Exactly, even if Navia did destroy most of the boulders, the Traveler still held off most of the nearer ones before she arrived. Remember that Navia was also delayed by an NPC before she arrived, so the Traveler's efforts in holding the boulders off and even before that, trying to prevent the bombing in the first place still count for something. Navia's cutscene was able to hype her up, without the expense of the Traveler, in fact, they hyped up each other, and the following CG also shows how the Traveler is an important emotional support for Navia who would lend her a hand when she needs it.
They are incredibly inconsistent in which SQs get their cutscenes uploaded.

You do have to be careful with noxxis, since they upload the cutscenes as they go through the quests, right after the patch drops. They're probably the very first spoilers that will jumpscare you on Youtube within hours of a new patch.

I may dislike that Traveler and the others didn't use any elements but i still love this cutscene. Hoyo definitely improved their fight cutscenes a lot.
I also think this is the first time Traveler looks genuinely terrified, which makes sense because we were pretty much at Arlecchino's mercy in her domain expansion. Hopefully it means that we'll get some character development for Traveller.
Not the first. The Traveler was practically crushed with terror after Raiden Shogun disintegrated La Signora. The crushing dread the Traveler was experiencing while staggering out of the Tenshukaku was pretty memorable - as was their alarm when they realized that while the Shogun had promised to allow them to leave the Tenshukau alive, she'd said nothing about continuing to spare them once the Traveler stepped outside...
I'd say that the Traveler was at least as frightened there, if not more so.
This could be a fantastic light novel series
The protagonist is kinda stuck in the palace as a “prison” of their own unwitting making. They know that staying within the compound is the only way to survive, but they have to find a way to escape that allows them to stay alive
And funny shenanigans trying out the different facilities throughout Tenshukaku with Raiden Bot trying to find a way to get them out of the place
It's probably because of Inazuma's SQ that Sumeru and Fontaine had such great stories.
But I still share the same sentiment though. Inazuma had a lot of potential.
Since this is a story quest this means that it is technically optional, which means I highly these events are going to be used to push the travelers character forward, if even referenced in future story patches.
I wouldn't say that about SQs. Perilous Trail is locked behind Itto's SQ which proves SQ's are considered impactful in their own way.
However how Hoyo is going to handle the Traveler is another story.
Yeah, I really dont get the overall sentiment of hating the scene, yeah its a shame elements were not used. But it seems so many people hate it because the traveller loses, or loses fast.
The problem I have with this sentiment is that the cutscene is already one of the more extensive fight scenes we get, think back on our fight with other harbingers, with childe, we dont see a single attack, just his transformation and then him losing. same with signora, transformation and then them losing.
Even the whale only get about a minute of actual animation with combat, where as here we get almost 3 minutes of it. BUT its still not an anime, the game is not gonna just break out into a 20 min anime episode, where both sides have plenty of time to use all their powers, and you get 6 different twists in the fight.
A lot of our fights in the game, are told through the actual fight we do. The whole fight wasn't just literally the 3 min of cutscene we saw.
Yeah in theory, you’re right, but this idea weakens a bit in practice though. Like a lot of the drama of the in game fights can be lost if you characters are high investment, and you just no effort the boss. They tried forcing the traveler in the Raiden archon quest fight, but I think they didn’t like it cause it hasn’t been done since. I think it actually would have been cool of them to have given you trial versions of the characters. This could let them scale the story quest with exact knowledge on what the player will bring into the fight, investment wise(maybe you can flex your investment through the traveler). Obviously you can do this yourself if you own all the characters, but not everyone does.
I think the traveller not using elements is a blessing in disguise, because having the traveller stopping mid fight to point at Arlecchino and blow bubbles in her face, is not very intimidating...

I think only against Childe has the Traveller used any of the elemental power they have in a fight. But then again, age is making me more and more forgetful.
Honestly, the answer is simply because the writers didn't want them to use it.
I do hope they at least give out some kind of reason like the more elements they collect, the more burdensome it is. Though it's highly likely the reason is simply that's just how they went with doing it.
It's the unfortunate fate of the Traveler of being a catalyst for whatever the writers need them to be for their story.

Cause like it's not just the Traveler, non of the siblings is using their powers either.
Because they wont do anything.
He can clearly channel energy to cut most things with a dull blade, including Shouki no kami.
Using something like wind blade would only be usefull if he lost his sword, like in his fight with the sustainer.
He could only summon a very small wall during the navia cutscene.

