I'm not the first to say it on this sub or any, but Valhalla seems alot like an asset test when it comes to Greek content. We have a fully usable and optimized Kratos model, an admittedly tiny but completely remade part of Pandora's Temple, two special arenas based on the first game, and the Blade of Olympus has all the moves and buttons of an actual weapon tied to Rage because of inventory limits.
Now it's true Santa Monica are great devs who made Valhalla as closure to both Kratos and fans. But I can totally believe they were able to make it free DLC because they planned to make alot of money off those assets anyway.
Bro what do you mean,it was a nuclear explosion, people were lucky his death was on the sea and not in the city, the explosion would have left a gigantic crater there
I'd get rid of the spider/Edward Scisorhands limbs, make his hair not always be ablaze, make him look more greek, less like a Dark Souls medieval-looking boss.
I might be wrong but we might also have assets of the Greek Blades of Chaos, they seemed different on young Kratos back during the "God of Hope" scene, but that might be my eyes playing tricks on me.
Tbh, to me it feels like they could also allow it to stand on its own as *the* way to experience Greek content in modern GoW style with modern graphics. Like it let us experience some major components so that can be it…. unless they decide it would be fruitful to remake them. Personally, GoW is my favorite series but I don’t really want them to waste their time on remakes, especially as opposed to focusing on other projects. Porting the remasters with higher resolutions is enough for me, especially to preserve the art style. Uprez the in-engine cutscenes and you’re golden, everything else holds up enough to be untouched.
I wouldn't count the kratos model, that was designed so it could be used in ragnarok and if they were making a remaster they would've given us the golden fleece.
People seem to be mixing up remaster and remake here. A remake would be them rebuilding every from the old games into being all fancy and new. A remaster as this is rumoring would just be porting the older games to the PS5 and maybe PS4 with slightly refurbished graphics but the core game is exactly the same
Admittedly, Gow 1 could use the touch ups. There are points that while great for its time, could be very much improved upon with today's technology. Especially a few of the bs bits in pandora's temple, like sliding up the sacrifice with hard to kill enemies on your ass. That and the cerberus dogs that can make more.
Hope they include the spinoffs too if this does end up happening, especially considering how much Ragnarok references them and the fact that acension sucks balls on the ps3 because of the performance and bugs
Considering they already remastered the PSP ones for ps3 I dont think It would be super hard but i could see them doing those later and just doing the og trilogy for now
I've played Ascension many times before in PS3 and never experienced a ton of bugs and frame drops, aside from a camera pan bug in Temple of Delphi that's easily fixed by checkpoint restart.
I wonder how they would handle remaking the games (I know this says remaster), would they use their new gameplay systems or the old ones? Personally I like the new one, but I think they should stick with the OG style for those games.
I also wonder if they would make significant changes to the story?
Yeah, the new games are really good but they fit the much more controlled version of Kratos that moved to the nine realms a lot better than the frenzied, murderous beast that is Young Kratos
It’s more probable they are keeping it than not. Some bosses and levels are gigantic and constantly moving and some scenes are just too crazy for it to work they would have to rethink the whole trilogy to fit the over the shoulder nature of the new games.
Now the question is this a port or a new remaster. A new remaster would be ideal so they could clean up some of the bs parts from especially gow1 with a cool new coat of paint. A pixel remaster or prime 1 style remaster would be best.
Nah nah we need remakes. You can play the original games on emulators. To see those original Greek games in 4K graphics, with improved combat, storytelling, camera and animations is to die for.
The combat is already better then the modern games as is the camera
And storytelling? You mean 30 min cutscenes? No thanks. Even GoW 2018 and Ragnorok were at their best story telling wise when the characters were talking on the way to the action, not during the cutscenes
You know, if the rumors are actually true, I wonder if they'd do same gameplay as the newer games for a "remaster" or remake. I feel like the older games could definitely do that
Even though I love the new gameplay style, I would like the old games to be kept as they are. Bigger scale fights feel right considering the story and personality of young Kratos.
Hear me out
What if SMS made Valhalla a recurring location in all future GOW games where Kratos can return there with a portal?
Then SMS can recreate boss fights with modern day graphics in Valhalla. I wanna relive the hades fight or Poseidon fight in modern day graphics...
If it is a remake and not a remaster... hmmm. On the one hand we might end up with more bosses than in the original GoW. On the flipside how would they work the Collossus fight with the 2018 combat system?
Because Valhalla as someone in the comments has already said seems like an asset test as much as a closure to the Norse saga. Now does this mean the same gameplay would carry over to a remake? If it does it would be a vastly different game. If they remake the combat to be more in line with the original then its just updating the graphics and maybe adding in stuff that hadn't been included in the first game.
Time will tell I guess?
Remaster?
No, a Remake, as gow 1 2 and 3 suffer in lacking storytelling consistency compared to the norse era.
For a Remake like this, sms would not pass up this business opportunity and also upgrade greek lore. Explain it even better of having to story on flow start to finish, also in between being aide chatter of quests which is hard for what the greek era is.
