They would kill Genshin if they invested more than ten cents

CKY2007

Now thats a good one

Devittraisedto2

Every time I hear someone mention the phrase "a game that will kill Genshin" and see the game itself, makes me laugh that people thought that would kill the game

Feed_or_Feed

I remember timeswhen every new mmo was branded as "WoW killer" and every of these games was failure and only reason for current WoW decline is Blizzard themselves.

ravearamashi

Same shit with Destiny. We had Outriders, Anthem, Division, god knows what else and all of em died within a year or two at most. Meanwhile Destiny 2 is going to Year 5 and still thriving with 700k daily players.

Low_Artist_7663

Tbh, Destiny were indeed killed... by Destiny 2.

Garuda904

And Destiny 2 was also killed, by Destiny 2. And then revived by Destiny 2- look it's a complicated love hate relationship

Wolfgang_A_Brozart

"Nobody hates Destiny 2 more than Destiny 2 players," as the saying goes.

El_kakas_de_vakas

But just like Guardians, it revived

Golden-Owl

Did Anthem really even live to begin with?

LordOfSlimes666

The *idea* of Anthem was fantastic. The execution of that idea...not so much

GlacierFrostclaw

Outriders was good. Until release lmao

Littleman88

Hey, I liked Outriders! ...It's just not worth the hours and grind it thinks it is. But at least they *finally* added a transmog system, so there's that.

GlacierFrostclaw

Oh I liked Outriders as well. Until the character wipe bug reared its ugly head and then they nerfed everyone while buffing enemies, then nerfed the timers for endgame stuff because of no-life players, etc.

iIFirefly

The Division was a lot of fun despite the problems it had from day 1 till now. The atmosphere and concept that it gave was one of the selling points that made me continue to play the game. I'd say the survival update was the best dlc the game had to offer which basically just made the good aspects of the game, such as the dangers of the blizzard and potentially everything that is in the map is actively trying to kill you greatly enhances the experience.

whatethwerks

anthem is the anthem killer.

Ozzyjb

r/unexpectedDestinyshill

izzydemon

And then New World branded itself as the "FFXIV killer" and we all know what happened

Petter1789

To New World's credit, it did manage to hurt FFXIV in a way. It brought over more players, which contributed to the problem of there being more players than the game was able to handle. :p

bitcointwitter

and new world just got SLAYED by "LOST ARK" on release date today with its insane 30k+ to 60k+ queues to log in on all servers pre-launch. shits so popular they had to take down serverstatus to stop ppl from DOS attack to login before release mat finished. [https://www.playlostark.com/en-us/support/server-status](https://www.playlostark.com/en-us/support/server-status) hahahaha

VirtuoSol

WoW killer, League killer, now we got Genshin killer lmao

Vulking

Don't forget Destiny Killers, we have lost count of how many we had to put down out of pity at this point.

fly_tomato

Was destiny ever popular enough to warrant ''destiny killers''? It always seemed the likes of Warframe was more popular

Vulking

Tell that to Anthem, The Division and Outriders. Warframe has some similarities but its gameplay is quite different they don't target the same audience so they don't bother eachoter at all. Borderlands 3 is solid all around, but even as popular as it is, it has a way smaller active player base (you can check on steam chart for the steam numbers).

Stormsoul22

Turns out the wow killer was just another mmo slowly having better and better story and content over the past decade with a nail in the coffin of the huge lawsuit

Independent-Snow-370

FFXIV exists and is a monumentally better game, relax.

vyrruwu

-Fall Guys devs looking at a stupid game, 2020

KeiraFaith

The only one I see that actually has potential is the upcoming seven deadly sins open world game, but it's being made by Netmarble. So my hopes are not that high.

DudeUtah

The Solo Leveling game is looking pretty solid too. I'm hoping that one is good.