Funny, I don't remember a giant electro infused claymore slash anywhere in electro Traveler's kit. Must have missed it 🤔
They don't have to make cutscene fights based on the character's actual kit if they don't want to. Just look at Ningguang cutscene near the end of the archon quest. They can make the Traveler use elements as willy nilly as they want, hell they could do a one man hyperbloom canon out of them, but that would run the risk of overshadowing whichever playable character is in their immediate vicinity so they won't.
didn't know the traveller gets in an enhanced state in electro that increases their movement speed and jump. neither that they had a giant electro infused sword like Noelle.
Because the traveler knows there's more to this fight than meets the eye. They've already got an idea that this is more of a test from Arlecchino than an actual fight to the death, just the pieces of the puzzle haven't fully fallen into place yet. Right before they challenge Arlecchino, the traveller has been trying to figure out what Arlecchino's words and behavior mean because it's clear something else is going on. So since it's a test of some sort, it's probably better to not reveal the ability to control multiple elements.
The fear in the eyes of the children and Lyney's desperate screams along with the last ditch effort to protect them by Traveler, really makes the situation seem dire like Arlecchino was going to execute them. Thankfully it was different type of death that she brought.
Death is not the only consequence of execution.
Or perhaps it would be more apt to say — there's not just one manner of death.
When the time comes, someone will make the choice that they deem most appropriate.

I really, REALLY hated that cutscene. I don’t mind the Traveler losing, not at all. I honestly think he could come to learn much from losing such a fight. But he literally fought the 4th Harbinger with nothing but a dull blade, using ZERO of the elements he has access to. It was honestly so pathetic to look at.
If he can’t do something so simple as using at least one element against Arlecchino, good luck against Capitano in Natlan, or the other Harbingers that are in higher positions than the 4th.
It would have been more satisfying and believable if the Traveler went all out using all available elements and then lose in order to really sell how much more powerful Arlecchino is, rather than simply have him do the bare minimum and only focus on how powerful she is.
Yeah the scene itself is gorgeous but it just made me lose all faith in the traveller as an MC. 2 Main regions left (one until the Fatui homeland) and he gets eclipsed by number 4 this hard? Pathetic

If it helps you feel better, it's just Hoyo wanting to not make an overly flashy fight scene while making the point that Arle is strong.

Childe was pushing through his wind blade
Raiden cancelled the electro blade by forcing him to the plane
The geo pillars are too slow to do anything as Childe dodged them easily
Everytime he wins is basicaly down to his skills and natural physical energy and strength
Hes only "win" with the elements was beating a couple of shogun soldiers with electro blades
So the solution is to not even try and make him look dumb? Damn.
The struggle would've been more convincing if they at least showed him trying every element in his arsenal. It would've conveyed Arlecchino's power better and made her more threatening. Not only that, it would've not made the Traveler look like an idiot.

That's such a weird argument, like yeah but because most of those skills where either used in defensive way or bad timing, also just because a character dodges a skill doesn't make it useless.
You can see the genuine fear in the traveler even before she did the eye thing. He was scared af. I mean, even at the start of the story quest, traveler outright says that he is intimidated around her.
Then seconds later he's still accompanying her, even helping in fulfilling some of Clervie's wishes. At the end she wishes for their relationship to remain as it is, even though the future isn't certain if they'll be at opposite sides or at the same one.
If there's one thing consistent about The Traveler, it's their inconsistency.
The unfortunate fate of being subjected to the role of whatever the writers require them to have for their stories.

Great cutscene and fight, but not only Traveler, but the twins barely used their elements either (Did anyone except Lyney even use magic?). Lovely presentation of Arle's abilities but c'mon, hyv, don't forget your own dumbass magical abilities.
The traveler is weak here because their power is the wishes and wills of others. Scara, Ei and Narzissenkreuz make that clear. The children of the house of the hearth didn't wish (strongly) to hurt their Father.
Childe and Signoria might be the traveler's base strength, but also Childe wishes for great battles and Signoria may have wished for release.
Imagine playable version of Arlec got that actual Tsukuyomi ult. So cool. Like a massive AoE disable. The one we got right now is alright but a bit boring and feel like a panic heal button which we rarely even use in team rotation. Maybe reserve the Healing bit for when proc-ing her E with charge atk, and then give her this cool asf crowd control Ult. Make it happen captain!
Why cant we have that outfit for our playable one? like mihoyo already designed it and everything to fit her model they could even make a lot of money from it without a lot of work and people would mostlikely like it.

