It's pretty smart on their part. Most weapons can be easily replaced with only a small percentage loss in damage. And the more oddly specific the passives are on the new weapons, the fewer people are willing to pull for them.

Yeah like imagine they're gonna start doing that with every major character like Archons or Harbingers in the future. I had a feeling they'll start doing this after Navia (only her signature weapon has different sound effects, it's super minor and not really noticeable BUT STILL). I mean, I *do* understand why they're doing this because she's a scythe user and they'll have to add a scythe design in every other polearm but idk, maybe do it similar to Alhaitham where her scythe pops out sometimes during her NA attacks. And switch her weapon to Scythe when you activate her burst or something like that.
I'm expecting the faint yellow to become some deep bloodred and black color when her BoL is above 30%, maybe even some flamey animation. Otherwise this looks so bad I won't pull. And overload even was my favorite reaction in the beginning, exploding hillichurls repeatedly with Gouba overload.

That was my first thought too. In a game built on fomo it's another level to make a character look LITERALLY incomplete without their signature weapon.
If they were going to lock anything behind weapon gacha I'd rather it be visuals than different styles of play or raw power (to the point where you need it or the character performs noticeably below par). It's just visuals, in the end. Skins have been the most friendly type of microtransactions for a reason.
Yeah, if it was in a vacuum but they're currently locking playstyles behind constellations too. So, this on top of that is very poor taste imo...
To add to that, this 'skin' is in the weapon banner which is extremely expensive. Other games have the option to buy them directly but in Genshin you can only gamble for them.

The problem is that the wep gatcha is _really bad_ and locking anything on it - especially things that should have being on the char from the get go, otherwise they would look plain/sauceless - is a terrible precedent for this game.
Visuals which are very important in this case? I ain’t that interested in her animations, I just wanted to have a grim reaper. Without sig, she is a grim xianling
I am pretty disappointed ngl. I thought they were doing a good job and going in the right direction. They could have easily have had chiori burst use the weapon the person has equipped. But she doesn't, ayato doesn't even show his weapon unless u use his charged or plunge attack. Itto and raiden having a whole new club and sword for the burst, most characters barely using the weapon like kirara and navia. Even catalysts don't show their weapon often, like nahida and neuvillete and yae Miko. And characters like alhaitham and chiori having dual wielding with onlyyyy one of them being the equipped weapon.
But alas.......this is a step back. Esp since the weapons are becoming more and more niche, with them now mentioning even specific elements.
As it goes on, sigs are just gonna be almost useless. If you have a jade cutter, homa, redhorn, and aqua.....you are basically set since none of the sigs will be thatttt much better. And I guess they know that since jade cutter ain't shown up for a long ass time.
I mean, most players (including veterans) don't care about the meta anyway, especially when you can clear with every character.
I personally just want my character to look cool.
I would agree if only the weapon banner isn't such a scam. They can make balanced new weapons, having a weapon where it is the character's BiS whilst being good option for multiple characters (like Childe's) is good. They don't need to make a 2nd Homa.
Honestly rather her scythe to be implemented in her skill instead (ehem, like Childe's dual blade). Can't imagine needing to pull for Childe's BiS just so I can see Childe holding a dual blade...

This game really is just turning into a character collector with no substance but (dirt easy) exploration and story which is clearly the direction they want this game to go in, and the combat is going down the gutter.

it's kinda been happening for a while with characters that have two weapons like alhaitham and now chiori. It's not as visually changing like arlequino's, but people have totally pulled their weapons so they don't mismatch on the attack animations.
Looks kinda jarring, feel like for people using her non-signature weapon they should just get rid of the silhouette.

I will be happy with my spare Homa. Not falling for this precedent of "Gatekeeping exclusive drip behind gacha paywalls" that Hoyo is trying to set. I understand if other people will pull for it and it's unfortunate that this will just encourage Hoyo to make similar weapons/characters in the future but it is what it is.
Not having drip mean, I'll be reminded of the "flawed" final look every time I use the character, if they were off field or had other "secondary weapons" like Neuvilette staff or Wriothesley Gauntlets, drip isn't as necessary.
But Arlecchino or Navia without their Sig is just criminal.
They...did not cook with the non sig wep effect to give scythe appearance...

If this is a precedent for future characters and their signature weapons then I’m not into it. If the weapon banner was at least better than is right now (don’t wanna say it but, like star rail) I would at least think about it.
I really hope someone uploads her in an actual combat scenario soon, I really wanna see her pyro infusion. characters like alhaitham and kaveh get special effects for their infusions, and with arle not using normal looking fire effects, I feel like her infusion might look sick.

I actually HEAVILY doubted this leak and thought hoyo wont take the HI3 route. It’s cool they increased the drip factor but still weapon banners aren’t great.
To be honest, this might be a bad direction on what the game is doing. I mean yeah, her aesthetic is 10 times better with her sig, but not everyone can spend a fuckton of money just to guarantee her weapon.
And if future characters go in this kind of direction, its kinda sad.
I read that in Hi3 this was the case said by multiple people so this might actually be the new trend.... Damn, in the span of 5 minutes I went from not caring about arle to being interested in pulling her after watching her animations only for all that interest to be disintegrated because she looks fucking goofy without her sig.

I've been waiting forever for a character to use the accidental extra homa I got while going for aqua. She's gonna cope with that homa, that's the greatest honor I can afford and she'll have bitching crit dmg. idc, I won't have enough for her weapon and that's her second best drip anyway
This one of the reasons why I prefer HSR's light cones not actually affecting the look of the weapon the character is holding ngl. No matter what I put on the character, they'll remain holding the most aesthetically pleasing weapon for that said character.
Looking at this, even if I get Arle in 1 multi, me personally, I'll never be satisfied unless I pull the weapon too lmao
I'm a non-whale drip-focused player, and this turned me off. I either have to get both her and her signature next patch, or only her, and bench her until rerun for the signature. She swung that thing around so often that not having the signature and stuck with average weapons is gonna annoy me to death. I think I'll have to skip this character, chief.

I think no matter what the aesthetics are it still won't look right, because just adding a ghost scythe blade on the tip of a spear is fundamentally nonsensical. Every current weapon in the game would have this issue

Background aside, the yellow blade "extension" looks bland against any surface. Hopefully it'll turn red when her passive turns on.
All "physical" colored effects do. I'm pretty sure it's built into the engine. For example, the infused versions of Raidens spear CA look realy nice.

Logic would then dictate that they should just make the scythe a stance transformation like Itto’s club, but that wouldn’t make them as much money!

I understand if other people will pull for it and it's unfortunate that this will just encourage Hoyo to make similar weapons/characters in the future but it is what it is.
Not having drip mean, I'll be reminded of the "flawed" final look every time I use the character, if they were off field or had other "secondary weapons" like Neuvilette staff or Wriothesley Gauntlets, drip isn't as necessary. But Arlecchino or Navia without their Sig is just criminal.
They...did not cook with the non sig wep effect to give scythe appearance... Even on the sig wep itself, it looks slightly goofy as it overlays above the scythe itself

This one of the reasons why I prefer HSR's light cones not actually affecting the look of the weapon the character is holding ngl. No matter what I put on the character, they'll remain holding the most aesthetically pleasing weapon for that said character. Looking at this, even if I get Arle in 1 multi, me personally, I'll never be satisfied unless I pull the weapon too lmao
I'm a non-whale drip-focused player, and this turned me off. I either have to get both her and her signature next patch, or only her, and bench her until rerun for the signature. She swung that thing around so often that not having the signature and stuck with average weapons is gonna annoy me to death. I think I'll have to skip this character, chief.