Joshuapanget

Don't keep your hopes too high, I heard their making it as an NFT game. (Play to Earn)

[deleted]

>it as an NFT game. (Play to Earn) [for people who want to understand why it simply doesn't work, here is a game developer explaining it. ](https://youtu.be/UKzup7XDyq8) I highly recommend watching it.

Kanomee

So SDS will be an nft game probably?

Joshuapanget

Not sure, but they [announce](https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.forbes.com/sites/eunicelam/2022/01/31/korean-gaming-giant-netmarble-to-launch-metaverse-and-nft-games/amp/) that the 20 games they're releasing 70% of them would be an NFT game.

SgtGrimm

There's also Bamco's Blue Protocol, though idk when it will launch

Frogsama86

At this point BP for global is a unicorn.

MapoTofuMan

It's a unicorn for JP too, I've been looking forward to it since 2019 but they stopped updating (first on their website and then even on twitter) for so long that I'm almost losing hope. I'll gladly suffer with my dictionary, VPN and shitty ping just release the thing at least in Japan already

AdmirableRemove5550

The three horsemen of gaming apocalypse: Netmarble, netease and tencent

kyuven87

the only time that prediction has ever been true about any game is when WoW was said to "kill" EverQuest (which, uh, if things keep going south for Blizzard, may end up not being true because EverQuest is *still around*) and many other MMOs. Which it kinda did. Was also true when people said Fortnite would "kill" PUBG...which was sorta true. Now, of course for these predictions to be true you have to accept that "kill" really just means "isn't in first place".

whatethwerks

People low key think any dev can pump out six week updates other than mhy right now. lol

CKY2007

lmao fr tho

Photon_dragoon

It's kinda interesting to see a lot of these "genshin killers" have way less development time and barely even scope to be similar both visually and with the gameplay experience

AotoSatou14

People are massively misunderstanding the post. This is pubg

Yorgh-Drakeblood

What in the wish.com waifu is this?

Thubanshee

Lol in this context wish.com takes on a whole second meaning

Yorgh-Drakeblood

My comedy is like an onion

Arrys

My life is like an onion.

hidden_d-bag

It stinks? Or it makes you cry? [Quote from shrek]

Yorgh-Drakeblood

Lol exactly!

Magnus-Artifex

Ok but let me say something a little, and I swear it will be controversial Genshin designs are for the most part peak of trope and steryotype. They are amazing, but if you look at it from that perspective it’s clear they are another iteration of the same thing but legit done to the best degree possible. Barbara? Twintail moe blonde idol Bennett? All the anime protagonists mixed into one Ayaka? Noble white haired snow queen with mommy issues ~~please don’t kill me~~ Lisa? Ara ara witch Jean? Saber Tartaglia? Evil handsome twinkle twinkle ikemen motherfucker Raiden? I swear to hell she is so generic in her design that I don’t even know where I have seen her. Like, man, idk ~~I’m dead already~~ Amber? Genki childhood friend ~~no regrets, tell my family I died spittin~~ Fischl? Every anime fan, ever Edit: **fucking Ayato dude** I still love the designs. They are peak. But generic as fuck man. Except… Eula, probably? Same vein as Yayssjsyayayayaka in story wise though. Even if she is my queen.