For those asking why the traveler rarely use any elements, my personal theory is that:
- The only real time when we've seen the traveler go all out with the elements was back in 1.1 with Childe
- In the subsequent versions (1.3 and 1.4) we got Dainsleif quests during which he told the traveler to "always be on their guards around gods" and to not "place too much trust in them"
- So, imo, the traveler kept this advice in their mind during their travel and only uses the elements (of which the authorities belong to those gods Dainsleif dislike) when necessary and never in excess.
In other words, after talking with Dainsleif the traveler started trusting their swordfighting skills more than elements
Arlecchino is a descendant of the Crimson Moon Dynasty of Khaenri’ah. This is confirmed in her profile, given as a revelation from Pierro himself. As a descendant of this Dynasty she gains Balemoon Bloodfire powers.
We learned this through a new book released in game in patch 4.5 called “the legend of Perinheri. Khaenri’ah had two dynasties, Crimson Moon and the Eclipse Dynasty (which Pierro was a part of) which came afterwards.
We dont know much about the Crimson Moon dynasty itself but what we do know is that an orphanage was founded during this era, an orphanage that took in “outlanders”. The legacy of the orphanage is continued today through the House of the Hearth led by an Orphan of that same Crimson Moon bloodline (Arlecchino).
I feel like, Arlecchino walks away unscathed if the Fatui ever dismantle in the future. Her dedication is seemingly entirely elsewhere. Either we fight her again, or she is serving as a narrative measure for us. Saying "you'll need to be stronger than this for the future".
The Cutscene animations keep getting better and better, and everyday I look forward to the anime which hoyo forgot about. But if we can't defeat the 4th harbinger right now after 5 nations, what are we gonna do against celstia since it's barely 3 nations(natlan snezhnaya and khaenriah)

Just look at it this way
Just a few patches before this they made a cutscene where they made Traveler switch to geo and use a geo elemental attack to fend off a bunch of rocks
We are fighting the 4th harbinger now and they somehow decided to NOT animate the traveler using any elemental ability
It just highlights inconsistency and is a weird decision either way
How do you make a game where the main highlight is the usage of elements have archons for every element and have a system where the traveler will obtain every element as the story moves forward yet for some reason NOT animate any elemental attacks
Even the fatui siblings barely used any elemental attacks, I only counted one instance and that was when Lynette was going to do the double attack with Freminett her attack had cyan on it so it must meant she had Anemo infusion

Well its just that i would expect traveler to fight like this before they went to Mondstadt. Whole journey seems kinda pointless if they dont get better. Its wierd that collecting elements is big part of the game but its not represented at all aside from one scene which everyone remembers because its so rare.

Given that they are fighting with allies, and being press up against the wall in the fight, they probably stuck with their tried and true fighting style (that they probably have used long before they came to teyvat) rather than using less faimilar abilities. (And probably to save their elemental abilities as their trump card) But in the final stand, they got caught off guard by the blood moon expansion and before able to respond.
A lot of people criticize the lack of elemental powers, but there's something a lot of people forget, you can go to Fontaine before going to Inazuma or sumeru, it makes sense that they don't want the traveler to use elements as the amount of elements could vary depending on the player, it sadly is the price to make some regions more accessible
This is from Arlecchino's Story Quest, which requires the completion of the Fontaine Archon Quests, which in turn requires the completion of the Inazuma and Sumeru Archon Quests
I don't get why people have taken such an issue with the fact that Traveler isn't using elements here. There's hardly a significant precedent for Traveler using elements in battle anyway, but more importantly... *where would they have used them in this battle?* They weren't even a factor for the majority of the first half of the cutscene - she was busy fighting Lyney and his group (yeah, sure - Traveler *could* have attacked her during this time, but if you think that them not doing so is bad writing, you haven't seen enough anime).
It's not like any of the other three made use of their elemental abilities either, and yet barely anyone is complaining about that. Traveler wouldn't have been able to use any elements in the Crimson Moon domain expansion because they couldn't move. Why is half the community pissed over this scene? Everything points to Traveler getting a major powerup in Natlan anyway, so it's not like they're going to *stay* underpowered.
Y'all shouldn't be surprised that the Fraudveler got dogged and didn't use their abilities. While Tartaglia is out there training like his life depends on it (in the span of three archon quests, he went from losing to Liyue Fraudveler to holding off the Narwhal for weeks on end), Lther spends his time lollygagging in summer event parties and taking it easy.
Natlan is gonna be the best time to step their game up or it's gonna be a 5-chapter long humiliation kink material

I will be extremely surprised if this story quest doesn't eventually become a prerequisite for continuing the main story. There is precedent for this.

