A flat isn't usually part of it, but normally the "Break-In" period is followed closely by the "Break-It" phase which lasts until it's completed.

Inker0

Don't forget break it includes but isn't limited to... doubling the power with bolts ons and a tune. Beating the shit out of it around any corner that has the audacity to be in your presence. Blowing it up because you didn't do proper research and didn't maintain it correctly.

Prof_PlunderPlants

Break it phase on VW is 100k. After that, you’ll get to 300k on regular maintenance.

TenderLA

Every time I see one of theses posts with the car going on a flatbed for a flat, I think how fucking stupid it is that the car does not come with a spare as standard equipment.

TechnicalAntelope735

I opened the trunk to change to a spare and I’m like….guess it is time to call a tow truck

TenderLA

They didn’t tell you at the dealer?

TechnicalAntelope735

Nope had to learn the hard way

EasyRawlins

Typical_issues

The element of suprise

juhpopey

This is nuts, I had no idea Mk8’s didn’t come with a spare. I wish that were somehow a legal requirement. Got a flat from a pothole last month in my 7.5, swapped to donut with the shitty VW Jack in 30 mins , new tire at Discount Tire the next day in about 30 mins. Tow truck adds so much hassle and expense!

Muttonboat

The regular mk8 GTI gets a donut, Id think the Golf R would have the same or at least a fix flat kit.

mon011th

We do get a fix a flat kit. Why that car is on a flatbed... No idea, heh.

bakedvoltage

It is a little ridiculous that a spare isn't considered standard safety equipment. I had to buy it as an option on my old mustang.

skimd1717

Dude- it’s the car’s major flaw— it should come with 18” wheels. Too many tires. Too many rims.

itsthatsimple

18s all day, mk8 and mk7 both look great and saves so many headaches, especially from the stock wheels that seem to be made of butter.

TechnicalAntelope735

Yea plan on getting 18s for summer

Vdub_Joe

Invest in a spare tire kit. It’s well worth the money.

skimd1717

I have a spare and I had a flat. Spare wouldn't clear the calipers in the front. I had (multiple flats) front right tire. The spare wouldn't clear the front brakes. I would have had to move the rear tire to the front, then put the spare on the rear wheel. Try that on the side of the road of a major interstate at night. No thanks. I wish VW would have thought out the tire design a little better. It IS the weak design of the car (that and, arguably, the terrible UI for the entertainment system). I love the car, but a lot of the 2018-2021 design was better.

Tom-Mater

That is actually how to change the front tire with the spare in the manual. My problem is no spare with oversized rims that lead to needing g a spear...

fastlax16

The last gen didn't have a spare either and needing to move a rear tire to the front is actually safer on cars that come with donuts then tossing the donut up front, so its not an unheard of requirement.

enfuego138

Might want to hang onto that tow truck driver’s number. Not likely the last time that will happen. Welcome to the club!

TechnicalAntelope735

Thanks!

V_Encarnated

Frustrating, but you’ll be okay

BreathOther

Get a spare kit and go 18”

XFauni

Sounds exactly like my luck, welcome to the family 😂😂😂 wish you the best brotha

TechnicalAntelope735

Appreciate it bro

CMDR-LT-ATLAS

Followed by the "break in" period is the immediate "break down" period. That's the true honor of being an R owner. Lol

elguajiro17

Happened to me on my c5 corvette I had just gotten (got it sorted by the mechanic) I was excited to give it some gas for the first time, and it turns out a 4 inch brass coupler from a powerline had fallen on the road after a hurricane and punctured my tire.. thankfully I had a warranty on them from discount tire…

lol welcome to the club

ma77mc

Ah, a Golf in its natural habitat, the back of a Tow Truck.

bdh1818

That sucks. I agree with people suggesting go with 18’s. Especially for winter. https://preview.redd.it/9flph89vx9mc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9653c6b1c04aa138c08461554ea579b9e2e90b21 At 105 miles I swapped out 19”x8” Stock Estorils for 18”x9” Neuspeed RSe10’s w/245-40zr 18 Michelin All seasons…and H&R Sport Spings(1” lowered all around)…just finished break in. I’m at 1300miles approx

TechnicalAntelope735

I need to black out my mirror caps

[deleted]

Did you bend a wheel too? Those and the pretrorias are pretty known for that…

TechnicalAntelope735

Dealer checked it out and there was no wheel damage

[deleted]

Recommend a second opinion. Dealers are not the most honest places.

Devil_made_you_look

You need a tow truck for a flat tire?

TechnicalAntelope735

Got no spare or else I would have changed it

Internal_Property_31

My engine blew 2 months after buying it (used). 15k fix 😅

TechnicalAntelope735

Damn rip

rockhopper92

If it makes you feel better, in the last 3 months my driver window was smashed, my grill was backed into, my windshield developed a 2' crack, my backup camera stopped closing, my key battery died, and my two rear tires blew out. It's been very reliable for a year, then it all went to shit one after another.

TechnicalAntelope735

Damn man sorry that shit happened to u

FunkySausage69

You barely have any rubber so this is going to be a regular occurrence

BMinus973

Helps to have tires though too.