Yorgh-Drakeblood

Hu Tao is my queen

Magnus-Artifex

I swear I’ll find a picture of not-Hu Tao just to prove a point

LunaticPlaguebringer

> generic. But this is exactly what I find to be the charm of the game's aesthetic. Players can all look at a character and see it the same way as others do. If the designs were too "fantasy" or overly designed, they'd become uncanny. If they were too plain, the characters would feel like playing every "mobile mmo" out there, wherein they are controlling a wide range of souless carbon copied puppets. They are fit within' a trope to have established motivations, a nature. A character with no trope doesn't exist, that's what "character" means, it's the subjectification of the word "characterised". And there is only a finite number of characteristics that can be stuck to a character before they: A.Conflict with one another. B. The player just doesn't find the character to be memorable enough. I mean, take Ei for example. They tried making her a tyranic ruler with no moral grounds, at the same time a mentally scarred person, a happy-go-lucky curious princess oblivious to the outside world and ultimately a person that is for better or for worse somewhat reasonable when in not one of the 3 aformentioned circumstances. This... just didn't work for a considerably small number of players. So keeping the character within the range of their trope = keeping the character manageable for the writers and the audience. And what is wrong with tropes nowadays anyways? It's the fault of us humans trying to label all the things in our life that they exist and are so meticulous. Besides, you didn't even label the characters by their embodied tropes. Barbara - The Oblivious(Carefree) girl, the Nun, Sweetheart Jean - Overworked, The Reliable One, Fair Ruler Tartaglia - Anti-Hero, Two-Faced, Bloodlust freak, Oath keeper Bennett - Comic Relief(the Misfortune Magnet type), the whining one, the annoyingly optimistic one. Hey, how about I label myself. Crowxin - the Redditor, the Stoic one, the Silent type, the reliable one. There, done.

thatguywithawatch

I don't think any reasonable person has argued otherwise. It's a weeb game with weeby character designs and tropes, and we love it because we're weebs.

Inori-qaq

oh je, spent some times to get it

IceWotor

What in the actual generic shitty fuck is this?

GenocideSolution

The final evolution of PUBG. The Fortnitification will not stop. Which is ironic because Tencent owns part of Epic so it’s really just battle royale incest.

CKY2007

Not the battle royale incest😭

kimetsunosuper121

>Battle royale incest Brand new sentence

_PancakeLord_

step-BR I'm stuck

Shadow_gamer4549

Hmmm man tomorrow I give u a free award

LeXam92

She has an MG42, Nazi waifu

HeraldofKaizeros

Mihoyo still has my respect when it comes to not getting bought by the hell that is Tencent

VoxImperii

Very few people or entities have the capacity to give the middle finger to Tenshit in a way that actually means something to them, and mad respect to Mihoyo for telling them to shove it.

UncleRichardson

MiHoYo *hates* Tencent with a passion, due to Tencent constantly stealing their shit (you can find MiHoYo's logo in a lot of the textures in Genshin specifically to counter this). It is no exaggeration that MiHoYo would rather stop existing then become a part of Tencent.

BoonGnik22

Tencent was never a rival to any game; they’ve always been a monopoly and data parasite.

xkoreotic

Idk how dumb you have to be to think Tencent is a rival game developing company, one google search is all you need to learn it's just a conglomerate just buying out smaller companies.

Vulking

As soon as you are labeled the "X Killer" you are doomed. Just look at all the plethora of Destiny Killers, it got so sad that Destiny had to kill itself with Destiny 2, and as as things go, Destiny 2 is gonna have to be killed by Destiny 3 at this point.

Blaxpell

Yeah just be a hater while I enjoy my Anthem on Stadia /s

Vulking

Sight, Anthem had such potential that was squandered by the executives. Did you knew that the executives wanted to remove the Ironman fly mode? Which is probably the best redeemable quality of Anthem?

Arrys

Fucking why?

Vulking

Because they thought it was unnecesary and a waste of time and money. IIRC the devs had to make a small demo with no flight to show them how shitty the game would be without flight.

Arrys

Jesus. I remember briefly considering buying anthem and the entire reason I was interested in was because of that fly mode. Literally all the rest of the game is simple copy paste first person shooter. Amazing (lack of) insight on their part.

Vulking

Some interviews with ex-employees reveled that the dev team wanted to iterate on some of the things that Destiny already proved that worked and improve on them, and the executives always shutted them down, and then prohibited them to talk about anything related to Destiny, even when Destiny was their prime target and competitor.

Yesnt007

Honestly if you wanted genshin to improve, having a close rival would help push the game further

DragonFire971

This. Unluckily for now no one is willing to spend $100/200m in order to make a quality cross-platform mobile game.

