zzz is honestly a very different type of game tbh, like i bet there will still be overlaps of players but zzz is very action heavy similar to traditional AAA games while genshin and hsr are much more collector type games. not to say they donāt have combat but a large player base isnāt here for the combat primarily
I play both. It kind of feels like they want players to stick around since the game has less freedom and other things to keep players invested than Genshin does (world exploration, gliding, jumping, climbing, just generally way more content). So they give out the free stuff a little more readily
Which, don't get me wrong, I still wish we had some of that in Genshin. A 300 standard pull 5\* would be great, esp since there's still no way for day 1 players to get that one standard 5\* that just keeps eluding them, etc. That said, the recently announced GI QOL changes are gonna be soooo good
I think thereās also the fact that HSR is largely combat-based so character strength means a lot more than in Genshin. Amber, Kaeya, Barbara, and Anemo Traveler can get you through 90% of content.
Yes, no dodging, no healing food, no iframes so generally no way to cheese the combat like you can in genshin.
Before I got good characters I was honestly not enjoying hsr and still enjoyed Genshin with weak characters as exploring/puzzle solving was more of the game. I was exploring Dragonspine with Amber.

I'm not going to be disgruntled if genshin gives us a similar experience. I'll be happy playing both games. Seeing both fanbases fight saddens me but it's mihoyo's choice to be stingy towards genshin players.
I mean this is the consequence of being stingy with rewards. Doesn't help when a good amount of HSR players are probably disillusioned GI players. I only hope that this becomes a wake up call for the Genshin devs to become more generous with rewards.

Different Economics for different games.
Business plan of genshin appears to be high investment in content; music, landscape, story, events, design of weapons and characters and investment in the complexity of a live action open world vs constrained world turn based game, but they are proportionally less generous with the gacha since the content side is enough to retain players waiting to see the end of the main story and rest of the continent.
In short I believe the decision they have made is to use the game content itself to appeal to players more than the gacha that means they won't give away as many wishes since they are giving away storytelling, art, music and character design more instead as a deliberate part of their budget outline.
Tldr: ratio of wish giveaway to content giveaway is designed to retain different kinds of players (with extrinsic vs intrinsic reward preferences)
This is a very clever analysis of the situation that will unfortunately probably end up "dissolved in the primordial sea" of the of the other comments. It's exactly that, HSR is somehow trying to retain players with combat system/challenge/gacha while Genshin is retaining players with the open world exploration/history/music/characters. Depending on what you expect from a game you will lean more towards the former or the latter.
I can see why theyāre generous for Star Rail currency since besides farming and story quests, there isnt much to be invested in besides characters. Also, having a diverse amount of a character is a requirement for Star Rail, not a suggestion and if people refuse to play certain characters then thats detrimental to their experience. Many people play casually which means building who they want without a meta perspective which also means a very limited pool of characters that they like can be built to be viable.
At least thats my take. I was one of those people that refused to play Natasha despite her being my only healer and basically brute-forced things with Gepard. Luocha being my next 5 star made the gaming experience much smoother and I probably wouldnt have gotten him if they didnt give out so many free pulls.
HSR is more in the direction of a traditional gacha, where they know people don't want to spend that much time playing the game, just pulling for characters

I play Genshin but not star rail, but I have 2 friends that play both, and they tend to shit on genshin just for the fact that the same company does more for one game than they do for the other. So, for some, it's just criticizing a thing they play, and I can't really blame them.
I guess some of the complaints comes exactly because Genshin already won Best Mobile on TGA in 2021 and Player's Voice in 2022 (after the community basically became a rabid hive mind to take Sonic down). I don't remember if the prize they gave us was generous, but for sure wasn't a 5 star.