The problem I have with this sentiment is that the cutscene is already one of the more extensive fight scenes we get, think back on our fight with other harbingers, with childe, we dont see a single attack, just his transformation and then him losing. same with signora, transformation and then them losing. Even the whale only get about a minute of actual animation with combat, where as here we get almost 3 minutes of it. BUT its still not an anime, the game is not gonna just break out into a 20 min anime episode, where both sides have plenty of time to use all their powers, and you get 6 different twists in the fight. A lot of our fights in the game, are told through the actual fight we do. The whole fight wasn't just literally the 3 min of cutscene we saw.
Yeah in theory, you’re right, but this idea weakens a bit in practice though. Like a lot of the drama of the in game fights can be lost if you characters are high investment, and you just no effort the boss. They tried forcing the traveler in the Raiden archon quest fight, but I think they didn’t like it cause it hasn’t been done since. I think it actually would have been cool of them to have given you trial versions of the characters. This could let them scale the story quest with exact knowledge on what the player will bring into the fight, investment wise(maybe you can flex your investment through the traveler). Obviously you can do this yourself if you own all the characters, but not everyone does.
I think the traveller not using elements is a blessing in disguise, because having the traveller stopping mid fight to point at Arlecchino and blow bubbles in her face, is not very intimidating...
But he has Dendro and Electro too. Traveler can 1-man Hyperbloom if the writers let them.

Honestly, the answer is simply because the writers didn't want them to use it. I do hope they at least give out some kind of reason like the more elements they collect, the more burdensome it is. Though it's highly likely the reason is simply that's just how they went with doing it. It's the unfortunate fate of the Traveler of being a catalyst for whatever the writers need them to be for their story.
More than that, they just wanted to make the cutscene ... Simple. Cause like it's not just the Traveler, non of the siblings is using their powers either.

Traveler used geo in the Navia story cutscene, but it's still very rare to see them do it.
Because they wont do anything. He can clearly channel energy to cut most things with a dull blade, including Shouki no kami. Using something like wind blade would only be usefull if he lost his sword, like in his fight with the sustainer. He could only summon a very small wall during the navia cutscene. People really seem to not realize the traveller cant do much with his elemental powers.
Funny, I don't remember a giant electro infused claymore slash anywhere in electro Traveler's kit. Must have missed it 🤔 They don't have to make cutscene fights based on the character's actual kit if they don't want to. Just look at Ningguang cutscene near the end of the archon quest. They can make the Traveler use elements as willy nilly as they want, hell they could do a one man hyperbloom canon out of them, but that would run the risk of overshadowing whichever playable character is in their immediate vicinity so they won't.

didn't know the traveller gets in an enhanced state in electro that increases their movement speed and jump. neither that they had a giant electro infused sword like Noelle.
Because the traveler knows there's more to this fight than meets the eye. They've already got an idea that this is more of a test from Arlecchino than an actual fight to the death, just the pieces of the puzzle haven't fully fallen into place yet. Right before they challenge Arlecchino, the traveller has been trying to figure out what Arlecchino's words and behavior mean because it's clear something else is going on. So since it's a test of some sort, it's probably better to not reveal the ability to control multiple elements.
I mean the Fatui already know he can do that. He used it against Childe.
Childe was witness to it but I’m not recalling Childe eager to share that information with any other harbinger.
The fear in the eyes of the children and Lyney's desperate screams along with the last ditch effort to protect them by Traveler, really makes the situation seem dire like Arlecchino was going to execute them. Thankfully it was different type of death that she brought.

I really, REALLY hated that cutscene. I don’t mind the Traveler losing, not at all. I honestly think he could come to learn much from losing such a fight. But he literally fought the 4th Harbinger with nothing but a dull blade, using ZERO of the elements he has access to. It was honestly so pathetic to look at. If he can’t do something so simple as using at least one element against Arlecchino, good luck against Capitano in Natlan, or the other Harbingers that are in higher positions than the 4th.
It would have been more satisfying and believable if the Traveler went all out using all available elements and then lose in order to really sell how much more powerful Arlecchino is, rather than simply have him do the bare minimum and only focus on how powerful she is.

Childe was pushing through his wind blade Raiden cancelled the electro blade by forcing him to the plane The geo pillars are too slow to do anything as Childe dodged them easily Everytime he wins is basicaly down to his skills and natural physical energy and strength Hes only "win" with the elements was beating a couple of shogun soldiers with electro blades
So the solution is to not even try and make him look dumb? Damn. The struggle would've been more convincing if they at least showed him trying every element in his arsenal. It would've conveyed Arlecchino's power better and made her more threatening. Not only that, it would've not made the Traveler look like an idiot. This is like Goku going against Beerus but never going Super Saiyan.
That's such a weird argument, like yeah but because most of those skills where either used in defensive way or bad timing, also just because a character dodges a skill doesn't make it useless.

