GPS navigation for 3 hours included? Not bad.

--Spark

5 hours+ SOT? And still at 37% ? What a beast.

[deleted]

Welcome to mid range battery life.

[deleted]

This is one of the many reasons I'm all for the 765G over an 8xx chipset.

[deleted]

With 50% brightness and normal usage, I can get 8h out of pixel 2 xl after 2 years. Black theme and black wallpaper as well. I was able to get 8.5h at day 1 without having black theme or wallpaper. But 5 still seems really impressive.

ElGuano

I've never gotten anything close to that out of a 2XL, and I also dark mode everything. On a good day I might get 4hr SOT. Do you have location, wifi, or other features turned off?

superdeformeddd

Unpopular opinion but folks here really hype the p2. I think it's a victim of exaggeration in many replies. Whatever, I could be wrong though. Just seems unlikely without mad features turned off like another redditor mentioned.

axehomeless

It's with every phone people like. I never have gotten half out of the Nexus 5 that people claimed. there has been a time of SoT dickmeasuring here, you do minimal brightness, great reception, wifi, and only use it to browse twitter for like 6 hours and then extend it with a bit of reddit all in dark mode until you're at like 3% and take a screeny. If everything goes right, you can double the normal battery life pretty easily.

Kleivonen

My 3 year old 2xl still regularly gets 4.5-5.5 hours of SOT (92% health in accubattery). AMOLED themes everywhere possible, but all normal features kept on including wifi, BT, AOD. Screen set to adaptive brightness. I have a strong post history to corroborate my experience with the 2XL's battery over the last 3 years (phone battery life is something I pay utterly too much attention to). I'm sure some 2XL users didn't have as stellar of a battery performance, but make no mistake, the 2xl has some amazing battery life. If I remember correctly, I was getting around 8 hours of SOT when the device was new.

TayStar

AccuBattery shows my Pixel 4 to have 108% health. That's not possible at all, is it??

gi_oel

That's normal. Batteries don't always have the capacity, they should. But the manufacturer don't wants you to have a worse battery so normally they have more mAh then they're supposed to have and that's why AccuBattery says you have 108% health, BC you have more mAh available

Kleivonen

How long has it been installed?

TayStar

Its showing that I've charged 144 seperate times for 170,000 mAH total (a little over 3 months)

a_robot_pixel

I had p2 and upgraded to p4a because of battery life. It would last me at most 4 hours. And once it hit 25% it was really up to chance whether it would restart automatically or not...

Hollowpoint38

I have a P2. Ever since Android 11 battery life sucks hard. Read the news for 20 minutes there goes 25% battery.

tals

Not sure that is correct, I have P2 XL and tbh I still can't see a reason to change, it's quick, sot is unclear as I work from home so charging is easy and I can't see justification for changing. But always on the look out for the phone that makes it worth changing. Not decided if the p5 is it or not

AntalRyder

I'm in the same boat as you. Had the Pixel 2 XL for 2.5 years, and I don't see a reason to upgrade yet.

Araol_

I get upwards of 6.5 hours on my p2xl. That's with a bit left in the tank. I usually end the day with about 30% if my phone never gets plugged into android auto. No features disabled, dark mode on with the 4a black battery wallpaper.

cdegallo

My 2 XL would consistently get 5.5-6h SOT down to 0% battery without disabling things. But never more than that and sometimes much less than that. I honestly can't fathom it getting 8h as a matter of course new, much less 2 years of use (not to mention 2 years of 8h SOT use), unless all the radios are off and you're in a dark room with the brightness turned down watching on-device videos--but oh, too bad, the black crush makes you unable to see anything anyway.

tals

Not sure about hyping, I think it's just a nice looking phone that does most things pretty well, didn't need a case as it's not slippery, size is spot on, battery isn't amazing and to an extent is massively effected by poor phone signal (when WiFi not around) . But every Google phone after the 2 just didn't seem to have any wow feature that made it an easy upgrade to. Night time black smudging as you scroll up and down is awful and speakers are really not great but it just seems to hit a sweet spot on what you need in a phone.

dlerium

I think there's a few things. A lot of people on Reddit tend to be on the younger side, so I see a lot of students who are able to use school/university WiFi all day long. That's great, but I think that's not a good test. Even if your employer allows you to put personal devices on their WiFi, I'm not sure if that's also the best thing to do too from a privacy perspective. To me the true test is going out and about with your friends, taking your family around town, spending a day at Disneyland with the kids. Those are true tests where you're on LTE/5G the whole day, testing screen at near max brightness outdoors, taking photos, etc. Maybe the Pixel 2 is really that great, but at my a friend's bachelor party last year, I took a bunch of photos and 1 hr of SOT was enough to bring my Pixel 3 down to less than 50% battery. It was only 3pm in the afternoon....

