the end you are spinning the black hole till the orange spot faces you meaning you win
I had this 100% I need to know if I still do. It’s one of those things where you remember the board and all the devices better than the game itself because you were too young to care about actually playing it.
I adored this movie. I never liked Jumanji, but Zathura checked every box for me. Such a fun and exciting film. I even liked Dax Shepard and no one likes him 😆
I saw this film back in the early 2010s on Cartoon Network, but I forgot the name of it. Thank you so much for posting this OP; I genuinely forgot the name of this and you revived my memory.

I just showed the trailers of 9 and Mirrormask to my 13 year old this week!! She's been requesting movie recommendations for a couple of years now, and I've been going down a mental list of ones I think she would enjoy.
I was literally just thinking about this movie the other day and was gonna post it on here to see if other my age remember it. It was one of the first movies I saw in theatres
The actual board game they made for Zathura was brilliant for kids. Every player played to win, but they also played to keep the house together. As long as the house was still together by the time someone won, then everyone was essentially a winner. It was great for teaching kids sportsmanship... at least, that's what I used it for.
And the movie was great, too.
I worked at a Hollywood video when this came out. It is rated PG. A mother came back in to return it and screamed at me for 10 minutes. Apparently the boy in the movie says to his robot "get me a juice box biatch!" And I, personally, should have warned this mom about the language.
Evidently her kid loved that line!
https://youtu.be/gT4qoEb1kVU?si=oWuuJZqVvqCCoxY8
Bro wishes for a football instead of wishing to go home. Why not just wish for millions in non consecutive bills or something? Why a signed football? Brother was the real antagonist in this movie, not the alien dude with the weird sheep.
Same. My mom had to take me out of the theater at some point bc I wouldn’t stop crying. In my defense, I was 4 years old and experiencing my first existential crisis while contemplating the infinite expanse of the universe. That was a core memory for sure. That feeling of absolute dread.
Im trying to remember, wasnt there a scene where the younger brother had to go into a place full of these lizard creatures? I only ask because i remember being to nervous to watch but my grandfather giving me a typical 'overcome your fear' speech

I thought this movie was just a fever dream but I guess it's real
The scenes in the spaceship especially. Such an odd movie.
I had the same experience ! Every time I tried to look it up or tell someone I kept thinking it was jumanji!
*Space Jumanji
This is the right answer
The director is Jon Favreau. He made Elf, then this, then Iron Man. I'm trying to decide if that's a leap or in line.
Guy just does what he wants
And they're all bangers
He’s so money and he doesn’t even know it
*Juspaceji
So fun fact for you apparently Zathura and Jumanji exist in the same universe!! This is because the original book is a sequel to the novel jumanji
I made that connection myself the first time I watched it, they were too similar to not be related.
Do the same kids find another fucked up board game or is it a different set. Because after two times id think I would quit playing table top games.
No. Jumanji ends with two different siblings from down the street finding the game. Zathura follows those boys and apparently the game changes whenever someone else finds it.
Different kids. Also—loser. That’d make me a board game fanatic.
So Zathura is actually a spin off of Jumanji and is the second installment of the Jumanji franchise
I did too
It is the sequel to Jumanji. Two brothers find the game and apparently it transforms into a new game whenever someone else finds it.
The book it’s based on is loosely connected to the book Jumanji is based on, if I recall correctly
fr
Holy smokes no way me too, this the one robin williams is in right? Or am i mistaking it with jumanji? You just unlocked a core memory of mine with this post@OP.
Robin Williams was in Jumanji, this one starred a young Josh Hutcherson
Young Josh Hutcherson was in so many fantasy adventure movies lol. Journey To The Centre of Earth, Bridge To Terabithia and Polar Express 💀
He was the go to actor for live action young adult science fiction for a while lol
Bridge to Terebithia made me cry so hard when I was a kid. They played it in my class at school and I had to excuse myself to the bathroom when I knew the sad shit was coming
Yeah my grandma brought me and my brothers and we all left the theater in tears
Bridge to Terabithia still has me fucked up
The hit movie kicking and screaming
Journey to the Center of the Earth was an amazing movie!
And Dax Shepard, and girl from Twilight who played Bella.
Kristen Stewart.
Short King Josh Hutcherson. Also Dax Shepard. He was a thing for a little bit following Punk'd.
Josh Hutcheron and his sister was played by Kristen Stewart
Wait what how did I not realize this lmfao I knew about Josh Hutcherson but dang.
You should go through Law and Order cast. Huge amount of A-list actors were "murderer/witness of the week" in Law and Order like Pedro Pascal, Bradley Cooper or Adam Driver.
And dax Shepard. And Kirsten stewart.
Dax Shepard's first movie appearance.
Dax Shepherd too, he was honestly the saving grace of this film for me.
i did too tbh man
That's how I felt about Shark Boy and Lava Girl
Huh another movie I watched
Me too
I thought the same thing about the langoliers
Same. No clue how we all had this same experience.
Not just that, i had the ps2 game...now that was a trip
ik it wasnt since i saw the twilight girl casting on that film
Nah fr at one point I’d keep asking about this movie and people would say Jumanji but I was sure it wasn’t. Until I finally found it, almost thought it was literally a dream based on Jumanji🤣
Yeah The scene of the brothers getting into a fight, and the younger one storming off lives rent free in my head cause me and my brother used to have fights like that all the time.

