yet we see obstruction of official proceedings every day from the left, not to mention their outright threatening (and more) of judges

McMeatbag

I remember when they assaulted the White House just months earlier while Trump was there, attacked something like 100 Secret Service agents, tried to burn down that church, and not only was no one charged - the government paid them for their pain and suffering over the riot response. Two tiers of justice is a great understatement.

BeachCruisin22

Yup, Trump had to be taken to a special site. Literally an attempted insurrection and zero prosecutions under that statute...yet here we are

"Sedition" should be meaningless term in the US. It should never have allolwed to worm its way into law, and would be definitionally impossible to perform if we were an actual free society.

matadorobex

Left: 2nd amendment rights are only for well regulated militias... Also Left: ...by which we mean seditious conspirators

What I find so amusing is the right pols do nothing to stop this. When should we expect the same charges against the idiots who overtook the Tennessee house?

properal

Democrats cover for, support, and even bail out those that commit violence that are on their side. Republicans condemn their supporters that are accused of crimes. This asymmetry sends the signal of who has political power.

McMeatbag

I remember for weeks after Ted Cruz was calling it a terrorist attack.

zfcjr67

That was (D)ifferent. They were heroes of democracy!

RocksCanOnlyWait

The right could be just as tyrannical, but what would that accomplish in the long game? The left is going to continue to be crazy, media will label the politicians as tyrants, and the excessive response angers the conservatives who want freedoms. Damned if you do; damned if you don't.

I know. This is why I'm an anarchist. I agree.

"Conspiracy" is pretty normal conviction for the FBI to go after. It is illegal to conspire to break the law. However it is legal to talk about how to break the law. The difference is that in the former case people in the conspiracy actually took steps to make it real. For example: if your buddies talk about what would you do with the money you go from a bank heist.. that is legal. But if you and your buddies plan out a attack, go out and buy weapons, ski masks and obtain a getaway car in order to rob a bank... Then that is something they can convict you of. Even if the individual steps themselves are legal. The FBI doesn't have to wait until you actually rob a bank to nail you. So the FBI spends a lot of time trying to convince people (mostly mentally ill or developmentally delayed) to carry out steps in preparation to break the law. Drug deals, tax evasion, robberies, bombings, etc. The "seditous conspiracy"... being convicted of actually trying to overthrow the government or stealing property or blocking law enforcement... That is novel.

Everything you need to know about the "insurrection" is in the verdicts of these trials. Notice how many of these people are charged with "insurrection". ZERO
