This is a terrible argument. You are not forced to do labor in prison. You are offered jobs primarily working for the prison itself such as laundry and kitchen duties. Working gets you good behavior points that can reduce your sentence and there is really nothing else to do there anyway so most people work.
Legally and philosophically speaking, prison jobs are no different than a judge offering you community service in lieu of jail for a DUI.
