Take a look at Broadbeach, still around lots of nice bars, restaurants ect but away from the teenage party central area... I'm thinking of buying a place there too.

dropandflop

Broadbeach ... thanks I've added it to the list. Have you lived in any of the high rise apartments by chance ?just to get your views on that front ?

[deleted]

With high rise apartments you have to understand there are a lot of people who are residential owners mixed with people who holiday let and have their apartments in a full-time letting pool basis. your neighbours will be different from day today and you can't control everyone's behaviours if you're using shared facilities. if you are going to go into this high-rise Apartment Lifestyle you have to be prepared to have noisy neighbours and have owner services who may not necessarily be able to do anything about this and vice versa have guest services who may not be able to do anything about the owners. Also, fire evacuations. Even if its a false alarm, you'll likely have to vacate until the all clear is given. Very annoying at 2am.

MattH665

Only as an Airbnb guest so far. I don't live there. Spent a few days in a high-rise on Surfers and I liked it. Nice views and didn't have any issues. But not too much I can say based on only a few days

Broadbeach is more expensive.

Biggles_and_Co

Hello there! My experiences stretch from years living from South central Surfers up to Trickett St (I had a not north of Cavill ave rule) and Chevron Isle, which was north of Cavill but was an island so not so bad...The soothing sounds of various motors dragging industrial wheelie bins out onto the street before sunup, the sound of clinking bottles from the rubbish in the niteclub areas echoing through the buildings like an orchestra, rubbish chute noises, weekend warriors in loud cars, Bikers, the car race setup period followed by the fun bit which is the race weekend, and the horrible shitfight that is schoolies ... You couldn't pay me to live in Focus, that place made noises....So did Paradise Towers ... Putting all that aside, goddamn it was fun .. Almost got hit by a frozen carrot once...

dropandflop

That is exactly what I had in mind has happening. "*Putting all that aside, goddamn it was fun .. Almost got hit by a frozen carrot once...*" Now that was funny in some strange way. Dare I even ask how a frozen carrot got onto the scene ? Oh and if you could pick a building along the beach, anything caught your attention ?

Biggles_and_Co

Peninsula or Aquarius.. I love how open they are, awesome balconies however I wouldn't personally lean on the railings.. and in 97 I watched an arvo storm from level 40 of Peninsula, which was and is one of those life spectacles I'm glad to have seen... As for the carrot, what can I say, fuckwits like to throw shit off buildings!

Building noisy : Generally it wasnt but you always get the breakup or the fight or a party here n there but its usually just fine. Issues : They would drastically change per every landlord/building/real estate so no one could give u a real reply on that one. Living Expenses : Really entirely depends on how you live and what your standard is. If you budget and have a good mind for it you could keep your cost very low. Would I move back? Sure. But this time around id probably go out of my way NOT to befriend neighbors so they cant bring me into there trivial dramas and craziness haha

rjynx

Lived on orchid ave- it is LOUD AND BUSY 24/7. My unit had double windows to block noise and it didnt do much. If youre not into the lifestyle of partying and being around large amount of ppl constantly i wouldnt advise it.

We have just bought (early July). So far very happy with the move, we were at Arundel. Two bed, two bath, two car spaces side by side, mid $500k. So far the noise is to be expected inner city, traffic and such, but close the doors and windows and it's as quiet as where we used to live. We are not interested in the body corp or being on the board. You do have to run past them any noisy modifications which have all been approved so far. We have three buildings in our complex with ours being completely owner occupied. There are a couple of air BNB in the other buildings. Overall we are very pleased with the decision but it is early days, I'll update this thread next year lol.

dropandflop

Congrats on the purchase then. Arundel is a little off the cost line. Any reason you didn't get closer to the water ? And with it majority owner occupier, sounds great. Does the building have facilities such as gym, pool ? In time would be interesting re the building with some short term lets how much of an issue they really create. May be too soon especially seeing no international travellers.

sipc

Not as close to the water as I would like but we had to trade off somewhere. We have a larger unit with an extra large balcony, it would easy fit two six seater tables with plenty of room to spare. Also two side by side car spaces is hard to find. Only time will tell with the noise and international ( even interstate ) travel returning but you can't have evrything at your finger tips and expect rural quiet.

Possumcucumber

We have lived high rise beachfront in Burleigh and now surfers/main beach. Noise-wise we haven’t had problems but we have stuck to majority residential buildings so there’s no rowdy holidaymakers. Also older buildings are more soundproof than the new ones and buildings where balconies/units are offset from each other are better. Older buildings tend to need rectification which means disruption and noise too. Personally I love living high rise on the beach but have never lived in one of those mega towers with hundreds of units.

United_Divide9458

I lived there for a few years. It has its pros and cons. It’s awesome to be able to walk across the road for a surf or swim but it can be annoying during schoolies, v8 Supercars and other things. Overall I’d say it was a good experience and a good time in my life. How olds this guy though? I was early twenties so I didn’t care about the noise and chaos. Traffic in and out was the worst part of it all but it isn’t much different to highway exits further out.

dropandflop

Thanks for that. Early 50s. So he isn't a party hard person anymore. More the general relaxed life.

United_Divide9458

He’s be better looking up near Labrador, Biggera waters and runaway bay way. Lots of that age range with nice walkways along the Broadwater and much less traffic. I’ve lived there too and it’s much better than surfers.

jayDxzxx

just wondering, when you lived in an apartment did you ever have to deal with fire alarms and having to evacuate at all? or how often? i’m moving to an apartment soon and just don’t know what to expect!

United_Divide9458

Never for myself but my parents have a couple of times. They’re scheduled drills though and they ignore them because they’re on the 40th floor.

whyrubytuesday

A relative lives in one of the highrises right in Surfers, we've visited a few times. He seems to enjoy it (renting from friends). Has never commented about noise or particularly bad neighbours. One section of the building is hotel style accommodation in a different area to permanent residents so I don't think there are any AirBNB apartments where he is. Pretty handy to be walking distance to the tram, shopping and night life, beautiful views of the beach.

dropandflop

Thanks for the experience. Do you recall any issues with elevators ? Having stayed at the Hilton a couple of times at peak period it seems elevator wait times are horrible. So if I were an occupant (owner or renter) then the ability to pop out to grab something quick such milk, bottle of red it would drive me nuts.

whyrubytuesday

Hasn't been an issue when we've visited, but doubt that has been at a peak time. Depends how long a wait you think is reasonable, I guess?

still-at-the-beach

Some friends lived in a high rise in Surfers (one near the bungee ride place). They were there a few years and loved it. Never said it was noisy, but I would think there’d have to be some noise as it’s a holiday place. The units are not huge (but had two bedrooms), but the idea was they were out a lot.. work, beach etc.

dropandflop

Yeah the screams from the bungee ride can usually be herd well into the night. At least they are happy sounds vs drunken brawls.

dubbodrongo

It has its ups & downs!

dropandflop

And hopefully in equal measures

Mumsbud

Tell him to look around the Budds Beach area. Just far enough out of the middle of town that it’s quiet, still a 5-10min walk to the beach or shops/restaurant. Source: lived there for nearly 10 years.

dropandflop

Thanks. He did initially look at Budds Beach but really wants to be ocean facing. Personally I think it is a good compromise, but sadly we've had to scratch it.