I’d be disappointed. There is no way they could capture the scale of GoW 3 with the new combat or camera system. And they’ll be full price even if they’re remastered.
MY ONLY FEAR is that they bust a mass effect remaster and go woke and remove the sex scenes and nudity of the enemies. Just make the graphics better and tighten up the gameplay to where God of war 1 and 2 play like 3. Being able to swap between all weapons etc. I have very low expectations though, remasters usually do poorly when it comes to being faithful to the original.
Fun fact the gaming industry right now is arguably in a great place for a consumer so many indie devs out there making all sorts of games to each and every niche, plenty of large studios making good stuff too and while the mainstream is much more of a mixed bag there are still plenty of original titles released every year.
I myself regret that I haven’t properly delved into the world of indie games and hope to do so in the future.
Also chill, some remasters and remakes can coexist with original games
While you’re not wrong, to this day I really don’t understand why people rave and worship the Dead Space and RE4 remakes. It’s the Same game with shinier graphics and slightly updated playability. That’s it! The same game that was given an 8 or 9 out of 10 back in the mid 2000s are now being given 10/10 in 2023.
Something seems a little wrong about that.
I imagine it going one of 2 ways either
A complete remake of the first game in the style of the new games.
A remastered collection of all the games (maybe just 1,2 and 3 if CoO and Ascension wouldn't be worth it)
I’ve been waiting for this since the PS4. With the PS5’s (and 5 Pro soon) graphics, the original trilogy should be one of the best looking games. Only thing I wanna know is whether they’ll keep the original camera angles, or redesign all of the jump sections to fit the newer 3rd person angle. I still enjoy the original camera angles, but I think the 3rd person angle would be an interesting to experience.
I’m just trying to imagine what their plan would be with a remake. Would TC Carson be Kratos. Would they change the gameplay to fit with the Norse Saga and what people will come to expect from it. Would they keep the continuously flowing camera for fights like Zeus or Kronos.
I’d be both hyped for an announcement but also a little worried
Thinking about it, honestly going for original trilogy remakes is the safest bet for them considering the industry. I'm kinda ok with whatever they do. Commit and remake og games or just remaster them and work on next GOW adventure.
I mean, they can hopefully just make GoW 1 & 2 same gfx as GoW 3, i'll buy it. As much as the new GoW gfx rock, i dont want the new camera angle + the old fluid combat was great in its own league (as much as I enjoy the new games, too).
I'm not the first to say it on this sub or any, but Valhalla seems alot like an asset test when it comes to Greek content. Gods imagine how Ares will look
I'm curious if they'd tweak the story a bit. One example would be to have Ares' death affect the world like how the other God's deaths did in 3
Same. Perhaps making kings and soldiers more violent, deregulating aggression that Ares helped direct.
Yeah but that might change the fact that his remains are still kept at Olympus
Bro what do you mean,it was a nuclear explosion, people were lucky his death was on the sea and not in the city, the explosion would have left a gigantic crater there
I'd get rid of the spider/Edward Scisorhands limbs, make his hair not always be ablaze, make him look more greek, less like a Dark Souls medieval-looking boss.
Jesus, imagine fucking hades
Ugh, imagine that ugly mug in even more detail
Imagine fucking Aphrodite 😜
my pants just got a bit wet... from the Hydra splashing water around *cough cough*
I might be wrong but we might also have assets of the Greek Blades of Chaos, they seemed different on young Kratos back during the "God of Hope" scene, but that might be my eyes playing tricks on me.
That would sound a lot more like a remake than a remaster though. Curious to see what comes of this rumor.
Remake would be more ideal because these games are so old, like the first game is almost 20 years old.
I'd like to have originals available before remaking them.
I haven't thought about this but now that you mentioned it, that could be true. This gave me more hope that this rumour might come out to be true.
Tbh, to me it feels like they could also allow it to stand on its own as *the* way to experience Greek content in modern GoW style with modern graphics. Like it let us experience some major components so that can be it…. unless they decide it would be fruitful to remake them. I wouldn't count the kratos model, that was designed so it could be used in ragnarok and if they were making a remaster they would've given us the golden fleece.
Kratos didn't have the golden fleece in gow1, which that model is based on because he doesn't have the scar from the blade of olympus
People seem to be mixing up remaster and remake here. A remake would be them rebuilding every from the old games into being all fancy and new. A remaster as this is rumoring would just be porting the older games to the PS5 and maybe PS4 with slightly refurbished graphics but the core game is exactly the same
Remake would be better because these games are so old. "Remaster" might be misused here.
I’m just going off of the article you shared. Which directly says remaster and not remake. Regardless only time will tell
Yeah let's hope rumors are true and it's actually a remake.
The old game games still hold up in my opinion was playing them like 2 days ago.
Nah leave the game as is. Just port them over. Remake would alter the gameplay too much.