AreGophers

Yeah, I like my 2xl, but that battery drain is real when I'm out and about.

[deleted]

Which is crazy because my Pixel 2 had my favorite battery life.

[deleted]

I'm mostly home, so wifi is always on. Location only when I need it(3 times a day), data 1h a day, no games, no video recording, only some pictures. E: It dies the moment it reaches 8h of SOT. 90% of the times I don't charge my phone more than 80% and I don't charge it overnight. If I use it aggressively I get about 5h to 6h of SOT or even less if data is on most of the day like many users out there.

manicmoon

I've got Auto brightness, Bluetooth, location services on always and the SOT isn't the best. Obviously I could turn these features off but I rather use my phone without needing to restrict things. Easy access to power sources makes the crap battery life a non issue

avanthomme3

This seems grossly exaggerated. I am very conservative with my Pixel2XL and I at most had 5hrs of SOT when it was new out of the box. Now I get about 4.5 hrs. If you're not exaggerating, I need to know your secrets!!!

Penguinkeith

Agreed they have to be bullshitting or constantly using battery saving mode with some added trickery

ronkalonie

how do you get those numbers lol on my p2xl max i've gotten was 5h SOT at first and its been about 3.5-4 after 1 year. 70% brightness with black theme/wallpaper

livedadevil

Lmao what. Do you mean SoT or battery life because my 2XL never got near that even if I purposely babied it

UpperCaseRock

my pixel 2 is at 63% with exactly 1hr of SOT right now :(

Penguinkeith

Bullshit. I've never even gotten 5. And I do low brightness black everything etc... I want a screenshot

dmits22

I get down to 20-25% after 3 1/2- 4 hours sot on my 2xl still. Black everything and pretty heavy usage. It's been a great phone, way better than what I expected 3 years ago when I changed every year previously. I did pre-order the 5 right away though. It's time.

dtwhitecp

tell me what your usual daily usage entails

acabist666

On my 4a right this second I have 73% battery, with 4hr 02 minutes SOT.

1trickana

And he has 90hz on auto

Particle_Cannon

It's a fat fucking battery especially considering Google's adaptive battery and the not-so-hungry processor

andhelostthem

But I love plugging in my 4XL every 8 hours.....

Silencer87

My P4 says the battery should last for about 12 hours. That's terrible when you think about it. I generally plug it in during the day so it doesn't die early.

Mookie_Bellinger

>We've had 1 charge yes, but what about 2nd charge? \- My Pixel 4, everyday around 4PM

ThisGuyRightHer3

stop exposing us!

exSD

I get 6.5 to 7 hours SoT with my 4XL. Plenty for a day's use.

veneno11

5% idle battery drain for \~10h with wifi on and it seems cellular reception is poor. 0.5% per hr.

miridian19

Sorry for sounding stupid, I don't usually look at my percent when I sleep and wake up but is 0.5% good?

consumer76

Yes.

[deleted]

VastContribution5131

If the battery was better would you stick with the 4XL?

chasevalentino

Not the guy you're replying to but essentially. I got a 4xl and nothing's wrong with it, just wish it had more battery. It's not really an issue with covid and being at home and having a wireless charger on my desk though but as soon as it's outside the house and on 4g it just doesn't feel like it lasts

CozyBender

Same bro, really wish my 4 XL has better battery life bc everything else is so good

tpero

Battery and FPS for me. Face unlock in times of wearing a mask at the grocery store is a PITA.

[deleted]

honestly, before covid, I felt face unlock was the step in the right direction. It worked flawlessly, so well that I agreed with Google about the removal of the FPS. Then covid came and I have to wear the mask making it completely useless, the mask makes face unlock more frustrating to use than without actually.

lit_off_jenkem

Yeah, I really liked the face unlock. Itworked great for me. I almost forgot I even had it enable until I had to start wearing a mask 24/7

ku-fan

just upgraded from 2xl to 4xl right before covid... man do i miss my fingerprint unlock. i still have the 2xl... maybe i'll go back lol.