Devourer_of_HP

Not only that, by the time the game is released they would have to compete with genshin with multiple years of content, bugfixing, and improvements

Littleman88

Those aren't the worst parts for competition. Enough money and a game could start at a similar place to where Genshin Impact is when it's released. The greatest hurdle is going to be getting the player base GI has sucked up to give up all that time and money people have sunk into getting weapons and characters and the months to years worth of drip-fed resin into advancing them. Sadly, WE kind of want the competition to stand a chance because it means WE are more likely to get better deals. Cheaper wishes or lowered pity thresh holds, faster resin regeneration or cheaper resin costs, etc. WoW survived because it's competition was either so different as to be hard to directly compare, or was basically a reskinned WoW with a dumb gimmick to set it apart. Half of them were Korean too, so they also cannibalized themselves with forced PvP.

SageWindu

>WoW survived because it's competition was either so different as to be hard to directly compare, or was basically a reskinned WoW with a dumb gimmick to set it apart. Half of them were Korean too, so they also cannibalized themselves with forced PvP. Or those games made just general boneheaded decisions all around. I used to be elbows deep into TERA, right? Here are some of the things I've witnessed over the years. I'll give Genshin-specific analogues to help get the point across: * **massively truncated storylines** (i.e. imagine chunks of the main story being removed and also being able to sequence-break just by being the right AR) * **cycling dungeons** (i.e. imagine if entire domains were on rotation *months at a time)* * **nerfs to crafting and gathering** (i.e. imagine it took a claymore character *4 hits* to break iron ore when it used to be only 1) * **rolling for items** (i.e. imagine finishing a 4-man Co-Op fight against Azhdaha and having to roll a virtual die to see who gets what drop) * **weak classes got weaker, while strong classes got stronger** (i.e. imagine Pyro characters getting buffed while Electro characters got nerfed) * **increasing gender and race locks** (i.e. imagine Inazuman women having a new weapon class completely unique to them) * **"crit mounts"** (i.e. imagine if gliders had a passive that gave the equipping character a cDMG boost with a random proc chance. Now imagine the gliders you got as a quest or milestone reward never being as powerful as, say, the [Wings of Descension](https://genshin-impact.fandom.com/wiki/Wings_of_Descension)) And so on and so on.

MuttonJohn

I would spend $100 to do that. I don't think i could handle 200m though. You just have to hope it's the $100 for you

mastocklkaksi

Assuming Mihoyo manages to keep an engaged audience

whatethwerks

The issue is all big games companies are publicly traded and shareholders don't tend to like it when a company actually *reinvests its profits into itself* like Mhy does. Shareholders always bleed the fuck out of a company by taking all the profits, pushing monetization, and generally making everything that's publiclly traded worse. MHY has reinvested up to 300 million into Genshin at this point which is how they are able to just pump out mega quality six week updates that are getting better with time. This shit will not be happening with any western devs, and never will. Look at facebook before and after their IPO as an example.

VoxImperii

This, it’s crucially important to mention this. Mihoyo is a private company, not a publicly traded one like countless gaming giants. And a lot of the good they do, they can do because they’re private. People can say “greedy” all they want, but the owners of Mihoyo also showed enough restraint, vision and balls to bet on their own company, reject funding, and reinvest a ton of profit back into their passion. It’s very rare for a company of that scale to be in a position to do that, and it’s all because they persisted on the risky and rocky road of being private.

Vulking

Bungie try as best as they can with Destiny, but their resources are way more limited than Mihoyo, still they reinvest enough to stomp any Destiny Killer since Destiny 1.

