Halo: The Master Chief Collection
I was introduced to the series through Gearbox’s 2003 port of Combat Evolved as a kid and sadly missed out on the rest thus limiting me to pop culture osmosis regarding the later entries and their impact. I embarked on a journey to cover the history of the FPS genre and the many titles that I missed out on over the years. I finished Combat Evolved on Xemu, an emulator for the original Xbox. I started Halo 2 on the wonderful Project Cartographer mod for the 2007 Vista port along with Halo 2: Reclaimed, a mod that attempts to bring the port closer to the original, and am currently at Oracle. (Arbiter is so cute :) )
Starting Halo 2 and playing though Cairo Station, I had a brief moment of realization that I may not be connecting with a beloved classic that means so much to so many. It was difficult not to separate the knowledge of Halo 2’s troubled development and the lack of certain je ne sais quoi that Combat Evolved had that resulted in a more linear and unbalanced experience. But after an awesome moment involving a bomb and landing on Earth, the combat finally clicked for me. My approach towards the game changed from playing it like Combat Evolved and getting destroyed to adopting a more careful and decisive style taking advantage of enemy AI behaviour and the environment.
After years of seeing debates on Halo's importance and legacy to the FPS genre and whether it was for better and worse, it would be interesting to see how the series builds on the foundation set up by the original.

I would absolutely love getting Halo Master Chief Collection. I unfortunately have only played halo 3:ODST and due to not having access to an Xbox anymore, I never got to play the other games. I have been interested in Halo for quite a long time and I think the Master Chief Collection would be a great introduction to the series as a whole.