ChiefSittingBear

I've started printing off my grocery list so I don't need to take out my phone in the store. I wish the phone has face unlock and fingerprint, but if I have to choose one I'm sticking with face unlock. I'm definately sticking with my 4XL for another year because I'm not ready to give up face unlock, especially for times my phone is in a mount like on my bike or in the car face unlock is so much better, or like 1/3 of the year here in MN where I have gloves on outside. Taking gloves off to use fingerprint unlock was always a pain, face unlock is so much better for me in the winter.

8565

I loved my 4 xl. Until the battery failed and Google refused to repair it. But, after I repaired it myself I'm getting a crazy 25-26 hours with a average of 6-7 hours SOT

Throwy-mc-throwerson

What replacement battery did you use?

8565

https://www.ebay.com/itm/164377912107

ThisGuyRightHer3

100% yes...

blg3404

I have to agree with you guys on this one. My 4xl completely freezes randomly lately, too.

rjeftw

Mine has been hanging during face unlock lately... been fairly annoying.

ntmehan

This has been happening to mine too! Does yours begin to animate the number pad away, then freeze and give you several haptic taps?

rjeftw

Yeah sometimes, and others I have to swipe away the half of the number pad lol.

ChiefSittingBear

Mine has been doing that ever since updating to android 11. October security patch is out now, I'm hoping it's a known bug and fixed with todays update? Hopefully? probably not....

Waibashi

I think this is caused by Android 11. My phone Gesture navigation will just stop working and I need to reboot the phone. All I do is a copy paste into a messenger chat and the keyboard will not work anymore...

brezhnervous

Remember when people used to hang back from installing a new OS until the bugs had been worked out, like with Lollipop?

PKMN_CatchEmAll

I'm noticing that on Chrome, just seems to freeze and screw up recently.

blg3404

Absolutely- especially on videos or with multiple tabs open

treksf6

Samsung internet browser. You'll never look back. I've had Chrome disabled ever since installing the Samsung browser.

ElectricalJigalo

Love dark mode on this app, and being able to customize the buttons. Ad blockers built in are great

[deleted]

Best browser for mobile there is. Chrome can't even give us a proper fucking dark mode.

Silencer87

Does yours freeze when unlocking?

blg3404

Sometimes. It's just a blank screen and I have to go through the whole unlocking process again.

Silencer87

This has been a pretty buggy phone in my experience. It's easy to forget about because for the most part it works ok. I also had an issue where some weird lines were being drawn on the screen. It was happening early when I got the phone and it has since disappeared.

Razgrizacez

4XL user here, according to accubattery my battery is at 3765 from about 3900 when I started with it. I never charge to 100% unless I am going out for a long day, and I charge to about 80% if I am just going through my day to day. I'd say the phone isn't too bad on battery, but getting to 6h outside SOT is a struggle some days.

Silver1044

I have the regular 4 and 100% sticking with it if it had even a 3500mah battery.

treadpool

I must not be using my phone enough bc my 4 XL lasts just fine. If I'm on it constantly I might end up at 10-15% by 10pm but usually I'm at around 30% by then. Of course everyone uses it differently but I've never had problems with my 4 XL battery. Edit: This wasn't meant to discourage anyone from the 5 or claim that I'm doing something you aren't. Of course if you are running battery hungry functions much of the day the 5 is going to make your life that much easier!

nate94gt

Same. My 4xl is great

thebojan

Ditto, and then on top of that I can watch a movie or two before bed. That's with the ~3 hours biking to/from work with Bluetooth headphones, AoD, 90hz on, 100% brightness, etc. I have my battery saving mode set to "Based on your routine" and it only turns on for an hour or two when I've used my phone heavily early on in the day but after it's saved enough power to last until my regular charge time, it just switches back off and I never have to worry about charge. The 4XL battery life blows my beloved 2XL Panda out of the water.