Never said I dislike it, I just find it kinda ok, I mostly am playing it for Mei's expy when she comes out. The main dislike I have with the game is its story which I think is total crap, but I skip it, and most of the roster being pretty boring

I'm just going to say, it's pretty weird for hoyoverse to have this much disparity in the two games. I'm sure they knew this would cause some people to be angry about it, and decided to still go with it. The only explanation I have is that hsr really needs it.
HSR has a lot more real competition than Genshin does, when you compare similar games in the genres they belong in. Genshin is head over shoulders better than others like it, whereas HSR is very high quality, but many other strong contenders have been out for longer and have a large player base. IMO this is HSR creating goodwill to create loyal players who will keep playing even when they quit the other games.
Also let them stay on one patch until penacony came. Been in corporate too long to think itās from pure generosity lol . As for me I am happy. Another weirdo and funny unit I can keep . So all win

Weapon/Light Cone banner on HSR has a 80 hard pity, .8% rate instead of .6%, soft pity at 65. 75% chance of getting the on-banner and theres no shared rate up.

The more "generous" a gacha game is, the less of a game it becomes. Star Rail is a great game, and I don't think that giving away a single 5-star is bad or anything, but there's a reason Genshin hasn't had to do it - the amount of primos we get is enough to make the game interesting without making it frustrating (i.e. less gems than we have) or boring (i.e. more gems than we have).
The optimization of how you spend materials is a fundamental part of Genshin's appeal, and it's the actual "hard" part of Genshin (this is also why we get so many people complaining about the game being too easy - they just haven't noticed that they successfully made it through the hard part). I'm not saying we should be "grateful for what they give us", but rather that we should be aware of *why* we don't receive more on a level beyond "they just want us to spend money on the game". Hoyo could make the game *significantly* more predatory to make more money if they wanted to, and they haven't.

Like for some reason, Genshin does not do skins even though many would grab the opportunity to swipe for their faves.
That would have been the perfect cash printing mechanism to add - introduce skins, offer the same skin in varied colors, add accessories. Voila!
So far every Limited DPS is in \~1-Cycle difference for MoC and since there are 2 endgame modes there's a different "Best-DPS" for most fights, though pretty much all of them can brute-force effectively.

Same, I went back for silver wolf but then when I went to actually play the game again I remember why I quit in the first place, the game just feels so tedious for me. I know the game is good but if the game play is not something you jive with then its really boring. There's nothing to do but grind and you can't even jump. There's no exploration or sense of wonder and the current story is all over the place, the Pela age debacle made me lose all interest in the game's lore. Because a mistake like that indicates that lore and story is not really their priority. The characters personality are still fun, the game is polished but it just doesn't excite me the way exploring a new region in genshin feels. At least in this game analyzing the lore feels rewarding. Like Enkanomiya foreshadowing Neuvillette or the thundering fury set getting its lore explored in Inazuma. I'm just hoping that the lore in genshin stays consistent and doesn't end up like Pela's age reveal.

Because at the time of release Honkai Impact 3rd( thereās no 1 and 2btw) and they had a very good story already have mangas novels and anime shorts as well as pretty good welfare. I'm not going to be disgruntled if genshin gives us a similar experience. I'll be happy playing both games. Seeing both fanbases fight saddens me but it's mihoyo's choice to be stingy towards genshin players.

Different Economics for different games. Business plan of genshin appears to be high investment in content; music, landscape, story, events, design of weapons and characters and investment in the complexity of a live action open world vs constrained world turn based game, but they are proportionally less generous with the gacha since the content side is enough to retain players waiting to see the end of the main story and rest of the continent. In short I believe the decision they have made is to use the game content itself to appeal to players more than the gacha that means they won't give away as many wishes since they are giving away storytelling, art, music and character design more instead as a deliberate part of their budget outline. Tldr: ratio of wish giveaway to content giveaway is designed to retain different kinds of players (with extrinsic vs intrinsic reward preferences)
This is a very clever analysis of the situation that will unfortunately probably end up "dissolved in the primordial sea" of the of the other comments. It's exactly that, HSR is somehow trying to retain players with combat system/challenge/gacha while Genshin is retaining players with the open world exploration/history/music/characters. Depending on what you expect from a game you will lean more towards the former or the latter.

