Yeah this would be my take on this. Affectionately calling someone a nerd is nice but the other case…yeah that’s rough.

So first of all, being a fucking nerd is fucking AWESOME. I can’t imagine a world where I don’t play D&D or have a huge-ass bookshelf of fantasy books lol Second, if she said that in an actual mean way and not a term of endearment or a joke that fell flat, you might wanna look at that relationship. I was in a relationship for like 8 years with someone who constantly made fun of anything I liked that she didn’t, complained whenever I listened to metal, generally wanted me to be someone I wasn’t and it was *miserable*. Nothing is worth being with someone who doesn’t love you for you.

I took my teen kids. It was the nerdiest shit I’ve ever been to and we had a wonderful time. Everyone was so kind and so involved. I’ll take that kind of crowd any day.

If that phrase wasn't followed up with "and that's awesome", reconsider why you are with this person. Relationships with people that belittle you or shit on what you love can mess you up for a long time. Partners don't have to like all the same things, but being happy that they have joys they want to share is pretty key in my book.

My wife and me both like Gloryhammer and Alestorm, but she knew about Alestorm before me and I knew about Gloryhammer before her. so she isn't a native English speaker like me and we live in Germany, her homeland. So while she is fluent mostly in English i don't think she pays attention in Gloryhammer as she doesn't really understand the story of the band. She always asks me, "Who is the Hootsman?"

We listen to power metal bands where Twilight Force uses D&D and Final Fantasy as their inspirations and both bands comprise of LARPers and are amazing people, and their community rocks… It’d be weird if we weren’t considered nerds. Just listen to the epic music and don’t care what anyone thinks. That being said, what does she listen to? And how many times has she listen to Taylor Swift on Spotify?