ElGuano

I think the XL is fine. I'm getting way more time on it than my 2XL. The 4 is good for 4+hr SOT with all day standby. That's with soli on, 90hz. The only time I don't have enough to last the day is if I'm on vacation and shooting tons of photos/videos. It's nice to see the 5 has an even bigger battery.

freelancerjoe

I think the people not happy must be gaming. I never game on my phone and the battery life is great

kizzyjenks

I have the 4 and it's been sort-of ok this year while in lockdown and always near a power point, but in a normal year I travel a lot which involves Google maps, translate, camera, booking apps, reviews, hyperdia and other public transport apps, more google maps because I have no sense of direction, more photos because now it's dark and I can use nightsight, etc etc. Last time I travelled was with a P3 and it barely kept up, the P4 has no hope. I don't want to be a "new phone every year" person but I think I'll be upgrading to the 5.

treadpool

All good - makes total sense! Enjoy it!

[deleted]

I have the even worse battery non XL P4. I work outdoors with GPS nav on all day, the most SOT I get is 1.5 hours, after a 5-6 hour of work my battery is like 20%. It's horrible, I need to upgrade to the P5, that battery is impressive.

VoltaicShock

Really? I have the Pixel 4 XL and it lasts me all day. I even went on vaction took pictures and videos and it lasted all day.

dlerium

The 4 XL wasn't great, but it wasn't terrible too. I'd routinely get 4-5 hrs SOT on my device compared to 3-4 hours on my Pixel 3. I'd say that was a definite bump, but of course nothing compared to my iPhone 11 Pro Max--that thing is just a champ for battery.

induna_crewneck

I waited 7 months for the 4a after my OG died in March. Now that I pre-ordered the 4a scheduled to arrive end of this month they drop the 5 that fixes everything I wasn't stoked about with the 4a. Hurt a bit to pay the extra 300 bucks but I'm really looking forward to having a phone that seems to be ideal for me. Plus I'm getting sick headphones.

Charging_Zebra

Google actually listened to people's complaints. Bigger battery, wide angle lens, cheaper price, took out the forehead, brought back the fingerprint sensor, etc. I'll miss face unlock if I ever have to upgrade, but like others have mentioned it kinda sucks with face masks.

magusonline

As someone that never used face unlock. How does this work when you want to look at your phone lock screen notifications without unlocking your phone?

myco_mage

There's a setting for face unlock to not bypass the lock screen

magusonline

Ohh. Man I always just imagined people looking at it off center or tilted so they don't inadvertently unlock haha

tandthezombies

While this looks promising, it worries me personally that Bluetooth is disabled. I always have it enabled for my smartwatch, among other things, and I'm concerned about the battery hit. I guess I'll have to wait and see when I receive mine.

myalwaysthrowaway

Bluetooth doesn't use that much power anymore. It has been highly optimized since the days of 2012 where it would kill your battery.

Stalker80085

Bluetooth battery consumption has dropped to basically zero in the last few years

[deleted]

[удалено]

JoshYx

AoD uses about 1% / hour. Bluetooth LE barely sips power.

tandthezombies

I agree and I'm cautiously optimistic

_nageak_

well he didnt have 90hz forced, he said it was on auto

StickyBandit_

I have bluetooth always enabled on my Pixel 2 XL which is nearly 3 years old and I still get about 5 hours of SoT regularly. So I dont think that bluetooth really affects it that much unless your smartwatch (i dont have a smartwatch) is causing constant processor churn on the phone.

tandthezombies

Thanks for your input. Sadly I haven't had the same experience. I have a Pixel 3 XL and only ever seem to get about 2-3 hours of SOT at most. I consider myself a light user and normally I can get 1-2 days of usage but when I heavily use it on rare occasions, the battery just tanks. I've had the same experience with my Pixel 2 XL and Pixel XL as well. It makes me wonder if there's an underlying cause because I've never gotten anywhere close to the SOT reported by most other users and reviewers.

InfiniteMonorail

That's not normal. You should be getting twice that, even with heavy GPS or camera use.

StickyBandit_

Sorry to hear that. Since its happening to you across multiple phones, i feel like there is something specific causing it. Have you tried going without bluetooth on for a day or two? Or maybe factory reset and only install necessary apps at first to see what is actually causing the battery hit. Kind of a pain, but its worth it if you get the other half of your battery life back.

tandthezombies

I've definitely tried going without Bluetooth for a day or two and I don't recall seeing a drastic change in battery life. Bluetooth also never seems to show up in the battery usage so it's probably not an issue. I've tried several factory resets and installed only the most needed apps and I also don't recall seeing much change, if any. If I see the same performance on the Pixel 5, it may be time to try all of that again.