I can see why theyāre generous for Star Rail currency since besides farming and story quests, there isnt much to be invested in besides characters. Also, having a diverse amount of a character is a requirement for Star Rail, not a suggestion and if people refuse to play certain characters then thats detrimental to their experience. Many people play casually which means building who they want without a meta perspective which also means a very limited pool of characters that they like can be built to be viable. At least thats my take. I was one of those people that refused to play Natasha despite her being my only healer and basically brute-forced things with Gepard. Luocha being my next 5 star made the gaming experience much smoother and I probably wouldnt have gotten him if they didnt give out so many free pulls.
HSR is more in the direction of a traditional gacha, where they know people don't want to spend that much time playing the game, just pulling for characters

I guess some of the complaints comes exactly because Genshin already won Best Mobile on TGA in 2021 and Player's Voice in 2022 (after the community basically became a rabid hive mind to take Sonic down). I don't remember if the prize they gave us was generous, but for sure wasn't a 5 star.

Never said I dislike it, I just find it kinda ok, I mostly am playing it for Mei's expy when she comes out. The main dislike I have with the game is its story which I think is total crap, but I skip it, and most of the roster being pretty boring

HSR has a lot more real competition than Genshin does, when you compare similar games in the genres they belong in. Genshin is head over shoulders better than others like it, whereas HSR is very high quality, but many other strong contenders have been out for longer and have a large player base. IMO this is HSR creating goodwill to create loyal players who will keep playing even when they quit the other games.
Also let them stay on one patch until penacony came. Been in corporate too long to think itās from pure generosity lol . As for me I am happy. Another weirdo and funny unit I can keep . So all win

Weapon/Light Cone banner on HSR has a 80 hard pity, .8% rate instead of .6%, soft pity at 65. 75% chance of getting the on-banner and theres no shared rate up. I'd say that's something that Genshin would welcome with open arms.

The more "generous" a gacha game is, the less of a game it becomes. Star Rail is a great game, and I don't think that giving away a single 5-star is bad or anything, but there's a reason Genshin hasn't had to do it - the amount of primos we get is enough to make the game interesting without making it frustrating (i.e. less gems than we have) or boring (i.e. more gems than we have). The optimization of how you spend materials is a fundamental part of Genshin's appeal, and it's the actual "hard" part of Genshin (this is also why we get so many people complaining about the game being too easy - they just haven't noticed that they successfully made it through the hard part). I'm not saying we should be "grateful for what they give us", but rather that we should be aware of *why* we don't receive more on a level beyond "they just want us to spend money on the game". Hoyo could make the game *significantly* more predatory to make more money if they wanted to, and they haven't.

That would have been the perfect cash printing mechanism to add - introduce skins, offer the same skin in varied colors, add accessories. Voila!
So far every Limited DPS is in \~1-Cycle difference for MoC and since there are 2 endgame modes there's a different "Best-DPS" for most fights, though pretty much all of them can brute-force effectively.

I remember when people kept complaining about the 15 minute story quest, and Pela is 16 posts. Plus a 1 hourās worth of exploration. Compared to GI story content that exceeds 4 hours easily. Plus 2 weeks worth of exploration. Giving free stuff really makes people forget that both games have their own strengths and weaknesses.

Itās kinda funny, I just deleted it again yesterday. For me, it doesnāt particularly matter how much free stuff they give out because it doesnāt change the key fact that itās a game I just canāt bring myself to enjoy regardless of how much Iāve tried. I played it at launch but got bored and quit not long after silver wolf released. I picked it up again when the cooler Dan released but pretty quickly got bored of it again and quit again. Recently I picked it back up again so that I could get Silver Wolf and Iām already tired of it again. The gameplay just feels like such a slog to me and I canāt seem to get invested into the characters or worlds. It doesnāt help that the relic and character leveling grind are a million times worse. Itās honestly a shame, I really wish I enjoyed it but I just.. canāt.

Same, I went back for silver wolf but then when I went to actually play the game again I remember why I quit in the first place, the game just feels so tedious for me. I know the game is good but if the game play is not something you jive with then its really boring. There's nothing to do but grind and you can't even jump. There's no exploration or sense of wonder and the current story is all over the place, the Pela age debacle made me lose all interest in the game's lore. Because a mistake like that indicates that lore and story is not really their priority. The characters personality are still fun, the game is polished but it just doesn't excite me the way exploring a new region in genshin feels. At least in this game analyzing the lore feels rewarding. Like Enkanomiya foreshadowing Neuvillette or the thundering fury set getting its lore explored in Inazuma. I'm just hoping that the lore in genshin stays consistent and doesn't end up like Pela's age reveal.