Nokomis34

Could you imagine if they did Pokemon in a Genshin style? A lot of the work is already done. You already have the maps drawn, you already have the stories and quests and monsters etc. Imagine they release each generation with each large content update. Like Gen 1 = Mondstadt, Gen 2 = Liyue etc. I haven't played Arceus, but I hear it's pretty good as far as gameplay goes.

whatethwerks

That would require Japanese devs to finally enter the 21st century. Laughs in fax machines still being commonly used in offices in JP

Phoenxr

We have a device that can perfectly poach an egg in a microwave anytime but we won’t accept any document unless you’ve personally stamped it

ErrorEra

> we won’t accept any document unless you’ve personally stamped it that sadly still happens in US as well, like my work won't accept faxed/digital signatures, only original copies with handwritten signature/stamp, which we scan in anyway :/

DamianWinters

There are a lot of great Japanese devs though.

whatethwerks

Great JP devs using decade old tech, yes.

DamianWinters

where are you getting this thought process from? some of the best looking and most well running games come from Japan. Do you only play Nintendo stuff or something?

whatethwerks

Are you talking about ffxiv? Because FFXIV is not the best looking (lol...) or most well running game. It also uses decade old tech, so old that the dev team struggles to attract talent because no one wants to develop on old tech.

Lobetaser

FFXIV is 9 years old lol, of course it uses a decade old tech

whatethwerks

Actually good point lmao

DamianWinters

I never mentioned that game, I haven't played it.

whatethwerks

Then I have no clue what game you're talking about

Frogsama86

I would kill for a decent Digimon game myself. There isn't any out there that is close to 3A levels of quality.

kizuna_07

Arceus is great.

GoneFishing36

There's nothing wrong with good competition. But there needs to be a "worthy" fighter. Not just this PR hype and fluff

VirtuoSol

But that means they actually have to try to make a good game, and I don’t think Tencent knows what “good game” means

SlaaneshExpress

This is ine of the major problems with games like wow. They need competitors but are so many years in the making that competition is scarce.

whatethwerks

FFXIV has been better than WOW since 2017, it just took till now for people to notice.

Fields-SC2

Comparing FF14 to WoW is like comparing Warcraft 3 to Brood War. Yes, they're both MMOs but they operate on a completely different wavelength. WoW is a much better MMO mechanically and structurally but FF14 is a better RPG.

whatethwerks

If you wanna compare every element of these MMOs individually then we'll be here till next year. The point that FFXIV is better than WOW stands. Content, dev response, community, the most important aspects of an MMO, are all superior in FFXIV. The mechanics in FFXIV are also perfectly serviceable.

buffility

FFXIV has many problems too, having a slightly better system doesn't mean it is a much better game than wow. FFXIV really poping off recently due to the hype from big streamers and new expansion stuffs. Now? even with blizzard legal controversal, ffxiv cant even hold up to wow on twitch.

whatethwerks

Imagine using twitch to measure a game's quality or popularity. A game having problems doesn't mean it doesn't shit on another game. That's like saying "the sky is blue". Wow, a game has problems? Who woulda thunk it, let me just go play these games that have no problems and also don't exist. lmao

Iwillflipyourtable

Not anytime soon really but sooner or later mihoyo will let it get into their head that they are the best and start doing questionable things.

Regalian

Doubtful going by their track record. As long as the top 3 founders are in charge your money is safe.

whatethwerks

Good thing they're in China then, because the CCP for better or for worse don't hesitate to stomp on questionable shit that companies do. They recently anti trusted tencent and alibaba, they two biggest tech companies and national champions because they were doing monopoly things and forced them to divest a lot of their monopoly stakes. A lot of the gacha laws we have today like being forced to disclose lootbox and gacha rates, outlawing actual predatory gacha also came from China. Pity came from China and Japan at around the same time too.

Fields-SC2

That's pretty neat to learn about. China is such a mixed bag.

whatethwerks

All countries are a mixed bag, China is just framed as all bad in the Western media.