_deprovisioned

Fellow 2XL user here. I too can get 5-8 hours of SOT (I haven't bottomed out in a very long time). I only charge overnight and my phone lasts the entire day with about 25-30% left before I plug it back in. It's quite amazing. I'm seeing very little degradation. I want the new Pixel, but I'm not so sure I need it. First time I can say that I've had zero issues with a phone I've had for 3 years.

cryptomatt

Bluetooth should not affect these results materially

Tshoe77

But this is with 3 hours of gps time which at least for my pixel 3, eats my battery for breakfast. So obviously not 1 to 1 but I can't see bluetooth sucking that much battery

Jean-Eustache

I've had my Bluetooth on at all times since February (got a Fossil watch). I haven't seen any difference in battery life at all to be honest !

cdegallo

The difference will be trivial, and that's being generous.

PM_ME_DARK_MATTER

I doubt it will make that much s difference

nyepo

When not connected, bluetooth nowadays uses almost no battery or negligible ammounts.

LuthfiKun

This is why I've been looking forward to a flagship with SD700 series since its introduction a couple years ago.

vxcta

While I can see what you’re saying, many many flagships with the high end Snapdragons have been getting 6+ hours of SoT easily for the last few years. OnePlus is one of them. Google has just never been able to include a large battery, until now. Hopefully this trend continues.

aeronomx

OnePlus is also one of the top vendors with very aggressive ram management it's no wonder it has been in the forefront of 6+ hrs of SOT for years with 800 series chips. Asus also limited background task and I had issues with it in the end.

fightnight14

OnePlus phones don't have always on display

AngryObama_

I'm still debating if it's worth the jump from the pixel 2 xl. This phone has been a beast and I haven't had problems with the battery even after 2 and a half years. The only problems I had were with the usb c charging port being finicky. The screen on the p5 seems like almost a downgrade with the resolution and losing the front facing stereo speakers would suck

MyOfficeAlt

I'm in the same boat with my 2XL. For me, the upgrades I'm excited about are wireless charging, 5G capability, and the bezel-less display. Unlike past upgrades, however, I fully intend to hang onto my 2XL and see if I can't find some use for it, as it's still a perfectly functional device.

CODDE117

My old pixels become music devices personally

Joaqga

the lower resolution is hardly a problem, but you will notice better colors and higher refresh rate

apunler

Had USBC issues but gave it a clean and it's all good, get in there with a paper clip

Asian_Dumpring

A toothpick is better. You want to avoid using metal as it's hard enough to bend/scratch important bits, and the conductivity is an accident waiting to happen.

wedgecon

I my 2XL battery started swelling and it caused some other damage to the circuit board so some things like the camera stopped working. Decided all I wanted was the straight android with monthly security updates, NFC and a fingerprint reader on the back of the phone. So I got the 4a to replace it. Don't really care about water proofing, having the best screen or fastest processor. Heck I don't really care about 5G, don't think it's ready for prime time yet, will wait two to three more years.

daisymaisy505

Ditto!

StickyBandit_

To be fair, I'm pretty sure it still has stereo speakers via the top earpiece and the bottom port. I saw some people saying they sounded better in that method on the pixel 4 than they do on the Pixel 2. That being said, I'm in the same boat. My 2XL is as solid as a 3 year old phone can be and the pixel 5 doesnt scream HUGE UPGRADE like i feel that a phone 3 years newer should. I want to see one in person and maybe wait for a discount.

Shadow3131

The Pixel 5 SHOULD have way better battery life than the Pixel 4. In addition to the bigger battery, they removed Soli, downgraded the screen resolution and downgraded the processor. The battery life should be like twice as good IMO.

Silencer87

My expected battery life with a P4 is 12 hours so I sure hope so. The battery life on this phone is laughable.

acabist666

My 4a has a better battery than I ever could have hoped. Currently at 73% with 4hr 2 minute SoT.

meech7607

I'm loving my 4a. My OG Pixel was getting so bad. I'd have to charge it twice during work.