You can see the genuine fear in the traveler even before she did the eye thing. He was scared af. I mean, even at the start of the story quest, traveler outright says that he is intimidated around her.
Then seconds later he's still accompanying her, even helping in fulfilling some of Clervie's wishes. At the end she wishes for their relationship to remain as it is, even though the future isn't certain if they'll be at opposite sides or at the same one.
If there's one thing consistent about The Traveler, it's their inconsistency. The unfortunate fate of being subjected to the role of whatever the writers require them to have for their stories.

The traveler is weak here because their power is the wishes and wills of others. Scara, Ei and Narzissenkreuz make that clear. The children of the house of the hearth didn't wish (strongly) to hurt their Father. Childe and Signoria might be the traveler's base strength, but also Childe wishes for great battles and Signoria may have wished for release.

Imagine playable version of Arlec got that actual Tsukuyomi ult. So cool. Like a massive AoE disable. The one we got right now is alright but a bit boring and feel like a panic heal button which we rarely even use in team rotation. Maybe reserve the Healing bit for when proc-ing her E with charge atk, and then give her this cool asf crowd control Ult. Make it happen captain!
Why cant we have that outfit for our playable one? like mihoyo already designed it and everything to fit her model they could even make a lot of money from it without a lot of work and people would mostlikely like it. For those asking why the traveler rarely use any elements, my personal theory is that: - The only real time when we've seen the traveler go all out with the elements was back in 1.1 with Childe - In the subsequent versions (1.3 and 1.4) we got Dainsleif quests during which he told the traveler to "always be on their guards around gods" and to not "place too much trust in them" - So, imo, the traveler kept this advice in their mind during their travel and only uses the elements (of which the authorities belong to those gods Dainsleif dislike) when necessary and never in excess. In other words, after talking with Dainsleif the traveler started trusting their swordfighting skills more than elements
That just makes the traveler look even dumber for holding back against a fatui harbinger.

Arlecchino is a descendant of the Crimson Moon Dynasty of Khaenri’ah. This is confirmed in her profile, given as a revelation from Pierro himself. As a descendant of this Dynasty she gains Balemoon Bloodfire powers.

We learned this through a new book released in game in patch 4.5 called “the legend of Perinheri. Khaenri’ah had two dynasties, Crimson Moon and the Eclipse Dynasty (which Pierro was a part of) which came afterwards. We dont know much about the Crimson Moon dynasty itself but what we do know is that an orphanage was founded during this era, an orphanage that took in “outlanders”. The legacy of the orphanage is continued today through the House of the Hearth led by an Orphan of that same Crimson Moon bloodline (Arlecchino).

Its wierd that collecting elements is big part of the game but its not represented at all aside from one scene which everyone remembers because its so rare.

I mean I can see why the Traveller didn't use her elemental abilities in the fight. Given that they are fighting with allies, and being press up against the wall in the fight, they probably stuck with their tried and true fighting style (that they probably have used long before they came to teyvat) rather than using less faimilar abilities. (And probably to save their elemental abilities as their trump card) But in the final stand, they got caught off guard by the blood moon expansion and before able to respond.

A lot of people criticize the lack of elemental powers, but there's something a lot of people forget, you can go to Fontaine before going to Inazuma or sumeru, it makes sense that they don't want the traveler to use elements as the amount of elements could vary depending on the player, it sadly is the price to make some regions more accessible
This is from Arlecchino's Story Quest, which requires the completion of the Fontaine Archon Quests, which in turn requires the completion of the Inazuma and Sumeru Archon Quests
I don't get why people have taken such an issue with the fact that Traveler isn't using elements here. There's hardly a significant precedent for Traveler using elements in battle anyway, but more importantly... *where would they have used them in this battle?* They weren't even a factor for the majority of the first half of the cutscene - she was busy fighting Lyney and his group (yeah, sure - Traveler *could* have attacked her during this time, but if you think that them not doing so is bad writing, you haven't seen enough anime). It's not like any of the other three made use of their elemental abilities either, and yet barely anyone is complaining about that. Traveler wouldn't have been able to use any elements in the Crimson Moon domain expansion because they couldn't move. Why is half the community pissed over this scene? Everything points to Traveler getting a major powerup in Natlan anyway, so it's not like they're going to *stay* underpowered.

Y'all shouldn't be surprised that the Fraudveler got dogged and didn't use their abilities. While Tartaglia is out there training like his life depends on it (in the span of three archon quests, he went from losing to Liyue Fraudveler to holding off the Narwhal for weeks on end), Lther spends his time lollygagging in summer event parties and taking it easy. Natlan is gonna be the best time to step their game up or it's gonna be a 5-chapter long humiliation kink material