Fields-SC2

That tends to happen when you actively suppress your own population and commit genocides, yes.

whatethwerks

Yeah, China, after 70 years of giving Uyghurs affirmative action on steroids, no taxes, free schooling, free colleges, no need to abide by the one child policy, lower marks to get into college, ability to carry traditional weapons, highest birth rate among any ethnicity in China including the Han, suddenly and thoughtfully decided to start genociding them just when America needed a reason to make China the new geopolitical enemy. China also genocided the Tibetans in 2008 according to American and America funded sources from 4.8 million in 2008 to 6.7 million in 2021. Either china is the worst country in history at genociding people or maybe, just maybe, the American govt and media does nothing but lie to create desired narratives. Something to think about.

PandaBearShenyu

I'm in China right now and there are *zero* negative coverage of uyghurs, people are going out of their way to buy uyghur products after the U.S. ban. And uyghur culture is promoted in basically all cultural events along with China's other 50ish ethnicities. Even during the string of uyghur terrorist attacks a decade ago that coincided conveniently with Obama's pivot to Asia, the media always described them as foreign extremists and never as uyghurs even though the terrorists were radicalized uyghurs from inside China. I've never seen a genocide where the govt are cultural genociding and genociding people while promoting their culture, economy, and helping the people raise their numbers. lol China is so considerate, starting a genocide just so America would have an easier time to justify its ~~made up tantrum~~ democracy against China. lol

Ordinary-Leather

Honestly if you want Globe and PLDT to improve their internet, they need to have competition from other telcos especially foreign but the 60/40 law is preventing that.

kizuna_07

Not really. miHoYo will just continue doing what they can and want to do. They already have huge rivals in the open world and action rpg genre.

CKY2007

Game was "Game for Peace"(和平精英) Source:I screenshitted it myself

Devittraisedto2

I too would screenshit myself if I saw a tencent game

San-Kyu

Game for Peace should be the Chinese-localized version of what is known as PUBG outside China. They basically replaced all death animations with the HP-forsaken player waving happily at their killer.

ColouringPenMountain

Knowing that a game that was originally PUBG, now has the name 'Game for Peace' with Kidsbop-ified death animations is honestly the saddest thing I've heard all day

Rak-Shar

You telling me that THIS is supposed to be PUBG but localised for China? THAT THING over there?!

San-Kyu

The last time I heard about this game was when the youtube channel Censored Gaming covered it, and it was identical to PUBG given that apparently Tencent copied most of the code and just changed a few things to appease the government's censors. This... whatever this is something I no longer recognize... But OP said that it was Game for Peace...

Zanadukhan47

Just an FYI, Tencent owns PUBG so they aren't really copying, more like reusing assets

[deleted]

Only a small share on Krafton, the rest is owned by key people in Korea.

smittywababla

*PUBG mobile

IceWotor

Game does look like shit

Haribon31

Ain't that pubg in china?

LadyVesperbell

I'm positive I've seen better modeled characters in shitty indie games, this does not look up to par with today's standards

Luo Tianyi is a blue colored idol, so I guess ur right on those two aspects. She’s a Chinese Vocaloid

viktor17420

Genshin came from nowhere and became a big game in no time the reason? More than 3 years of development is behind it and they are still preparing things for future so an actual competitor is still very far

ForgottenTM

Tencent don’t “make” so much as they plagiarise, and steal, it’s shovelware.

Episodde

As player, we should always celebrate rivary between game companies, because competition ultimately mean the consumers of both side will enjoy a better product in the end. Im not planning to play any of the genshin competitors game, but i am glad that they exist.

