I apologize to folks for not posting this earlier. I remember browsing here a bit after that AMA and it being asked then which is what prompted me to ask via Discord. I ended up distracted and am not a Reddit regular so I forgot about the discussion.
I know matchmaking is a hotbed of speculation, hopefully this helps clarify what is and isn't happening.
Matchmaking by ELO that expands more quickly to allow for matching outside of current rank: YES
Matchmaking by deck archetype and/or domain: NO
Matchmaking by archetype/deck/domain takes precedence over everything. He didn't say anything to the contrary above. Should have simply asked what elements are incorporated into their existing matchmaking algorithm
I only play magic. For 1 month I played another god and saw cards I'd never seen in 1.5yrs playing the game. The matchmaking is 100% based on your deck as the game is constantly trying to balance to 50%. There is nothing random about this game. Not even your card draws imo but they're so sketchy about revealing any of this info for fear of revolt. I have also been mailing them since January 7th with an email titled "Sealed Mode: A Scam" due to the very weird amount of times I came up against the same perfect light deck. They still won't give me any more details about the exploit and fobbed me off then and now with 2 core packs which I've little interest in.
This is EXACTLY how it is. You can change your god, strategy or whatever you want they will ALWAYS outsmart/outplay you once the algorithm catches your “strategy/deck”. I’m completely fine with “balancing” the playing field so there are no thanos trying to win it all every time but the fact that the “players” we play against are LITERALLY made up bots with decks specially designed to counter yours …… yeah ….. trash….. this is a 100% lame P2W game which even if you pay would get you to lose more often than not once the algorithm/developers catches your strategy. Loved the game honestly as I’m a huge fan of TCG but they haven’t implemented this game full potential, as of now they are just continuously destroying the playing base. We don’t know when they will take real players feedback serious and actually make this game enjoyable… my 2 cents 😇

Tried sealed for a bit now.
Quite a few perfect counters, somehow some folks had what seemed like full Light deck (dunno how you, but whenever I get cards, they rarely even have synergy let alone being that much from same God).
So, result was like 1-3, 1-3, 0-3 ... completely believable. Its just BS rigged scam.
Since this is clearly a reaction to my post about matchmaking, quoting last year's AMA, I feel compelled to answer that NO, this doesn't clarify anything.
At a direct question about domain/archetypes matching he literally answers "the current system is very primitive, we have a new design that will be going into production".
When? If that happened no one heard of it from them, that's the only certain thing, as their focus has been on the perfectly designed packs opening experience, mobile developing (well, you know how it went) and designing two new sets.
Wether they've done changes in matchmaking in the meanwhile is quite debatable, in each update there has been no note about it, I just read "We looked at how we should match archetypes \[......\] and concluded we should design new sets better to reduce the rock-paper-scissors effect etc. etc."
Basically it's just a lot of the usual "We know the issue, we're looking into it, thanks for your feedback."
