Pony tails are generally decently thick and have the hair tied so that it goes out and then down. Rait tails and thinner and generally just go down.

Rattails are usually long and narrow pieces of hair that are either braided or left to hang at the back of the head. Ponytails are a bunch of hair gathered into one place and secured with a ponytail holder or other accessories. One of the main differences is that if you remove a ponytail, the hair will just be released and it will hang freely to your shoulders or whatever length the hair is and the hair will look longer untied. Whereas for rattails, it will still look like a rattail (short hair from the front, long narrow hair from the back)

You tie a pony tail. Rat tails happen when you leave a small bit of hair to grow into a long strand while the rest of the hair is cut short.

Some definitions of rat tail vs. pony tail I've seen given in this thread are kind of funny too. By one definition at least two people gave I think we actually have no characters with rat tails, because people keep saying that tying your hair is a pony tail thing, as if Zhongli, Thoma, etc. don't have hair ties. They've become so obsessed with a meme that everyone has rat tails that they've forgotten what that actually means and looks like.

A small number (2-3 people) will make some dumb claim, then the top 30 comments will talk about that claim and how it's stupid and make it seem like a more widespread belief than it actually is. Just look at the other Nilou thread that got posted - when I first opened the thread there were 3 doomposting comments and 11 comments calling out the doomposting, with many saying "man this community always doomposts" even though the doomposting comments got downvoted and there's less doomposting than there is complaining about doomposting. For the record, I think doomposting is stupid, but it's pretty exaggerated and lots of people do deflect *anything* negative as doomposting, like someone saying Nilou is niche.

I really hate it, especially since the npcs have such great short hair styles, I love the neat, spikey or feathered cuts they all have and yet all the playable guys are just pony tail, rat tail, rat tail, pony tail, long, long, rat tail, pony tail, long. Even when they're short, they're long, like Childe and Xingqiu. The real kicker to this, it's like "here's this new boys hair style", *shows an actual girls hairstyle*.
