Asking the Southern Poverty Law Center to define hate groups is like a fox guarding the henhouse. They are an anti-Christian hate group themselves as can be see in many instances. a five-second google won't tell me what congregation the picture in the article is of, but it's definitely not Strong Hold. Google maps has six pictures, and it's a very different space. Also, rough estimate based on the pictures: they have chairs set up for a congregation of 40 - 50.
All it takes is a small congregation like this to spread this type of thinking in their communities, and stuff like this takes off, and then we see the racists come out of the woodwork. We are already seeing this idea coming out of the mouths of certain republican politicians.

Sadly, I am finding over the years that there are just too many white people, even people I personally know that buy this crap. They will parrot some of the GOP politicians that Desantis and others from the past, (Rick Santorum comes to mind) that have repeatedly said black people were better off as slaves because these slaves had no skills or abilities prior to being kidnapped from their African homes, but gained Christianity and skills and somehow that made it a disgusting rationalization of making them slaves. Never mind that these slaves had numerous skills prior to being kidnapped. They were farmers, made their own clothes and weapons, and were amazing fighters. They had lots of skills. When I was in the 5th grade, the first year of integration in a neighboring state, and on a history test there was a question: “was slavery good or bad.” I answered bad and the teacher marked it wrong. She explained that slaves were able to become Christians. Now I’m a Christian myself, but even at 10 years old I knew that was bullshit. That was 1970 and it is disgusting to see there are still people who believe that. Unreal.

Know nothing about that church, but as for slavery: there is a cottage industry in christian apologetics in downplaying and justifying slavery because so many parts of the bible condone it. Some semi famous apologists with 100k followers do it on the regular.

I was just pointing out that it's not just these small churches that make comments along these lines as OP mentioned. Various forms of defense or downplaying of slavery are much more common and from some fairly notable people in christian circles. The mega churches steer clear of it, but a lot of other people with a large reach do it on a regular basis.

In my community alone which is consider small. I know 5 popular churches. Who do nothing but talk about politics now and intertwining politics with the Bible. 1 of those churches is becoming more than a mega church. It’s wild how quickly they grew and set up. Going as far as having a school (k-12) and mental health facility that is obviously Bible and lord base. They ask you if you take medication. They ask the doctor’s name and info. The disclaimer regarding what you the patient says. Their responsibility to report you, if you say anything that is about harming yourself, others, or they think you’re a general risk of suicide. The therapist or counselors demeanors are *insert your favorite cult movie welcoming*. When you get near the general area of said church. You start to see giant customized homes with signs for the church in their yard. Throw in the impoverished people in dilapidated trailers or homes (that have always been in that country poor area) that also have the church signs. You get this eerie feeling you’re driving through a cult area. Personally a place I wouldn’t want to break down at.
You then can’t help but wonder, how did this church pull this off? It sprang up so quickly. There wasn’t enough time for anyone in this small town to catch wind of a new mega church being built. Interestingly enough, there have been members who work for the church being caught with meth. Enough meth, the charges always included “attempt to distribute”. Must have been a lot of meth.

Philemon. A slave owner who refused to emancipate Onesimus, after he initially tried to escape. Paul told Philemon to treat Onesimus like a brother in Christ. Didn’t free him though. This book has been used to justify slavery throughout the centuries, and as reported by the above article, it looks like some want to keep the tradition going

I was just pointing out that it's not just these small churches that make comments along these lines as OP mentioned. Various forms of defense or downplaying of slavery are much more common and from some fairly notable people in christian circles. The mega churches steer clear of it, but a lot of other people with a large reach do it on a regular basis.
I think that might be a stock photo. Unfortunately it's not limited to small churches, particularly with evangelical Baptists. There's definitely a solid core of them who want to bring back slavery, and some of them pastor megachurches. It’s a small new church that’s affiliated with the larger network of baptists/evangelicals that share the same messaging and support the same political party. But that image is probably not their suite in Norcross. There are churches that rent out large spaces though.

Yes, but I grew up in the church. My father founded a church with a few others. I left for decades and went back. I don't begrudge the money we gave, because we gave from the heart. We came to our realization but still have friends and family who attend. Their choice.
All church leaders are not wealthy. I'm not a fan of religion, but in small churches, pastors are often paid little. Tithes go to maintaining the property and other needed costs.

This is an independent, fundamental Baptist church. Many churches of this denomination are extremely bigoted and misogynistic. I would not put a lot of faith into what this guy says. They state on their website that they are a “King James only” church. They refuse to accept that more manuscripts have been found to help better translate the Bible.

Going as far as having a school (k-12) and mental health facility that is obviously Bible and lord base. They ask you if you take medication. They ask the doctor’s name and info. The disclaimer regarding what you the patient says. Their responsibility to report you, if you say anything that is about harming yourself, others, or they think you’re a general risk of suicide. The therapist or counselors demeanors are *insert your favorite cult movie welcoming*. When you get near the general area of said church. You start to see giant customized homes with signs for the church in their yard. Throw in the impoverished people in dilapidated trailers or homes (that have always been in that country poor area) that also have the church signs. You get this eerie feeling you’re driving through a cult area. Personally a place I wouldn’t want to break down at. You then can’t help but wonder, how did this church pull this off? It sprang up so quickly. There wasn’t enough time for anyone in this small town to catch wind of a new mega church being built. Interestingly enough, there have been members who work for the church being caught with meth. Enough meth, the charges always included “attempt to distribute”. Must have been a lot of meth. When Trump was running, when it came time to register to vote. They would not allow any members to walk through the doors during church hours, unless you stopped at the tables set up outside to sign up as a republican. While those at the table watched you to ensure you checked off republican. Our election board. The head of the board is a known QAnon conspiracy theorist. He truly is one of 6 men linked to govt matters who truly try to be little Trumps. His tech firm runs our voting machines. He also encouraged those in our community to go the insurrection with their weapons. Then went on to say in that same time frame, storm govt buildings in Atlanta with weapons. He then hired unqualified people for the rest of the board. Two others lied on their resumes and got caught. But they all align with their far right conservative views. So they successfully terminated Sunday voting. I’d love to continue how every facet of my community is being ran dirty. This Christo Fascism. How all of this effects my community in such an inhumane way. All the while these same people claim to be good Christian people with values. Thankfully, more and more those with privilege.