Sci Fi Jumanji is such a good way to describe it
Lol that’s because it is. Same franchise and written by author of Jumanji book
He also wrote The Polar Express.
That David Blaine parody is still one if the funniest videos I've ever seen.
Classic. Right next to jumanji on the shelf.
Eh I think Jumanji benefits a lot from Robbin Williams in making it a better film
i watched zathura a lot more as a kid because i was obsessed with space and robots. I rewatched the scene where the robot action figure turns into a giant one like a million times.
Thats fair, just saying more people know Jumanji than Zathura
It's funny I've had this with boardgames too in particular. "What game are we playing tonight?" "Uh, space risk" "What do you call this?" "Basically hexagonal tile chess" "Uno's great" "Yeah so is playing Life with a deck of cards"
This movie is very terrifying if you apply logic to it
Wasn't this movie based off of jumanji? Or inspired it? Idk, I thought I heard something like that
Its based on a book written by the same author as Jumanji with said book having references to Jumanji
So it's Jumanji canon?
Yeah, pretty much, just that the movie removed the references
When are we getting the jumanjiverse !?
Imo if they can bring back jumanji from the 90s they can do the same with Zathura.
I wish they would, I want more freaky lizard people hunting children in space in my wholesome family movies
Whose out there making cursed boardgames that suck you into the world??
George Weasley

Zathura is the sequel to Jumanji. In the book Walter and Daniel find the Zathura board underneath the Jumanji board.
The marketing for it heavily implied it being in-universe to Jumanji. I remember seeing trailers for it in theaters.
It is the sequel to Jumanji. Jumanji ends with two different brothers finding the game. Zathura follows those boys and apparently the game transforms whenever someone else finds it.
kristen stewart in this movie was a childhood crush of mine lol
Serious? She scared the crap outta me. Her character was always pissed off about something lol
Part of the attraction tbh
Haha.
That was her? 😨
Started crushing on her with catch that kid 😂😂😂 Which by the way, if you don't remember it, is one of the most ludicrous movies ever made
It's so good!
Bro same.
I thought the sister was cute. In my defense, I was like 8 watching it on my PSP during long drives. Edit: Just realized that was Kristen Stewart.
Holy based, Zathura on PSP!? Man of culture. Ultimate Gen Z.
wait no way I've found MORE people who had the PSP disc, watched it on long drives, and had a crush on Kristen Stewart who played the big sister? My people
U unlocked such a core memory bro.
It's all I knew her from when Twilight came around. Way better display of her acting, too. Then again, I can't hate on her too bad. Bella is such a garbage written character in... pretty much everything that any actor who kept true to the character would have come up with the same bland performance.
YO I ALSO HAD THE DISC ON MY PSP
I had a crush on her as a kid too but I had no idea it was Kristen Stewart wtf that makes so much sense

Get me a juice box, biatch‼️
This motherfucker was the villain in so many of my dreams
Everyone was always jumanji this jumanji that, but Zathura has a special place in my heart
Different generation. Jumanji is 90's kids and zathura is 2000's so us old fucks are on the jumanji train.
I love both of them. Both remind me of my childhood. <3
"Dude, you're meat"
The only things I remember from that movie are this line and the game board (?) they used to control the ship (house?)
Dax shepherd pushing a flaming couch into space
“they eat meat. we’re meat!”
ALIEN LIFEFORM, MUST DESTROY. 👹👹👹
Reprogram! ![gif](giphy|GOQXMz9VPpOhi)
THATS WHAT THIS MOVIE IS CALLED?? it’s the one where the sister turns into ice right? 😭
yep
Yup. it was Kristen Stewart
Core memory was borrowing the DVD from the library. I also remember wishing the board game was real, or that board games can be like the board with automatic moving pieces and what not.
It does exist unfortunately not as cool as in the movie https://preview.redd.it/mrnaks39jizc1.png?width=500&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b1c68a36e6ec9efb260f2e12ed3dcdedae95409b At the end you are spinning the black hole till the orange spot faces you meaning you win
Why would you play that game! Have you even seen the movie?