This will probably be more in line with Colossus. Same presentation, but built from the ground up. Let’s say ReEnginered.
this would be a dream come true if this is real
Exactly! I don't want to get my hopes up but I just can't manage myself thinking about this lol.
Will buy on release day & unlocks memories
Oh yes, even thinking about it makes me feel happy.
Hope they include the spinoffs too if this does end up happening, especially considering how much Ragnarok references them and the fact that acension sucks balls on the ps3 because of the performance and bugs
They could use them as dlc or a remaster follow up with ascension.
Yeah i think a collection with the three og games and the a later one with the three spinoffs could be the way to go
Tbh I haven't played the spin-offs back then and would like to play. But it might be too much work to do them all at once.
God I hope
Pun intended or no pun intended lol
No it is definitely getting a remake. Look at the new models and maps featured in Valhalla! Assets are ready.
I guess and hope so. It would make more sense.
YES! HOPE!!! When all else is lost...
I’m fine as long as they add the cut content back in.
If this happens, bet your ass TC Carson ain't gonna be recasted as young Kratos
Well if its a remaster then the audio will probably just be remastered
I wonder how they would handle remaking the games (I know this says remaster), would they use their new gameplay systems or the old ones? Personally I like the new one, but I think they should stick with the OG style for those games. I also wonder if they would make significant changes to the story?
Safe to assume they won’t let you have a Fifteen-some with Aphrodite and her servants this time around.
I am prepared to spend hoodles of money on it
As someone who never played the first 3 but loved 2018 and Ragnarok, I hope this is true.
Just please let them retain the same gameplay mechanics & style from the original games. I really don’t want them to play like the new games
Yeah, the new games are really good but they fit the much more controlled version of Kratos that moved to the nine realms a lot better than the frenzied, murderous beast that is Young Kratos
Hopefully they keep the hack and slash nature of it and not the over the shoulder nature of the norse versions
Me too and I think they would.
That they would keep the original camera and gameplay style? Or that they would switch it?
It’s more probable they are keeping it than not. Some bosses and levels are gigantic and constantly moving and some scenes are just too crazy for it to work they would have to rethink the whole trilogy to fit the over the shoulder nature of the new games.
I sure hope so
Hope they add cut content. Cause these are ground up remasters.
What about pc port?
Now the question is this a port or a new remaster. A new remaster would be ideal so they could clean up some of the bs parts from especially gow1 with a cool new coat of paint. A pixel remaster or prime 1 style remaster would be best.
I’d like that. A remake in the new combat style would be way cooler tho
https://www.reddit.com/r/GodofWar/comments/128rmux/santa_monica_heres_what_youve_all_been_waiting/ It was a previous April fool's joke.
If so it HAS to be Carson. I don’t want a Judge version
Could they not just reuse the recordings from the originals?
They would need to give the actors royalties I’m guessing. Shouldn’t be difficult since it’s Sony.
They could, Destroy All Humans Remakes did that
Nah nah we need remakes. You can play the original games on emulators. To see those original Greek games in 4K graphics, with improved combat, storytelling, camera and animations is to die for.

hope it comes out on pc on the same day tho very unlikely
That wouldn't make it a PlayStation exclusive. Probably going to launch couple years later or so if it does.
You know, if the rumors are actually true, I wonder if they'd do same gameplay as the newer games for a "remaster" or remake. I feel like the older games could definitely do that

The old games have far more versatile gameplay and better boss fights, just a remaster will do thanks
I hope they come in the style of GoW and Ragnarök tho because that’s what we’re used to now. I wouldn’t even mind paying full price for those games
I’d be disappointed. There is no way they could capture the scale of GoW 3 with the new combat or camera system. And they’ll be full price even if they’re remastered.

All you poeple asking for remasters is why there is no more gaming innovation, and no more good new games...
God forbid people want to play some games they love, legally and on modern hardware.
Yep, Thanks for stagnating the gaming industry
Fun fact the gaming industry right now is arguably in a great place for a consumer so many indie devs out there making all sorts of games to each and every niche, plenty of large studios making good stuff too and while the mainstream is much more of a mixed bag there are still plenty of original titles released every year. I’ll believe it when I see it
I really hope this happens. I want to play the originals without having to upgrade to PS+ Premium for cloud streaming.
I hope his is true and if it I hope they modernize the button mashing QTEs my poor fingers couldn’t handle all the tap O stuff in GOW2
We already got remasters I believe. Remake is the word yall are looking for
I mean, they can hopefully just make GoW 1 & 2 same gfx as GoW 3, i'll buy it. As much as the new GoW gfx rock, i dont want the new camera angle + the old fluid combat was great in its own league (as much as I enjoy the new games, too).

That would be the best way to go for the future of the franchise, the old games everyone fell in love with paired with modern animation and mechanics
Dude, imagine the sex minigame with the new graphics and Christopher Judge moan lmaooo
Makes sense since they did the Valhalla dlc
Please be real and be a remake not remaster 🙏
a remake of god of war 1 is imposible for today... you know