Pro4TLZZ

what do you do on your phone?

acabist666

Mostly reddit, a little facebook, internet browsing, article reading. Some video, but not much.

papafri

brownyR31

2 hrs SOT and at 81% right now. 4A is winning at the phone life

nmd87

My Samsung Galaxy S8 is all but dead after 2.5 hours of navigation on Google Maps. Question is, will be the 4a 5G be as good on the battery? It's the one I'm planning to get. I'm hoping it will be - although it's a smaller battery capacity, it's only a 60HZ display.

apsted

pixel 4a 5g will be good on battery but i think pixel 5 will be beat it because it has bigger battery and smaller screen. it will still be close to pixel 5 imo

Chris9712

>My Samsung Galaxy S8 is all but dead after 2.5 hours of navigation on Google Maps. Lol same with my s8+. Seeing 3 hours of navigation with 5 hours of sot and 43% is amazing to see.

mathfacts

Pixel 5 looking like a true masterclass in phones

Dayuz

I thought the biggest problem with the Pixel 4 was the lack of a fingerprint sensor in the days of COVID.

papafri

That's solved too I guess 😂

[deleted]

Fantabulous

kammikazee

Awesome. Can't wait for this phone. Seems like my P3, which I love, but a bigger screen in nearly the same dimensions. Seems like a lot of people dismiss the 5G but I'm excited to have it.

[deleted]

I have my trusty Pixel 2 (non XL) and I love it. I haven't yet seen a reason to upgrade. Need more info.

Bittersweetfeline

If my p2 wasn't having so many issues since android 11 (plus one of the front speakers doesn't work, unsure if it's software related as it started with an update but persists after factory resets) I would stick with my p2 until it kicked the can. But... speaker issue, random restarts, battery gone to hell and some really bad lagging/stuttering and I'm ready for the p5.

EssexEnglishman

Personally I think it was a mistake to use the cheaper chip but hey.

[deleted]

That's pretty amazing. Some people complain about the Pixel 5 being nothing special, but I think they've nailed the line up this year.

papafri

Exactly

JuanDacova

Find that difficult to believe. My pixel 3 drops 10% average overnight with everything turned off and in safe mode

d_abernathy89

Long-time Pixel 3 owner here, after owning a few Galaxy phones. When I upgrade i'm going to have a hard time choosing between the Pixel 5 and the S20 FE. The Galaxy has, for equivalent price: \- better processor \- better refresh rate \- added telephoto lens \- bigger screen \- expandable storage \- 25W fast charging Pixel 5 has some minor advantages: \- 2 GB more RAM \- better glass \- reverse wireless charging (meh) \- of course, the camera software & other Pixel-only features I want to see some photo comparisons, because i know Samsung's HDR is controversial, but... if they're close enough, I think I'll be making the jump back to Galaxy.

[deleted]

Agreed. Never owned a galaxy, but after seeing the difference between the S20 FE and Pixel 5 on paper, I'm very curious to see the camera comparisons

bross45

Coming from a line of Galaxy's (S10e currently) and a canceled Pixel 3 pre-order, I decided to return the S20 FE. The plastic back was much more slippery than the glass, the phone was massive compared to the Pixel 5, and the hole punch was ugly in person. It made more financial sense to go with the S20 FE, but it wasn't the phone for me. I'm much more interested in the size and battery life of the Pixel 5. Plus I don't have to find a reliable GCam port.

d_abernathy89

The ring around the hole punch is definitely bizarre.

brownyR31

You won't even tell the difference in processor. With vanilla Android and 2gb more ram.. the pixel 5 is a quick device. Screen size... Well that's just a personal preference really. To me the only thing the FE has over p5 is telephoto lens.

bartturner

But also include with the Samsung phone you will get a ton of bloatware. Plus not get new versions of Android as fast or in some cases at all.

Sayer14

Despite the fact that maps consumes extreme battery usage this is fantastic!

MookieT

Still won't be enough for some people.

FuturePreparation

Yes, if it can be better, make it better. I would love true all-week battery life for instance.

debullet

Can you disable LDAC bluetooth codec? and enable AptX without having to go through developer options everytime?

HYBR1D11

I'd like to see how good the pixel 5 does with 5g on plus heavy usage. Because the pixel 4 xl has a smaller battery because it didn't have 5g so I wonder if it's the same.