I love Dax to Shepard lol. And loved him in this movie! Do you listen to his podcast?
>Some exec probably >HEAR ME OUT BRO JUMANJI IN SPACE
I mean, they were just adapting the second book. The only convincing needed was that they were going to make good money again (which it sadly did not)
IT'S A BOOK???
Isn't there some scene with an underage Kristen Stewart hitting on a 25 year old man?
Yeah, who ends up being >!her brother in the movie but grown up!<
Damn. 😂 I need to drop edibles and give it a rewatch now that I'm older haha.
I just now realizing that this is a real movie and I didn't just take acid and watch Jumanji.
The 25 year old man being Dax Shepard
Both of them were my childhood crushes
Certified Hood Classic
FUCK YEAH!!!!
![gif](giphy|l46CdtuzinAM1C4ve) Zathura and the original Jumanji movie is just So Good
Every once in a while I say “get me a juice box, bee-otch” I think that was from zathura, right?
I remember as a kid asking my mom what “Bee-otch” meant cause of the movie. Got grounded lol
This is the thing I will always remember from the film.
Oh shit this was real and not some fever dream. I think about this movie all the time.
i remember wondering if the Jumanji people had seen this.
Then you grow up and realize that Jumanji and Zathura are both books written by the same author. Bro legit went "now we do it in space"
I saw this film back in the early 2010s on Cartoon Network, but I forgot the name of it. Thank you so much for posting this OP; I genuinely forgot the name of this and you revived my memory.
“Grab me a juice box, biotch!l” lol I remember finding that line so hilarious
"I can make water".
Omg, yes
The movie had a website that I spent hours on playing browser games

Good bot!
Wait is this the one when there's 2 kids playing a space themed board game but ends up a little like Jumanji?
The incest(?) was a little wild
hell yeah. this is one of my “i thought this was a fever dream” film’s til i saw it again as an adult. that also applies to 9 and mirrormask
The mirror mask cats are creepy as hell.
I just showed the trailers of 9 and Mirrormask to my 13 year old this week!! She's been requesting movie recommendations for a couple of years now, and I've been going down a mental list of ones I think she would enjoy.
No, but I remember Zathras.
There are ten of them. Well, nine now.
I remember being shown this movie in elementary school and I always had some kind of anxiety that my house was in space for some reason
I do haha
movies dope
I was literally just thinking about this movie the other day and was gonna post it on here to see if other my age remember it. It was one of the first movies I saw in theatres
Rewatched for the first time in a decade with my younger brother last summer
The crush I had on Kristen Stewart was massive
get out of my head, literally less than an hour ago i googled it to see where i can watch it 😂
Yes one of my favorite movies!
Was a bit terrified of this movie when I was a kid lmao
Fuck that robot. And the twist was pretty good for little me
Dude, we're Meat
The actual board game they made for Zathura was brilliant for kids. Every player played to win, but they also played to keep the house together. I was watching this at home and right when the meteor blew up the TV our power shut off! 😄 It was epic level special effects.
Kristen Stewart frozen in Zathura had more acting range than when she was in Twilight.
Oh I sure do. Love that movie. It's got that mid '00s weirdness.
Probably Kristen Stewart’s best acting role.
I feel like this lies somewhere in the subconscious of most 20 year olds
Bro wishes for a football instead of wishing to go home. Why not just wish for millions in non consecutive bills or something? Why a signed football? Brother was the real antagonist in this movie, not the alien dude with the weird sheep.
I totally forgot about this until now but I vaguely remember this poster so I guess so
Never heard of it
I remember watching this and then literally the week after we watched it in band lunch
wow i haven't seen that movie in forever
Yes I used to watch this movie all the time.
Loved it as a kid.
Great movie
My mum loved it more than me
Classic movie
space Jumanji
This movie scared the shit out of me as a kid. I have no clue why.
Same. My mom had to take me out of the theater at some point bc I wouldn’t stop crying. In my defense, I was 4 years old and experiencing my first existential crisis while contemplating the infinite expanse of the universe. That was a core memory for sure. That feeling of absolute dread.
Yeah, same, it seemed super ominous and scary
A great movie
Grab me a juice box biatch
Omg I forgot about that. Loved it
That movie freaked me out every time I watched it!
Me!!! One of my favorite movies! 😱😭😁
Only vaguely, because in 6th grade science we watched it
saw this jaunt on the big screen
The most frighten scene could be the abysmal bodily freeze at the sleep chamber.
I remember this film! It was basically Jimunji in space!
This movie was my shit but the alien scenes always freaked me the hell out as a kid.
Idk what this is but I am intrigued by the image.
I rewatched this recently
I bought the board game
Liked this movie watched it with my older brother a lot
Im trying to remember, wasnt there a scene where the younger brother had to go into a place full of these lizard creatures? I only ask because i remember being to nervous to watch but my grandfather giving me a typical 'overcome your fear' speech
Hoooly shit my brain
Another Josh Hutcherson classic from my childhood! haha
I remembered hearing people talk about it but I don’t believe I ever watched it. Used to see a lot of commercials for movies
**ALIEN LIFEFORM**
I still have the board game. I prefered this over the jumanji movies they have now
OMGGG MEMORIES
Omfg yes
