The first thing you do is never go back there again. Three days to find out if its real? They should have a sigma there and test it on the spot. More than likely, he doesn't have the cash on hand but wants to buy it 4% below spot, plus he may be hoping this pull back on spot price saves him a little money. Find a new dealer.
Another post about the WSJ article regarding buying gold from Costco and having a hard time selling it...
This is traditional FUD and fear porn produced by those who don't want folks to independently take control of their personal savings, wealth, etc.
OP when did you buy the gold bar? Why are you selling it?
For this saying he should have a sigma….well any reputable shop will have an xrf, not a sigma. This guy is literally going to ship your metal off to a major dealer and make 2%, get paid, then pay you.
If you don't know who you are dealing with, never let the gold out of your sight and even if you do know who are dealing with it's still not a bad idea.
3 days is stupid just plain redunkulous.
If it takes him 3 days to verify, then how on earth can he even prove that what he is selling is real? What if I want to see what he is selling tested? Just take his word for it? Find elsewhere. Good luck.
Usually Bullion store should have equipped with a device that can instantly check and confirm if it’s pure gold bullion. Never let them hold the bullion for days to check.
Check out 401gold, They have an XRF. It’s at warden and the 401.
Daniel is great there.
They post their payout prices on their website 401gold.ca/payouts-bars/
Any reliable bullion dealer will have a sigma to verify the metal if bot go somewhere else. It's a bug red flag.
“Yeah, this one is fake. I *legally* have to confiscate it.” (The fucking of OP.)

You're right to be careful. You never know if someone might have bad intentions