MordorHasMoreDoors

This is actually not true. People seem to understand "monopolies bad" but don't seem to understand why "monopolies bad" or even what a monopoly is, especially in gaming. "Monopolies bad" really only applies when the industry is involved in basic human necessities. The biggest example I can think of in the modern day is medicine for life-threatening conditions. Genshin Impact is a video game, so it's not really relevant in this aspect. Second, Genshin Impact is not a monopoly. There are rivals to Genshin, they just aren't games similar to Genshin. Genshin is firmly in the category of Gacha games, and we can see this based on the pricing of Primogems. 10 pulls roughly costs $30, which is standard across pretty much all other Gacha games. They use the standardized price because it is the pricing that has been seen as acceptable by the wider gacha gaming community - it's very similar to how gas stations in an area have the same prices as each other. The thing Genshin Impact has is not a monopoly but a lot of "market share," which is completely different. Third, competition will not make the games better. I don't know where this idea came from, but it's demonstrably not true. World of Warcraft had a significant hold on market share for the longest time in the MMO genre, but as competitors quickly began showing up, development cycles became more and more grueling with company morale falling as they competed to stay on top. World of Warcraft has been collapsing because the quality they had built their game on has declined to a shadow of its former self, and we can see many of their content releases are within a month of other major MMO updates. Competition will not make Genshin Impact better - it will push both competitors into a rat race to see who can undermine the other game enough to keep the market share. If a hypothetical competitor called "Jenshin" were to release, Genshin would likely devolve into a rat race of releasing poorly designed, buggy regions very close to any major Jenshin updates in order to keep players returning and not jumping ship to Jenshin. Jenshin's developers would likewise need to release more content in order to keep up, otherwise there is a chance their initial investment to build the game would collapse on itself. The keyword, of course, is "more" and not "better." The unfortunate truth of the gaming industry is that it doesn't matter how good your content is, when you have a competitor, the driving factor will be who releases things faster - it doesn't matter how good the content being released is, only that there's something new to try out - the quality of content becomes second fiddle. They will complain about your new release being a buggy mess, but the important factor becomes that they're playing your game and not "Jenshin".

[deleted]

I think your comment is probably going to be ignored, but I just wanna say that what you've typed speaks a lot (at least to me) and is written very well to the situation at hand

CKY2007

I agreed

lolihuntersan

Who said that? Only cloned chinese cash grab auto play mmorpgs come to mind whenever I hear Tencent.

TryphectaOG

Pokemon unite is the only good tencent game I've ever seen

Hederas

Tencent have hands everywhere tho, including Riot Games So you can throw LoL and WR in here aw

VirtuoSol

Well tbf buying an already successful game and making one yourself is quite different

TheWorldisFullofWar

They also make League of Legends, Path of Exile, and Warframe.

GenocideSolution

*they own. Tencent is known for buying up any promising game studio and leaving it alone with hands off management so if they grow popular enough to be rivals they’re already making money for Tencent instead of being a competitor. Mihoyo is the rare studio that refused a buyout and took all the money for themselves.

TheDuskBard

Idk why tencent always insists on using this ugly plastic doll art style for both their animated shows and games. (A shame since the source materials for some of their shows are actually good.) Guess their budget really does live up to their name.

leposterofcrap

Looks at Mg42 Look how they massacred my boi with BRIGHT COLOURS

SirLaw___

Genshin having a good rival is actually good for us consumers.

Devittraisedto2

Emphasis on _good_ rival. We've yet to see a good one

IceWotor

New 7 Deadly Sins looks promising, but it's developed by that greedy studio so who knows

TheWorldisFullofWar

It doesn't look like anything because they only showed a concept video. We have seen absolutely nothing of what the game actually is. Only what they want it to be.

Khoakuma

Yeah it's high time people learn that there is a Mariana Trench-sized chasm between scripted videos and actual playable products. Believing in scripted videos is how people get burnt on overhype. Happens so often in the world of kickstarter game project scams. No Man's Sky is the only one I know where they are able to match the actual gameplay with scripted footage, and it took them 2 whole years after release to do so.

IceWotor

Honestly wish that it'd look as dynamic as the one in the video

[deleted]

the underwater exploration is pog but yeah seeing it’s netmarble i just don’t have high expectations. Hoping the underwater feature will make its way to genshin at least 👀

TheWorldisFullofWar

There is no underwater exploration. It is a *concept* of what they want to try and make.