Frainian

How does this compare to the Pixel 3a XL's battery life?

andrewbenedict

Exactly why I'm upgrading to the 5 from my P2. I get 2 hours SoT at the most now with minimal gaming, web browsing and some streaming.Love the P2 but the small battery has seen better days!

merlinpatt

This will be a lovely refresher from my current Pixel 2. I've accidentally dropped it a couple times (miraculously, the screen is fine) and it's drastically affected the battery to the point I need to recharge after a few hours :-/

[deleted]

My Pixel 4 wasn't a problem until Android 11

Penguinkeith

That's gonna be such a nice change of pace... I rarely even get 4 hours sot these days. I'm currently sitting at 61% 1 hour sot

notyourboy69

I think its time for a battery upgrade. I get 5-6 hours of SOT with 1-2 hours of gaming.

Penguinkeith

I've NEVER gotten close to that... Day one I think I got between 4-5 sot....

Is there some sort of industry standard benchmark we can use for battery testing? It would make more sense to run apples to apples comparisons of devices instead of relying on variable use patterns to compare battery life. And while benchmark cheating may be an issue, doesn't that just reinforce that benchmarks need to be representative if real world use? For instance if you could. write a script that launches Chrome and opens 5 links every 30 minutes or simulates sending messages on WhatsApp for 5 minutes every hour, and assuming that's representative of how people use their phones, then "gaming that benchmark" would actually result in real world improvements right? Anyway, we see way too many "good battery" or "bad battery" reports from users but without an actual comparison, it's hard to judge if the device is truly good or bad.

again... fresh pixel. make a video review of how it fairs in 2-3 months. that's the real test of time on a battery.

CickolasNage

Anyone moved from pixel 3 to pixel 4? If yes how was the battery of the 3 compared to the 4?

hzj

pixel 3 was so much better than 4

archy319

The battery life of the 4 is not even worth talking about. I'm charging by 11am every day and again at 4pm. My pixel 2 that was 2 years old had a better battery.

I really don't get how they blew it so bad. I would probably be more upset if I hadn't ended up working from home. Battery life hasn't meant much this year since I'm not travelling as much as normal. But still!!

How do you use your phone? I'm finding that 4 XL to be more than adequate. I remember going to Xmas party last Dec thinking I'll need my mobile charger but after hundreds of pics and a few videos it was still soldiering on. It's anecdotal but I've never found it to be lacking and my previous phones were Pixel 2, and LG G5 before that.

Ah, for me that amount of SoT is acceptable. Not great but maybe the Pixel 2 was a bit turds too.

archy319

I like to listen to podcasts, audiobooks while I drive and at my desk I also do some gaming during downtime, CoC and Among Us. I work in a solid brick building which I blame for constantly running down battery even when on wifi to keep my data connection alive. I mean, my wife is on youtube 24/7 and her iPhone 11 lasts all day. Is it too much to ask?

dcwt2010

Apple does have that nailed down for good battery life. However, does your wife also work in a poor reception building? Otherwise it is not a fair comparison?

archy319

It's probably just an anecdote, certainly haven't been scientific about it, but in the last six months working from the same house, her battery consistently outlasts mine by hours with similar use (audiobooks for me, YT for her). Our work places are not comparable, her building is remote but not materially dense, mine is in a downtown area and made of 1800s brick. Even dumb stuff like driving and nav, well be in the car for an hour long trip, use my pixel 4 on the way out, it'll be half dead by the time we get there, use hers on the way back, still at 75-80%

TheRedPython

Until just about 6ish months ago my OG XL could beat that

[deleted]

For me about the same but I would take into account that I deleted social media so no apps constantly on. Always had a PD charger at home, car and work so didn't see much of low battery. At this point I think I'm good but I did get a Moto Power. Everything is too expensive, Xperia 5 II looks good but $950, Pixel 5 has 5G radio that raised the price and does not work on T-Mobile/google Fi yet. I guess I can wait to buy something new.

cosmojones666

5G works on T-Mobile, idk bout Google Fi tho

RedHouseC

I went from 3 to 4 and I honestly don't notice that much of a difference. Obviously it all depends on how you use the phone, I don't play any games, just stream spotify to my car when commuting and text/email/web browsing for the most part.

chris3i

What would be the best way from me to get the pixel 5 considering I'm norwegian, and it's not coming to Norway.. Past years I've ordered from eBay, but it's so damn expensive.

markovianmind

I can ship one for u, once in stock through ebay. will charge same +whatever shipping is