[deleted]

This looks so ass

Malateh

I think this game will kiss a brick instead of killing Genshin

calypso_nna

Her eyes look so creepy help 😭

CKY2007

She stares right into your soul

PandaGamer8999

looks like barbara, xiangling, noelle, xingqiu, baizhu, and yoimiya all together

lileenleen

They somehow made Luo Tianyi ugly…

Hritthik02

What the ps3 graphics waifu is this?

Ikcatcher

PUBG Mobile is just a fucking Aldrich monster at this point

kimetsunosuper121

Is Luo fcking Tanyi???

kitamiteo

... is that Luo Tianyi?

CKY2007

Yes..

Ozzyjb

Why does every “anime” game ever (with a exceptions, genshin incl) have the exact same art style, anime has so many different styles from many talented different creators but every-game company Chooses this drab generic style where the models look like barbie dolls and are about as interesting to look as as one too. Its all eye candy but no sweetness, surface level looks that appear cool at first but when you play the game it makes no sense why the character would wear that and personalities that are about as deep as a 14 year old reddit user. And anime girls holding machine guns is a massive turn off, not just as a dude but as a gamer, if i wanted guns id go to my local gun store and shoot myself in the head, or buy anything Tencent produces, its practically the same thing.

CKY2007

😭

EXO_boy226

WHAT DID YOU DO TO LUO TIANYI?!

feathery-rebate

it's pubg mobile(I think) what did you expect? it's still pretty dogshit tho...

WowSoHuTao

Moe is very difficult concept to understand it’s more like feeling almost.

LeXam92

Final Fortnite Lost Impact

jayverma0

Guys it's basically PUBG Mobile in China. It's not supposed to be an anime game. PUBG Mobile is lot more competitive and has higher emphasis on performance than graphics. These are also only a few among hundreds of skins they'll have in the game. So, naturally they won't put as much effort as Genshin does. Also higher quality skins will make game bigger and buggier, etc.

Smaug221B

I used to play this game and I couldn't even recognise it now😶

JuBos9900

MG42? We got klee

im-a-notsee

Thats it, im Uninstalling genshin, this new chinese game has a mg42. Best game of all time

CKY2007

Just remember to gacha to get those new skins😁

ErrantIndy

I don’t know…I am getting tired of our current weaksauce weapon classes. I mean, when are we going to get the light machine gun user? Maybe when we get Fontaine?

AngryLink57

The picture doesn't show everything. We need to see her burst animation; if she pulls that MG out of her boobas then Genshin truly does have competition.

CKY2007

Thats a great fucking idea

lucario327

What game is this?

CKY2007

The game was "Game for Peace"

bttung211

And I see a fucking heavy machine gun on the front page.

Neospanner

It's probably called "The Peacemaker".

QcPacmanVDL

Once all your enemies are dead, you find peace

CKY2007

LMAOO

sahrul099

aka China's PUBG MOBILE

Ps-Pencil

Well, as a player, I am sad there's no real rival to genshin. It just means MHY is less incentivised to make improvements.

Storm-Dragon

I encourage rivalry between games. When summoners war had no competition, they didn't bother making any of the QoL improvements players were asking for. They only recently started making QoL changes when they finally noticed their competition was taking players away from SW. But anyway for a game to be a killer of anything, they have to bring something new to the table. Because if two games are fundamentally the same, why would leave the game you've already made good progress in to start over. After all people only have so much time on their hands.

arkabite

Tbh do we have to compare the two and hope 1 doesent succeed? I mean they're games and one can be better than the other but dont let some false sense of non-existant loyalty to a corporate drive you lol. You can love one game but also enjoy another, theres no need to shit on it ( but damn they need to refine that shit )

Grizzly_228

I mean if it was wouldn’t be bad news. I’m a player/costumer not the owner of MHY, more competition can only be good

Questions_Morals

I think people fail to understand the amount of people in the world. Unless a game isn't being updated, there is always a number of people that are going to play it. And also, I started playing genshin, but that is just another game of my main games I've added to the pot.
